massive!
what everyone else will say
Car part was super cool. Robots were not. Last part was WTF, well ok.
Thumbs up for the car part.
Thumbs up for the car part.
nice
/me agrees that the opening part was the most awesome. Extra bonus for agressive dnb :)
what can i say? S I M P L Y M I N D B L O W I N G
some of the best design in a demo ever.
some of the worst design in a demo ever.
some of the worst design in a demo ever.
Owned everything else.
Last part was weird. As if the leftover fluid sim did not fit anywhere, and had to be put there. Cool fluid sim, but weird.

The end part kind of ruined the magic of the beginning, but still fucking ace.
Killing! What else should we say?...
Only the last scene is just confusing because of it's emptiness. It looks like credits/titles/sometext scrolling missed there.

I really enjoyed the car part, but after that it was just... skills I guess.
This was so fucking massive up until that final part which felt totally out of place. Still damn awesome overall.
A lot of people are going to argue about this. It was great, it had style, and those fluid effects at the end were utterly superb.
the transformer thing I think was not that nice but still one of the best releases at asm
FUCK YEAH! :D
Always the same problem with Fairlight demos. They always rules but almost always are not my cup of tea. Thumbs up anyway.
Last part of the demo was totally unnecessary btw.

The fast and the furious meets transformers
keep it up making releases like this daddy smash!

awesome graphics, good effects, neato soundtrack. end bit seemed a bit disconnected from the rest and oh, i want a car like that without any under- and oversteer ;)
Great!!!!
The end part was weak, up until then it was awesome, especially the robots.
...
the part of the car was nice (although I missed some sound effects). Robots were not that nice. Anyway.... real tehcniques!
I kinda got bored with the robot bombing stuff. Some good effects near the end. Not my favorite from the compo.
The car part is very cool. I'm not too fond of the music though. I love the complete change of style (including the music), that was quite unexpected. :)
Very nice. I like the 3d effect with rectangles very much.
Cool robot fights.
I must rewatch this at least once again before doing my final praisings. For now I'll stay with "misters: your release rocked my turtle park!"
This was just amazing! I totally loved the robots and specially the transformation. And the music is pretty good too. =)
knight rider!!!!11
Massive demo! Completely kills my pc (only watchable in 640x480) but you can clearly see where all the hardware power went... :-)
Some very good design touches, great effects, graphics, music...you name it.
Only downside: the demo goes from "unbelievable" (car scenes) to "very good" (fluid/smoke simulation) and not the other way round.

The second part is... humm... weird... but the first part... !#@#!#@§@!"@##
Didn't like the gameish parts (looked good though) but everything else rocked quite a bit.
woohoo!!1
I don't get what's so weak about the end...? Manwe: there were credits at the end, they fucked up on my machine though. Whole thing is pretty demanding.
flawless victory.
(and btw, i LIKED the end part - nothing wrong with an epilogue)

FAT visuals with neat music and kickass design, postprocess effects. In-your-face massive demo.
please cut-out that final fluid scene, it ruins overall energy feeling of this demo...
My winner of ASM 09 demo compo, for sure

Some very nice parts in there, but the music ruined the experience completely for me. Piggy minus.
Fookin' great, totally rapes my lappy, but well worth it!
There are things about this demo that are awesome, such as the epic 3d effects and some of 2d design work, but they're kind of ruined at times by crazy camera movements and too much post processing. I also felt the untextured monochrome scheme looked really bad at times.
Sorry to say I hated the music too. I've heard those bass/drum riffs too many times now, or at least something very similar.
The good outweighs the bad, but I still prefer previous demos from this team.

hot! end also messed up on my machine... got back screen and blinking underscore :O
it is a nice demo with some smart ideas behind it. but I still find these kind of demos a little bit game/movie trailerish.
Instant classic
Could be so much better if it ended after the robotfight. Everything after that was good but didn’t fit with the rest of the style.
The opening is just amazing ...
This rocks hard !

Awesome !
I don't like the music at the first part and visual at the second part but this is very nice anyway !

there's no way i can thumb this down but at the end of the day i don't really like it..
Last part was forgettable, the robot part was too long imho.
))
Flat out!
slick, nice work indeed.
I was really drawn into this demo at the screen showing the wave of arrows. From there on it was a great ride, thanks alot :)
Designwise, I never thought they would dare to try something as the middle part with the field of boxes -- but what a cool part it turned out to be! The shading made it a really good and surprising turn. I'm also fond of the fact that they put in some l337 effects in the end -- some say they do not belong there, but I choose to interprete them as saying "if you didnt notice the effects in the first part, here are some you just can't miss" :)

