Smash´s coding abilities rullezors once again
rulez added on the 2008-08-03 00:24:12 by Trauma Zero
Best 64k Ive ever seen.
Brought back the 64k intro's on the scene map. Great stuff! Reed's tune to.. Could have won the demo compo!
goddamn this was good on the stream. I'll definitely give it a rulez even before haing checked it out for myself!
fix the link!
just stunning. demo of the party with no doubt
The product made me happy!
Didn't I comment on this a while ago? :|
Best 64kb intro in 3 or 4 years. And reed finaly did a different soundtrack ;)

yeah nice tune reed mate, and quality intro overall :)
Jaw dropping
YES! Fairlight re-invented, and this time non-disco-funky.
Really great in many aspects; Visuals; loved the underwater angle, connections, transitions, explosions/smoke.
The music; the distorted voice, the "dark" setting in general.
Mega thumb up - clearly this years surprise at Assembly!

Nice to see something interesting from Fairlight after a very long while. Great direction.
biggest WOOH! effect from a 64k for years o_O
quite artistic. clear winner.
Already requested a fix for the download url

Holy shit! Fairlight total ownage!
..and might I add: I CAN HAS SAMPLES!
..and might I add: I CAN HAS SAMPLES!
Wow, that's a killer.
But I know how they did - the 64k are just a loader to download the remaining 10MB that are required for this masterpiece from their server - beware to cut your connection during run-time ;-)

Just amazing
\o/
OMFG!! This is much better than bigger demos of last year.
Amazing work for a 64k.
Amazing 64k!
WTF
Got only a loading bar and the music =(
ATI x1950
1,5 gb ram
ATI x1950
1,5 gb ram
same thing..white screen and music... :(
Thanks Smash! For the highlight of Assembly and for bringing back the 64k... Reed once again a great track ;)
this is rubbish.
nah, just kidding, it's alright ;)
Fuck, as much fun as it'd be to write a "nice, BUT..." comment just to uphold the tradition, I simply can't. Oh wait, I can: The explosion particles looked a bit 2d. Ha. Take this.
But otherwise, this intro is pretty bloody damn perfect. Hats off to both of you. Also, thanks for reviving the 64k category once more. :)

absolutely stunning
"Fuck you ASD.
Best regards,

Smash+Reed/Fairlight"
hey, i have to add that it RUNS on my 1900+ (single core of course :P) - and it's smooth! just takes a long time to load.
epic precalc indeed.. but i suppose thats whats needed for an epic intro :)
Ps, rulez on ATI 3870 x2.
Insanely long precalc and low fps on my system, but from what i managed to see this definitely rules. Very cool scenes and a nice nod to our good friend Timbo :)
Winner. Superb visuals and very nice music by Reed. Pitty there's not much of a competition (where CNS are for example?).
one question remaining is: which codec have you been using for those samples, I'd love to get the full experience out of that soundtrack on vista.
You rule.
(Btw, I used to smirk about those complaining about the hardware requirements of Flt productions, cause I never encountered any problems with my mid-prize machine. But this one killed it :-) - had to watch it in tear-o-vision in 640x480. But I wouldn't dare to complain, because you have to aim for the top to achieve results like this amazing production!)
Thanks for bringing 64ks back to life. Together with Sqny and Traction, that is.

Fantastic, love at first listen and sight, massive respect to Reed & Smash, may your teamwork never end. <3
this is what an assembly winner intro has to be like :)
yeah, this comes after i almost lost hope for seeing good 64k
Here's a Video Capture, and Capped.TV. Note both use the exact same mp4. ;P
fukeen.
awesome.
respekt.
awesome.

Not bad! :)
awesome...
Rocks
This ruled the bigscreen hard!
Superb in all ways and makes me ashamed of releasing at asm.

wow. what a show. big respect to you guys. nice to see you are back in action reed :)
Am i the only one that doesn't think this is the best thing since bacon?
Seriously, i get 5 minutes of precalc and then 1 fps for most of the time :) It had a couple of decent things though.

gosh
son of a ...
got it to run in windowmode for some reason.. wish i could give a 2nd thumb, it's MASSIVE :)
omg this one rocks so hard
well, for some reason its not working very decent on my old calculator..
there´s some minor design flaws, but they somehow lack importance when i realize... heh..
This is a fucking 64k intro on Windows..

hmm: thanks to reed for the muzak! :)
It rules alright but not as much designwise as some of the previous Fairlight productions. It was more like a 3D tech demo. I'd liked to see some more solid design.
amazing
excellent
excellent, excellent soundtrack! unbelievable for 64k.
great everything, too.
best 64k in years.

