:D
This is retro done right! The Tetris-scroller and the 3d-sprites are lovely, like the music, too. Had some small hitches in the framerate, otherwise great work!!!
SWEEEEEET
Not the best demo of the same theme but quite enjoyable ;)
Hehe.. Cute, nice hommage :)
powerstern!
Sweet, some cool ideas too!
very nice idea :)
my favorite ! very nice done!
YES :D rocks
Liked it! The tetris scroller pwnz!
Insert Coins done right? :)
that was cool :)
lovely and fresh, more of these stuff please!
thumb up for the tetris scroller alone, creativity just flows!
yay! enjoyed it :)
love the tune
kann man machen.
cute
tetris-scroller \o/
Very nice, please release the soundtrack.
Very nice prod. Saw it yesterday on the demoscene.tv stream. Like CJ said, please release the soundtrack.
beautifull execution of a worn out idea.
Great direction, and really cool greetings...
Great. The Tetris part especially.
The Worm!
cute and well done
Nicely done! No uberdemo but I hope it will win the compo, given the other competition.
cool and innovative
A beauty! So much unlike L.M.S.
Wow! I really liked this one!!!
very original; love the credits. Some great physics.
this is such a crowd pleaser... it is way too cheesy for me but the tetris part and the music saves it from a thumb down...
Pixelized game characters always hit the sweet spot.
I'd much prefer a 16bit Wonderland, but this was a pretty cool demo.
Nice one. Sweet ideas. I don't like the textures in some places though...
Cute! :)
No outstanding design and gfx but still a nice demo. And it features the ultimate tetris-scroller! Yay! :D
very lovely and happy-go-lucky, especially the tetris scroller.
very cool
wow, demo speaks for itself! Best retro-soul demo ever!
Nice stuff!
Kenet: I guess we will have to rework our star idea now, it got somewhat spoiled by this one :)))
Kenet: I guess we will have to rework our star idea now, it got somewhat spoiled by this one :)))
This one got soul :) and the music is damn good, where can i get the tune? :D
Nice 8 bit happy hardcore soundtrack and tetris scroller.
ok
Absolutely brilliant show!
Nice, but not outstanding.
excellent feel-good prod! kakiarts keep on trucking =)
Like it a lot!
Amazing how much you can get with less. Nice one, Congrats :)
yawn
Great one!
Frankly some parts looks really too ugly.
-s
very cute
cute :)
great music and rockin' tetris scroller, but Hitchhikr says the truth. Some really ugly parts in there. Not the best demo from Evoke!
Sweety but imho some parts look very ugly (eg. the red car part)
not as gay as orb :)
YEAH! - LEGO trees rewls! :D
wonderful O_O--b
hmmm...
the greetings part was nice
I love it !
for a couple of years we had a storyboard which contained half of the scenes from this piece of pixelized happiness.
damn, another project gone to trash. =)
damn, another project gone to trash. =)
a nice tetris scroller does not make a number one demo. (especially if the rest is ugly as sh*t.)
unterschichtendemo, das!
unterschichtendemo, das!
quite nice, but nothing more.
should've ranked lower.
should've ranked lower.
scene-nostalgia strikes again. nice scroller though ;)
Tetris scroller rocked, the rest was boring to be honest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkwR_iWJXE4
Tetris Scroller + Rest = Piggy
cute.
liked the tetris scroller, but the stuff with trees/green grass didn't look all that great.
Really great music, but the Tetris scroller was really the only visually appealing thing. Thumbs up since it's still damn good!
it's a crowd pleaser... and it pleased me :)
nice and cute. first really solid kakiarts demo i have memory of.
Argh. Some scenes are just too lame! Especially credits suck ass.
Still quite enjoyable.
Must...not...thumb...up...
Still quite enjoyable.
Must...not...thumb...up...
This one is really great (i like the tetris scroller) and was worth the 1st place!
LUTSCH MEIN STERN.!!!
...nice one...the Snake´s Dead is a YAY.!!!!
...and i´d like to point-out that its working on nearly every machine.!!! that alone is a Thumb for me.!!