Great, and yes: those fluid effects at the end were utterly superb. And the rest too.
Also, a bit Rupture'ish, which is good :)
Also, a bit Rupture'ish, which is good :)
exactly what hyde said. the beginning had loads of effects in context and the last part was just effects for the sake of effects. anyway, it was all great!
Details, details, details.
Just for info: Needs D3DX9_40.dll.
Cool
Wow
i wanted to watch this again immediately after it was played in the compo. great stuff
Kewl car, spider, robot. Quite nice voxel-part. But final parts - 2 fps, wtf? My video-card is broken? or what?
geilomat
Killer demo of the year 2009! Bo-Bo-Bo-BOMBASTIC!
I really love the car scene and the robot scene, they have a really thrilling drive and punch to them. The soundtrack also rocks in those parts. But after the black screen in the middle the end parts feel like a completely different demo. Slow-paced and very long-winded. Although the effects are super-cool code wise, I think the total shift in mood an pace ruins the overall experience. Still a thumb up for the music, the code and the thrill.
The chiptune in the end was a total WTF moment for me but otherwise this demo rules a lot!
Looks pretty fucking sweet. The music is ok, except for the chiptune at the end (wtf?).
a machinima-like, different approach at demo coding. I certainly found this utmost cool on the big screen, and as I also mentioned at the compo studio, this "catered for gamers" look'n'feel isn't something bad. I think it added some color to the traditional demo concept. awesome.
eh
what superplek[tpbps] said.
this prod (o) RULEZ! i liked the last parts, not because they didn't fit the rest, but because they looked cool. liquid-effects was stylish with physics or whatever. if they are baked then ok. i dont wanna know. first parts explains for themselves how cool they are.
Man! That was one hell of a cool demo. I've dreamed about making a car scene for some time, but since I can only create a sphere in Lightwave before I give up it somehow just didn't happen. Also transformers is just about the coolest concept ever.. Also the cursel of physics confined inside a cube seems to be broken big time in this prod!
I also love the chiptune demoscene self-reference at the end. These arpeggios always give me the happy chills :)
Enemy pixel!

some parts were really good, but some parts didnt at all for me.
i'd be really surprised if this doesnt win
i'd be really surprised if this doesnt win
The car part and the field of boxes part were stunning, brilliant. The rest were ok.
this looked like an excellent wild demos a few years ago. however, back then i was also bored by long fight scenes without any action. the last two minutes doesnt really fit the first part of the demo.
i'm sure this will win asm
i'm sure this will win asm
Massive.
This was, pardon the pun, smashing! It takes balls to design something so deliriously wicked, yet consistent at the same time. I found the music to be way too generic (and the d'n'b-part was downright boring in places), but the pacing of the visuals made up for it (the part when the spider is first introduced is awesome). The scene where they are in the "desert" (I won't call it a fight-scene, because that sort of requires both parties to be fighting, instead of one just dancing around :) was pretty, but unfortunately felt completely undirected, compared to the first part. The effects epilogue was completely awesome in every way.
Great visuals and physics but the rest of it is so extremely boring - piggy
awesome visuals, but some parts didnt at all for me
nice prod. gotta kkapture and watch smooth, only got like 5 fps here..

I guess Smash&co went of the fucking internet and challenged andromeda :)
Now what will they do in return? :)
Now what will they do in return? :)
really, really nice!
Usual top quality from the leading design boys in the scene.. The starting sequences with the car and the parts breaking off was great and reminded me of many offline renders I have seen, but this slickness has never been seen in real-time before. Very complete and to the point, winner for sure!
yeah!
A rare time when Fairlight PC makes an enjoyable demo.
I thumb up this demo because the effort that took.
Again, the direction is not good: lots of parts without connection (or at least easy to find connection), medium music and strange cameras. Fails in the detail, and it seems that they try to compensate this lack of detail with fast camera movements instead of using fast camera movements to drive the action.
And the car moves like a brick... this was like a 3DS player with unconnected smoke effects at the end for me
promises, but not delivers.... aaarrrghh!!!
As good points, the first scene is glorious, the car transformation a very good movement (although not very well performed) and the general appearance superb.

cheesy
I appreciate the technical effort, but I really don't like it (for most of the reasons other wrote before).
too much hard (and well-executed) work in there to give it anything but a rulez, but...
space intro scene with weird spaceship flying towards earth?
fast shiny car racing through a scene that's falling to pieces as it goes along?
then transformers! and some alien spider robot thingy with glowing eyes! and kung fu with rockets and explosions!
and then there's these two effects you just had to put in there that apparently didn't fit anywhere else (though reading the above summary, why would you think that?).
really... are you serious about this? or did you just stumble into a sale at cliché mart?

