lovely sid music by mortimer "master of all trackers" twang. style-wise going from more-or-less traditional to electronics, garage and even dancehall/reggae. a must-hear!

nice one, didn't like all of the tunes, but it's nice to see/hear mortimer on the c64
sorry, this is so-so at best... you can definitely hear that mortimer doesn't really know the SID. Sound-wise the tunes are much like my first sidtune attempts when I was 14, and it would be a definite "sucks" if it wasn't for m's style consciousness and the amusingly oldschoolish triad cracktro.
ok prod
nevertheless i consider this compilation of tunes as a kinda enlightment. kb, you might have a point saying that mt doesnt really know the SID (he's from the amiga and started to experiment around with c64 only recently afaik), but perhaps that's what makes his music so special. c64 music needs a new approach instead of copying decade-old techniques. i'm not active on c64 myself, but i keep myself updated on new musicdisks/compos reaularely, i'm really bored of the same cliché synth sidtune stuff that sounds like 10 years ago. if c64 demos advance visually, why shouldnt music advance, adopting new styles? 80s sids just copied the style of its time's synthpop, so it's only logical that the new generation of innovative sid composers (of which i would like to specially point out goto80/ht) get influenced by new music styles like drum'n'bass. perhaps mt is still not perfect when it comes to techniques, but i like this nu-skool approach on sids very much. i never heard approaches to garage/2step (hello molly) or a remake of a classical reggae riddim (stalag sketch) on sid... another thing that makes the tunes so speciall is the usade of the bass synth, which is so different to "normal" sidtunes and rather reminds on uk dance music (garage, dnb) basslines. this is really fresh and stands out inmidst all this retro stuff (which i surely appreciate too, but new moves have to be made).
you know, this one is very good, but the latest YMrockerz disc popstars is ofcoz better =)
I think it is pretty lame. I have heard some really phat stuff from mortimer, but this just isnt it.
this is one of the few cases when i am absolutely sure i will love demothing even before checking it out.. mortimer and triad = woah! i've heard his c64 experiments before and i believe this to become my favorite when i'll be able to run on my c64..
ps. kb did u use emulator sir yes or no check correct answer blah the beeb the sound!
ps being stoned at 6 in the morning, ffeels very fffreesh indeed =)
raver, kb was most likely refering to the sounds of some of the sids =) i/e the filtering etc which is quite mangled at some parts
w00p
sounds brighter with 8580, though i doubt the tunes are made with it.
wow! 2003 design inside a c64 oldmachine. weird!
wow!
mortimer tee, triad and ageema!!!
bomb da bass!!

i never really listened to it when it was released, probably i was put off by the sounds (not that i really care much about such things), but after dipswitch comments i decided to give it another go. its good, really good and should be encouraged since mortimer twang along with goto80(just notice that i cant come up with any other name than the already mentioned goto80) are sid musicians who take influence from other genres and musicians than the usual ones. i am so fed up with the sid compo posse and their worn out style and their mutual back scratching. this is just what i ( and hopefully others) need
imho heinmuck fits pretty much into the same "innovative c64 musicians" category.
I really like this stuff!
mortimer rockin' it sid stylee
Nice tunes.
fresh!
some good, some not-so-good. kudos for originality however.
nnice layout ... the music doesn't sound like hits though. i've enjoyed it anyway.
Great ZIK disk :)
Reel
Mortimer T+SID
One of the most interesting musicdisks I recall coming across.
