Great quality! What is the resolution of the scalar field table? Did you use "sweeping" of sphere for the monster?
As for the name, I guess they called it "Sphere tracing" in GPU Gems 2 (Chapter: "The distance-mapping algorithm").
BTW White screen on Vista (until in XP-compatibility mode, guess you have to process win32 messges on Vista).

Works fine on Vista here. Impressive stuff, as always :)

most impressive 4k procedural gfx ever!
Very impressive!
I had a nightmare tonight where she was about to remove my legs. This image is more scary. well done.
Absolutely great! I see it even uses two cores?
Quality!
wow, raising the bar once more... the shader compile times seems familiar ;) but since you have tried the same in both glsl and hlsl, did the [loop] and [branch] attributes (to avoid the massive unrolling) make any difference?
we are not worthy!
MASSIVE!
Lookin' good.
animacija! :D

extrem good! keep 'on!
Pfffff. It sucks.
It only has anti-aliasing on "some parts". ;)

Astounding once again, i bow before your awesomeness.
that's when nobody realize its just a png file download from the internet...
Definitly a new milestone in 4k gfx !!
Definitly a new milestone in 4k gfx !!
iq: so you mean you didn't discretize the volume and sample your function on each step for each ray? How many function computations did you need for that picture? Did you calc distance to the lines to get the tentacles? Also considering "heaviness" of the final function how did you get AO? Did you sample your field in random points (within hemisphere) near the evaluation point? How many samples did you use than? And I'm still surprised it all takes just about 30 seconds for that (or did you use some tricks to decrease the time for this function evaluation?) !!! Thanks for answers ;)
WOW! Awesomeness!
Great work! But please, add progress bar to your future works - calculation takes approximately 50 sec. on my machine, so it is interesting to know, how long I'll have to wait during rendering.
Great!
wow

beauty !
sweet with a bit of sweet ontop
can we find an scene award category for this ?
One of the best 4k procedural thingys I've seen, but it doesn't do anything for me on a superficial level and I don't understand what goes into something like this so just a pig.
Brilliant! Very beautiful results!
I also like the cracks in the walls, I guess, they are randomly placed subtracted spheres.
I miss the ambient occlusion or shadows around the tiles that are misplaced on the floor.

Navis: Best graphics, maybe.
Fantastic.
The best 4k procedural gfx at the time @_@
Sweet. Any chance that you could make the animated version available to the public? I think we are all very interested :)
god damned.. i need to thumb it up again! it's so sweet!!! no go and use it in a 64k intro with animation!
no=now.

OMG!
WOW!
how about adding 'best iq wannabe' category to next scene awards?
iq: many thanks. I've got more questions, will write you soon (also I hope you'll make another great entry on your website for all of us less able ;) ).
rgba shaders gives you the look of a winner!
respect
This is just so incredibly cool and beautiful that I can't find proper words to describe it. It actually looks like hand painted by a graphician. Unbelievable piece of code!
"We have just folded space from Iqs...Many machines on Iqs. New machines."
Holy fucking shit.
wow!
Awesome!. Good work ;)
Mindblowing!
I love the surface of the tentacles. It looks really soft and fluffy. How did you shade that?

iq, just out of curiosity, if you were to remove the real expensive stuff here, or cut it down, how close can you get to real time?
Wow!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase
I dont believe this, respect!... respect!

iq: the newer ati drivers are pretty good regarding the unrolling problems. Now Off The Shelf compiles in 1s (and renders in 4s on my 4850 :D), compared to 20s at release time.
Nice slides from nvscene about this btw.
