well done guys. Don't believe what the nfo says : I did not do a thing in that prod. I can thumb this up with violating the pouet golden rule.

Did you seriously not only rip the music, but rip an UNRELEASED track off YOUTUBE with THE LABEL WATERMARKS in it?!
I'm sorry guys, but no demo is good enough to go past that bullshit.

*then-unreleased
*sigh* another scene drama? :( Gargaj, perhaps Cocoon had permission from the makers who also are credited ?
Why accusations? Why not contact Cocoon first..
Cocoon is making demos for such a long time.. I can't imagine they doing this. Keep up the good work Cocoon!
(i save my thumb untill i have taken the time to see the demo)

magic, you mean they had the permission but still resorted to using a watermarked version? Yeeeeeeaaah...
As awesome as usual. Cocoon rocks :)
Video please.
you guys, rulez
you know why.
Not sure if ripped or permitted, but they greet "pospy team" (yeah, right!) ;)
ok, i hope they provide a final (or provide the proper hq-non-watermarked) track
aaaaahhh big sorry! everything is fine. but why don't you use the correct audio file? ôO
mediocre demo. short and looks unfinished. i'll leave the thumb for magic!
Drama or not, i like it.
sorry gargaj but i second my crew mates here:
we did had the green light from the author himself.
check it out before acting like a scumbag.

guille/nytrik: I did, actually. After watching the demo I asked DQ, who I knew has known (and worked with) Wintermute, and according to him Wintermute didn't know about this and was quite upset. Add this to the mix of having a seriously low compression quality track with watermarks and I think I had a pretty good case.
But yeah. I publicly apologize for the accusation about using the track without permission.
That being said, my thumb still stands because I can't believe you couldn't spend ~2 minutes on buying the track off Beatport and making an edit out of it if it was too long. That bothers me a lot more than whether the music had permission or not, because it feels that I was cheated as an audience.

And here is my Thumb! Keep em coming guys!
nice demo, slick rendering, filters off to a standard affair towards the end, oh and is it just me? but i i didn't think the music was that good ironically, just personal taste, keep up the good work guys! :)
I haven't seen the demo, I'm just gonna counterthumb gargaj
for the second ranking
by the way we felt proud to be given the approval to use neonlight tracks. i hope we will have another opportunity loke this in the future.
music won't really fit for me. and it's a bit short and feels very empty. but still a nice looking show :D
Hell yes.
nice ! ( however the frame rate isn't excellent on my Nvidia GeForce 770 )
i like it :) cocoon style . don't mind you rocks
good one. usual cocoon quality.
Fuck javascript.
This is the real thing. :D
This is the real thing. :D
Nothing wrong with Javascript, though I haven't seen the demo. I kind of liked the visual look of this, though it could've been more dynamic. The metaballs-like thing was nice.
I like it :)
Great one! Reflections are really good.
the sphere is not rotating. wtf.
Nice atmosphere; I especially like colors (red over shades of grey, always convenient!). Great job :)
Opening scene was a definite highlight.
great stuff
The Indiana Jones part, seen in the screenshot, didn't have as much impact. Maybe it was missing some camera shaking. The intro and glass parts were great!
Guille: Sorry to hear you feel bitter about the 2nd place. After 18 years, you should know your compos better: Demosplash was held at Carnegie Mellon, while an awesome place, this is clearly not your heavy tech demoscene hideout. No doubt the audience would fall for something "lighter" with a "retro" or "chiptune" feel.

Double thumb up because you greeted "pospy team" :D

good work!
still good for me.
nice solid good looking demo. nice shading and reflection.
has the quality running through it to easily place itself in the demoscene's top tier %, party placing aside.

Great work - love the reflective sphere (even if it runs horribly, AMD7870)...
- so your musician is so unrelated to you that you can't even get an edited down version..? :/ - awesome track though, great demo but can't thumb up with watermarked music...
Quote:
@dq : the full version of the song is more than 5mn long. and the "soundcloud" version 2mn40... just that.....

The rendering and look is top notch - really, really good-looking (and runs smoothly on my PC). The intro is perhaps one of the coolest and best-looking intro-pieces I have seen in 10 years - it. is. stellar.
But that's really where the awesome ends, unfortunately. The rest feels just utterly random and dragged out to fill just barely two minutes, which makes the intro feel misplaced.
On the side of the music, it's a good thing the clearance was worked out, but it doesn't really matter: the watermarked YouTube/SoundCloud-rip is just.. no. Just no. If I had been the musician, I'd be _PISSED_ if you used such a version in your demo.

for the first minute. the rest is meh.
Gloom & Hornet not have a musician ... that 's the point of going to soundcloud.
nytrik: you misunderstand me. There's nothing wrong with sourcing music in -- but since you got the permission, you should also have gotten a proper file, not a triple-compressed MP3 with audio watermarks.
nytrik: what would you think of "Numb Res" if, every 30 second, a voice cut in and said "COPYWRIGHT STEREO WILDLIFE" or "THE LIGHTHOUSE - OUT ON BANDCAMP AND ITUNES ON DECEMBER 18TH!".
Those things, and the bad audio quality, is a total mood-killer, sorry.