Oh dear god! The 64k intro has been revived and taken to a new level!
The music kicks ass and having lyrics in there made it even more phenomenal, there's a lot of 3d models for 64k and the textures are so varied and detailed I'm wondering if I could do any better with several hours in Photoshop.
This right here is what the demoscene is all about!!

Impressive. Basically taking what has been accomplished in 4k and multiplying it by 16.

Great demo. But doesn't run with X1950. Loading Bar remains on about 75% an music starts, but no graphics... Anyway, I watched the video and the demo is very good
bah. fairlight the false idols?
come on. seriously. i read the nfo before i saw the intro and i haven't been so disappointed since the bp commercial went offline. GAH. this intro is nothing but the same crap we have seen over and over again, same primitives, occasionally joined by a rather lame algorithm, mostly just randomly. music is decent, and not disturbing but eh, what is not standard synthesizer nowadays?
SHADERS?! Oh wtf. You must include RGB presets in those shaders to reach those #400 shaders. jeez.
but i am interested in how you shared the same comfortable production methods as you used in your demos, having access to the same quality and quantity of effects and shaders as in your demos, and having a soundtrack that could be in one of your demos.
still. its a really good 64k, which you could've/should've done five years ago.

how the hell did you make perspective correct texture mapping AND bilinear filtering run this fast?
rainmaker: This time it's really a matter of "buy a faster PC" because it runs perfectly smooth (as in always >=30fps) at 1600x1200 on my pc. Granted, I have a whole NV demokit without GPU lying around here because those were the parts that were already better in my machine, but still. Considering how nearly flawless the rendering is, it's ok to require at least a halfway state of the art machine IMHO.
design-wise the intro is a bit low-powered to my taste, but it has a singular touch and contributes to the strong ambiance of the storyline.
the narration and the flow are excellent, the timing and the scenes sequence are perfectly set.
i also dig the symbols used, add it to a masterpiece soundtrack, and here's my new favorite 64k intro, thank you fairlight ! =)

The style and ideas are quite repetitive.
Anyway, the technic is perfect, as always.

Totally nice!

Was worth the decrunchingtime :D
Absolutely great in all aspects. Probably the best 64k-intro since years/Chaos Theory.
Please release the soundtrack - thanks.
Please release the soundtrack - thanks.
insane..
so refreshing!
Well it's hard not to thumb this one up. It's really cool most of the time.
hmmm saw this on live and voted for it but now I try and run it, I get loading bar , the music starts, no graphics. 2 Gig RAM, x1950, latest drivers, xpsp2. Seems to be same problem as #535
awesome, BUT... :-)
The only things that nagged me were the not-so-underwater underwater explosions (where's the bubble collapse/implosion?) and the fact that in the initial scene the water surface doesn't seem to refract the submerged stuff (at all, or enough to drive the point home)..
apart from those minor nags i must say this is one awesome piece of work. Reed's soundtrack especially kicked major ass.

Wicked stuff, nice surprise after keeping it quiet for so long.. direction is getting better and better by every prod! Reed's tune is lovely, made me think of death and taxes again.. <3
completely cool! ups for the graphics -especially coming from a musician who started to code and then just rolled the graphics on the side as well. i'm jealous like shit!
its a monster !
Explosions, water, details, reviving reed... Killer stuff, definitely the big hit of ASM08.
about to be a compo winner
chockingly good!
holy cow
good. but it just doesn't make me sing.
Great stuff!
Cool.
A solid fist in the face. This is what it's all about.
great effects, good music
some kind of radnom design? but rules anyway.

