a little boring at the beggining, but it gets a lot better then the cocoon trademark rotating things apear.

Great stuff, as usual from Cocoon, even if it was made in a hurry. Morphing heads would have been nice.
impressive models and nice soundtrack. but its a bit boring
so eye&ear-candy!
if i close my eyes i still see everything in the caca-palette :PP
nice stuff tho, especially the stuff happening during/after the topright-scene from the screenshot..

The beginning is way too boring. Flying around sub-par ruin models simply just doesn't cut it. And then there's the feeling of emptiness I just can't ger rid of when watching. Maybe it's something related to the Uncanny Valley - your models try to be realistic but then nothing happens except from a camera that moves without any real goal.
Then again, Willbe's musical mastery and the second part where it all gains speed and goes steampunk (random quote when a colleague entered my room while I was watching: "Of course. In the future EVERYONE uses old film." :) are very likeable. Just.. how about some more concept work next time?

Not really my cup of tea.. Next time use other palette than the 'brown' 3d scenes..
Looks like a nice game though if it was playable ;-) Thumb anyway..

Solid and nice.
the music carries this one, the visuals dont really keep up :(
not the best cocoon demo.
the music is really nice.
the music is really nice.
I like the visuals and the sounds. Good one.
Thumb up for the part after and including the pyramid shaped objects.
The models seem to be a bit low-poly sometimes and the beefed-up quake colour scheme(tm) and the seemingly disjoined speech part in the middle could be done away with.
I like the speech part. C'est prometeur et c'est vide!
good.
Loved this one... Nice Music, very entertaining :)
The ending saved it.
After the first scene (ruins) I tought I'd thumb this down. Fortunately the rest is great and I really liked the music. :)
Best modelling as always, very good music too and timing of scenes. It gets better from the middle onwards.
Minor issues apart, this is entertaining enough, although not the best in the compo.

yep, again so much detail and quality in every area, smooth as hell, i love your choice of subject matter aswell and the art and music captures that mood perfectly and creates a great atmosphere :)
Ok demo, however some of the ruin scenes almost ruins (haha hoho hehe) the demo in the beginning. It gets better as it gets a bit more angry towards the end :)
A thumb up - but I think you've done far better and can do far better!

Most of the time it looks like a bad amiga demo...
Modelling is partly very good, on the other hand sometimes really sub-standard. Music is good.

Borrowing what I wrote on the compo BBS topic: This is very groovy, has excellent music and a really nice flow and a weird and interesting concept, not to mention an unified theme, behind it. Also, it reminds me a lot of some demos (Significant Deformation Near the Cranium, as well as old French flybys), which brings back memories.
The second part really makes the demo. Magical Nazca Indian technology ftw!

wont load for me :( sceenshots look nice tho
Nice theme supported by excellent music, 3D and flow. Had to watch it in 640x400 without anti-aliasing though :). Good stuff for a rushed job.
great job!
as has been mentioned several times, the first few scenes do more harm than good, but the second half saves it. does seem rushed in a few places though - guess you didn't have enough time for your trademark polish :). no matter, it definitely gets a rulez.
first moments were a bit dull and unpleasant to watch (blurry textures..).
becomes better (really good) as time passes by.

as already said, the first half could be better. but the second half really kicks ass
First demo by you guys I liked! this is great!
it doesnt look like a game \o/

cocoon focking the desert!
not the best cocoon demo (that is of course coma ;) but very appealing nevertheless.

Motion blur is a fad!
But it was nice motion blur. :) The beginning was meh, but the rest was nice.
But it was nice motion blur. :) The beginning was meh, but the rest was nice.
This is a nicely done production, with some good 3d scenes in it, and some new features in the engine I believe. But still it feels a little too much like an engine preview I think.
Of the usual high quality... makes for a fine trilogy with "Clouds" and "Shad3"!
I do like this very much, very clever too. I like the fact it starts off old tech then works to new tech, (also evident in modelling and textures and stuff.) Kinda like the Incas were supposed to have been a technologically advanced race, but never showed it on the outside, (sounds good, mind.) ;)
imho i think this is one winner!
There's still some boring parts to watch (especially the intro), but the overall demo is really entertaining! (A lot more than Shad3 imo)
Cocoon rulez!
Cocoon rulez!
This is so cooool! As with most Cocoon demos, the hard work really shows and the result is outstanding!
Some very nice scenes, I'll agree with some people it's a bit boring at the beginning but the fact the soundtrack is well synchronized helps to stay in front of the screen.
An overall nice demo, not my cup of tea but definitly deserves its thumb up!

