loved it, its the DIRECT opposite of this newschool "look at my rotating objects, french funk music with stolen rap samples, and no effects whatsoever yet lots of awesome fonts"-thing that seems to be so in style these days.

I usually feel a lot more fucked up when waking up at 02:20, but anyway - MORE PLEASE!

I think this is absolutely mesmerizing...a worthy successor to 828. Thank you for the trip, Visualice!
rulez added on the 2010-05-03 18:58:06 by Stebo Stebo
first off let me start with the fact that this is way better than 828, but the whole thing suffers from horrible editing. never cut when the action is actually beginning, learn to use crossfades, and generally don't kill the whole red line in the story with illogical edit points because it just takes out the whole tension from the whole prod. soundtrack was great, code is wz, graphics i enjoyed, but the direction was just underwhelming - it all seemed to me you had everything you would've needed for a great prod but failed to present it appropriately.

nice ambient trip with good models. I really liked the "outside" parts, but I have to agree with Gargaj: The transitions were very rough, throwing me back to reality. Still, thumb.

Far worse than 828, but still kickass soundtrack and some nice gfx and models. Most of the textures though are pretty bad, and the direction is not as good as you'd hope.

Good (probably the best amongst the outline batch) but not for everyone.

My opinion on the cuts is different. I believe that the unbalanced cuts *add* to the general feeling.

Love it. Fantastic sound but as couple ppl said, the transitions took me back to reality in some places. Maybe i'll watch it again at 02:20 some night when i wake up to strange scratching noises coming from weird angles (in other words, after couple days of heavy boozing)

AAAAaAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Watervortex was almost like from my dream I've seen couple of times with all the sparkling and ambience. Music is just fucking fits and models rock as hell. Also the most important thing for me in demos is new/cool effects, and this demo has plenty of them.

BEST DEMO YET ON WINDOWS!

wow. So much to see - I think. I dont know if I saw things in the mist that are there or arent there.I'll watch again with the lights out later (and the family not arguing about cats in the background). Loads of mystery. I would have liked more edgy sound but frankly it was still great. Great demo. I'm with Navis on the cuts. Best Fr demo in a long time.

Well, on second watching it actually feels better for me. It has little of the same effect on me as branch described, but not as intense as with 828.

Also, what's with people complaining about the soundtrack? Demo like this just couldn't work with a different music. Atmospheric demos require atmospheric music.

I think it was a very brave move to release a prod like this in any demo party. A party is hardly the proper platform for this kind of prod since it is _very_ slow and quite long as well. But I salute anyone who dares to do something different. This is a very moody production and has a great ambience. Like a surrealistic horror piece :).
rulez added on the 2010-05-04 08:45:38 by elfan elfan
I agree with almost all of the criticisms here, it _is_ slow, the direction is sometimes very off, and the audio perhaps would have benefited from some development. And yet... I like it. It has a few moments in there that makes it all worth it. Strangely, not at all happy with the outcome, but the little moments of magic just ... makes it rule, all the same.

Thank you visualice to remain true to your art, you can't please everybody with that choice (I am what I am talking about;) but who cares? Diversity in the demoscene is cool IMHO, and I loved this demo, the atmosphere, the refined details, the pro-code and zik that match perfectly your vision.

rulez added on the 2010-05-04 23:30:48 by puppeh puppeh
Absolute fucking masterpiece!! I'm not a big fan of slow arty demos, but this held my attention from start to finish...it's just so fascinating, deep, beautiful, eerie and atmospheric, like a journey into a dark dream scape.

Unfortunately, there were a few glaring negatives that stopped this from being perfect. For a demo with so much variation and being so long, the soundtrack really needed to do more. The general style worked well, but it didn't adapt enough to the scenes. After a while it started to sound like some irritating background noise.

I also have to agree with Gargaj on the direction. The bad transitions really broke the flow and made it feel like a series of scenes rather than a cohesive demo. One minute you feel like you're being drawn in, then suddenly it just jumps to another scene and snaps you out of the experience.

But criticisms aside, this was intense. Visualice is an incredible artist in the true sense of the word!
rulez added on the 2010-05-04 23:34:52 by Wade Wade
no beats. a welcome trip back into the mind of visualice, and a nice contrast to all the fast-paced attention-deficit demos out there. a lot of work was put into this, it's not just art for art's sake. it does follow the growing trend of blue demos, but at least it's not blue/tan. :) and yeah, transitions seem to still be his weakness, but there are many beautiful scenes to enjoy.

Thank you all for your more or less kind words. And while being on the subject, I'd like to share some of mine.
First of all, there seems to be a nasty bug that occurs on some configs (mine included) on the second last part, which causes some of it's textures to disappear and then re-appear. Hopefully Ryg will fix that :)
Also, this demo was done on Werkkzeug3, which has served my needs well for the past five years.
A big thanks to Ryg for patiently fixing bugs that occurred while the demo was progressing and also to Melwyn for being one man test-audience for the midway-draft.
Some of the transitions may seem a tad rough, but my intent was also to make cuts without sound-syncs and finding the pacing from the visuals itself.

