God rest you merry gentlemen and thanks for the greets! One of my favourite christmas tunes ever. I like the fact that there were many other references to Christmas songs as well. Visuals were realy cute as well and it ran perfect here, bummer that it got disqualified. Happy Holidays!

Tried to find the appropriate DLLs for the organizers to get it run on a machine without the June 2010 SDK - no chance (and the others ate my Schnitzel in the meanwhile!).
June 2010 DX is deprecated - please avoid this dependency.
But on Win8.1 d3dcompiler_47 is available ;)
And what the heck do you need XAudio for?
Tried to find the appropriate DLLs for the organizers to get it run on a machine without the June 2010 SDK - no chance (and the others ate my Schnitzel in the meanwhile!).

And XAudio 2.7 is used for our softsynth. We had previously been relying on DirectSound and then upgraded to XAudio, since it kind of does the same thing. But I didn't know of its versioning issues on Win8 (stock Windows 8 apparently only comes with XAudio 2.8).

We use winmm all the time, because it's available everywhere.

I would recommend: Make your stuff run at least on a vanilla Win 8.1 (i.e. fresh Win 8.1 install + graphics driver, no additional dx user runtimes) - if you want to go crazy, also support a fallback for d3dcompiler_43.dll or something like that - so it will run on a lot of older systems (otherwise you will certainly get some strange thumbdowns).
Drop XAudio if possible and switch to something more classic.
