Made with Unreal Engine 4 apparently :)

The Lemurian people of Prismbeings would like to exalt these true experts for demonstrating and upkeeping the scientific method and principles of standing on the shoulders of giants. This is how true progress in demoscene or any society or culture is made. Hopefully this production will erect immense social changes the scope of which haven't been matched.
Nice demo and fast :)
I liked the self-conscious 'troll' attitude (much like the previous Expert demo). As if the demo was a 4chan post.
It has some very nice scenes (I love the backflip guy in front of the sun), but it's all a bit disconnected. Rendering quality is at times great, but, well, I can't give you a thumb-up just because you're using someone else's high-quality engine :-)
doesn't start here (win8 x64) because .\data\Engine\Binaries\Win64\WININET.dll can't be loaded, it's just a textfile saying "pls don't connect to the internet" ... same with ws2_32.dll :|
what red said
win10 x64 here
win10 x64 here
same error as red.
apparently if you delete the .dlls it runs. looks quite crap and animations seem borrowed.
That was quite cool
For some oddity reasons I really like this demo. It's the chaos and defocus I like most. Keep it up guys and make it real next time :D
I really like this, kept me entertained from start to end! :) And the music was really cool!
Awesome coding skills!
what StingRay said ;-)
Exactly, fun and tune is great!
wherever the motion capturing stuff came from, I like it ;)
Music was really great,too!

shit! this is beautiful!
dance guys is MEGAMANS! %)

ha yes, deleting the files works indeed. seems i failed the iq test.
anyway, the sheer quality of the scenes together with the low hw requirements is ace, the music is the sugar on top.
on the minus side: lacks coherence, scenes are not really connected

Err.. so.. It's Unreal Engine with Autodesk mo-caps and random toruses? Trolling successful. I mean, the rendering is gorgeous, but the demo itself is random crap, so sorry.
dänk to the max
However I would like to thumb this up, I cannot, because of UE and well, you know... personal principles.
Nevertheless, we have like double-sided non-obvious message over here, nice touch, at least if I get it right :]
It has some good looking moments, too.

Sweet backflips and a donut with assault rifles. Direction kinda reminds me of Excess demos.
Really liked this one for it's artistic values. UE takes some points off in my eyes but still thumbs up.
When the torus armed itself I giggled, very meta, I don't care about UE at all, god forbid they'd tried Unity
boom!
I don't know what to say!? I'm in shock.
Liked that style and the music especially was good.
Srsly?
I get it's a parody, but it's just bad. Erf. Serious clicheville. No thumb up, but it at least avoids a thumb down, from me anyway.
Talk about a mixed bag. There were some nicely rendered scenes (UE or not), occasionally smart syncing and camera stuff plus a very decent and contemporary sounding tune. Entertaining, definitely. Most of the mocap scenes were ugly filler though, and there was random silliness which wasn't taken far enough. Piggie it is.
I like it, but the use of ue4 makes it a piggy. Design is great though and music is fantastic.
the unreal bits (lighting, depth of field) are great, the rest of it pretty hideous.
I'm not sure what this is but it did something right with the direction because I was thoroughly entertained throughout.
Too much borrowed stuff to thumb it up :/
It was entertaining yes. But then, as it has been said, the best bits (polishing of shaders etc.) was done for free by the Unreal engine. Add some rather bad choices (ugly mix of chinese shadows and dark volumetric light) and it all adds to a piggy.
Too tacky for me
What gargaj said, somehow I loved this. Will be the last UE4 or Unity demo I'll thumb up though :)
I... I don't know. I enjoyed the parody... but can't thumb up mediocre engine-demos. Enjoy your hard-earned piggy :)
I almost give it a piggie for the effort because of the last dancing scene with the metallic look. But knowing you just used UE to make that look good it doesn't save the demo from people who do somersault that bug through static geometrym ugly fonts, boring torusses and out of place colors and shapes. The music with that pitched up vocal felt a bit uninspired and tried to hype a lot. I must say that the music and the visuals at some point had a nice interation, mainly due to the highlights in some scene.
I have no clue why this ended up as second but I guess the music got the Assembly-crowd to vote.
Additional detractors for the fact you used UE and didn't mentioned this anywhere. I mean ripping commercial engines is one thing, but at least be honest about it. Sorry to be so harsh, but it is like that. I wish you the best of luck in new releases, because there is potential hidden there somewhere.

