It's OK!
Nice demo.
■■■ROCKS■■■
Hardly unpolished and rushed, and reused ideas. I dnt like the cheap 3D city fly by, like from Deus Ex games.
But cannot give a piggie, catching music and technical brilliance and 3D modelling is awesome as always.

Viel Bum Bum mit konzeptionslosem Durcheinander.
A NICE KICK IN THE FACE
ouch ! kick ass ! love it :)
High productionvalue, kickass fast-paced music and some really delicious graphiceffects! This ride gives me the goosebumps! I love it! <3
Stunning visuals, (a little too) fast paced for me and the music kicks the fun right out of it.
visuals are awesome. but the totally overcompressed stresstest music detroyed the prod for me. fuck the loudness war.
COCOOOOOOON! <3
Looks nice but the music completely spoils the demo for me.
Cocoon delivers AGAIN'
Awesome tech & sync and a massive tune! I want more!
This was the BEST FUCKING MUSIC I ever watched in a compo and it NAILED it. Great stuff, from all being involved, where especially that insane driving music completely got me.
Yes! Drum'n'bass tempo seems to go up a notch with each release - I like it! :D I could still do with more consistency in sync, but beyond awesome none the less!!
(soundtrack: https://soundcloud.com/2methylbulbe1ol/test-demo )
Awesome visuals as always, nice "polygon 2nd skin" FX. Maybe town "static like 2d background" views could have slighly move ? I'd love to work with some of your scene layers (normal map, zbuffer, light) on an Atari STe hicolor sci-fi project ;-)
Great visuals (and code, i guess :p )!
Not a drill. <3

mental overflow
Easily a thumb up for those superb great visuals...on the other hand no risc taken and feels a bit like "more of the same" for me...
dope!
Rocking!
soulless music.
The demo was nice; I don't recall it being particularly exciting, but I think I was hoping it was when it started playing. Still, it looked good. The beam slide I think named the contributors rather than the group, which was interesting.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. Others may feel differently.

I tend to dislike "final releases." I can understand fixing bugs and making sure it works for more people than just the demobox, within reason, but sometimes the changes made make the demo entirely different. Different from what we saw, what we voted on, what we decided we liked|disliked|etc. This has been released, seen by a packed party hall and many more streamers online. This is now a snapshopt of history and until you can time travel, you can't change that.it s a party version...rushed as always.... lots of thing to change (camera in city, synch, change the credits parts , add 2 scene not present in the demo etc etc ;)
Anyway, that's just my opinion. Others may feel differently.
Nice beginning. The rest was a letdown though.
Superb graphics as always. This 30s future cars are really cool! Eagerly awaiting the final with polished cameras etc.
360 Mb of content...
But the DNA scene is the best for me.

ok
- Static meshes
- Flyby
- Reused content
- Nothing new
- 360 Mb
I wonder why there's people who like this kind of stuff. Cocoon, stop making benchmarks, please.

omg. yet another cocoon flyby. really. no kidding.
feels like i have seen it like zillion times before.
i'm pretty sure i have.

100% badass. Really love your style!
Okay guys, after some deliberation I'm thumbing this down. Here are my reasons in order of importance:
- Re-use of visual concepts which have already been re-used.
- Music is ridiculously over-the-top in relation to the visuals (although I enjoy such intense music). The music is going completely crazy while... some anonymous droid slowly moves around for a static camera, through a mostly static scene. Something more chilled or even ambient would have worked better there (as in, well, Blade Runner... you know...).
- No shadows in the city scene at all (that makes it look flat and cheap, and in fact it IS cheaper that way). I don't think any of the other scenes had shadows either. Shadows are important for your realistic style. How it is now, it looks like a Playstation 2 game (ouch!).
- Obvious roughness map tiling on the wet floor in the city. That stuck out like a sore thumb.
Obviously I've seen better work from Cocoon before so I don't really understand the lack of quality this time.

i have to second ized somehow, but i still like it.. maybe one could have made it half the length to reduce the amount of lengthy/unnecessary flybys?
A serious kick right into the face.... Massive and great!
Enough of the same, seriously.
"Shad 2" was 20 years ago and kicks balls heavier than this.

kicks ass, not balls.
it is amazing
Great work this time. Really liked the demo in general.
The city-animation felt good, nice look at and follow camera routines, however the camera-scanner moved a bit too fast and out of control. Like the idea, though.
As most of the city, industrial and raw-terrain-environmental were really smashing, it felt awesome to see all the new represented effects there. Like how the subtle light from the tubes (GI+AO), glimmered! That was stunning. What caught my breath was the organic spline-things with morphing attributes and surfaces. Made it looks totally wicked! The metablobs kicked ass! Just one heavy aspect, the awesome music should have been mixed better to suite the "bigscreen soundsystem", however I know the withdraw too(been there myself since I contributed in compos as well).
Great demo! Keep it up guys and happy birthday :D

not this time...sorry.
the huge disconnect between visuals and music (which is a bit too dull for my taste) made me impatient.
i was glad, when it ended.

