Very polished and I love the fisheye end scene

Way too much flyby, ASD and funny vocals for my taste. But I did enjoy the time-reversing syncs and the final Lifeforce / Media Error -scene :)

Pleasant, and "fancy" music :).

Fully deserves a thumb up.
Just some notes: Some objects are really nice (at the beginning) while others seem a little strange/random and also move in peculiar ways (e.g. the bat-like objects at the end). I really like the soundtrack, too, thogh the guitar-solo and the orchestral-part sound a bit synthetic. Anyway, nice melody and viariation!

For me it looked like a mess and not polished at all. The last scene was interesting, the rest not. A piggie.

I liked this prod. Very much. Norway has some great active demo groups today. Portal Proces, Andromeda, Outtracks and now PlayPsyCo.

The red heart almost at the end is to much borrowed from LifeForce perhaps..
I liked the scee with the train and chopper at the end very much..

I wonder if PlayPsyCo make there next demo even better and advanced than this one..

Thumb!

nice prod indeed : cool 3d ( specular maps would truly improve the final result ) but i really wonder how the hell one can come up with such ideas without being on drugs .

clear winner! :) pretty massive effort, and the music was really good (mad props to kaktusen :) one thing i don't like is seeing polys, so that could have been touched up a bit, and also the content was a bit too (play)psychodelic for my usual taste, but still; GREAT STUFF!

the music is ace. too bad someone decided to add some singing to it (despite the good voice it kind of ruins it). the code and visuals goes up and down - some parts are wonderful and some butt ugly. i really liked the boxes, the greetings and the b/w effect.

Nice. A bit rough at some points but a solid production overall.

The music would have been better without voice.

Good opening scene, and some nice things throughout. Decent effort is evident, even if it doesn't really hit home all the time. The music is also well made, except for when the vocals come in. Then I just want the guy to swallow his tongue.
added on the 2007-11-18 14:22:48 by Archmage Archmage
An attempt to catch the style of ASD, but it fails. The constant flow is missing, the music did absolutely nothing for me. What really made it is the last scene with the fisheye view. Overall it's technically and optically impressive and you have my full respect for the workload you put into, but it fails in telling the epic story it wants to tell.

decent modelling and well produced soundtrack.
horrible second scene (ugly 2d tails, clipping issues, wrong pace, too tight space, bad camera direction)
completly uninspired rest of demo despite a couple of good scenes.
dont copy effects / scenes or styles unless you do them better, its a basic ground rule..

some nice gfx and effects, and soundtrack is good. However, things obviously doesn't fit together. At times, things look very messy and inconsistent, and when the soundtrack tries to create some space and awe, the visuals simply aren't coping. However, nice to see new high-end demos in the off-season. And thumb up for being Norwegian :)

A weak thumb up. Music was ok, luckily there wasn't too much singing so it didn't manage to ruin the tune. Some nice scenes, some not so nice. Didn't impress me too much but was ok to watch anyway.

chromag: demosceners can't stand people singing regardless of quality, that's a sad but at least somewhat interesting fact of life. Must be some child trauma or something, or perhaps it has to do with this.

As for the demo it's a pigface. Nice effort, but too disjointed, too wannabe-ASD and the soundtrack seriously lacked any coherence (that's probably why the singing fells so out of place. A few dB less wouldn't have hurt either.)

techwise pretty good, but still manages to suck. Cameras are bad, music is lame, "horror theme" (eyballs, bats, heart etc) is so lame it's almost funny. A little post-processing wouldn't hurt either, rendering is way too clean.

This is.. strange. On the other hand it's kind of like ASD without the sophistication and the magic, but on the other hand it's, despite some rough edges, quite an accomplished show in itself.

I kind of agree with sauli about the rendering thing.. it should be a bit rougher (add some noise or something), and the music should decide whether it's ambient vocal rock (which would've been cool) or then this electronic beat thing.

In the end, I really like the "weirdness", the strange perspective projection thing in the end, and the fact that it made me say "wtf". So thumbs up.
rulez added on the 2007-11-19 09:12:08 by Preacher Preacher
The things that ticked me off in this demo are obviously the singing. Don't get me wrong, the guy has a very cool voice but I think his voice is out of context with the soundtrack.. which by the way I really like. The lyrics also look like they were thrown together in the last minute..

Then.. the bats at the end remind me of Cylon raiders =)

Other than that, I really enjoyed the demo and the atmosphere it created. I did indeed smile at various elements and ideas that we've used on our demos, some of which were done better in this (like the tube lights).

I'll definately keep this in my list of "demos I wanna watch when I sit back and relax".

A solid demo, compared to the average level of demos being released these days.

Comparing all demos to ASD demos would generally result in a lot of thumbs down on pouet. Things can still be good even if they aren't the best demos ever released :)

slow motion?? music??? filters???? wtf. i don't find anything common with asd in this prod.
and i don't think that navis was the first person on the demoscene who did that kind of things either.

about the prod - there's a lot of work behind the messy results.
i really doesn't get it - how one could spend a lot of time drawing textures and tweaking fx and didn't pay a little attention to camera and unwanted colors. a couple of hours working on that, and the demo would be 5 times bettes... final version, may be?

thumb for the work anyway.