YES! finally!
Thank you for proving that 64k can be the new 64k!
Thank you for proving that 64k can be the new 64k!
Awesome!
64k is the new demo! :] I'm glad you've returned to the 64k business. Great job!
wow, amaizing work.. ultra-respect ;)
it's good. bloody excellent soundtrack. attitude in the nfo-file seemed kinda forced though - definitely not enough to get me interested in doing 64ks again :).
As a comment to the attitude bit: "You can be good without being evil."
At last, the PC prevails over the Amiga in 64k intros! -jk
too ridiculously cheesy for me even if the visual are very good
Really impressive :)
WOOT...
u ppl are beasts !1 2 prods in same party and both are so heavy !
this one theme is so kickass !!

more of these shits plz :D!

you're such a show-off, guys. :) Thank god the bad-ass attitude is returning to the scene.
Absolutely amazing stuff you squeezed in there, both of you.

now i'm jealously demotivated
Fucking rocks!
Nice mix of arrogance and awesome. Well done :D
Now, that was fucking excellent!
Wow just wow.
fuckenshitt!!! WOW! 0_o
After reading that NFO I expected the intro to completely blow me away. It didn't. It's a good intro, no doubt - but it reeks of the usual not-quite-there intro-feel, and the graphics wasn't as good as I've come to expect from FLT. I don't see how this is any revolution as the NFO promised...
Still, a good intro - and the soundtrack bloody rocks!
Still, a good intro - and the soundtrack bloody rocks!
It was very good!
I like the technique, I really love the music, not so much the demo itself.
hahaha! ok, own up.. who marked this as 1st before the results have been announced!? :D
O_o--b
excellent, though I liked dead ringer much more. nice to see fairlight doing 64ks again!
Very bloody good!
yo
Fairlight just announced on Assembly: "We will only do a 64k again, if someone does a better one which kicks our asses!"
The tune simply rocks, without doubt my favourite Reed tune! :) The rest is damn cool too, specially the underwater scenes. Great job!
Technically impressive, but don't quite like the direction. But still very impressive.
i knew i had to get a new gfx card sooner or later. this gave me a good reason. really stunning stuff guys. and welcome back reed. :)
Slow as hell on my GF8600GT/Dual Core 2,5 GHz ...
but damn nice - especially for 64k !!!
Nice work, indeed !
but damn nice - especially for 64k !!!

Very nice! love the shot angled up looking through the rising water.
Music is very nice, overal a very high level. impressive :)

Finally a very good 64k again.
The sound really does deserve a mention, the demo is totally excellent.
My personal favourite.
wow :)
Fucking awesome
master morgoth the mortals bow down...
Amazing on all levels
Ah yes, I only miss a 1680x1050 resolution option :)
wtf??? o_0 looks like a movie... amazzzing
the fluid effects works superb under water!
rulez!!! it just rules!
This is insane.
Thumb goes up. Really impressive!
Smash is that iron-pumping big guy at the local gym that everybody wants to hate but just cannot. Because he gets results.
Excellent soundtrack. The whole intro is really hilarious :). Unfortunetely doesn't work on both NV demoboxes?
The soundtrack keeps running in my head :).
The soundtrack keeps running in my head :).
quite good but it fails to blow me away (and yeah, the infofile didnt help either)
better than any of the demos at assembly :)
runs better on my gf7950 than media error, curiously. it was about halfway through when i realized "wait a minute, this is 64k, this shouldn't have those voice samples in there". yeah, best demo from asm'08 and best 64k in over a year.
worthy winner for some awards.. :-)
one of the best 64ks EVER! Really cool concept, artwork, music. And at the same time technically groundbreaking! Awesome amount of content for 64k. Thanks for bringing the 64k scene back to life :)
After Breakpoint 2008 I've said that 64k intros are dead. Thanks to Smash and Reed I have to say sorry for this stupid statement. This is such a shocking experience (in an extremely positive way) as Debris and Lifeforce has been last year. I bow down and fall on my knees in front of you, my heroes :-)
who said 64ks are dead?
i did and i would do it again to get people to do stuff like that to prove me wrong ;)
excellent in every aspekt, the best 64k so far this year (and also for a very long time)