Shitty music. SHITTY SHITTY music.
Kicked it kingsize but in the end it threw c64 chocolate balls in my face. Anyway its a KILLER. :)
This made me wanna buy an Audi and I'm not sure is that a good or a bad thing for a demo... but I really liked the endpart.
VIDEO for download (106 mb).
Really not my style of a demo at all, but very good nonetheless.
the thumb is only for the fact that you've done character animation that you presumably animated yourselves instead of grabbing stock animations from the interweb like you've done before. the character model is pretty low quality though and the rest was ok i guess, some math things are nice.
I hate you. <3
First part - car and battle with spider - awfull, music terrible.
Second part with chiptune really nice!
Overall 4/10

This needs to be re-edited. Rarely have I seen such a weird mix of awesome crowd-pleaser stuff and bland placeholder parts. :/
Looked awesome on big screen. Crowd pleasing, yes. But in a good way.
car-part was really awsome! the arrowscene blew me away! but what's up with breakdancing robots?

homeworld?
need for speed?
transformers?
strider from half-life?
here I fixed it for you.
kewl!
a transforming car and a huge robot spider having a b-boy battle. just fucking epic.
Love the visuals, music is not good enough. Still, the fluid and smoke towards the end is a thumb alone.
I haven't seen this demo yet but the screenshot looks cool!
Excellent demo... but for me not No1.
Kinda a cross between NFS and Transformers :P...

beautiful.
Ben merde alors ! c'est du beau !
there might be some minor things to bitch about but the rest more than makes up for it. might be the best demo this year for me.
a good one, propably a bit unfinished but kicks ass.
good demo but lack of polishing en coherency between scene. Thumbs up for the character animation a discipline that miss too much in the scene
exellent stuff
Number one from this year I think. Music could be a bit better and some more finishing could be done but hell it was awesome from bigscreen !
I don't like the car, i don't like the transformers, i don't like the style change in the end part, i don't like anything at all... Sorry.
Quite good demo!
Runs a bit slowly though on an nvidia geforce 9600GT with 512 MB of memory and an Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4. GHz.
Every part seemed to be fitting together though, even the most irrelevant ones.
Thumb up for the robot-spider fight scene.

I kind of wondered why it looked better on the stream than on my pc at home, and then I realized: The encoding got rid of most of the totally overused and ugly (as in breaking the color scheme) RGB distortion glitchery.
Apart from that: What a ride. And very nice to see less pretentious street "art" and a bit more demo style. That ending was neither out of place nor too long IMHO.
In the end, congrats for pwnzing everyone else once again. :)

well, no, I still don't like 3d animations, even when they have random really cool effects as backdrops..
congratulations for a well deserved victory.
This is an entertaining demo with the highest quality of graphics and music. First part looked very polished, but I'm with those who didn't like so much the linking of the first and second part (which I thought was a bit out of place. But then again it might grow on me eventually).

really cool. especially the opening part :D
controversial.
a gamer demo?
stuff by people working on animation?
It's balanced, it surprises the viewer with all the desirable good elements in a demo. wow-factor 3d, kinematics, movie effects...and then when a classic scener maybe disapointed,..BAM! stunning 2d-3d- layered effects with newschool hardware.

The opening scene (earth) reminded me of codename chinadoll so i was kinda baffled by what followed.
Really cool stuff in there, and lots and lots of it. The whole thing felt more like a showreel of really awesome different things than a demo. Dunno if that was the intention or not.

Love the direction in the first part. The second part with all the smokestuff and liquids this demo could be without (for once?) but it's really well executed as well.
Nice gametrailer for EA`s upcoming
Need for Speed: Frameranger ;O)
Sorry, bad joke...but an awesome demo!
I just missed some motorsounds, with these the first part would have been more intensive.
The spiderbot scared me, I hate spiders, but looks great nevertheless.^^
I liked the second part very much too, with its oldschool future composer intro sound.^^
Everything, design, gfx, fx, msx is great here so:
A thump-up is my only possible choice.

too good
watch this demo everyday
last part <3
Great looking and entertaining stuff as expected from the guys involved. Seemed unfinished at places, which is a shame, as I've learned to not be holding my breath on a final version ;)
It's too much of a game-trailer rather than a demo, but people obviously invested a lot of work and effort into this. I like it.
very slow on my PC (phenom quad, GTX9800+)... nice animation and effects, but it bored me very much
What uncle-x said.
looked nice but the soundtrack is definitely the best part of this prod.
It's got robots!
No rainbow, no harmony! Please in the next demo make a rainbow! :)
Awesome intro + car scene (I don't really like the car lights though) + spider introduction + character animations + 'lego effects' + sublime credits effects + second part soundtrack !!
The rest is excellent too (minus the flaws that have already been noticed).
The more I watch it, the more I appreciate it.
This prod f* rulez.

