Youtube ling of SIDBasic
SIDBasic is a SID palyer for a pure Enterprise 128KB machine without any hardware addon, it uses samples for playback.
It plays back special converted SID RAW data, which contains SID frequency, PWM, wave forms, ring mod bit and emulated volume values based on envelopes.
Recognize turbo machines and sets sample playback speed based on CPU frequency, 1st song is an example for this

M64 files if somebody wants to check on emulator or on real hardware :)

Looks sorta cool, but I wonder how well it deals with more modern tunes that abuse the SID quite a bit more.

Probably not so good, because there are some limitations:
SYNC, Low / High pass filters are not implemented, tune speed can be between 50-300Hz (and the step in this range is 50 Hz), combined waveforms works differently ( priority:noise > sawtooth > triangle > square wave),and digi effects can not be played back.

I like this a lot.

How much is leveraging off the capabilities of the native 'Dave' sound chip? I recall this has more abilities than a basic YM/AY type sound chip, but not as much as the SID.

Only 3 5bit volume register and frequency registers of channel 2 are used for set the 10KHz interrupt frequency, all other stuff is done by the CPU.

In one hand more, Dave has High/low pass filters, and ring modulation, and polynomial counter length can be chosen from 4 possibilities, in other hand Dave does not have hardware envelopes, and on same time there could not be noise and tone in the same channel, SID is the best :D

Thanks for the clarification, impressive work to get a half-decent SID emulation on an 8-Bit machine.

3 6bit volume register among the 8 volume registers :)