Enjoyed it and looking forward to the final as this was obviously rushed. Music felt slightly chaotic. That line effect over solid objects and some colours were a favourite. I didn't really care too much for some ideas being too obviously pulled from beeple's ZERO-DAY (https://vimeo.com/140163198) but not done that well.
Not sure about the visuals vs. the soundtrack - somehow the soundtrack has A LOT more power than the visual seems to have. Maybe it lacks proper synch?, but oh my, that soundtrack! It's.... gaaaaaaahhh....
the city scene was really nice and well done, rest is just 'press ntsc's belly button for more sci-fi content' and thus more of the same. it's done nicely, but, it gets repetitive.
The renderer works really well (as in the last N prods, I suppose it's the same :-) ) when things are moving and shaking. Less so when standing still in the city. Overall a good show, although I agree with many that we've seen it before.
Unfortunatly freezes in the middle of the demo on Win7-64bit here :/
Indeed it's all a bit "seen before", but the relentless pace and overall polish more than makes up for it. Deserved winner.
seen before, but still solid.
awesome demo although I feel like there is reused content (the street or something ?) but maybe I'm wrong. whatever, nothing bad enough to hit the piggy thing. <3
Bam. :)
You can easily tell in the demo when it went from original script to we-re-out-of-time-so-just-cram-in-more-cuts, but it still works well enough. I'm looking forward to watching a final version: let us know what you had in mind and don't let some arbitrary deadline set that prod in stone!

I'm somewhat neutral about this installment by Cocoon because I enjoyed the visual look of the city scenes and the effects that followed are indeed very demoscene-ish, which is of course very cool, however the music got annyoing really fast.
I also feel like Farbrausch has told a far more compelling story within a cityscape with 'Debris' years ago - and that demo was only 117kb in size ;)
Still a nice prod to showcase to new people curious about the demoscene. It certainly does not have to hide and I'm glad this won over the ridiculously awful 2nd place production in the compo.

Cool demo
Boom!
+ solid.
+ The initial scene.
+ Final credits and skull scene
For some reason the framerate drops on the "streets" sequence. I have the theory that the rain drops fx has to do _a lot_ with this issue: when no rain the framerate is smooth and neat.
The music drum'n'bass whatsover-sub-genre is not my thing, so I early give up attention and lose all sense of connection to the streets sequences. :( My fault.

Thumb for the honest attempt to tear down the party hall with that soundtrack. :)
Apart from that, yeah, torn between "it's obviously really good" and "they're showing the same stuff they've been showing for years now". If I had a wish I'd wish for more off-the-rails Cocoon stuff like Sandbox Punks or even Glon 243 in the future

I admit I hadn't fully watched any Cocoon demos for the past 3 years, so I did a Cocoon marathon from 2012-2016 before watching this demo (and holy crap, is this group prolific!). Maybe because of that, I felt like Soul Splitter was a "Cocoon's greatest hits" compilation with more decibels thrown at the soundtrack. I feel like TBL could've replicated this on an Amiga 060 with 95% of the impact. Even if the city scene (which had the same Bladerunner vibe as the one from Shapeshift) had a zillion light sources and a bajillion polygons, the camera was still most of the time so it didn't really matter. Maybe the ever-decreasing framerate has something to do with it, but We Stand Divided, Shapeshift, and Terminal 7 wowed me much more than this one. I hope they can continue work on it so it feels more complete. Would also be nice to alter the motif and color scheme a bit next time (what kb said).
The tonemapping and colorshift are giving me eyecancer, music and visuals feel disconnected until the tunnel hits, animation of the drone looks kinda clunky, lots of unmotivated camera movement in combination with some "not so awesome" angles, the scenes do not employ any connection what so ever... the whole demo is basically trying to shove down "random" visuals into the audiences throat, using a massive track as lube.
I usually like your stuff(in the same way I like easy to watch mainstream blockbusters from time to time) but with this one you crossed the threshold way too far, sorry.

Ok, sorry guys I don't want to do this but this is just further downhill from the last couple of releases. You guys have the most amazing engine in the scene but rush the content during the party.
The 3D work is mostly excellent again of course (though I'm seeing some disturbingly low resolution textures) but the camerawork and cutting makes no fucking sense. This is just a meaningless juxtaposition of a realistic (ymmv) city scene with a static plastic looking dude next to some seen-before (albeit cool) DemoObjects™. I could elaborate on more technical shortcomings but I think fizzer & others already covered everything else I had in mind.
I don't usually complain about harsh mixing or lack of dynamic range in music like this but fucking hell the audio is just one messy noise sausage. It was almost unbearable in the hall.