I really hated the music, the graphics were awesome, yet the first part was not really my style. As the music was really a major issue for me, a piggy.
Btw, the "transforming-sounds" remind me of similar sound effects in a scene in "don quijote v20" by frogwize (excellent classic). Is this a deliberate homage or just coincidence?
Nice but the music wasn't to my liking. Several ATI issues like the red liquid around the ball at the end was just a bunch of blocks.
well deserved victory
etalon
I love it, very well designed in every aspect.
One drawback is the "liquid is cubes" issue with ATI 4870 here.

was awesome up to the transformer fighting scene.
fluid scene is sweet but totally out of place, should had made another demo about it imho.
fluid scene is sweet but totally out of place, should had made another demo about it imho.
The first robot fight is the biggest crowdpleaser ever seen at ASM since legomen, the real fun for me began in the second part.
Ah, and thumb of course.
actually, thinking more about it the demo is in the same league/class as "into the pink" by plastic. I'm talking about the general feeling, composition and content.
Take that as a compliment !
Take that as a compliment !
I actually think the fluid scenes fit there perfectly. First there are "basic" 3d fly-by scenes and then out of nowhere some sweet fluid effects :)
So that transformer-dude is practicing tai chi or what?
Damn, I need to go and get me some new hardware!
Quote:
So that transformer-dude is practicing tai chi or what?
For some reason it's one of the reasons why I like the robot sequence so much, the robot is busy doing a tai chi demonstration while attacking a giant robot spider on some DnB sound, it really has a strong wtf effect :)
also where are the missiles coming from, and on who's side are they anyway
Totally disassembled Assembly!
soundtrack please
oh yeah... i do hope you'll make the "growing smoke things" to look more like explosions in a final :)
lots of fx are missing on Windows Vista 64 and ATI Radeon HD 4800. For example the "blood" are only big pixels and there is no plasma at the end. But really nice soundtrack.
awesome!
I am speechless. The scene where the spider is introduced is too amazing and shows how the rest of the first part should have been.
I personally like the fx-part alot.
I personally like the fx-part alot.
In a perfect world, pixtur would direct fairlight demos.
for some reason i don't really like it
keops: that scene actually reminded me a bit of the end of Zoolander... "they're breakdance fighting!" :)
not my cup of tea
car commercial
Why do you have all those cool fluids in the end and don't use them as smoke in the fight scene, or make the car step on some water?
Great prod. Quite exotic. Would have liked to watch it on the Assembly screen real time. Although the second part (from the fight on) starts with grey/orange colours included in the former to make the transition easier, it is not as tasty as the former part, however.
Great beginning, and I loved the end (well, up until it ended, who likes it when a good thing ends?). Not sure about the battle part. Only watched the capture so far though, I'll see if this computer will run it realtime tomorrow perhaps.
Anyway, I saw it, and it worked.
Anyway, I saw it, and it worked.
Pros:
very good prod from beginning to end
nice fluid fx!
Cons:
in desperate need of optimization: battle scene rarely above 20fps at 1280x800 on q9300+gtx280
supports theory that chromatic abberation is the most pointless over used effect (so 2008)

Thumbs up from me for the car part and the low-res projection in the middle. And the fluid sim even if it couldn't be integrated properly. Looks like it deserved to win.
But why do I get the feeling it's essentially Media Error 2.0?

@smash: I noticed :)
Will you do the commentary? ;)
Will you do the commentary? ;)
I am not smart enough to come up with a convincing reason why this isn't impressive as all hell. I felt like the quality of the scenes was just amazing, in the literal sense. I just sat there like an amazed fool, gawking.
There are some weak moments, but also very stunning parts. This one really shows talent, but as a wholeness it is not a demo I am eager to watch many times (mainly due to the lack of consistency).
Loved the last part even more than the first one... Great stuff!!
Despite the obvious crowd-pleaser approach, rules :)
Loved the first part even more than the last one... Great stuff!!
sexy
Did not transform me. Techy, trendy (I have seen too many car commercials already ;), sometimes really off colours, I was hoping more inspiration. Ending was ok.
you totally know how to make massive demos, attitudewise.
I'm sure it ruled much more on the big-screen than on my laptop. Real action in the first part, a well-done object show with nice lighting and stuff. But I'm more into abstract effects so I enjoyed the second part a bit more. The production was not very coherent between the two parts but it was nothing that I was really bothered by. The music made it work somehow :). A nice production, for sure.
Dont get why people didnt like the 2nd half/ending(or what you might call it) For me it saved the demo. Had it only been the Car and Robot stuff, it would have been a real downer for me.
The 3D scenes seemed to run rather slow though.
But of course, the demo is pure awesomeness.