Awesome! Great work!!
Crashes after pressing ok, window is created on desktop but I get the "want to tell Microsoft what went wrong eh" window right away.. nvidia9800gx2 and winxp and uh enough ram.. please make it work :P
i watched this a dozen times today, not something i do much with any demo.. so yeah this impresses the shit out of me. but after watching it so many time i did see some really tiney 'flaws' (such as the (misalligned?) particles under the chair when it starts to float, walltextures not really connecting to eachother or some weird geometry clipping in the walls of the endscene) but heh i cant do it any better myself and accompanied with the soundtrack i will still watch this a zillion times. (btw PLZ release the soundtrack as mp3 or whatevah. is killer.) its great. fucking great. and one minor other flaw, selecting 16:10 keeps crashing it here.
again mad props for the statement on stage.
What did those arrogant tossers say on stage then? :)
This is the best 64K in years!
i... i don't know what to say... but smash, i hate you since you were like "no no no, no fairlight release at assembly" :P
perfect
In-fuckin-sane!
soundtrack plz :D!!
what britelite said
makes me wanna smoke...somehow
great one
argh as evilpaul said, inspiring and crushing at the same time... epic
very very good. certain things in the flow and music reminded me of Lifeforce and I was going to count it as a negative but then i remembered this is 64k. impressive.
same old shit... where is the soul? is it a 3d video or a demo? no offense but i don't like it...
there's no explosion in the end :(
and as usual, technically I don't like the style, but too many good details :)
and as usual, technically I don't like the style, but too many good details :)
d'ont run in full screen but ok in windows..
very good music..
very good music..
Goodlooking generated textures, goodlooking effects, nice flow, nice bullet to jetfighter morphs, cool water, nice looking explosions, quality music.
Simply the best 64k and i can`t see anyone beating this in 2008.
Simply the best 64k and i can`t see anyone beating this in 2008.
I sort of feel as though i'm missing something that others are seeing and i'm not, and that my piggy will be out of place amongst all the thumbs :/ Don't know why, but it just didn't grab me. Certinly has got it's style, nice tune by Reed but unless i think "one to watch again!" then not something i could thumb up. Sorry guys.
Smash Smash Smash - the executable runs for a second then disappears :( I'm on an 8-CPU Mac Pro with 8GB RAM and three ATi 2600XTs. I know, I know - it's my computer at work and I'm not proud of it. Any ideas?
bof
Put the dll in (duh) and now the config runs, but then it crashes. Sadface :(
Jesus Bellamy Christ on rubber crutches - it only crashes on fullscreen. Bizarre!
Heh, that's probably it. My res is set to 1680x1050 (what aspect ratio is that?). Anyway, windowed, it ran fine on Display #1 but seriously low framerate on Display #2. Haven't tried Displays #3-#6 yet, but will through a projector (I'm displaying this at a seminar on Wednesday). Anyway, if you come on IRC today I'll bore you there instead :)

All together now... COCK!!!
Syphus works on the Nebuchadnezzar? o_O
Exceptionally good 64k. Arrogance coupled with actually backing it up rules supreme, and this 64k backs up mostly everything. Love it!
@okkie: :D
@okkie: :D
My favourite Fairlight PC production.
Loved the panzerfish and bulletplanes scenes... Fairlight ressurected the 64k scene.
Nice work, finally an impressive 64k intro again!
It does run a bit slow though. I checked with FRAPS, and while it is constant 60fps in the beginning, when those underwater explosions hit, I am dropping down to 15 fps, and then I am running at the lowest possible res (640x480).
My system is no state-of-the-art-super-mega machine, but 15 fps @ 640x480 seems kind of low.

To everyone who doesn't like the style, go and watch some fucking metaballs, twat.
This is the best 64k ever written. Effect? What about the water, the explosions, and how the fuck they managed to get what I've calculated to be about 40k of 2-bit samples into a 64k demo.
PS. Smash is still from northampton :-D

Nice work, I enjoyed watching it, still blows my mind how these things are made.
Woops, I forgot to thumbup.

I'm pretty sure it's not 2 bit and I'm pretty sure they did not invent their own lossy audio codec. :) My guess is that those 3 or 4 seconds worth of samples end up to be like 10kb in the finished product.
whoa. In my laptop it was like a slideshow after a few seconds, but it was an impressive slideshow.
Crazy good stuff. Nice design (with flow that goes all the way through for a change.. even if the scenes aren't really all that related, the transitions or effects that link them together pull it all together perfectly), and top notch quality throughout. Good tune too. Well up near the top of my all-time favourite intros over all, and firmly at the top of the 'most impressive' list.
Plus a few things not really related to the intro but make me happy anyway: PC 64k is back, and the flt intro tools are no longer gathering dust. \o/
Smash: couple of glitches here too, probably related to drivers being out of date, but JSYK: I get horrible tearing, despite vsync being ticked (and I mean horrible, like the worst tearing I've ever seen!) Also, the water in the first scene is lacking any specular/lighting, making it look a bit.. invisible. I saw somebody else saying it lacked refraction, maybe we should get together for a complete effect? :) Oh, i'm on a radeon 2600. I'll update drivers when I get some time to boot into windows again and see if it works better.