On one hand, you guys can do a lot better when you focus - of course who am I to throw stones about rushing prods.
On the other hand, if your rushed prod is still better than anyone else, well, maybe that's not your fault :)

Cocoons prods are so good that they need levelled up pouet criticism. Just like after levelling up you meet that new warlock/guy with ferrari/classmate with atari lynx that make you realize you are still shit.
But those cameras could have moved a bit *disappears in ninja scrum master smoke*
the city scene cameras did seem a bit slow for the sound that was going on. but the overall quality of the engine and soundtrack still pulled it through imho.
reading back these anti-comments now i have to agree there are some valid points around. and i hope next cocoon prod is less rushed and more polished or on a different look & feel.

the tension is building -- how many times will cocoon release the same demo?
By the way, did spot some familiar looking animations playing on the big screens in that city scene..? There are animations from FLT/CNCD "Ziphead" and "Instant God" at least.. ;)
I thumbed up for the engine enough times in recent Cocoon demos, so that's no longer a mitigating factor when the contents itself is re-used stuff, rushed, and completely uninspired. Sorry.
WOAH!
Massive amount of work. Looks a bit rushed here and there, but definitely a massive production.
Was the last half somewhat inspired by this: https://vimeo.com/channels/beeple/140163198 ?

attitude.
this was super massive at the party!
this was super massive at the party!
During the deus ex like flyby scene (which was good, but that last part was way too static for my taste) I thought "hey, they're doing something different for a change", but then it descended into the same stuff I've been seeing for years now and that leaves me kinda bored now, never mind the technically excellent execution.
tl;dr: I remember nothing of it except untz untz neon untz blob bling untz
Do something different, guys, you have the tech and the skills!

Up for the visual presentation. Directionwise I would've preferred a Scandroid'esque soundtrack.
Sequence with taxi makes me think at a lucid dream , Luc Besson rulez !!! ;)
Next demo : Glon 243 for Amiga ? 2nd Cocoon demo on this support :p
Une bonne démo scénarisée humoristique pour les grands enfants, miam !
Thanx les gars

Congratz guys!
no wonder it won, a real crowdpleaser. not my style, but definitely thumbs up
The permanent-maximum-mayham music is absolutely unbearable after 2 minutes...
The only bad point is that (with all respect for other groups who released a PC demo...) you didn't had real challengers...
Now you've got to tell me how you managed to "rush" 350 Megabytes of compressed data :)
This rather look like severals weeks (if not months) of hard work to me.
Thumb up because reasons.

Good as always
nothing fresh but i like it, especially the scenes after that nuttin' face. but i still wonder what might happen if you guys go crazy contentwise.
what sense said =)
XXX and those trains rule, this demo is awesome!
I normally dig Cocoon's productions, but the city scene really had a "poor man's 3D Mark demo" feeling to it. If you can't compete in that discipline, do something else.
Otherwise business as usual - good stuff, albeit the reuse is growing strong.

It feels like a recycled demo, but the overall looks good. However, I had a very strange feeling about the city scene in which it looks like you’re rendering into a smaller framebuffer and upscale, which gives a poor and weak visual aspect.
Also, chromatic aberration is a nice effect, but you over abuse it.
The music is “regular”. Boom boom. Not my cup of tea.
In the end, as always, a good demo, but not as good as I thought it’d be. :)

Loved the Blade Runner like part, very convincing! :-D
Ca pète ! ;-p
Love it!
Soul Splitter was ok
Tour de force Cocoon style. The last 30 seconds save it for me :)
reminds me of the game Hard Reset....
Congrat ! the gi rendering is great ... Exploiting its probes to do what it was not expected to be used for ... For the best effects of the demo... pure style ...
Powerful enough to split my soul.
Insane amount of work and content, amazing! Very nice.
Good start and end. A bit too long winded in the middle section. Top graphics as usual.

Hello NTSC ^^ ,
The final version is coming soon ?
Nice rocking demo :)
Worthy Cocoon demo, with an interesting background story, good effects and nice flow. Well done!
super dynamic for a cocoon prod and with the usual unbelievable quality
Size don't matter in great demos
Nice graphics and music, but huge filesizes and bad connect between storyline and soundtrack, so piggy.
Holy shit, this is terrible. Music is uninspired and annoying. Graphics look like 80s. That chromatic abberation is way over the top and adds just another pile upon the bad scenes. Supercheesy ultracool flying bot scenes.
Would thump down twice if possible. It's just so bad.

it is still fascinating to see how UNMATCHING the audio and the visual is :D
Massive. Heavy. I dig the soundtrack so much that I got myself a signed CD from 2methyl.
OK, this is quite cool and in many ways too :).
Absolute killer!!!!
did I see a BATES tag at the wall in the end there? ;)

would be ok if either the music, the direction or the graphics were good, but feels off.