Nice demo and very clear winner.
Des to the top !
Great graphics, great soundtrack, great code.... uhm.... just what to expect from a fairlight&co demo.
3 groups and this came out. Well, I have to say I expected more. Eventhough it's a well polished production in its own class and style, something was missing. The first part felt like a can opener for the second part, that really blew Cracker Jack out of the box. However, great music, great design and code! Big respect to you guys, that's no question about it! Just wanted a bit more, you know ;)
Nice, some of the best design and some of boring design ever. Piggie for sitting on it for almost 2 years and after that, I'd imagine you'd make it sync better and add some stuff.. (and for trying to get 4 different musicians to do tune, then not saying anything about it to the ppl... :P )
Definitely the best demo of Asm'09.
ps. bad flares :D

the chiptunepart is ok. the rest is.. well.. not mindblowing imho
Damn it, I can't thumb this down too... but the dnb-ish soundtrack killed a bit of the fun.
Anyway, some very nice scenes.
Anyway, some very nice scenes.
I might be out of chorus, but I find this confusing...
great everything, tech, music, 3d, gfx, love the style fairlight always bring, watched this about 3 or 4 times already now :)
bonus question: is der piipo now calling himself der eeroy or what's this all about?
instant thumb up
Strange collection of sutff that seem just tacked after each other but still it has a very pleasant quality to it. Fairlight's use of logo design and almost ethereal visuals always bring it back to the positive level of demo enjoyment :)
I mostly enjoy the 2nd part.. 1st one is ok.
a bit disappointing for me... CNCD is a myth group for me and it's clear that maybe this is not a bad demo, but it isn't a demo that could have the name of cncd inside of it...
After all the praising from the weekend, this disappointed me. The last part is nice, but I can't really say that the demo impressed me.
I liked the robot-part better than the car-part, unlike most sceners who commented here before me. It feels like a solid prod and I was really wondering during the stream : could it be possible that after this one we get yet another demo?
cheesy
:)
hey the 'cheesy' guy is back
not cheesy at all... great demo guys =)
didn't enjoy the demo !
watched it on my PC Windows XP, HD4850 GS C2Duo 2,7Ghz and enough memory and i have lot of glitches and slowdown , watched it again on capped TV
and i'm disapointed :(

awesomeness! but a tiny tiny bit unpolished (f.e. jerky car motion and overall too long)..
what TFT said.
They can has won. Give moneys.
I didn't really like any of the opening stuff except for the very first scene. But then it suddenly got cool with the block-heightmap thing and the fluids. So, I might as well 'rulez' it. I mean, why not? WHY NOT?
cool ! :)
after 3 years, my 8800gts g80 is finally showing its age here. still nice at 1024x768 though. visuals seemed to be a bit strange at times with a raw, sketchy and empty feeling to'em. still a worthy winner in comparison.
agree with fiver2 wholeheartedly.
nice!
First part was to win the freakin' compo, hence the gamer content.
Second part was to give sceners their effect screens to calm 'em down ;) ... worked, hence the thumb up.
...and ribbons live 4evar

This has some crazy ass gfx/3d/effect shit
Watched it 3 times, and I'm not a fan.
such a show 8)
Awesome graphics, character animation was cool :)
Astonishing prod !!! but ... there is some kind of "déjà-vu-in-another-fairlight-prod" flavor that leaves me wondering
OMFG, I agree with Dixan!!!
Music rocks hard...
My quadcore Q7700 and Geforce 8800GT lie in tatters on the floor. Looking forward to the arrogance of "Well, if you must use a 2 year old graphics card!"... but my goodness, what an excellent production!
Don't like the cars/transformers theme, the music is too hardcore for me, very slow here (8600Gm) and well, i don't see really where is the demo feeling , looks more like a trailer for a movie...
Some scenes were a bit too long but this was something I wasn't expecting. Nice.
not fan of the style but you've got to admit this really has insane 3d scenes.
First "half" with the car and robots seemed more like a demo of a game engine or trailer for japanese action flick, not bad and somewhat impressive for what 3D "animations" are worth. Latter part was more enjoyable to me, not because of its increased demoish-ness but rather the fact that it didn't look so much like pre-directed animation. I know, it's silly, but just another opinion. :D Bonus points for another Orange demo with robots.
great one! really great
It's funny how the bar in the comments of Fairlight-demos is five times as high as with regular demos. But yeah, of course this is a consequence of your own quality. But Frameranger is an impressive piece of work indeed. For 7 minutes, you manage to entertain very well. The opening is Anthonishly nice, and the car scene is awesome, could come straight out of a game. The robot fight scene is okay, despite some movements of the robot being a bit repetitive. Like Gloom said, it looks a bit like dancing. The camera cuts are nice though, but my final part, being an old Amiga nut is the nice effect stuff at the end. The sphere that cracks, with fluids all over the place, and the smoke at the end, while being improved effects from previous demos, they manage to impress bigtime nevertheless. I have to be honest now, that i didn't like the soundtrack at all, but I simply hate d'n'b, so don't take it personal, lads. :-) Overall impressive stuff yet again. My respect is yours.
I can't thumb down because there are a lot of really good things in this, but imho the entire robot fight sequence could've been cut, and about 80% of the car chase sequence as well. Er... also, not really a big fan of the fluid dynamics stuff - cool once, yeah, but it was drawn out way too long. If the demo had been 3-4 minutes long instead of 7, would've been super. All just my humble opinion of course, I don't doubt the skills ^_^
 don't be such a asd0978jhd
Just like @lx, though it's technically impressive, I didn't feel like watching a demo when watching Frameranger...
In fact I only liked the tune in the second part...
So for me it's neither a thumb up or down...