Worked windowed. Excellent!
Brilliant work all around. Loved the lighting, music.. Let's see how the other groups respond :)
64kb is back.
Awesome work for a 64k!
best 64k for a long time and the music is soo cool!
thanks.
I'm sure this prod is fantastic but each time I download zip file, my antivirus (fsecure) found Trojan.Win32.Pakes.jzc in the executable file... An idea ? (other than erase fsecure... ;-)).
looks like someone carefully analyzed some maxon/half-a-bit-cheese work (revolver, bullets, etc.)
Anyways: In general the progression of how one idea transforms/follows onto the next feels very similar and has a kind of improvised/stand-up/brainstorm feel to it. Which i mean in the positive sense. Like an artist scribbling in his sketchbook, letting it flow, one idea sparks the next etc.
Also technically impressive.

Nice comeback by the dutch-.kkake-eating duo, Smäsh & Rëëd, but I still like Dead Ringer more :-)
extra point for ultra super music
cool atmosphere put into effect in 64k - nice!
I am impressed by the generated artwork(textures, models). I think, the water in the room is 2D surface simulation. And for visualisation some search in a rendered surface with depth values, or raytrace to the main polys of the room. Also, Fairlight has shown a better explosion before, this looks like billyboard animations. Though the overall result is the greatest 64k in a long time.
everything is said above!
thanX FLT :)
thanX FLT :)
This is one fucking amazing epic awesome soundtrack that totally blew me away.
The water didn't look very water-ish to me, but apart from that the flow, camera and direction in general was top-notch. Fairlight's still saving the day.

is gewd
unfortunately doesn't work here. C2D E6600, 2GB RAM, GF7600GT, XP. First I tried 800x600 fullscreen, gave me a crash dialog, then I tried windowed, got the window and the precalc, after precalc was finished, switched to fullscreen with strange colors and a dialog was like "nv4_disp can not operate normally. try restarting your system" :(
but video ruled anyway :)
but video ruled anyway :)
Didnt work here and no error messages. But thanks for the video. Many detalied and stylish scenes. Music is also fine... and all in all in 64kb!
tesla: you probably need d3dx9_31.dll ;)
intro: very nice, some small details could be better (are we getting here to the point "expectations to 64k are way too high" ?) but god damn it's a great piece of work. the soundtrack is awesome, maybe the usage of the voice-samples could have been decreased a bit tho, but i'm not even certain here.
it's a really good production.

What I don't get is how you are able to stream all that data from the internets... :D
"And that's how, with a few minor adjustments, you can turn a regular gun into five guns."
demo-esque meshes, textures, music and effects? far from that.
still the technically most advanced intro ever.
still the technically most advanced intro ever.
bennys badekar
In every possible way, this is a true killer intro! Smash not only prove his skill as a coder here, he also shows his skill as a designer! Reed's soundtrack is as always brilliant, he seams to handle that synth really well!! The only thing I didn't fully like is the "explosions", they doesn't look that good, but every thing else is truly top-notch!
I feared that Smash's talk about not having enough motivation to size-code/optimize code for an intro and instead make demos was for real, thankfully he was just full of shit! ;D
Now we only want a diskmag article which describes the technology involved! :)

speechless.
Hope to find such great qualities in the future , Must buy a PC to run it ....
doesnt run on ati x1650 even though its a ps 3.0 card
same problem some ppl reported already
music playing and loading bar
asd had the fix up pretty fast for their last demo ;) ...

Wow. That was great.
Whoa!!!
I think magic should make a diskmag article about reeds comeback. it should include some thoughts from reed himself.
now go to work magic!!! this deserves such an article in a diskmag!
(still love me reed? :) )

Proteque: Read the nfo carefully ;)
nice.. but....
rememberharamambaroom!
technically for sure the most advanced intro still it feels somehow like its the dead end of this kind of progression.

