pretty cool, nice to see noisy demos for a while. however did not work on mobility radeon x1600 (as expected), some shader compilation issues:
Code:
Error compiling shader waternoise2 [FS]: ERROR: 0:21: '-' : wrong operand types no operation '-' exists that takes a left-hand operand of type 'const int' and a right operand of type 'in float' (or there is no acceptable conversion)
ERROR: 0:21: '*' : wrong operand types no operation '*' exists that takes a left-hand operand of type 'const int' and a right operand of type 'const float' (or there is no acceptable conversion)
ERROR: 0:21: 'min' : no matching overloaded function found
ERROR: 3 compilation errors. No code generated.
spectacularly underwhelming
Guys, you heart my ears...
Massive.
*sigh*
the best noise demo so far.
I'll need to check the video to make sure I saw this correctly, because what I saw on my screen was a tragic mess that wouldn't even pass through Next Empire's quality control.
crap
Blehhrr"!""
I got a no errors message in xp (dx9.0c / nv8600gt) xD
but works great in linux with wine =)
imo too long for a noise demo.. but is ok

The voices in my head told me not to thumb this down.
clever abuse of the pixel shader
best demo since ages for me! would be cool to see something like this in a live noise performance with visuals responding to music. thanks everyone involved in this masterpiece!
I like the visuals, but the sound/noise/cacophony is just making my ears bleed.
the framerate wasn't high enough to judge the merits of this demo. too bad it's not codec friendly either...
Interesting effects, as always from MFX. The soundtrack is pure pain for my ears and I'm also not someone who can enjoy only grey colours for some minutes.
the soundtrack is pretty neat, but for my personal taste it misses some kind of highlight. would have made the demo more interesting, too. nevertheless it's a quite decent demo, so here goes my thumb.
seriously.. this is pure timewasting bullshit
I particularly like the parts that are not unlike regular division of the plane.
I used to hate these demos but this is so weird that I like it.
Dark. Brilliant. Bold.
No idea why people hate noise this much, but it's one of the only things one can't really have control over. And if an artist shows up, who in this particular case is Nosfe, and controls the flow of the noise, then it's pure beauty. Might be just personal tastes, but I think there's a fine line between random crap and art, this is on the second side.
I can dig this. more of this please!
what relias abardon said
This really blew my mind. The visual is unbelievably psychedelic (if you know, you know, you've taken... and so on :D). Music was engulfing at the compo, its ok. But the visuals. God damn it :) <3
Nice athmosphere. Art.
Cool visuals but I can't stand the soundtrack, so only a piggy from me.
technically certainly quite demanding, but a nightmare "for the people" (like those suicidebombers in islamic countries).
Boring....
A "suicidebomber" that just blew my mind.
Usually, I'm a fan of noise-demos but this one had too much noise and not enough demo for my taste.
too artzy for me.
Birds.

how about a non highish quality video?
if i had a fast rig i prolly would also have an 8800xt -_-

there are some interesting structures appearing, but there are also too many pointless scenes, but I guess that goes with the genre.
I would like to see a production like this with a bit more polish.

No. no, no, no, no, no and NO!
great one!
Uff. I really liked the noise, but the sound is unbearable. Why does this stuff always have to be paired up with sound you just can't stand to listen to? Just because it's artsy, does not mean it has to be a pain in the arse ( or the ears in this case ).
Damn, that was great! Only thing I didn't like was the 'bird sounds' at the end.. I thought it either needed something visual to match (like a 'return to something natural' at the end), or that sound cutting. But otherwise, stunning!
the mac managed to run the video despite a few framedrops. excellent stuff. it really sucks on the heavy requirements to be able to see it properly though. -_- i cant afford a machine update every year. -_-
ouch
Haha, what garbage.
Didn't like it - some of it looks pretty neat, but the music is not my cup of tea.
hmm. although I like this kind of stuff, this one didn't grab me. Although some scenes gave me goosebumps, I had to wait too long for them. I will give it a second try after Function.
sorry, looks like some arty masturbation for me. I'm surely a boeotian moron. French people know nothing about art. I don't see the point, or rather there are too many of them !! :D
Piggy.
Piggy.
...
With demos like this I often wonder if it's intended to look like this or if it's some random experiment that just turned out that way.
Given that I hate minimalism, it's no surprise that I dislike this demo. It looks awful and
the spec requirements make no sense for such a basic effect.