always good to see once again CNCD and destop in what he do best: designing the best code he can get to the wow effect. it does feel at moments as a mashup (i was also having the codename chinadoll feel in the beginning, especially when i first saw it live on asm stream), but the demo is actually not that much different than most of destop/cncd stuff which usually is a mashup of stand-out effects and graphics, however smartly connected to a flow using music and visuals as a connection and storytelling: one may say - the essence of demo. remember killer, closer, deep the psylocycin mix, inside... i reckon this kind of feel to their new cncd/flt/orange stuff, and in some way they are getting at it... nonstop ibiza experience, media error and frameranger are at least some to mention in the last decade that falls in imho...
i would say, whoever runs the show there, being it single guy or a crew, know exactly what he is doing, even when he dont :)
this one falls into those that actually have a stronger storytelling line than usual, something i am not being able to write down in words, but there it is anyway ;) reminds me how i felt when i watched the greatest demos since the beginning...
after the carchase scene, which looks amazing and make you wish those kind of games really exist, the transformation to robot and fight with the spider-boss reminds a bit of transformers but then again, all the parts used in demo are mostly seen somewhere but here they are used otherwise, that's the whole magic.
even the last part, which i could call 'nostalgic' is not falling out of 'concept', using a remade chip vibe, 3d-pixel effects, blobs and even some shadebobs of a kind, it ends in nice and optimistic atmosphere, wrapping up the whole thing in demoscene festivity, as a powerfull showoff that stands out high among todays collaboration of art and technology, further than games are providing, or at least in quite different context.
it's quite important to mention other collaborates to this project, fairlight and orange, who are also a demoscene veterans, being through quite some time on the scene, and still plundering :) to have this kind of dream team of designers, coders and artists making a ASM demo may be compared to many great demoscene dream teams that were assembled on scene history over big productions.
i may have gone too far in hailing this one, and someone will surely point a finger in me thinking i am sucking up, but it cant be further than truth. i do follow the work of CNCD from the beginning, being a scener from early 90s, and after seeing this demo, i just cant hold of my huge respects for what they do and what they did and what they will still do.
so, think what you want about me, but always remember that those guys are the ones that had a major influence in the scene for over 15 years - and for me, seeing them still around, coming out with fresh stuff and winning the parties and hearts of both sceners and gamers, bring me back to the day, where we had copyparties where both sceners and gamers would enjoy it, without too much officiality, competitions, organisation and stuff...
oh well, i've gone too far, but i hope someone will find the point somewhere in there...
at the, keep up the good work ppl,
have a beer on me,
and see you around...

I'm pretty sure everything's already said, so I'll just say: Great!
Lovely. Got me shouting out loud when I saw it on the big screen.
The demo starts after the game trailer which collects the my thumb.
blergh, meant to say that the demo which...
Great! Direction was really good imho.
Kickass!
Good. Didn't like the transformer part much though.
Wow! The 8bit music part is absolutely mindblowing! It gives me the heebie-jeebies all time long.
Great design, visuals, direction. I would have wished for extensive sound effects during the carchase/transformer part, though.
+ good overall experience
+ uniform and consistent
- too slow in a 8800gtx with a qx6700
- too much postprocess noise
- the isosurface part is pointless

it's a good thing when demos finally can compete with / outshine game tech again..
(well, ok, smash works in the industry, so, um, we others are not quite there yet :-)

oh, and btw. is this the first production with anthony in ages?
Slow engine, first scene was cool and I enjoyed ending the most.
jar_, what are you on about? smash is a milkman.
farbrausch staff 0wnz a game company in germany
Rules of course .
So millions light years aheads from other demos.
I have mixed reaction to this :
1) Ok ... I can t not compete with this let s quit demos.
2 ) Next year I will kick your ass !( And in order to do so I d better start right now ...).
Respects.

Hold on. I saw a car!
coma: the rules of this thread says that you cannot thumb down and be sarcastic at the same time. You have to accompany your acid with a thumb pointing in the upward direction. This will show that you somehow acknowledge the effort (in a way, sortof) but you expected more. Since, afterall, these guys havent released often enough and you've been waiting too long for something that would blow your mind. Anything, really, as long as it's not technical, like 3d fluids or any non-fake isosurface with interreflections in realtime. FFS, who wants that?
Btw, I think the starting scene with the car being changed by some growing geometry things is very similar to a car advertisement I think I have seen once.
This made me happy today
On the fence. First part is nice, but very much like a wild demo. After that the first part it loses all sense of direction.
what nytrik said
Wow!
Fantastic! Great music
Fighting robots!
car part and fluid physics simulation rulz
...nice C64-touched Music at the end ;) Like it!
Beginning was too long. :( Soso demo. Nice tune.

