Excellent stuff, Nothing else expected from them crazy Dudes... (he he)
A nice trip into the past!
Amiable
Bit divided by this, but technical merit aside oldskool homage dies when not on oldskool platforms. What are you doing? Come to the platform you say you love!
Love Hemoroids html5-demos!
I second Photon on this
Complete snorefest. Redoing those 20 year old effects in javascript gives no value here. Though, I suppose this is meant to be some kind of jokeprod anyway.
Love the 80s colorful palette, the cool funky music and old school feel. Both the intro and credit music track are surprisingly good too!
Contrary to some more purist than me, I love old school theme on overdrive on modern hardware like this prod. For me, it's a legitimate way to honor the past style and technique. A refreshing new spin on old stuff.
Sad there is no off-line version. I would keep this. When the host goes out, this prod will be lost forever.

LOL
I think we've seen enough of these, right. And the music was quite boring.
Very nice ! Special thumb up for the big bang theory effect, the design, the beautiful colors and gfx and the great music !
Enough is enough.
Okish
Nice Nice Baby
Hi all!
I'm not a purist nor a coder, and i really enjoyed looking this demo.
it's amazing to be able to code for a browser, things that pushed the limits of hardware years back. Nice GFX, nice effects, nice music, nice job dudes!
:-)

A lot of work done in here.
nice stuff
just terrible
Oldschool is fine if you're showing some cool stuff on a limited platform, but this is showing stuff the amiga did (ok, updated a little) and it's stressing my i7. It's not what the old school was about at all, for me at least. Oldschool is also fine if you do it 21st century style, like some of keops' stuff, and this goes there a bit, but only a little.
Normally I'd give a prod a solid thumb down for that, but on the other hand the design is pretty cool in places, and some of the effects are good, so it's a pig.
Raise your aim a little and drop the old school pretence and this would fly :)

Please no more fauxschool stuff, okay? This kind of "oldschool" has been dead for years and the corpse has already withered.
I like the oldschool effects even if in JS =).

@ALL Mongos leaving negative Comments, iam pretty sure, you just are newschool mongos, who never had a chance of being part of the koolest around , The OldSchool People!. so just shut the fuck up, and enjoy what people give you, fuckin'moaning folk.
Haha ! Haters are stupid kids that know nothing more than the shitty 3D demos with 10 frames per sec on Youtube ! That's not on Wikipedia that they will learn the real life !!! (lol)
I won't thumb it down just because I don't like the themes, but seriously: enough with the "oldschool!!!11oneoneone"-stuff okay? In the compo it felt like this would never end, and that's not a good impression to leave people with.
The prod itself does have some nice touches, and a cool tune.

Being an oldskool coder myself from the C64 days, and now working in JS using the same platform to remake old Amiga/ST/C64 demos, this kind of screen is great to see - great work guys!
I never understood why one would make a oldschoolish demo in javascript.
I would give this a pig but I am giving it a thumb down because of bunch of selfvotes.

No problem with some oldschool vibe but please please add your own twist and style. Also, make that dots curve 500.000 or 1.000.000 dots and we'll start to talk. :\
You've got skills. Bring something new to the table! Add your own touch!

@p01 : make your brain 500.000 or 1.000.000 neurons then we'll start to talk ! :D
I like this sort of oldschool demo, on each computer and on every OS.
The style are there and it's fun and amazing to see this production today :)
The design, effects, graphics and the musics are "TERRIBLE" ! (~great!)
Ok ! I admit that I always coded and I still code today oldschool demos on Atari ST and I like this stylish demo, thanks HMD :)

javascript rocks
Good
nice, but i would rather watch something like this on an oldschool platform :)
I am not sure how much js has evolved, but some of the screens and the resolution, it seemed quite impressive to pull without acceleration on js.
And I also did enjoy the demo a lot, most effects look nifty, with great colors.
Well yes, I would prefer Hemoroids on oldschool platforms, but this was good too.

sorry, but this one bored me to death
Some people will never get tired of seeing rasterbars and spinning cubes, I guess.
But what really irks me here, is the broken grammar. :P

A demo without rasterbars is not a demo U faggot ! :)
Oldschooler discourse at its very best.
nice and smooth, well done guys ;)
Basicially what many others said. It was fun for a while, but I wish this type of "oldskool" would die already.
ahahahaha Hexogen great!!!
LamerP01 : you got so poor life to make so nasty comment?
We made code for fun, that's the concept of demo making... you know?

omg, two selfvotes for the same prod :(
And no respect for woodwind instruments. :(

What p01 said. Props to Totorman for a more reasonable response.
Oldschool Never Diessss?
I thought it was a tad bit long, I would have liked a twist but it was ok.
Piggie becuse of multiple selfvoting.

This demo did nothing for me except to bore me. Pretty much all the "oldschool effects on powerful platforms" demos that don't add anything new to the mix have that effect on me. But it is executed well enough not to deserve a thumb down.
Easy with the name calling.
I'm quite happy in life, thank you for wondering Jace.
If you read it again, you will see my comment was rather positive.
Anyhow, here is a little test showing a 3M DYPP dots curve at 60fps ( on my 2-3yo desktop computer ) like the good 'ole dots world records we used to have on Atari. Hope the oldschoolers will like it.
Looking forward to something fresh!

Highly enjoyable!
What Alpha C said.
:)
What does this demo want to achieve? Invoke nostalgia, and that's it? I mean, what's the point of doing oldskool effects on modern hardware when it's so trivial to achieve? All those effects don't look good by themselves, they only looked good in context way back when because it was amazing to be able to do them on limited hardware.
Either do oldskool effects on oldskool hardware, or use your obvious skills on modern hardware for something more creative. :)

Let haters hate! Eventho i get their reasoning!
I actually like it...must have been lots of fun to make this! :)
The music is nice and fitting, but i would have wished for sth more melodic maybe...more variation. But, as said, fits and i can live with it as is for sure! :)
btw: those were no sprites, as javascript has no hardware-sprites, as its software. If you say Amiga you gotta name em BOBs...but again, javascript is software, so does not have a coprocessor named Blitter (Blitter-OBjects, you know) ...no idea left how to name em, maybe pixelArrays! ...ok, back to the start: lets call em sprites, atleast everyone knows whats meant this way! :D [/brainfuck]

Very nice demo! I've been watching it with pleasure :)
Works flawless... but fake oldschool just doesn´t cut it
terrible
This demo has some nice touches.
However what ruins it for me is the lengthy texts / scrollers... Every "oldschool" prods has them. They really turn what could be an enjoyable moment into agony.
I left the demo looping the same scene in the background while reading all the positive and negative comments here. Guess what? At that point the demo didn't even display the third effect.
Waiting...
Or maybe it's a timing / synchronization issue because now the music has finished playing and I'm still seeing new scenes / effects being display. Music has been finished playing for a minute already and I'm at the "Dots are my favorites... You're seeing 50.000 dots" part.
I just closed the tab, the demo was displaying the plasma after the dots scene. How many effects remaining? I will never know. Your lengthy texts at the beginning exhausted me :)
