Feels very much like an early 90's Amiga demo. Nostalgia. :-)

Again, those old rivals with their dtv. :-)
But the demo is very nice, good work.

worked like a charm on the bigscreen and the modplayer is kick ass! ;) SCHEISSE!

You know what? Fuck you.

Seriously. Fuck you. After the first two minutes, I was thinking of which of my CDCs I would give to this. And then what happened? All those beautiful graphics, the whole atmosphere, you turned it into a boring demo with so bat-shit inane texts that they ruined the entire fucking thing, and then it got even worse. Kubrick's 2001 end part had so much feeling and potential, and then it came to this?

Sorry for the tone of this, but I feel like getting the winning numbers in the lottery only to find that the coupon was for last week.
added on the 2008-02-25 20:30:16 by Preacher Preacher
yes the texts ruined quite much indeed. you could at least have your english checked!

anyway, the demo is very moody (eventhough the mood gets spoiled as preacher said above). the music by linus is excellent all the way though!

first half was all really boring, then some fx, the music must have been quite some effort so respect for that, and the mod player gets this up to a thumb for me.
added on the 2008-02-25 20:54:32 by keito keito
i think it rocks. all musics including the mod were great and i especially like the intro-part. i also bet the loader is pretty cool.

Shame that VicePlus won't run this. :(
I was going to give a piggue due to being too long and boring for my taste, but the excellent modmusic during the endpart convinced me otherwise.

the msx was a bit too noisy in parts..
totally cool oldschoole usage! ;D

In spite of the quite disturbing texts during the first part of the production I can't keep myself from leaving an Überthumb for the effort and especially the nice interpretations of Pink Floyd's Echoes and JMJ's Zoolookologie.

Oh screw it, here's your thumb. It's a fucking awesome demo nevertheless.

The intro is the best. Kinda have to agree with Preacher even though I didn't mind much the change of atmosphere.
rulez added on the 2008-02-25 23:06:03 by Optimus Optimus
Yes, it would probably have a stronger impact on me without the strange texts. But very cool, nonetheless!

thumbed for the platform alone, bonus points for sound.
rulez added on the 2008-02-25 23:26:18 by noouch noouch
I feel strongly motivated to place my thumb in the up position. Even the texts which some people hated, added to the charm of the production, lovely retro atmosphere.

planet views, spaceships and 3D objects (satellittes),
music,
tunnel effect, 2x concentric circles moving around and zooming in,
voxel effect of the Jupiter surface,
greetings with excellent isometric scroller a la "zaxxon" and spaceship sprite,
end part text font and 4 channels mod music
rulez added on the 2008-02-26 03:28:13 by BITS BITS
F*n A.
The end-part was great, but I must say that the demo as a whole was boring as hell, and most parts weren't really that impressive. So, piggie it is
added on the 2008-02-26 05:40:37 by britelite britelite
I'm quite sure the texts were silly on purpose, this being a tribute to "Odyssey" and all. IIRC the texts we're rather engrishy on that demo.

Otherwise, great demo. Early 90's amiga-ish style.

I do understand why everybody is so fond of this demo, since it's basically ripping and recycling from old stuff (music + graphics). Daft Punk did it before in another style, and it worked.
But screwing the slitscan sequence with the original textures ?! Gosh ! Good old Trumbull must be spinning in his grave. And it's not even about the code, it's about how to TILE the textures... You could have done it so much better, but you blew it. Next time, just watch the original sequence and try to find the proper U,V coordinates and scrolling speed...
Plus, crediting the guy who did the reverse engineering of the textures would have been more ethical. :(

nice.. .ever heard about frameskipping ? ;)
hm ok reusing music and font isn't very nice...
also the greetingspart is dead boring...

sorry you aren't rivals youre more the rulers on this kinda hardware.. however you can see that this is made in over half a year..
rulez added on the 2008-02-26 12:18:16 by mad mad
Sadly altho that this demo is without a doubt an excellent piece of code reverse engineering the dtv hardware on the fly it is at times just too plain boring to survive without being slipped into a coma.

Thumb for the modplayer tho...

the beginning of the demo is nice and I somehow love the "drunk tunnel" :) The voxel doesn't look too good on the other hand. Greetings part is cool and so is the music. Not a masterpiece but nice demo anyway.

It's a tough call, some nice ideas + music, but I felt it was overly long, especially the first part. Nevertheless, it deserves a thumb for the effort invested.

I saw it at the breakpoint. At the real thing it looks really good. Just awesome that this "next generation C64" has been put into a joystick for marketing reasons. however, on a real 1084 it looks and sounds great.
rulez added on the 2008-03-22 13:04:33 by twh twh
I have to disagree with Preacher - sure it's not as serious as the Kubrick sequence, but I don't think it ever meant to be that... It's still the C64 vibe that prevails in this one.