GAMER DEMO!! GAMER DEMO!!! oh shut up decipher.. (although that was funny)., well, I enjoyed it anyway.
As for the comments about the second half. All demos need an effect bit, and it was an awesome effect (although I did see the same sort of lighting in a 64k at the same party). The plasma was excellent, and probably took a lot of headfuck maths. Well done lads.
Plus, the gamers liked it ;-)

i should add to that. The car looked awesome. The lighting and the lens flare around the headlights were an effect in itself. An effect doesn't have to look like an effect to be good.
stylish starforce demo. love this
great rendering of great artwork
but i dont like it. i think its stupid.
but i dont like it. i think its stupid.
was great!
what's keeps this from being perfect:
-several hickups from one scene to the next
-too much unjustified screen distortion+color separation
I don't get much of the comments about game/movie feeling, is it that you can't see polygons anymore or that the modeling, shading, lighting, cameras just looks professional quality?
thumbs up for, once again, something a bit different from the other demos :)

what keops said about tai chi performing transformers
A big shit, ive stopped it after 30 seconds :(
First half is a bit slow performing, and frankly I don't think it compares well to modern videogame production values. Second half had cool music and interesting visuals. Piggy.
The second part really saved this one.. first part felt more like an animation.
I just want to point out again what a thing of beauty this is. Especially the fluid dynamics which are something I have never seen done so well before.
It's easy to say the first part is influenced by video games because it has cars, space ships, robots and fighter planes but none of those things are specific to video games, and all of those things are better than spikeballs, lightballs, cubes made of other cubes, trees, grimy mutants and other bullshit objects that we've seen a thousand times in recent years.
The homage to oldschool style by having a two part demo with a story driven first part and a handful of beautiful effects in a second part is obviously lost on a lot of people. Maybe everyone would be happier if they'd had to insert disk 2 after the robot battle ended.
The robot part did fall a little flat on me because it reminds me of a Peugeot advert from a year or two ago where the car turns into a dancing robot, and that shit was weak.

yes. good.
Awesome !
Overall a kickass prod.
The intro music is heavenly.

Shit that owns, end of story!
Nice!
Transformers are totally homo. The effect with the ball and red fluid was cool but went on for waay too long. The only parts I liked were the car at the beginning and the smoke around the text at the end.
A thumb, no question at all :)
Would have loved real car physics and finger joints on the robot, but that's nitpicking. This looks very good, even with the standard grey+random color design. I liked the um growing arches cracking up the ground part.

A lot of top notch coder p0rn.
What can you say? It simply rules!
thumb up for the effort, thimb down for axing the possibility of skipping two boring parts - opening and car vs robot. if you like spiders, try black maiden's 'interceptor' - that's amazing. last part here being a cheesy old times reminder saves the demo. maybe next time.
Thumb for chiptune and cube-field
Well, some good things here but not enough to be a demo that rules the world :-). Music is average (so repetitive and not inspirated for a penny), some parts are too long, the robots fighting part is a little bit confuzed and too shacky.
On the other hand, car and robots design is great !

i am having some emotional difficulties with this production, but of course it is mindblowingly good.
there is a very special atmosphere in this. tension already builds up during the title screen. the liquid in the exploding ball is just grandiose. i love the music in that part.
as this has a cinematic feel to it - which is good of course -, it opens itself for criticism within another category.
judging the demo from a cinematographic point of view, there is some room for improvement. i feel that while direction is good, it is not perfect (camera angels, flow of events etc).

yeah no problemo ... smoke ..
fart?
gfx.
Soundtrack, pretty please? End tune is so cool!
best in the compo
;)
Well done!
Nice one too bad the wine version runs bad on Linux...
WOW . damn BIG demo
On first watch, the opening sequence blew me away, but... the autobot/spider breakdancing completely ruined the feeling (WTF?!)... even the killer effects in the end felt out of place after that.
After watching it several time, it somehow grew over me... that's just a fucking ace demo! (despite I still don't like that autobot stuff very much :)

Slow as hell.

How about askin pantaloon howto optimize the code?

very pro! not my type of demo but still impressive.
Neat!
The first scene with the car, looks like a mix between Debris and Tobin's verbal clip. (which are good references)
... and the the scene with blood ball o_O Wow!

me like it.
First part too boring - second part is good.
love the intro and the music, transformers stuff isn't mine
Amazing show in first part and lovely fx in second, smoke is sweet
MAN that was some awesome drum and bass
the rest of the demo too, of course, but the first part of the soundtrack, wtf

i thought this was just plain ossom. the coderporn at the end is not what turns me on, but clearly the opinions differ here. i loved loved loved the buildup until the effect show part.
watched it on my bro´s box in real time. ;)
Massive!
Massive!
Great music perfectly fits awesome demo.
Produced by Michael Bay! :)
good
The "paintball" and smoke are AMAZING!
Holy cow!
amazing!
I finally got access to hardware fast enough to watch this realtime (just about :).
The liquids scene though.. i had it rendered with a 3d pixelated blocky look. It was cool actually, but I guess it's not supposed to look like that?