it will not run for me, i get an eternal loading screen :O
i watched the vid now, absolutely outstanding soundtrack and not too many flybys
bk237: same here. I was hoping to get a few pointers from the Cocoon-squad to help me get it running.
But I guess they must want a thumb-down for poor "customer service" :)))))

nice!!
the visual is hard work indeed and looks good looking.
and great trax.
anyway great demo!

Great dark stuff. Loved the cube scene!
Oh guys, when you have static models that look this good, why not throw in some effects as well?! We know you can do it! :) The music was great (real drive behind it, the drums I suspect) but it had a very "dry" sound which I didn't like that much. The models and textures as great as always but I didn't really get any "wow" from the visuals themselves. I did enjoy the tiny bit if kinetic typography that was in there as well. :) A really solid prod, but just too dull for my taste (effects damnit! effects!! :) -- but a thumbs up for sure!
I digged the coherent design as well as the music - the "dry" sound Gloom was referring to struck me as refreshing. The speech and translation bit was a nice idea as well. The scenes near the end did look good to me, for a flyby. Too bad many others didn't.
All in all this was vastly better than Shad 3, but yeah, throw in some effects already :)

what kb_ said. and what break said.
reminded me of "5th element". better than shad3. nice work!
funky! love how nytrik always succeeds so well at making things look big. excellent ride!
The sync'd effects and music are nice, although as many people have already said the beginning was a bit boring.. All in all I found it really entertaining.
btw i disagree on the boring beginning issue; first off i think it works well with the buildup and second it's slightly like a ride through the ages - we start with what's basically "moai 2" and then gradually build up to something more smashing and modern :)
Absolutely GREAT! You damn cocoonies stole my nazca-idea :) You should have dedicate this to Dr. Maria Reiche but it extremly rocks anyway! Big up!
Still worth thumbing up.
This is what i call an announcement !
cant wait to see cocoons BP2009-Entry !
Nazca : you did nothing wrong this time ! I F*#*in love it,dudes ! ( @Willbe : as always a fresh tune from ya,but not as good as previous ones ;) still like it very much ! )
now get back into Effect-Coding and you´ll really WIN that BP !

cool one :D
A lot better than Shad3 IMHO.
I think this demo is inspired by :
- mankind (egypt) demo,
- mfx
- la Porte de l'Enfer. Maybe by rodin
am i right ? :)

very funny answer, lol executable :) you make my day
Rulez, rulez!!! Will appear on DemoScena #3 next month!
fapfapfap!
Not really my taste, and it would have been much better with decent shadows. But thumb up anyway, because it's still pretty good, and I can appreciate the good quality work in there.
Was worried this wouldn't work on ATI in vista as cocoon's demos have been difficult in the past, but it works fine. Good music, kinda dull palette but entertaining gfx.
Quite nice. Cocoon demos may not be totally my flavour, but I can certainly appreciate the direction and skill, and Willbe always does fantastic soundtracks.
Great
simply KICK AZZ
style, theme, effects, 3d, camera, sync - everything is good here, music is not my style, but it fits too

Too much boring flyby parts. Still, very well executed and the music saves a lot.
Object show / flyby, but some parts look nice nevertheless
Good music. The beginning was very Cranium, but then it got a bit more boring and less coherent designwise.
high quality flyby, but not my cup of tea.
music is rather dull (to my ears at least).
music is rather dull (to my ears at least).
This is by far my favorite of the compo. It got me into it with some things that the others were lacking for me -- Some chosen theme, dared to have some clear meaning, some flashes of style that worked, and the end part got me into the rhythm. Actually, the end part is what did it. The build up worked for me and it took me by surprise.
Also, like proteque, this is the first cocoon demo that I recall liking.

horrible camera animation and angles in the first part.
but when those mechanical things started to appear...
but when those mechanical things started to appear...
few nice design elements, other than that a boring 3d-flyby. should give it a another try later though.
Really enjoyed this one!
Having been to the nazca site recently, I won't be able to like the demo.. Too jarringly disconnected from the title, and the beautiful designs I saw in peru.
Pretty cool. I especially like the middle part after the doors open, the music during that bit was awesome.
music
3D machines, rotating
decaying ambient color and overlay effect