And thanks for all the feedback. Yes! Even the negative feedback :)

A small note on the "obvious" lifeforce/ASD heart ripoff. We were supposed to release this demo at The Gathering during easter. And,.. Yes,.. The hearts was there in April :)
But somehow somehow fixing ATI support (and few other tweaks) for Mupé took most of my time.

The effort is there, but the result is somewhat unpolished and messy. Parts of the artwork are really great (ornament textures, fishy animations), others seem like last decade or out of place (those yellow light cones, the "rainbow-weeds", polycount...)
Nice for a first watch, but not enough for a keeper I think.

music reminds a lot of BT's style on the "this binary universe" album - especially the transitions with the stutter-effect. visuals are decent but tend to freeze for a millisecond occasionally for no apparent reason. furthermore the black bars are pretty superflous on a 16:10 aspect panel which is crying for 1920x1200 anyways.

I like the Giger bumpmaps and this strange world in here. I don't really get that underwater feeling 100% so I'm thinking that it is some sort of vacuum "aquarium" instead. Lots of stuff happening all the time so the show never gets boring. I love the last scene for that weird sense of scale it has. A giant heart and small trains and huge bats? Wtf? But it is cool :) Also I wish the projection was on the entire demo..

The music is cool, but it is all over the place too which makes it very hard to make visuals for I think. It is a bit like music for the sake of music. Sounds like Kaktusen is in some transition phase in his music making.

In my perfect world there would be more Giger bumpmaps, darkness and an overall atmosphere of cold unbreakable doom! That might be just me though :)

So its a piggy though I somehow would want to put a thumb up... but there are elements in this prod that make me piggy.
Gah. I felt in love.

OK this may be biased because parts of the demo appeared super-dark for me, but the whole thing looked a bit slapdash. The effects don't link together very well, and in a demo like this flow is paramount.

I'm getting a strong vibe that this is the kind of thing that would be found on the cutting-room floor at ASD. Also that city scene with the fish-eye? FLT's "Media Error" set the bar for fish-eye lens + city + helicopters, and this doesn't measure up.

PlayPsyCo put a lot of energy into big, ambitious demos with loads of arty textures and models and equal amounts of bloom to cover up where the textures/models look stale. I think you guys should do something more compact and better planned, because frankly it looks like you had a ton of ideas and then a nightmare making them all fit together here.

So I gotta thumb this down just because it's doing something that's been done before worse than it was done before, and it's totally shameless about it. Sorry.

weak thumb up, just because of music.

The demo started out like a dream, but then it got messy. The demo has a strong concept, but there are too many rough edges to be really effective. I had to watch it twice, though, so it's definitely a top-tier production. Also, the music was awesome.

Lovley demo. Some nice objects and good music. Take a deep breast!

I luckily didn't notice the ASD-feel - great stuff :)

If any of you experienced the same crash problem on ATI cards that Gargaj reported earlier. It's now fixed!

A huge thank you to Gargaj for finding the offending GLSL line and helping with a fix.

Also a huge up-yours to ATI^H^H^HAMD for it's not so capable GLSL compiler.

Did anyone mention ASD yet? Har har... well anyways, a weak thumb up.

Mixed bag. Some parts looked extremely polished and nice, but sometimes textures and normal maps are visibly low-resolution and look pretty ugly. Same for the music; the track itself is pretty nice, but the vocals don't work.

Awesome music! I love the hints of BT's Binary Universe album in there, and good job on the vocals too, they fit really well. Thumbs up just for that.

I really should not have passed out from being tired before this was on, cuz the music owns.

went from interesting to downright bad at the end. Basically the last scene is probably one of the worst ideas put into a demo ever. There is a horrible, utterly horrible fish-eye lens, a tron motorbike, a weird city upon a city, a heart, some doors, some helicopters, some bats and a dude singing (!?!)

The weakest demo so far from playpsyco, a group that is actually very technically proficient and have delivered some impressive demos in the past ( contr jous, camden town etc).

Great soundtrack, that somehow has absolutely nothing to do with the somehow uninspired visuals... still a thumb up.

Another ASM.TV watcher tuning in. ;)

Anyway, it's really, really weird. Not mfx-weird, more like incomprehensible "what were they thinking?" weird. Piggy for now...

Exactly what xernobyl said, except that the growing stuff with the reverse sync scene was pretty cool.

Another great demo I forgot to comment. The textures and design is lacking a little, but the modelling is excellent and I really demos like this that take me on a little ride into the artist's imagination.

I really liked the soundtrack too, even the vocals!

lovely shading and shadows, moody music, both of which unfortunately take a bit of a nose dive on the 2nd half, should've just stayed ambient
