It was from The Party 2, thus released in (or near) December 1992. Can I get half a glop now? :)

copper! the official pc scene vga card torture test - I had a tseng card which skimped on at least 2 parts :)
The graphics by JOE were nice too (fortunately, because most of the demo consists of bending bitmaps one way or the other)

The oldschool clasic demo full of clasic hardware VGA effects inspired by Amiga!

This one definitely had some amazing things in it - I remember it running very smooth on almost everything I could find back then...

It had some nice pictures by j.o.e, but also some that might have been drawn in a hurry... But to think this competed with Panic :)

many effects don't work on my card (Riva TNT). :\ i think i've discovered that zoom effect myself some years ago... by accident. :D
needs a hardcore vga card. Rules, though.

Like saffron said a decade (!) ago, a good VGA torture test. I swear the horizontal wobble on the pictures is a *monitor* effect, but Trixter can correct me on that if he ever reads this. I managed to see it run 100%, like, once, but since I tossed out my CRT I probably won't again.

Also a good torture test for the DOSBox emulator. Set to "vgaonly" (formerly "demovga"), it gets most of it right, with the raster/copper bars and vertical stretching/wobbling. Emulating the adlib properly seems to be an issue though.

The horizontal wobble is a card effect but it needs a fixed-frequency monitor to work properly, as multi-sync monitors will likely think a new mode is being set and try to sync to it. It works by using the Start Horizontal Retrace Pulse Register, which is typically used to center the screen horizontally by specifying the character position where the "horizontal retrace" signal goes active. You can do this trick on CGA adapters too, although it is much cruder on CGA. (Should also be possible on MDA and EGA but I've never tried.)

Some detailed testing over by one of the DOSBox authors revealed this:

Quote:

The line fading effect uses the attribute register 3C0h index 14h. VGADOC says: "Note: this register does not affect 256 color modes." The demo runs in 256 color mode.

I've tried the following cards:

ET4000AX TC6058AF - perfect
ET4000AX TC6059AF - no line fading
ET4000AX TC6100AF - no line fading
ET3000AX 11038F-0005 - no line fading, flood fill problem
S3 Trio class - problems with picture bouncing, wobbling, flood fill, zooming, no line fading
TVGA8900B - problems with picture bouncing, wobbling, flood fill, no line fading
OTI037C 8 bit - problem with wobbling, y-zooming, no line fading
KU82706 - problems with picture bouncing, wobbling, no line fading
So Tseng Labs fixed an incompatibility in later chip revision. This also means that DOSBox has a bug .

This demo was written for the TC6058AF.

So for anyone trying to run this perfectly, you need an exact version of the ET4000, or maybe an early ET3000 card.

Captured from TFT with wobble:

Captured VGA signal, grabber fixes wobble effect with x-shift, but overall better quality.

Awesome little prod. Ran fine on my old 386, shame I don't have it anymore.

Copying amiga cancer (well, at least there it was kinda cute sometimes...) to PC I don't think was a very good idea.

how to fuck up your vga to do some nice stuff ;)
neat music and good set of effects (pity that some fxz run only on Tseng cards)

Interesting tech, if I understand it correctly. Music sounds a lot like a certain Strikeforce/Movers intro tune. :-)

This product is indeed nice, but it claims using hardware-features of the vga,
so I thought I could run it on my A2286/8, but that was a bad idea.
The music and the effects slow down dramatically, so it's not for ultra-low-end.
Nice adlib tune for something different. Half the effects dont't work on my 386 with onboard paradise vga, I think. Youtube to the rescue :/