Exactly what Navis said about dark volumetric light.
And it was already discussed numerous time, but I can't thumb up a demo where 99% of the code wasn't done by the author of the demo. As release for a "wild" compo it would be an INSTANT-THUMB but as 2nd place in a demoparty it's a bit MEH :3

numtek: it was on the compo slide, and there's an appropriate code credit given.
i don't know if it's because of the music or the visuals or maybe the mix of both, but that thing has style
Don't mind the use of Unreal Engine.
The colors are hideous at times, and there is a lack of "real" content.
You couldn't make room for a real exe-launcher instead of bat files?
Nice music though.

Errrm, it all was a bit too random and all over the place. Sorry but I didn't enjoy this one even tho the music saves it from a thumb down.
If the rules allow using game engines, and if game engines can produce the same kind of stuff as "proper" demo engines then this is what you get. I think demos should be size limited as well. Allowing 256 megabytes compressed size is just rediculous IMHO.
Eggspertise put into good use!

Well, sotty to say, but I just watched it again and there aren't any credits for UE, either in the demo itself or in the .nfo-file.numtek: it was on the compo slide, and there's an appropriate code credit given.
It states:
code: t. sweeney
So I assume he did all the coding, since well,. he(/or she) is the only one credited for the code.
Thanks for pointing out it was on the beamslide, but I haven't been to Assembly (I was at Evoke instead), so how could I have known? I didn't catch any "appropriate code credit" but I could have overlooked it.
*sorry
modern music.
numtek: consider googling who Tim Sweeney is. Also of course you couldn've have known about that, but also it's not like the party audience wasn't aware of it.
what smash said...
I'm quite positive this production had almost no extra coding from knowing something about UE4.
Question is that what is the point of coding demos any more when you can get this quality effects with this less amount of effort in realtime. Especially if there's no coding and optimizing involved? This has not been an issue for me before because demotools like werkkzeug have been somewhat limited in what they can do.
Maybe we should consider banning UE from demo compos?

That said I do enjoy watching this. And the track is kick ass.
the track is good.
the visuals are ... mostly not.
but 2nd place? come on ...

Cute
I did like the demo very much, but I just cannot bring myself to upvote because UE. Downvoting would also seem a bit harsh, so piggy it is.
One way to handle entries like this would be to limit the compressed filesizes for engines such as this. But would that introduce tools like "UE4 minifier".
For a beginner coder such as myself, it kinda feels rotten to see entries with such high visual quality, that took next to nothing to actually code. But such is the case with any engine. Maybe one day I will have one.

I dunno, maybe the party voters loved the mocap and smooth DOF, but overall the job feels second-rate.
what exactly is so bad about UE engine that is not with Unity?
what Stingray and Arvenius said
worked for me
good stuff! despite UE, contains nice direction and overall enjoyable experience.
like a bosch
I really enjoyed it. It's weird and the music fits the mood perfectly.
I have to say that UE4:
1. Doesn't bring talent
2. Doesn't do just about anything content-wise for you
3. Still has a bunch of things you have to work on to get something good out of it
4. Is just another tool for making demos
Now, I find it a bit disturbing that the choice of tools affects voting, and digs up a whole another kind of can of worms relating to the question of "purity of a production", whether everything has to be custom coded from the ground up.
I've always liked the analogy of "does a painter mix their own paints every single time? No. Do they physically make their own wooden palettes and brushes? No necessarily, but they can. Can their paintings still be masterpieces if they didn't make the canvas? Yes."

