Most awesome. I have to admit I'd have liked it even more without those things in the background, but then again this was not a normal graphics compo. The atmosphere is nice, this is far from the normal coder "art" you see in these compos.

Hi. I slightly modified the exe so the camera moves a bit and frames are dumped to the disk (still within the 4k limit, like if it was a "4k exe video" compo). The result is this video. You can notice some LOD artifacts that were not visible on the still image.
Much better than the original!

Sdw, the video is generated by the same code as the still image, so each frame takes obviously as long as the image. Just measure the time yourself. Now, that number will not be representative of how far we are from realtime rendering of such terrains. You can do it today, just don't use cpu but opengl with geomimaps or clipmaps, cascaded shadow maps, some nice detail shader and some atmospheric scattering shader. Not easy, but doable.

4K exe video sounds cool too.. The precalc time could be set to 1 night or so and then the intro generates an anim. I've been thinking about using anims in 4ks before because if it is generated, it should still be cool in some way even if it is just an anim :)

Finally 4k gfx makes sense
comment to go with my cdc (given late). Iq is one of the few real CGI experts in the demoscene. Distance functions became a well known term after this 4k. This was so far ahead of the competition in its category at the time, it was ground breaking. More than that, the guys real nice and shares his ideas freely. I hope that iq continues to find the time to show the rest of us just how far we have yet to develop.

JZO: Dunno if this is the problem with this prod, but earlier versions of crinkler made exes that were not compatible with Windows 7. Download the packer (err.. linker) from www.crinkler.net and do a /recompress
