The rendering technique is indeed very well and original. Also, the music score fits right in. However, the bird movement could improve alot and it's rather short.

As most other has pointed out, the renderer here is -very- nice. The renderer kinda makes the whole thing work. If you watched this by the ASMTV broadcast, be sure to grab it and see it local instead, its a whole new experience.
thumb up for the excellent rendering idea ... pity that they didn't explore using it on more abstract scenes.

Nice to see a NPR technique other than cartoon rendering. It does flicker a bit too much for my taste, but still thumbs up for something innovatie that looks nice atleast (not like all those other 'innovative' demos with random garbled crap graphcis that some individuals seem to like)
something that completly killed it for me was the mechanical way that bird was moving its wings... and the way it didn't stop once it was on the tree

Very nice Non-Photorealistic Rendering in this one, haven't seen painting-like rendering in realtime before... It flickers a lot but In overall it gives a nice feeling, maybe the camera should have minimum movement in order for this technique to look better.

I know,that frame to frame coherence is difficult to acheive with NPR rendering, the 'dots' slightly evolve over the time (in contrast with fr010 by scoopex+elitegroup i.e).

This is an awesome oil painting effect, and I love the background music. It's a shame this prod only placed 5th.
With this demo Yodel once again prove that they know design. And good code. And good music. Damn, this demo is good. The Swedes rock!
This production is entierly made at Asm (in 30h). We wanted to give you more content but there simply wasn't time.. maybe it's a waste of a good rendering engine.. but that just forces us to come up with something new for next year...
maybe you should try making something for other parties

Original output, looking like a painting, but it was really nice and beautifull the first time I watched it (I don't know how it will look now for a second time though) and I beleive it deserves a thumb from me!

I think the slow pace fits a painting-like demo, and it wasn't that long. The music on the other hand wasn't really up to par with the rest of the demo. I hope that yodel does something even better with this engine before the copycats get to work. =)

nice idea. I think the demo itself is a bit too slow and not really interesting. Very good music, although "acoustic" midi wavetables doesn't quite fall into my taste (i wouldn't expect you to hire an orchestra, so thumbs up for that too) :)

I've been looking for a classical-music demo, and this is much better than the Nextempire stuff. It's a lovely break from the Techno-Ambient stuff most prods have.

The rendering was very unique and just gorgeous. The music fit it very very well, but I must say as an orchestral piece it felt very amateur-ish...I loved though when the drums came in at the end (no matter how lo-fi they were)...all in all a fantastic prod from 2002 :)

The rendering technique (oscillating ellipsis, probably no bugs but rendering artifacts) is very innovative and deserves a thumb up alone.

This might not be the case, but I have a strong feeling that the unique rendering was chosen partly to cover up for the modeling and the animation—or the lack thereof. Take the rendering out, and you'll be left with a 3-minute fly-by of three empty scenes. That said, I have nothing against banking on the kitsch value per se, but I'm not convinced that in this case there was enough of it to elevate the content.