Uh, no.
Liked it! One GodSpeedYou!BlackEmperorish speech sample would set the tone :-)
Lifeforce is NOTHING against this masterpiece!
ps called, he wants his artyfarty sluggish code back!
sorry, i dont geddit, or my weed is too weak :/
NOISE PAR EXCELLENCE...sound ,fx,everything :)

wanna watch this demo on ya demo-box the days, man. :O)
Its long, audio doesn't change much, visuals doesn't change much. You have done much better in the past, but this one is terrible. Sorry.
you don't understand a shit
The last "scene" looked really awesome. But all over all this did not really capture me. Swine.
really liked it
Downer directly to the tune, that's a load of horse hockey.
It could have worked with the right piece of ambient music...and by that I mean ambient like FSOL, right!

ROTFL @ dodge
...really, I watched it muted and the last 3 minutes implied a completely different "tune" ... you know, music that actually _allows_ effect synchronising ;P
Noise demo is really a strange art :/
I guess it's anti-Wade day today. :)
Pommak: Sure, I don't have a clue about the technical side of this demo, but from a visual point of view I don't get much impact.
Actually, I'm a big fan of your work, but I think your previous demos have much more impact and more visual appeal.

dodge: well, no wonder you wont get the value out of the thing, you dont even bother watching them as meant to be experienced.. wouldnt fsol type of ambient need some more colors then greyscale to work as a demo btw? ;)
I must be great to work on an mfx demo : there must be no visual bug but only visual innovations.
nytrik has leading :D
nytrik, nothing personal, but don't you think that modelling scary monsters and factories interior again and again is much harder? ;)
interesting. to bad that the whole "concept" (as it shows to me) seemed to fade away with a quite clueless annoying second half.

Sq : Ok i m a bit sarcatic. Sorry .
But well, when i design a monster that looks like a pile of random polys in real time i can consider that i failed and i have to try again.
Here, I have the feeling that a random pile of poly could fit this demo quite well...
Im might be wrong.
This is true for this demo. Deities or ather are completly different.

mfx style isn´t my cup of tea... really dumb stuff in my opinion...
Well I'm basically a sucker for good noise and I also like the soundtrack. Reminds me a bit of 80ies tape music. Comparably Asmus Tietchens comes to mind.
for the brilliant name :>
Pommak: Maybe my comment sounded harsh and I apologise that I offended you, but please understand I was not criticising your code with my comment.
As a graphics guy, I usually base my opinions on the visual aspects of a production. Personally, I hate 128 and 256 byte intros and alike because they don't look good to my eyes and I don't know enough about the code to appreciate it. Same goes for this demo.
When I think of high specs, I think of elaborate scenes, lots of fancy graphics, and more of a cinematic look.
I know you are an outstanding coder and I have a heap load of respect for your previous productions, so please don't take my comment as an insult towards your coding abilities. But this demo looked too basic for my tastes.

Look, I was at home and checked this amazing production with Denon AKDL1 Dedicated Link Cable and seriously, it's been an epiphany.
Don't miss it, go buy this cable NOW.

underlying code has functionally animated depth correct artifact minimal steep parallax mapping with dynamic reflections and all the time post process effects create pixel accurate image based "noise" along with moire effects and color bleeding. All this runs in 720p at decent framerate on my mobile geforce 7800, which I don't consider very high-end gfx card anymore.
certainly didnt look or run like that. try 1 fps on a HD X2400.
Pommak: I have to say, I got around 1fps from my 7800 GT, which is basically why I considered this to need high specs (I was thinking 8800 just to run).
i didnt like the first couple of minutes at all, but there was some great looking stuff towards the end

Serves u right for using ATi! ;)
Runs very fine on GF9500GT! And still, the most psychedelic demo in many years.
I do like MFX, i appreciate artsy/noizy demos, i like code 'exploits'. Ran fine fine on my 7600GT/XPSP3
I simply don't like this one.
I simply don't like this one.
@ps:
I also watched it with ...well what ever that sound was. If I want to piss off myself I just read the news. Don't need a demo at all to do that.

