.eeprom makes baby jesus cry :(
Saw it on the stream. Awesome work once again. Only complaint I have is about the music, I think it should rock out a little harder.

The bassline was incredibly groovy. The rest was awesome too, of course.

Not quite up to last years prod, but still an amazing effort!

Amazing considering the propeller RAM limitations and the video generator.... I still wonder how you did that !

I really liked the effects in the demo... and the music is great! But I miss some specs to the hardware. Keep on doing!

Missing the wow factor of last year, but great to see the style evolving along with the hardware. And this is an impressive amount of content for a 48Kb (32Kb?) intro on *any* platform...
rulez added on the 2009-04-13 13:32:27 by gasman gasman
I really like how you've progressed from the "let's do oldschool effects" to a collection of really stylish one.

vcsd : the propeller is a microcontroller but not that "classic". it contains 8 32bits RISC processors (called COGs) running each one at (max) 80 MHz. Basically, as each instr is about 4 cycles, 160 MIPs available. BUT, each COG has only 2 kb of fast RAM (somewhat, its registers space) and share with the others 32 Kb of RAM and I/Os.
-> schema

So really fast (considering the ATMega88 using for Craft)... but very few memory and everything should be spread over the 8 cogs
The music was ok, the rest was great.
rulez added on the 2009-04-13 14:05:08 by mic mic
Pretty neat. But I was expecting this from LFT and as other have said it lacked the "wow" factor because of that.

But maybe we should start a category where you have to use entirely homebrew hardware :)
rulez added on the 2009-04-13 14:06:31 by pigpenpete pigpenpete
I liked it. Quite a lot of contents and the direction was well executed. In Craft the sound was based on oldskool, fixed waveforms synthesis and this time it was FM. Nice progression :).

very enjoyable.

Of course, nice performance but that propeller uC gives a lot more function to accomplish that where the ATMega88 is not intended to do thing like ... e.g: music.
More than the demo itself Craft is breathtaking because of the things-you-are-not-supposed-to-do-with-it-but-you-did-it-anyway a.k.a breakthrough performance LFT won, hands down ;)
Anyway, no real WOW! effect here but still a good demo.

Really strange thing, this chip - though it looks like it has quite a lot of horsepower in it when compared with those tiny programable thingies like the ATMega.
Anyway, the nice sounding tune and especially the unique looking dithering are already worth a thumb on their own.

Nice demo! I wonder why the "screenshot" above showns the hardware the demo ran on..? Yes I know he built it himself (good job!) but the demoscene should of course be about making software, not hardware...

amazing, as I told at the train station :). by the way Shazz, this one has actually a big enough RAM to hold the frame-buffer and some more stuff. It was the last entry with those amazing limitations.

All in all, a well deserved winner.

Says who?

Either way, this was quite a feat and you made it quite hard for yourself by doing something on a micro controller so unknown. But well done!

A very worthy follow-up on the amazing breaktrough. I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the expectations when the slide was shown on the beamer, but it really did!

Awesome!!! I'd also like to have a download link for the soundtrack, because I simply love those FM sounds. :) The melody waveforms are a bit too "raw" and predominant sometimes, but that's not too bad. Also the gfx are of course very stunning once again!

that was WOW

now all the wankers who are barely able to make a gpu spit a sine scroll out, just quit
Moreover, there is an hidden part (long scroller, green 3D rotating cube and new tune), but not ion the video of course ;-)
It's 2009 - the internet rules the world - but there is is: The demo you can hold in your hand ;-) Extra thumb pushing all this into 32k ROM (!!) an 48k of RBAM and for the plattform with the least power consumption in the past 15 years.

seen it many times but after 4 years still no thumb? time to change.

demo itself rocks with it's nice effects. lovely smoke and the tunnel <3 the fact that it was made on such a platform is just a great extra because i would have thumbed it up too on another platform. well done.

Old news, but I made of version of this demo that outputs NTSC video. It's basically the same thing except the colors are a bit different.

Not sure if it's OK to add this to the prod links or if that'd count as a separate prod.