way to make a pompous ass out of yourself, gargaj :) even though i do agree about the audio issue.
cool demo. cocoon rocks.
Impressive use of meta-object stuff!! But not fan of other static scenes.

software javascript demo wasn't insulting enough
:D
Kinda cool. Yes, it's short and stops making more and more sense towards the end, but not enough to justify dropping the thumb.
Something is missing in this demo. It never catches my interes. Seems like sloppy/hurried/left hand work or something. Guess I expected something more . Would probably thumb up if it was a less known/skilled group, so piggie from me.
Nice little demo, I enjoyed it!
Btw, it's written "pospy" instead of "popsy team" in the greetings, and "razor" miss is "1911" number, but you probably prefer shortened groupname :D

nice. doesn't catch me bigtime. vibe is kinda thin and fast. but.. good palette. good visual. good fx.
the audio topic?!? i didn't even really notice the watermarks. the tune's pace and vibe runs them over quite nicely. just reading they were there and "heard" them. better not do that again. ;)

So the music doesn't really fit the demo and overall it's a tad "boring". But I really like the visuals these times. Great red lines / lasers and overall coherency. Much better than the previous Cocoon effort imho. Needs some polishing I guess?!
Nice demo
Starts promising with great style and ends with too much flybys of the same scene. But all in all its a thumb up.
generic and soulless.
Counteracting cherri's usual idiotic thumb-down, plus what Kusma said.
norwegians don't have souls so you don't understand. i pity you.
ok
Completely agree with kusma, but watermarked music, jesus christ. I fully understand Gargaj's reaction to this.
But
Do you usually put yourself on a pedestal? - maybe the voters didn't like the watermarks as well?
.. also, all this fuzz could have been avoided if you just wrote it in the nfo

Very nice visuals but a little too short / too few scenes, we want moar ! :-)
nice and clean rendered visuals. the demo starts really cool and then gets more and more static.
not sure about the soundtrack - it's quite inconspicuous.

@ Gargaj,
i'm a big fan of the group Plastic, and i think that you're very active on Pouet.net. Unfortunatly, for years now, you are nonexistent in demo production. Are you going to do again some demo on PC or are you going to continue to do theses horrors on PS3???
with all my respect for your talent to code, and for the staff that i also appreciate (group Plastic)

p01 wins :)
gargaj is a fucking jerk (you know what's up motherfucker) but also a saint and a frequent releaser, so cut that bullshit already
Rafaele029whatever: boy, you make no sense.
Nice visuals but rather boring demo. Don't like the music either, no matter if watermarked or not. But using the music like this, well, no comment. And what dwarf said regarding losing to a JS demo. The greetings to "pospy" made me giggle though. :D
servile scum.
you dont get the point.
this is freedom. deal with it.

The music is not too interesting and the sound quality doesn't help. I wouldn't care about it being "ripped" though even if it was. Luckily though, the demo is pretty cool (though I'm already getting a bit tired of this style), what a-move said.

okay. well. this can't be cocoon. i have nothing to say to this.
Nice 'little' prod, relatively speaking :). Like much those real time reflections used together with 3D modeling. Waiting for the next big Cocoon demo !
Like it. Performance could be a bit better ;)
I agree that hearing the watermark on this audio track is a bit sad.
(Cocoon boys, don't hate me for that one ... I just couldn't resist :)
Besides, a lovely demo, and a super cool engine.

Pretty nice, but a bit slow here. Would probably have run faster if it was written in javascript.
liked the first two scenes a lot :)
Those robotic vocals aren't part of the soundtrack ? Really ? I though they were, I found them in sync with the demo, and fitting well with the overall style ! Well, in that case that's a pretty kind of unlock achievement :)

fuck off.

Watched this neat demo on YOUTUBE! ;p
+ Nice visuals
+ Music
- The ball doesn't look like it's rotating
- The vocal overlays don't fit
- Too short?
Now I do understand you got permission (I'm not disputing that), and I do see that while you may have gotten permission they might not have wanted to give away a free copy of their song (in the demo release archive), but the version you used is already a mix and shorter than the full thing, so why not work out getting a non-vocalized short mix?
Overall I have to give a piggie. It's certainly a Cocoon prod, but I was left wanting a little bit more.