This thumb goes for the soundtrack.
Quite ok.
An mp3-link would be most appreciated if you got some spare time at your hands!
I had to repeat to myself "this is only a 64k, this is only a 64k". Pure Awesomeness, great code, design, and excellent music...
Nice for a first 64k Smash ! Looking forward to your next prods !
damn, i forgot the thumb.
me too
I would say this is really great craftmanship. The underwater middle part felt somehow empty and the explosions were overused, but the amount of content, the awesome music and the great engine all make this the most advanced 64k out there.
If it wouldn't have been for the nfo, that is.
Cause I really can't see where those 400 shaders went, or where those advanced textures can be seen. As I read chaos's comment, maybe it's just us moaning, who have some insight to what's possible today in 64k. (yeah I now, shut up and show it already :)
Then again, it definitely works as a kick in the ass for the 64k scene, so well done :)

Fucking awesome, <3 to smash and reed.

For a good example of boasting in info files, see threestate :)
Ok I wasn't sure whether the technical babble also falls under the "we're so 1337" part, but I get it, it's the same shit again .without .the .dots ;)
i know this has soul
It's difficult not to thumb-up this one, but it's "yes, this is good", not "WAAAAAAAH" for me. (In particular, the lighting isn't all that pretty, and some of the water effects just look weird to me.) Oh, and using Windows codecs to pack samples? Come on :-)
But yes, this is good, and well worth a thumb. Congrats :-)

Oh, and disclaimer: I've only seen the video. Stuff might look different in full resolution.
What codec is used? I obviously dont have it since i cant hear the samples.
loved the text in greetings part!
Who I can find the soundtrack plz ?
reed is working on an mp3 export.
is the ati crash bug gonna get fixed anytime?
because it doesnt really feel that leet ;)

Thumb up for video, crashes the driver for the Radeon X1550 Pro over here. (Music plays fine, though).
WGS.
not really my style, but technically this demo is superb, and the music is quite enjoyable. big thumbs up, congrats on raising the 64k bar!
nice
yes, fairlight did it again :-) another great intro from that marvellous guys.
maybe there is a trojan in the file. got from my antivir guard: TR/Pakes.jzc i read, that it create a backdoor tool called SKVP.SYS!
wow, its quite impossible, that fairlight wrote such a great intro and implement a trojan :-) technically perfect...
this one rulez! escpacally the dark war theme...
thanks...

very good
just wondering, is the video available here showing the intro as it should? the water in the first scene seems to look quite different in the screenshot.
wtf is up with people these days littering comment threads with false virus reports on pouet. its a bit depressing...
Technically very nice and the soundtrack rocks.
unbelievably awesome
My favourite 64k.
The visuals didn't give me shivers, but the sountrack and the synth totally did.
good product = rules!

if there *was* a trojan, this would definitely not be 64k anymore :D
UN-BEH-LI-VAH-BUL!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay! Fascinating what one can do in 64k these days. Liked the submarine part.
Probably the best "64k" in the world.
very nice 64k ;>
I love this 64k!
great stuff
Awesome stuff
Impressive file size, but demo was OK. Music was decent.
awesome!
Impressive as hell, but I just didn't like it that much..
Quote:

Yeah, this trojan rules hard!
I like the fish-sub :) Nice ripple effects also.
Uh... Unbelievable. Through what trojan did you download all the rest of the data of this demo ?!?
omg
what have i done? it was my mistake to believe, that there is a trojan in this file. and i don't have read the other comments before... i'm just a fan of this magic art, and got no clue in coding. therefore i don't know that it's quite impossible to implent a trojan in this small filesize. strange, and i thougt before, that in a small keygen could be a virus! i've no idea, sorry if i hurt s.b. with my statement! i really like the scene & the spirit.

impossible is nothing. and yes, beware of the keygens! my comment was not really serious, but it intended to mean that this particular intro is already so great that it's almost impossible to get a trojan together with these gfx and this great music into 64k.therefore i don't know that it's quite impossible to implent a trojan in this small filesize.
such a great work! music, visuals - awesome!
Very nice intro.
Favourite moment is about 2:24 when the music is pitched up a notch with the mines blowing up behind the fish.
Nice modern look. Only thing i felt was abit weak was the smoke effect. Didn't have proper volume, though i don't really know how underwater smoke is supposed to look. :)
The tune is massive! Powerful stuff. Dig the sampling. To quote timba: it's not as if you went to his house and took it from his computer. :)

