Cross development tools on PC can bring CPC back to life. :)
I like your code Ramlaid!
Great job BEB and Zig Jedi too.

Thanks all !

You can use WinApe Amstrad emulator to see this demo.
http://winape.emuunlim.com/

It's qwerty keyboard :).
Just load the .dsk in emulator and :
run"-dtc

The first part brings me a deja-vu of similar parts released in several CPC demos, although this time it has better colors and some parallax moving or translucent layers of shapes. Looks preety impressive even if it's based on the same concept. I equally like the second part too. I haven't seen such a big and cool distortion effect on the CPC, on such a colorfull logo (Actually I can't curently recognize what's written on?! ;)

Oh, and it's sooo great to watch a new CPC demo again! =)

I propose that you call your next demo 'SMB' :) That would be a perfect complement to DTC !

Seriously this is very nice. I guess you used your special custom YM player to achieve the constant CPU time thingy :D

Well done, I really need to do a better plasma on the oric !
rulez added on the 2005-11-15 19:29:34 by Dbug Dbug
Yes, I use custom YM player for constant CPU time...
And the plasma is all hardware :)
Good luck for doing the same thing on Oric ! :D

Woooww!! Simply amazing ... the best CPC demo I discovered this year :o)

Impressive stuff. Especially the warped logo at the end, that's pretty much an Amiga level effect, how you did that on a 4MHz Z80 ... !

O_O it plains rock!

ramlaid: could you explain a bit your YM replay technique ? I guess it's a bit like how we play a chip in ~1 scanline on ST, and you have to 'waste' some NOPs to compensate the time gained by not updating the registers that don't need to.
rulez added on the 2005-11-17 00:21:59 by p01 p01
For YM Replay...
In fact, I use my own tool for compress (LZW algorthim) the raw data of YM. Each YM register is compressed in a stream and uncompressed at runtime... Then I just need to send data to YM chip.

After, I needed to stabilize uncompress and playing routine... Using 'waste' NOPS to compensate no updated register but also for stable uncompress routine...

For end part, I use the same technics as in MadRam's Bisbilles part in
CrocoChannel
Some nice generated code :)

Pleased that you like it :)

FINALLY managed to watch this demo. WinAPE is so crap... "insert disk" -> CRASH! "turn sound on" -> CRASH! "change any setting" -> CRASH!

I had to edit the ini file manually, and after 3 attempts to just run the emulator I had the demo running with sound. *sigh*

Anyway, the demo rules ;)

WTF!?! I did not know about this demo! Music is converted from the hidden part of our Virtual Escape! Thanks for giving the full credits and nice YM replay, one can hardly hear the difference with the original (except for the slight SID effect) ;)

How did you convert that SID voice emulation by the way?

Excellent little demo again Arkos, congrats.

rulez added on the 2006-09-23 11:39:40 by Longshot Longshot
Wow! Those are some nice looking FX alright.

Keops: the "sid"-effect heard at the start is probably a thing mad max and the guys did in some songs before the real sid-effect was invented. Two channels with a very small start-offset difference. The "sidish" thing further into the demo is a buzzereffect at high pitch. Anyway, that's what it sounds like :)

Nice one. Havent seen much on the Amstrad before....gotta check out more Amstrad stuff now :)

Evil: I was actually refering to Megatizer's SidVoice that Jedi used in Virtual Escape's tunes but I realized that only the intro tune had a SID voice, the hidden part one (used here) probably did not have any (it's too old, I can't remember for sure)

winape emulator is kinda funny... the emulated machine comes up with press f1 for basic, I press f1, then the help window comes up for the emulator... could it be a bit more user friendly than that?

seconldy how to skip the first part ? I almost thumbed it down for having only one effect.
added on the 2006-09-26 07:28:04 by Oswald Oswald
i enjoyed it alot..
rulez added on the 2006-09-26 19:00:19 by mind mind
Oswald: Press num lock and try 1 on the numeric keyboard, the F-keys is a matter of the machine keyboard not the emulator which uses the PC F-keys for the settings, options, etc and maps the numeric keyboard to the CPC keys (in the CPC keyboard, they were upon the same place). Actually I had a hard time with winape32 when I tried to use it from a laptop where the numeric keyboards where somewhere else because the stupid laptops doesn't have the usual numeric pad ;P

About the parts, this is mostly an intro not a multipart demo. You won't see many of these on the CPC yet. Unfortunatelly the coder manage us to wait for the second part. Press F6 to go to emulator settings and choose 1000% emulation speed to move fast to the last part.

Virtual Escape Hidden part music has no SID effect !
You can found SID effect on CPC in Backtro second part (hi Overflow !).

DTC is just a small contribution from Beb & I to CPC Scene :), 2 parts only ! (and please, see it on real CPC if you can !).

Thanks for "Coup de coeur" !
added on the 2006-09-30 14:50:10 by ramlaid ramlaid
Secret part? Where is it? (I don't remember the Virtual Escape music)
added on the 2006-09-30 15:27:36 by Optimus Optimus
Ramlaid: indeed, my mistake, this one was the only tune without SID effect in the Virtual Escape, it's so old I forgot about it ;)

DTC rules anyway!

Optimus: If you're talking about VE, check the comments, it's all explained, you once asked about it concerning the cylinder on the screenshot (press ESCAPE during the boot)
added on the 2006-10-02 17:45:52 by keops keops
Oh, for a moment I thought you were talking about a possible hidden part in this prod. I think I've seen the other on one VE.

p01: I think it's the strawberry monster from fruity frank. But I don't remember it was so nicely pixelated. Is the gfx from the CPC version or another platform?
added on the 2007-10-28 19:24:02 by Optimus Optimus
Indeed Optimus :) I was wondering too, sweet avatar
BB Image

I didn't knew but there's a MSX version: http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/3165
:D I was almost sure it was Fruity Frank, but it's been so many years since I played it
added on the 2007-10-28 20:16:43 by p01 p01
Indeed. I guess I couldn't remember those nice colors of the strawberry because I was playing it in a green monitor in the past.
added on the 2007-10-28 20:45:35 by Optimus Optimus
Oh the avatar is also a bit stretched on X because of the wide pixel, that's why :)
added on the 2007-10-28 20:46:34 by Optimus Optimus
Indeed it is the srawberry in the CPC version of Fruity Frank (played this one a lot on CPC!)... Stretched and all as you wrote. How funny to see a discussion about Fruity Frank's strawberry more than twenty years later!!
Impressive, I missed this demo... really nice, I must try it on real CPC ...

btw any tools on WIN32 to "write" .dsk on 3.5" disk ? ... i used dsktools on linux and an old tool on my amiga ... but I never found something working on WIN32/DOS ...
rulez added on the 2008-01-22 10:18:31 by cyb0rg cyb0rg
You can try CPCDiskXP to write the DSK image back to a 3.5" floppy.
thx Grimmy for the info.