Omg, this has soo earie atmosphere that if it catches, it can be a unique scary experience. It was so agonizing, this was the purpose of the demo being sooooo slow, I was grabbing from my chair wondering what is gonna happen next. So fucking scary with some so weird stuff that could be paranormal entities (illegal telepathy and stuff :) but it's way more. Those demos are like they come from another alternative universe where things are so different than here that you can't even imagine it! Literally caught me shaking from agony, it can't get more earie than this.

It's weird. I just love the direction and editing.

The only problem I have is the inconsistency in craftsmanship. Some scenes look stunningly detailed and perfect, but some objects (like the window, the picture frame and the clock) look like in a demo from the 90s. A slight depth of field would have done wonders to some scenes.

On the other hand: the next killer scene is always just around the corner. I am amazed how well the proportion works! Just like in 828, things look either tiny or huge and little artifacts become abstract details. I am watching and learning.

Very eerie. I love the atmosphere, the direction and the ideas in this one. However, from the look of other productions by Farbrausch .wz3 seems to be way more capable than this. The quality of the visuals was a huge disappointment for me.

Only if this creepy environment was depicted better this could have been a true masterpiece :/.

All in all, I would prefer a thumb up now, if you accept the style of the artist.

Managed to keep me watching all the way through, but not sure if I will watch it again any time soon. It has its moments; some of the parts are massive and creates a great ambient mood. At first I thought it had a storyline, then there are those scenes which look like they are from a completely different demo and has seemingly no connection that ruins it somewhat. However, it's a nice trip.

true: it's long and it's quiet.
anyways, i like it. people who hate it because it is not what they expect... oh well. the only point of criticism for me would be, that if you have tiny imperfections and show a scene with these imperfections too long your eye kinda catches them and focuses on them. otherwise it is a very nice mood-piece and the whole alien visit/lost time story in this quiet way, oh well .. i am kinda zielgruppe for that. :P

Wow, that was some interesting, abstract stuff.

Mixed thoughts about it, mostly good though.
Some fantastic individual scenes in there, but I felt the editing and general lack of cohesion between scenes let it down. (oh and I was kinda waiting for some big closing scene!)

Develop it a bit further (sequel?), add a semblance of a story in there with a focus and you could have a real winner.

Fr-055 was superior to this because of the abstract, surreal visuals, and better soundtrack. This is a much more figurative, less interesting piece.

There's a download link on the vimeo site. You need a vimeo account to access it though. It's 800+MB, so I can understand FR not wanting to host it ;)

While you're on the site, why not upload the dhs stuff and add them to the demoscene group? :)

Imo it goes nowhere. (But maybe my patience today didnt let it progress as others see it)

A couple of things were pretty pleasing, the ghost and small details like the evaporating water or frozen drops or the stereo; a couple of things were really odd, like the lighting model of many objects looking too shiny, the first lightnings looking just cheap, some transitions like the one at the end of the tunnel...

And overall, this is really slow, which wouldn't have been a problem if I were caught in the trip, but I wasn't.

Insanely good soundtrack and it works so well together with the visual atmosphere. For me, the only thing that detracts from the immersive experience is the realistic 3d look, which at times look very dated. But whatever. Thumbs up!
rulez added on the 2011-08-03 01:50:35 by xeche xeche
Some of the scenes are awesome and look great, the others drawn-out and dated, with highly questionable cuts. I wouldn't have paid attention to the incoherence, but the demo is so long I just can't help dwelling on it while some camera slowly pans around/zooms into another brooding abstract "something" from the darkest corners of Visualice's mind. :)

Really nice dark ambient on the soundtrack, though.

This is by far one of the best demos at showing what's not there to be seen. A fantastic ride through one's own imagination. Never seen demos do this quite this well before. I like the fact that what seems to be "the red line" is something that can't be made out. The soundtrack fits the scenes perfectly and vice versa. You, good men, have really huge balls - touching or not ;-) This was bound to be a crowd-splitter. I'm with the yay-part of the crowd!

Hmm...the Visuals are good, but the vibrating noises in the ambient "music" makes me remember old attempts on this on the amiga...in a bad way....
added on the 2011-11-17 00:53:34 by Exin Exin
it would have been a great ambient-demo hadn't it been for some of the scenes. some parts have impressive 3d-content and textural work, but many of the scenes just doesnt seem to fit into the same style. it got boring at times, and at the same time the ambient-music got boring because of that. and the 02:20 theme didnt work for me. it would have been better if it actually showed the real time-span between the duration. so because of the slowness and the lack of same quality in many scenes its only a piggy from me. nevertheless the graphics work put into the scenes with quality is impressive.

hi all. i come back to the scene since 2009. just to exchange points of view, to see wonderful products and this is a f****g one ! apart some demos from people i follow, no doubt this kind of show between dream and nightmare done me excellent emotions. yes emotions. kind of demos i particularly like, change considerably of bass-bass dubstep which give less sens in my eyes. this demo is a good research. something over the "simple" fact of collecting visuals and putting together. this is art. kind of voluptuous travel i particularly like and would like to watch more often ! so thanx a lot farbraush and pleaz continue doing as this :)

I hate to dump on fellow sceners - but this is a collection of individually awesome scenes that aren't the right length, aren't in the right order, and weren't put in any sort of context.

This is why movies are attributed to directors. A strong director's edit is all this prod needs to become great.