I think that's what happens when you watch it on ATI hardware.
Yeah, ATI video card. That'll be it then.
I would, but this is temporary hardware. The blocky liquid looks like an effect btw - I wouldn't have known if I'd not seen the video first :)
damn what a fucking good demo. i can watch this again and again and again and again and again and then once again
I felt exactly the same about Matt Current - Lateral Surface Of Discord since the day I first saw/heard it.
(yea, yea, frameranger is certainly a good demo, aswell ;))

Nice!! Blocky liquid looked swell!
great sound, love the liquids, rocks
so full of magic
hmmm. Technically, surely good. But the final result, I really don't like it. Hence piggy.
Pretty cool effects... even if the earth does spin the wrong way :P
rewatched in realtime
the "voxel" fighters rule! pure style.
<3 the second part!

some of you guys totally seem to fail at grasping how the second part of the demo connects to the first part.
the demo has a deeper meaning.
ask me if you want any hints. :]

First part was enjoyable thanks to the soundtrack beat, but it looks like a Wild Demo... Style and design is too clean for my taste, and the second part was a great idea but the music hurt my ears...
thumb for sure!
BUT: I think frl relies a little to much on vector overlays and stylish icons (I love vector overlays and stylish icons) fluid effects (I love fluid effects) phat breakbeats (oh I love phat breakbeats)
Ok. No graffiti this time (I love graffiti)... I just mean: I think its time to break their own rules. Not taking it to ne next level brute force but really to another one.
not so emotional critics: concrete stuff and road looks ugly. robot part faaar too long. Imho: direction award not deserved compared to the other nominees.
But as I said: Thumb! For the track for sure! *dance*

good one, but the fighting scene seems unfinished
I never get bored by this
OMG
*thumb*
SCHEISSE!
Awesome \o/
This is very fun to watch, and at the end the music turns into this awesome chiptune thing. Why do you guys not give us the MP3 in the archive? Let us listen to it outside the demo!!!
thumbup for the amazing intro part and the cute scene/chiptune during endpart :)
i'm not really into that car/robots part but I recognise that lot's of work was done!

...and the music still freakin rules.
yes \o/
Behaves very strange on ATI. on my 5770 crossfire setup the ribbons in the intro don't show, and only the headlights + skidmarks of the car show, nothing else. On a 4xxx card it does seem to work (albeit slowly), but there's just a black spot near the car almost all the time..
Felt very asd0978jhd today.
starts boring but gets better and better. great tune.
Really great demo with a nice d&b track!
Second part of it is awesome too
Had to make a Highres Youtube Rip of it :-)
Frameranger by Fairlight & orange & Carillon & Cyberiad (1080p)

what las said !
The first part of the demo looks great, but still not my cup of tea. The last part however, is really great. Nice music there and cool effects
Nice fluids :)
Awesome kung-fu!
Well, this is a tough one. Crazy rendering and choreography are plagued by choppy transitions and overall poor direction. The demo gets better in the last 2.5 minutes... in fact it becomes a completely different demo with 4k-like visual style.
It's obvious it needed more polish and a strong direction to work as intended, and that's the prevailing thought after watching it. Thus, piggy.

first min. is very nice, rest is ugly and music is cheesy.
Loved it! The high quality of design shows through. The 'second part' (after the fight finishes) seems to surprise me everytime I watch this.
Awesome, but a bit tough on my eyes with the TV fuzz. I'm waiting for the clean remix :)
I enjoyed the car part and the end (fluid particles) but not the robot fight. Anyway, awesome!
The first scene is the shit, unfortunately I don't like the rest so much :/
all has been said already :)
Awesome fx! Don't like the music so much.
top quality
Poorly animated car. Really poor. But the rest is OH-YEAH-OKAY :)
Fairlight quality!
I didn't thumb this up yet? I just watched it (again) on my new video card. Full screen, native resolution ... IT IS AWESOME. :)
Cool demo, nice design. Really liked the end part.
быстро шар и кровь :) Работает AMD R9 270x ( 13.12 ) :)
The second part doesn't really fit mood-wise, but otherwise awesome!
love it
Fairlight
car advert
looks like a three demos together, or maybe I just don't get the point... but it is amazing with a great music, sending my all humble love
technically professional. for me artistically was ok too maybe
upon re-watching it it's much worse than i remembered.
YES
Some kind of "let's play" video for a fictional game?
mecha kung fu!!!!!
Voxel effect kicks ass
Classy and really cool demo to watch!
nice
had a lot of potential but i just didn't like the robots part.
Still sublime to this day, aged pretty well. :)
Look it from any direction or angle rotated into your selection, and still the conclusion is clear. This is a good demo!