I agree with SoLo2
Reminds me a bit of the above.
Aztec (or was it inka or maya?) techno. Not sure if I connect breakbeats to this look in any way, but everything looks and sounds really good so who cares. Ace motionblur!
what year is this? 2008? from the very idea to the flyby realisation, this has 1998 written all over it. i'm sorry to sound harsh (and i still respect the effort made), but there are a lot of excellent examples (also in this very competition) that demos have far evolved from this kind of productions in the last ten years.
Not the best but very nice, and it's french. =)
loaderror: Not Aztec nor Inca... Nazca (it's also the name of the culture and the people who made the geoglyphs).
Ay
Beginning wasn't that great, got better afterwards as said with good models and nice effects, though it was a bit too flybyish for me. Music did its job, and the technomaya theme was cool!
What Solo2 said. Plus: my deepest thanks for the greetings, i love you. Cocoon is amour.
nytrik, well that's basically it.. I may be shallow, but the title brought expectations, and they weren't fulfilled. So I felt let down, in a way. You'll probably say I'm being unreasonable.. It's just.. ruins with western type of architectures in a demo called nazca.. That's ugly, no matter how well made the ruins are "out of context"
Likewise with the mishmash of random cliparts that come from whole different civilizations. That kind of kills the vibe in a big way.

Very good visuals, but the music is numb which makes the demo abit boring for me.
Some info about the Nazca culture
thematically reminding me of oxygene's cuzco??!?
impressive visuals (3d), but the demo does not climax
impressive visuals (3d), but the demo does not climax
awesome soundtrack. most atmospheric at the compo. usually i don't like cocoon's 3d-senseless-flybyes but not this time :)
does not work on P4 640, 8600 GT & Xp sp3 :(
good work, but a bit messy ;)
the start was a bit too "cocoonish" with your regular static 3d scenes with "unrelated" (in terms of sync and dynamics) 2d-overlays. But towards the end things got really good looking, and the last tunnel-part simply rocked! more of that please
i missed some allusions to "nascar" ;)
too much fly-byes, without any visual graduation, music sounds promising but scenes look like they have been hacked together in a real hurry.
so-so thumb up and namevoting from me today....
so-so thumb up and namevoting from me today....
too hard, too same, too old, too shit..
i only see a camera flyby around some textured 3d scenes but no demo...
I like it!
caca
_-_-_ has a point that you`d expect different architecture, atleast something maya/meso-themed, but then again this work doesnt claim to be stylistically or historically accurate
still funny how many people are allergic to "hand-made" 3d meshes - it cant be demo, unless its pure math!

the last part fucking ruled! aaaaawwww!
for the tunnel !
Doesn't load :-/
looks like beautiful, but boring, flyby
Don't really like the first part with the ruins : the scenes look empty. But the part following the lyrics is pretty cunning.
The white ribbons escaping the glowing ball should have been synched with the buzzing tone at 1"39. They go ~2' too early :p

piggie for now.
whoaa, definitely a demo i like! took ages to load, but looks splendid!

it also worked with 1,5 GB of ram and an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ :)
not the best, but deserves thumb up.
The end really saves this one. Outdoor scenes look boring, indoor stuff is great.
Veeeeeeeeeeery nice! Awesome effects.
Well executed
nice code effects and music thumb up

end of French'glish :)

Not bad.
Long load time, but I liked the demo overall. Like others have said, the demo really is best towards the end.
good design
nice flyby
Like the setting at Nazca lines very much but it's just too fly-by'ish. Also the music is ok, but i expected something more from willbe. Piggy.
Call me crazy, but I like a good 3D flyby every now and then. I think that it was used judiciously in the prod to introduce the theme. The music was really groovy and fit the theme perfectly (the best in the compo IMO). Definitely my favority Cocoon stuff to date!
... isn't it only about 3D flyby's on the PC platform anyway?
The scenes in the beginning look more empty than impressive, but towards the end the quality is great, although I miss the character animation from shad 3. Unfortunately the demo reminds too much of shad 3 without reaching its heights, so it feels like a bit of a disappointment, despite being really good
ltk_tscc, watch the bp08-demos again, kthx.
Flybye, but with great 3d detail and beautiful textures, enjoyed it especially in a friend with a big screen and good 3d card. Has some nice sync/surprises especially at the end.
Has all the Cocoon trademarks (faces staring out of the stone, rotating tunnels), but that doesn't mean it's not a hell of a show at the same time. Clever typography, too (Willbe?). Solid work, and I did fancy this more than most of the late Cocoon demos.
nothing special - music isn´t my taste
cp: why, they bored me to death ;)
as already all said. nice developement in this one. and one of the few ones that has fitting music. (thanx willbe) especially from the moment of the second pic 01:42 min here. :) gratulation aux francais aussi les deux guillaume :D