Great effects for a great demo. Water spills had Reminded me ATI's Radeon x2*** series demonstration in CeBIT 2006.
Fairlight had grabbed the 64K flag. (With contribution from FR's kkrunchy runtime compression technology)

Awesome! Nice to see Reed back, as well.

like it :)
I get a virus warning using AVG ... I am assuming its a false positive :D I had to keep reminding myself that its a 64k intro, and not a full demo. Nice textures, and quite nice water effect. Also liked the music. Good job!
Hearts to the lovely textures and especially loved the first scene as the water appeared. Shame about the precalc time as it makes it difficult for impromptu viewing.
smash, any chance of a more accurate capture?
teh shit
wow, thanks for this great prod - i dont even dare to consider its 64k. also, the music made my day, great mood! :)
outstanding!! :>
EJACULATRON
Good of course, but I wouldn't reach for the dozens of superlatives.
some kind of a "story" in the beginning, though it rapidly goes nowhere during the later part of the demo. clearly some very good ideas regarding transitions, someone payed attention to asd's seminar. thank you very much for ripping off timbaland, it was due. technically clearly cutting edge. colors were butt ugly, same goes for the explosions. felt like a clone of lifeforce at some points.
i don't expect as much from 64k's as i do from demos, so here goes my thumbs up.

Ati fix?
Nice. :)
I was never a fairlight fan, but this one is an exception...
Doesn't have a 'wow' effect for me. probably related to the fact that it doesn't run vey well on my system...
Doesnt catch me at all, but, I believe its a new setpoint in 64K, I request an article in a mag of the speciality.
Here's mine for the surprise element and ruining my plans to finally win a compo (in a long long time) at assembly ;)
Chimanako!
I have just watched a video... This intro totally rocks!
Dobre.
Excellent work. :)
Unfortunately crashes when going to fullscreen on my GeForce9800GT (XP/C2D/drivers 177.92). So I have to watch it windowed.

I can't believe you actually released this pile of horse shit. Someone should actually die for making me sit through this crappy collection of ghey effects and bollocks music! I'm going to fucking kill you, retard!
smash and reed rule!
how cool is that? very.
I can confirm the problem rickst mentions - crashes when attempting to run in fullscreen on that GPU. GeForce drivers from today. Works fine in windowed mode. Also, rulez.
If this is fixed, can we have a 1680x1050 screenmode too, please? :)

Beware, do not worship false idols like... Timbaland! Aaliyah feat. Timbaland - Try Again ;)
reed: Yeah, I know. He even doesn't rap "Time's up..." etc in this one. I'm just saying do not worship false idols like Timbaland :).
Nice 64k. Music is shit though.
i still have to give it a "rulez" just for the amount of effort put into this but I totally didn't like the "flow" of the demo (there are far better fairlight demos in this regard!)
@ rickst: ran on my 7600 gt in 1280*720 with newest drivers in fullscreen! Update drivers.
runs on my new 9500gt with a lot more detail.
This is brilliant.
How the hell is this not in top 10 all times (not even 64k)?

Beautifully executed. Attack, decay, sustain, release, simple as that.
I must admit that I like both the style and the technical merits.
It's something of great, I've seen that at the DTV channel... Marvellous 3D image rendering with great OST...
But the think that has really surprised me is:
Everything in 64k!!!
It RULEZ of course!

maybe the best demo i have seen :D
Yeah, just gotta add again that this is really awesome! :)
Voice sample is missing in the dtv video stream though.

Absolutely amazing. I'm at loss for words. This is one of the most wonderful things my video card has ever had the privilege of rendering! And the solid feel of the models and environment is simply breathtaking. There are even vocals! In a 64k! Damn.
IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME
64k demo
Really impressive work. Reed's music fits perfectly. These flames and smokes simply rock.
Impressive work!
Very nice!!! Bullets turn into jet plains!
Amazing water falling.

The music makes me think so much about what Done Davis composed for Matrix Reloaded. Anyway, I like this prod!
nice.
Smash & Reed rocks !
Awesome intro!
Why the voice has been removed by it? Copyright patents? (Or my sound card screwed all up again?)

