impressive for 4k, but ugly and slow
Long precalculation, low framerate, short intro... but so beautiful.
so, here is an other prod of us. hope you enjoy it.. this time 'just' shader version 2.0 is needed. d3dx9_25.dll should be present as well.
at the party the ati graphic card had problems with the per pixel linear fog, we couldn't fix in time. on Nvidia graphic cards it schould work nicely. ...or you just check out the captured vid at http://www.bitpopler.de/fileadmin/Gaia.avi
some facts about this intro:
development time was full time 2 weeks.
it consist of 4 pixel shaders and one vertexshader... the depth of field and glow shader we weren't able to fit :-D
the nice music was made by ddeml prooving the limits of his synth using bandpass and several other filter, i didn't understand.
all meshes are per pixel lightned with bump mapping.clowds water and bump was made just with one 3d perlin noise. the main scene consist of exaclty 100k plants recursively renderd with several matrices.. so this is the bottleneck, lod and frustum culling did good job, but not good enogh...
anyway i will not bore you with tech stuff... just ask if you want to know

Water is ugly. And it's slow.
Nice idea and water shader. The rest is OK, but didn't impress me too much. Overall it sums up to a nice, but not outstanding prod, but that's just my opinion.
lunatic: I don't know how others, but I don't mind tech stuff. :)

do not run, here on RadeonX1600Pro
Nice 4k
really slow on my machine.. amd 1.8 ghz, ATI gfx. almost made my system crash so i had to kill it.
Quite beatifull scenes, though it gets too slow. Still thumbs up for 4k!
It's too plastic.
clicked & waited & smoked & waited & waited & turned off my computer.
i like it, esp. the music is very nice!
really good 4k! greetz to whoever it was who was sat opposite me (sorry I don't remember your name :) ).
impressive stuff.. remind to run this in 3 years time so I'm not looking at a slideshow ;)
would've been better without the music and the trees
Would've been better with KHAN! Pretty but too slow.
Would have deserved the first place imo.. Anyways, great one guys.
Massive, even if it was TOO slow (and that is definetely bad)
the genesis effect :)
i think it should be nice if runs 'realtime' :)
Should've been 1st for sure.
Though even the compo machine was overstrained

REPLAY CALLED - THEY WANT THEIR SPF COUNTER BACK
ok
outstanding prod
should have won hands off
should have won hands off
impressive in both look and lack of rendering speed ;)
great 4k
isn't it nice, that warm fuzzy feeling you get.. :D
vs? ps?
so why it worked on my riva tnt, and even good..? :D

Nice effects and music, but it is quite "ugly" so to say. So it is a ok from me.
slow, and it doesnt look very pretty in a number of places, but the sheer amount and quality of content is extremely impressive. was very suprised it didnt get 1st.
nothing on it's own is that amazing - there have been better synths+music, better landscapes+planets, better looking water and clouds in 4k before. but add it all up, drop in some camera and timing work and, well, if you ever made a 4k yourself you'll know how hard this would have been to pull off :)

I must agree with smash.
Like the man said, all the individual pieces are so-so, but the result is stunning. It gives me the 'demo-squished-into-4k' feeling. Or maybe Paradise by RGBA in 4k, although it's been a long while since I've seen THAT...
@blackpawn: Glad to see someone else recognized the Genesis effect :-)

Definitly better then the winner
ok, not sure what it had to do with gaia though
outstanding..
impossibly slow
the amount of content nails it for me.
Smash has a point
my pc fuckd thank yuo
solid
a e s t h e t i c
10 years later I can watch it. It's beautiful
Very impressive for the time it was made.

- The framerate sucked on the compomachine (and it was a pretty powerful machine :P)