Can't thumb this up.. As I know the sheer amount of work that goes into coding an engine that can run good looking 3d or effects this seems like a nasty shortcut (UE).. Mocap? We thought of using those but I like hand animation as it feels more your own prod then. Piggie from participating. Hope you guys do more of your own content next time.
visy: because we're talking engines i'm going to make an analogy about cars. here goes..
making a demo is like motor racing: the result is a combination of the car and the driver. in some motorsport, for example rally driving, the weight is more on the driver - the car is still important but its the skill of the driver that really makes it. but in other motorsport, like say drag racing, its far more about the car. every particular motor sport has that sliding scale between the quality of the car and the skill of the driver. and so it is for demos and the engines they use.
i have no problem at all with commercial engines being used to make demos, but when it comes to rating the results it really depends what you do with it. for demos like jugi's unity-based productions, it seems like the driver did most of the good work and deserves the credit. but in this particular demo, lets say it's more on the drag racing side of things.

Hah, point taken, I stand corrected good sir :)numtek: consider googling who Tim Sweeney is.
Pretty shameful.
Damn son, where'd you find this?
Quite liked it. Nice music too.
This was a weird experience. There's this strong feeling that the quality levels of the different aspects of the demo don't match up. Basically what smash said.
oh noes, design and direction stayed at home
Weird dancing between demo cliches, cool and kitschy.
Boring and uninspired.
At first this demo annoyed me for using a game engine and downloaded assets made by other people.
Then after I thought about it for some time I realised this is one of the greatest jokes pulled off in scene history. As much as I have no respect for using a game engine it does not break any compo rules. It is obviously fast made and entered as a joke although the music is actually decent.
But the funniest part of all is that people voted this to 2nd place and the creators made some cash by trolling a demoparty. Don't hate this demo, hate the people who voted for it.

i don't care about the technical details, this demo is entertaining, i like it. music is especially a nice one.
a successful jump from gamecoding to demoscene. :)
random trolling, but at last not again an unconscious technodemo.

The music is one of my favorites in the compo. The design and sync is cool. Maybe next time you should use custom engines and such. :D
Random things glued together...
Manages to ruin a good tech with poor taste.
So rotating torus and animated character in UE4 is what it takes to rank 2nd at Assembly now?

Weird motivation, which makes it novel and interesting. Refreshingly terrible design. But more authorship would be better, make your own refreshingly terrible engine.
I think using an engine is fine, but the content here is just SO shitty and not funny.
Like the tune, like the attitude. It deserves a better demo :)
A Machinima in my demoscene?
It's a cool demo, great soundtrack, interesting design & animations, looks good. I liked it!
Regarding UE4 - coders aren't the only sceners, and sceners aren't exclusively coders. The code isn't the only thing about a demo. It's not 1989 anymore, tools and engines and libraries exist. In this case UE4 allowed something cool to exist that otherwise wouldn't have, so it's fine by me.

I wasn't there, but i feel like this was a joke demo, right? (UE4 can do beautiful things, but this was intentionally not one of those). Next one will be better I suppose. But I'm surprised it came 2nd in the compo.

You fucking hypocrites. You people never bat a eye when people use shit like 4klang, V2, werkzeugg, Crinkler or even Unity in Poo-Brain's case, but you people get all pissy about some UE4?
Quote:

EXACTLY
People are truly hypocrites. Seriously, fuck pouet, its worse than 4chan/8chan/prochan/reddit.
Oh yeah well you're worse than EP
That certainly put me in my place. :/
This is not a demo, it's a wild entry. Make it clear next time and then we can talk about fair competition.
I have no probs with engine (i'm so noob when i saw this while drunk i thought it was selfcoded) and if i ever did a demo i would most probably use one myself, but i have other issues with this. Colours, bright contrast... something distracts me to give only a piggie. Definitely not worth 2nd place IMO.
Not seeing similar walls of complaining for Jugi's Unity prods, just saying.
Or the Clickteam Fusion demo in the same compo.
Well I really enjoyed it. Borrowed content all over the place, sure, but they managed to put it into a new context with nice scenes and direction.
Looking forward to their next demo. I have no problem if they'll be using UE again, but maybe with some more selfmade assets, or at least more clarity what was selfmade and what wasn't. That said - welcome to the scene, guys!