Defiance: The audio codec is missing in Vista/Seven.
.
Awesome !!!
Killed definitely the 64kb scene.
Killed definitely the 64kb scene.
Really impressive material. Both music and visuals. Also it's rare to have such a flow in 64k.
On the down side, I wasn't so fond of the explosions and round shapes.

what i didnt comment on it yet?
well heres my thumb the rest has been said.

This was sick! jawdropping visuals and the soundtrack... oh-la-la
I like how the set changes without the viewer actually being taken to another set. The fluidity of the scene changes is great. Also, great music.
It's been a long time.. Since I... Cool!
How possible? Sick.
Still the most impressive 64k I've seen. It's hard to believe that such a music (with voice!) can fit in it.
Smash, please do more 64k intros! :)
Smash, please do more 64k intros! :)
It's not really the style of intro I like the most, but I have to admit it's a *MASTERPIECE* of code, gfx and music :)
64k... you are the craftmen. Great efx, gfx, msx...
well, finally i found the resemblance !

good you came away like that !

This one put the bar so f**king high for 64ks.
hArDy: here, the voice sounds like sample compression + additional effects. In Zoom3, it was Windows speech API. This one is much more impressive (not considering release date)!
One of my favourite 64k, soundtrack is great and effects are quite awesome!

Completely crazy; also lolattitude.
Reason for joy!
Simply awesome!
hot visuals and great music. instant thumb up.
Finally my thumb. Cool ideas, excellent music and gfx, simply one of the best 64k ever made.
Heh - never commented on this, as far as I can see :)
Nice.
One of my favorites in the 64K business
ok
Just watched this demo again, really like it. The song gets stuck in my head every time. Smashing!
Fantastic demo! :)
What codec exactly do I need in Win 7 to hear the voice in the song? What is the name of the file? Where can I find it in Vista or XP? I have both OS installed on VMware and would like to copy the codec to Win 7.

Great rendering, great atmosphere.
Fairlight
It never occurred to me before how much this borrows from ASD.
Just rewatched this... interestingly, the voice sample no longer plays (Win10).
To my understanding they don't play in anything Vista or newer. The codec was in XP only, and there's a remark about it in the nfo.
ah, missed that! thanks... at least there's still the capture
wow, it's ten years old now. this beast was way ahead of its time, that's for sure.
really impressive (as you have expected from FLT prods :), and extra plus for clever speechsynth usage (and suffer win7+ bitches :D)
After all those years, I finally figure out which audio codec this thing needs!
This Microsoft website lists all the codecs that windows xp and later versions of windows have by default: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/899113/the-default-codecs-that-are-included-with-windows-media-player-9-and-w
One that almost immediately stands out is: DSP Group True Speech. After a bit of searching on the internet (here https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/a4ecc925-5e65-46fd-a2bd-8ae4d16a07e8/dsp-group-truespeech-codec-install-on-windows-7-pro?forum=w7itpromedia) I found that this page allows you to get the codec http://www.bytescribe.com/downloads/tsp_codec_install.exe
Note: I only tested it on WINE under linux. Under wine, the process is a bit less straightforward. Aside of installing the codec itself, you will also need to edit drive_c/windows/system.ini and add msacm.trspch=tssoft32.acm under [drivers32] so that the codec is known by wine. Note: I didn't test it starting from fresh wineprefix, I also had windows media player 9 installed. Running this 64k thing also requires installing directx using winetrics, and copying gm.dls from a real windows installation from C:/windows/system32/drivers.

the graphic design and music was just spectacular. top demo
Great stuff
BEST 64k piece of code EVER! Period!
I've been trying to run it under windows 10 in all it's glory (with the SPEECH from windows XP engine).
I finally got it working, after installing WinXP_TTS_Voices_v1.3
For those who want to RUN it (not seeing it on Youtube!!!) here is the package with the Windows XP speech voices installer: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zq6plle2okh7h9c/zoom3_v1_02_final.rar
Enjoy!!

Finally, after all these years (and with the help of the above posts) managed to get a correct working version of the codec to hear the rap and view the demo in its full glory! The codec is this one from DSP Group Speech. Tested this on Win10 and worked great, you should try it too! :)