Didn't do anything for me.
@AMcBain : What you took for vocals is actually an audio watermark.
It says something like "Cause4Concern Recordings" and "Forthcoming label tracks" ... hence the mini-drama at the top of this page :)

Lol, I also thought they were vocals because I could not understand what it actually says :D
I would not be surprised if the Cocoon guys did not even realize it was watermarks, because it's notorious that French people suck at understanding spoken english :)

Definitely thumbworthy! The intro is very nice indeed and the rest holds class.
This one is hard to judge. Certain parts I liked way more than most stuff in previous Cocoon prods. But there are some quite boring and ugly scenes, and those label watermarks were facepalm-inducing. Still, must thumb up those cool sections, especially the neat intro and the cube-blob-thingy.
I totally agree with Hellflip and Dbug.
A bit sad about the scene drama :(
A bit sad about the scene drama :(
Cool scenes.
same as Maali (and music is very bad)
Pretty much what StingRay said. Slick rendering, but those old factory settings and that kinda music just makes me shrug. :)
Also must point out this demo contains hexagons!

Yes, I know. I was trying to be politer about it and not join the "fight".
The genre and style of the music is great, I like it ... but even if the vocals were different or not a "[audio]mark", I still don't think they would have fit.
OK I plead guilty here. I did not pay attention to the vocals. I genuinely thought it was part of the music....but once again I don really see what was so wrong. We did not steal the music from anyone.
finally an azzaro infofile again! =)
The second part was a bit boring, but the first part rocked. Music was good too.
Quote:

That you thought the "vocals" were part of the music is what was wrong :)
I feel cheated as an audience: this demo is cool! :)
Damn, fix the fuckin track and everyone will go happy then
the opening scene is awesome.
the rest is a bit disappointing, despite the gorgeous rendering/effects/graphics.
(and what T$ just said)

Thumbs up because it totally doesn't feel that I was cheated as an audience
has some nice scenes
Yeah, rendering is great. And the metaballs scene is cool.
Disagree with the title. These days, the style of this prod is pretty safe ;) Looks really wonderfull and the music (apart from all the stuff mentioned before) is great.
tFt: Left-hand work i the best kind of work.
Thumb up for the awesome intro and nice rendering.
Thumb up for the awesome intro and nice rendering.
Nice quality demo, the music is annoying but is a genuine mistake.. give them a break for fucks sake, its got fucking nice rendering.
It's dog slow on NV GTX 650, even at low res. Any chance to see an optimized release? Can't really appreciate when it under 10fps...
O_o--b
I couldn't watch it in my very old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine with its DirectX 9.0c, etc. I watched its YouTube video recording. It was OK.
+ Music
+ Design
+ Effects
- Watermarked and too compressed music
- Way too low framerate
Thumb up!

With all this bashing you get for the music with watermark, why dont you release a final version with the proper track. Or would that be admitting error? ;)
WOW!
I simply love it!
You finally added some actual demo-effects to your superb style, keep it like that and you´ll start hitting 1st places again! (instead of them damn 2nd ones all the time.)
MOAR PLZ! :D

a bit better audio quality sure wouldnt hurt, but nevertheless a rocksolid demo very much of my taste :)
pure awesomeness!!!
the 'watermark' thing is quite disturbing if you think about it :/
hope you sort it out guys! Besides from that. Surely a ruler!

For me this is an awesome production! It has all a fresh demo should have. Cemented in pure simplicity, blizztering shaders, stylish objects and organic! Got inspired enough! Good work guys, nice to see you're back!
Great shaders - great demo.
very nice.
+ one real effect
- performance (especially considering the visuals)
- camera paths & general flybyness
- audio "vocals"
- syncs

Liked it.
I somehow just find it boring.

thumb for delivering a final.
Proper soundtrack => definitely worth a thumb :)
I hate this style of music but other than that this is really cool. Models may be a little on the simple side but the way they're rendered is gorgeous.
weak thumb
The opening scene and the subliminal idea were nice.
oh fuck, lovely.
I miss the vocal! ;)
Can't not thumb this up now! Sync seems off in many parts, blob in particular. Not sure I think the added cuts in the beginning improved it. Awesome rendering quality all through!

Just watched it without music. And without doubt the visuals deserve a thumb even without music. Awesome stuff!
Even if the demo is not a javascript one (sorry :p ), I must say that it's a fucking cool engine that you're using here !!!
I just feel like you're not using it at its full power...
btw, the opening scene is impressive. I can't wait to see the next demo !! (and thanks for the final version !)

It´s nice to see a demo from bunch of old legendary sceners - what members of Cocoon definitely are. This demo is maybe not killer product polished to perfection like your other demos - Nazca, Raw Confessions or Shad 3 . But still is impressive and touching.
Engine and design of demo is slick, but whole demo lacks more content. Music is nice.
Looking forward to another cocoon demos, love your stuff since Shad 1.

Slick reflections. Would love to see more effects in the next productions.
Sync seems odd at the times. Also fades are bringing the framerate down a lot in turn breaking the demo flow.

Not enough drama.
woohoo, solid!
fine
Intro scene is very stylish, the rest is nice as well, but I can't quite get why it runs so slow even on highend hardware (GTX780)
Neat!
any kind of feelings revisited ?
Solid visuals and nice music, but it lacks soul. The whole concept and setting somehow feels...overused. Piggy.
.
love it!
Nice
solid
