At first I did not believe this could be procedural. Then I saw the source-code. Hi hi, freak... Anyhow, thumbs up!

you can easily compress pictures with such big empty areas under 4k on a c64,

The 'stages' file seems to show the pic being pixelled by a graphician. I guess it's not procedural at all?
added on the 2010-08-12 12:40:53 by psonice psonice
depends on your definition of "procedural" i guess :)

So the 'procedural' part is that they save the ~1k pixels in the order they were placed by the gfx'er and plot them back at the screen? ;) Bah..

Hey guys, once again: the maker of this was mad enough to enter formulas in the source code which make all together this drawing. And yes, Oswald, it can be done easier than that way :-)
But anyway, thumbs up for the enormous effort of the guy!

Seriously, where do you find formulas in the code?

Ha ha...

So, where can I find the said code? Only code I can find is the usual stuff at $0801 (which is oddly enough code to display a regular bitmap)

I was being ironic, Britelite, 'cause I think you're right; these are not formulas, these are "pitch and put"-data... No procedural graphic at all! :-)

That's one problem with procedural compo. That one could enter with an oldschool platform without it being procedural in it's true self. But who can blame them? It's still code (with data) that shows an image.

But I liked the picture overall.

yeah, and a very great and important problem also.

nice gfx, or a picture.

Mouais.

Who said the picture should be fully procedural? The Assembly compo rules don't specify anything like that.

A thumb for the picture.

could you please explain the idea behind this pic ? =)

thumb goes for the choice of colours.

Should be fairly easy to write a cross-platform script to convert a pic into lda #$xx / sta $yyyy. It doesn't help that it looks like converted bullcrap also. Perhaps I'm missing some inside joke here?
sucks added on the 2010-08-13 18:13:11 by El Topo El Topo
no matter how it's done the picture looks like a piece of converted crap

Christ, didn't even know that the pic was up here. First of all, it's NOT procedural, it is handdrawn. (Stages here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4102466/stages.png) Compo is called EXECUTABLE GRAPHICS for a reason, says nothing about it having to be procedural. Now go have a beer or something.
Ha ha ha... End of discussion!!!

I like the pic, and as said the compo was "Executable graphics" not "Procedural graphics".

Not end of discussion. Can I see the buildup stages for the face please?

(I realize that I'm participating in some lame ass joke but what the fuck, it's on the house)

Thumb up for causing such a heated discussion. Pic is ok too.

Didn't know I had it in me to cause a hoax like this :-)
I suggets we go on and look forward to new (really) interesting releases for the good old bread box!

Hollowman, you participated here, maybe you feel like coming out with a great new product? An enormous 3D pic using several megs in Reu for example? :-)
added on the 2010-08-13 20:23:40 by w00t! w00t!
Looks converted indeed.

El topo: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4102466/stages.png that IS the buildup of the face, a quick sketch to determine lightsources, some cleanup and dithering. About an afternoon of work.
WsW, you participated here as well, go make one yourself.
added on the 2010-08-13 21:44:55 by hollowman hollowman
Why don't we all make one? Seems to me there's a lot of talented people here who rather spend their time on pouet than on their (unreleased) masterpieces.
I wish I could. :-)