what maali and smash said
now that i watched it.. I like the music, and I like the style. I don't like fake dll files in a silly attempt to block a commercial from connecting the internet - that's what disassemblers are for FFS.
Also being an elitist swine, i don't like commercial engines being used. At all. Surely opions differ, but for me it's also the technical side of a demo that should impress me - and having absolutely no own contribution from the coding department... that's just meh. I don't want to be part of a demoscene where the coding is optional.
That being said, I decided to judge this demo by it's looks:

i liked this production, sure it was quite unfinished at times, but afterwards you still remember it as good.
quite many of coders (scripters?) use engine done by someone else, usually by group-mate. nothing bad here.
using commercial engine is somewhat scene-tardism. but it's happening, you liked it or not. maybe correction of compo rules are to be considered.
but. i would have given piggy for a good try, but the amount of conversation, critisism and feedback this demo made. whoa.

Nice Demo that, especially the soundtrack.
I just wonder what Tron Sweeney aka Maali did in here...the logos? (downthumbing your own prod, eh? i did so before...)
Misses some real effects, which for me still is the MainEssence for a Demo...

am i late for the drama? ^^ i'll thumb up the result anways. and yes, i love that tune ♥
I enjoyed it.
I don't think "t. sweeney" knows about this demo:
Specially not this Tim Sweeney.
I had to go all the way down to "eks_demo2\data\Engine\Binaries\Win64" to find a reference to the use of Unreal Engine, and it looks to me that according to the UE4 license you're required to mention explictly (but maybe it's just for interactive content) that you use it:
Which makes the demo somehow against the law failing to mention the most important third party thingy.
I like the begining of the demo with that red oceany stuff I was kind of excited, but after that it was downhill all the way.

Soundtrack plox?
Against the law! To jail with them!
The Law of Assembly, which requires you to clear your samples and such.
The real demo is in Pouet comments.
As Unreal Engine does not apply to coding area comments.
What we have left in here to comment about this?
a model?
severeal template animations?
...erm..toruses?
a bloing-bloing-waka-waka soundtrack?
a starfield script in UE?
Seriously, boys try to configure a development environment and make things right from the ground. it's even more fun!!!

Wow, the music! Kudos!
But oh no, the "logo" at 0:51. Bah, the torus. Cool DOF and human model animation, but wtf, made with Unreal Demo Maker?
Sigh guys, it's a pity your professional trolling makes you feel like kings. Don't you even notice you're just uncool.
And it goes

The music had some genius parts, ruined by several horrible instruments and parts. The visuals looked gorgeous in places, which seems to be thanks to the commercial engine, and lots of UGLY parts thanks to the designers behind the wheel.
Uh, no.
Uh, no.
cool and includes nice message :)
really didn't like it.
my eyes! wow, so many strong colors. It's packed to the brim with tacky wtf-scenes. Better luck next time.
dance revolution
For some reason first part reminds me HBC, but... Text on scroller and next scene right after it... This is just stupid.
I like the demo.. to bad about the drama
I see a lot of good editing effort here! That's pretty cool. Makes stacks of boxes with spinning shining torus somewhat enjoyable! Given the music quite nice atually!
But well... the lack of original content sums it up as a piggy for me :|
But well... the lack of original content sums it up as a piggy for me :|
Anyway, I like the demo, the style and the music.
Some good looking stuff mixed with some bad looking things.
Takes hints from quite a few places and is apparently not ashamed to show it ;) Lots of style to go around for sure, even if not too coherent sometimes.
Just NO.
Not technically impressive but i liked it
Its like Apple products, nice and shiny. But thats basically it.
Me likes.
I'm not sure how much of a joke this was, IIRC there was a point behind this release... but the fact is: I like it. Very fresh in the compo.
The soundtrack is spot on, nice to hear some trap vibes in a demo.
The dancing scene is kinda cool.
The direction/syncing works.
Actually my main grief is that the demo "breaks character" during the show (compared to a Hackers or Carl B demo for example).

so much effort to make it as ugly as shit yet to stay coloristically consequent to keep the style go on.. I'd watched it sober and drunk and many times over to come back to comment. Saying.. this fucking demo came with a message ;-) I love it.