yup... anyway its a great demo
ltk_tscc, there are people on pouet who are much better at trolling, maybe you can learn from them.
cp: I'm not trolling... just accept that masagin did not kick me in any way... and there's no reason for attacking me here.
i accept personal opinions about prods. but you have to accept that you will be attacked for talking nonsense ("itz all nuthin' but 3d-flybyz, lolz!!11") that is obviously wrong and very troll'ish.
the term "flyby" is probably the most stupid categorisation the demoscene ever came up with. It's not only disrespectful in every possible way towards ANY modeller out there, but it simply misses the point completely. I prefer a good "flyby" to any other type of sub-par demo. And that's what it's all about, isn't it? It's about the overall quality IMO. And Nazca is a great DEMO in my book. Period.
Respect to everyone involved.

Very stylish.
Very good.
i like the ending part, overall niiice!
rulez hard...
very groovy however here are some remarks for what they're worth
1) i would love to run a cocoon demo on my computer when it is released once in my life, not four years after :p
2) at first, i felt disappointed because no matter the quality of the modeling, i just had this "oh, head faces coming out of walls or metal" deja vu feeling
3) white flashes overuse, especially when there is the spinning cube if i remember correctly
4) i felt like the french audio sample was unrelated to anything (or there is something i didn't get)
nytrik > btw, weren't you already working on this "spinning cylindric thingy" at bp06 ?
anyway, in the end a really great demo, congratulations

Almost with no blood this time! bravo, Cocoon! :)
cocoon!
Sometimes u can't imagine the work done.
I was around sure that Nytrik was an infographist in real life, i heard i was wrong , anyway this direction is equal to video games introduction, watch it.

i've enjoyed it much much more than thrid shad.
Credits section onwards was nice, prior to that i was bored :(
By the hammer of thor
Nice one! Impressive 3d models, and good music. The translating "subtitles" looked a bit cheap, though.
Good shitt.. but it was a bit long!
i've been missing some clean design concept
do you know that NAZCA is the devteam who made the original Metal Slug cult game, amazing isn't it?
and do you know that pouet is the wrong place for your nerdy game talk?
obviously not
... great demo
obviously not
... great demo
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pretty cool, altho a bit too static for my likings
Well, I suppose it's ok. The music was definately the best bit for me.
I think the demo starts a bit on the weak side, but once you walk through those big doors, it gets better and better.
Still, nothing REALLY amazing, but certainly a decent production.

wow. a cocoon demo I enjoyed :) stay on this track and don´t make demos that looks like games. Big step up :)
thumb for the last part, regarding both visuals and music.
I like the gold shower....errr...I mean gold power.
Phat1!
I just love it.
Let's say it's Guille' style ;). You can't say this prod suck. It's technicaly awesome with neat gfx and 3D but it lacks a bit of "spice", direction and design. I particularly liked the music from Willbe and the part about computer graphics :p
quite ok
best demo of 2008 imho.
kickass
love it, you guys are amazing

Superb realization of interesting concept.
the french vocal + english text part is so cool
very nice parts on it, even if the beginning i dont like so much
What TomS4wy3R said.
A solid Cocoon prod! Great visuals, I also enjoyed the typography.
At first, you can think it's an average demo, but the 2nd part is waaaaay better than the beginning :)
Nothing else like it!
Swinging bass!
forgot to thumb
boring and soulless music
left me cold. music is not my cup of tea too. piggie because some scenes are quite nice looking.
great music. massive in many aspects.
This demo is all over the place stylewise but here's a thumb for the nice models.
soundtrack was cheesy at places, but over-all the demo is good