M.C.Escher where are you ?
Ace visuals and direction.
I would totally adore this demo if the soundtrack was following the visuals, too bad they seem uncorrelated.

not my taste
watched it again. the second half is worth a thumb
What kohai said.
the worst piece of shityness. music please. action please. no more of this lo-fi artsy-fartsy.
this was... weird... hehe
One high-res noise demo to rule them all
It's pretty cool, although I would really love to see it in true hi-res instead than on video. It would even certainly benefit from a >HD resolution.
best nightmare ever!
visuals : why not
soundtrack : not my cup of tea

second half is much better than first. Nice ending. Sound was too offensive though...better use of volume would have helped enormously.
nice visual.
the music is not my taste.

massive. solid.
of course radial noise effect is totally overused, and the sound is too chimera'ish, but still very very impressive.

wurden die in ihrer kindheit oft geschlagen?
Nice visuals, althoug the tune where a bit to repetive for me
Looks like lame "alternative art". Font suxx.
1.5 Gb video... Why not to publish a few screenshots instead?

More interesting than the Ballet Golems at least. Cool "analogue" look at times, don't recall seeing something like that before. Could've been 4 minutes shorter.
by the way, reminds me THIS 64k-intro.
I love it, I'd like to hear more about it.
don´t like it at all
gets my name-thumb
one of the bestest demos ever!
mad props for the visuals but the music really didn't do it for me ( not to mention 7minutes of it ) ---> gruik
I applaud the idea of making a high-profile noise demo, even though it didn't work out so well.
You guys should stop doing crack.
Awesome visuals! But the "audio" nearly ruined it all.
Original and neat visuals. Music fits.
this was very very very very very hypnotic on the bigscreen.
:)
some of the visuals had some subtle and nice touches, but that monotonous audio didnt suit them imo
oh and it ran fine on my 7800 :)
pressure.
Finally got a computer that runs this one. One could say mfx has lost their touch, but I think they went back to their roots after all the mainstream releases.
For a first time watching it was an interesting experiment - first feeling like discovering all the "cool" filters in Photoshop 4 back in the days, emerging finally into a grand noise bliss. The moment when the camera raises from the "sea of noise-embossed shapes" was alone worth the wait.

Moire interference to the max - finally a 3D hw acc demo catches up with sw 2D!
why is the video 1.5 gb
Because random pixel info each frame is the enemy of every video encoder.
lmao, i relent
would have desserved a music
wow
music :(
forgotten thumb
That's a keeper....for me.
Great to see proper avantgardist stuff in the demoscene. The visuals are great and fuck everyone who can't handle the music, it's a good track.
very nice news.
Excellent, but needs good viewing conditions in order to enjoy it.
I usually don't thumb down, but this was so bad in so many areas that I need to.
Nosfe is the Damien Hirst of Noise, but lamer.

Fucking ACE demo, watched again (at least 10th time). Love u guys <3 u==3
I can't believe I didn't thumb this one down already.
Hm, I actually quite enjoyed this. I usually like these ambient sorta noise demos a lot more than just senseless headfuck. In general, I always appriciate original and experimental content, so long as it is conduited well. The visuals seemed nice, though in the end it just is noise. Had to watch on the video though because this hates ati, so I couldn't fully see them in great detail. These demos truely require a certain mood and viewing conditions to watch, and be truely immerse into these visuals and audio. Well, it's a thumb up from me.
tenx.
WELL I LOVE IT VERY MUCH
fuck.
while this is easily the best crafted and visually most stunning noise-demo ive seen the sound made my teeth hurt and i felt like my brain was about to explode.
i didnt even want to imagine hearing this on a proper soundsystem at the partyhall! :p
deserves a thumb tho, i guess

solid
Possibly the first noise demo I like :O Didn't enjoy the music that much, but the ordered rendering versus random chaos ratio of the visuals was spot on.
Absolute mindfuck, only in the demoscene do you see art like this.
Congrats!
pigface before, pigface now..
i'd like to see a remix of this on an 8 bit platform

Just dowloaded the avi. It´s easy to see why a gallery would want this. A great vision realized very open to interpretation.
Been surprised by the amount of variety in that one.
Noise well done. Worth the thumb. (and congratz for being in an art collection. I can easily see it standing in an exposition :)