sorry but no...i bet scan photos of c64 helps a lot. no decent mapping no apha sorting on particles... i m probably too inflenced by video games created in this decade (compared to 8 bits stuff)
it's quite nice but it feels quite empty and some scenes (like the credits) are on B-Demo level.
Nice ideas, the tetris scroller was indeed quite nice, but that's about it..
I would have expected much more for a winner demo.
I would have expected much more for a winner demo.
Thumb up for the scroller
what voxel said..
Nostalgic touch. Funny graphics. Low-end requirements. Good code ideas, nicely achieved. It's a good demo. Piggy face though, because the overall design could have been a bit better.
way to short!
I'm a sucker for this kind of retro crap, really loved the music and general direction/style.. but honestly, I don't think it should have gotten 1st.
Ugly, horrible and argh. The idea for greetings part was ok.
This 8bit gimmick is even more played out than Chuck Norris and McGyver combined and some scenes are poorly done, but it's too cute and happy for a thumb down :)
the tetris scroller was nice.. the rest was just cliché retrowanking.
It's amazing to see how well it works to just deeply press the nostalgia buttons. Besides the Tetris scroller, which really is a nice idea, I very much liked the end gfx with the star in the jar. This is a wonderful touching picture (the scene needs more female artists!). I just can't thumb this prod up here because it already ranked too high at Evoke... :)
lol ripped sprites
i'm getting really tired and bored with this kind of 8bit retro things.
Insert coins done wrong. Sorry but:
+ framerate going up and down like crazy during the transitions
+ Sorting artifacts and terrible alpha blending
+ Scanned pictures everywhere
I did like the tetris effect, but the rest was rather cheap.

I liked the Lego style, the tetris scroller and I love the endpic. But the whole production is just too cliché for a thumb up... I'd prefer more demos on old machines than demos about old machines.
plus extra thumb for making it run on linux. =)
the scroller part looked nice, so did the game characters. but the rest was just ugly
as Maali said... this is just retrowanking.
Wow, bitterness at its best now...
I really don't like nostalgic stuff. Shouldn't have won.
awful music, horrid "crowdpleasing" that just goes on and on and on... and pictures of yourselves in the credits? argh, hell no.
OMG WTF they found our lost sea star !!!11111111
It's really nice, but nothing like extremely good... if you think of The Unreasonable Deepness on the funny side or Sweet Home Under Synthetic Clouds on the serious side or almost whatever else in code and artwork skill taken, it simply doesn't really do...
the worm was über cool :) the rest is nice too, but it's a bit overrated...
For all those who have neither Windows nor Linux, someone nicknamed BUTTONTANG recorded it and put it on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkwR_iWJXE4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkwR_iWJXE4
No thanks.
Maybe technically not as good as the Cocoon demo, but a way better and more enjoyable experience to watch it.
The tune also fits in nicely, the only letdown was the Supersprint-scene.
And this debating around ranking really sucks - learn that opinions always are subjective, and don't blame things on voting systems or drunk sceners

I always feel bad about thumbing down prods, but this was way too disappointing - and ugly - for a winning demo. No style, no subtlety in the design, it was all too obvious..

lies. the whole thing is like watching a dead horse being beaten for the sake of raising the popular vote once more. I feel sorry for the greetings scroller, which was not a toe-curling event like the rest.
This really didn't do it for me. The tetris scroller was nice, but the rest was not.
good ideas, trying oldskool mood, but why that sucky bigbeat chipmusic. disturbed the complete idea. if you want to do oldskool better stay completely oldskool next time.
was like love parade for me :D
was like love parade for me :D
I like the music, and feelimng of most parts. Design could be improved and more straight to the topic i guess the mixture of old and new is not always solved well, though the ideas shown were good.
The tetris scroller is very nice.
The tetris scroller is very nice.
Funny idea, but nothing more
i like the tetris scroller
maybe it shouldn't have win i don't really know, from here it has good rythm
so no thumb down, the tetris helps for the piggy

I'm all for 8-bit, and that's basically why I'm not all for this demo.
i usually like kakiarts productions, but this one doesn't really appeal to me at all.
Wicked greetings part. Great overall except the city part near the end. A bit overrated, but nice anyway.
Good job.
Nice and annoying and the same time. Greetings scroller rocks (but is too slow, part should have been shorter) and the credits part is nice too (even though not really original, then again, the whole demo isn't). Made as a crowd pleaser I suppose and I guess it worked fine as that. The demo lacks any real effects and specially the music should have been better, it's rather annoying and boring. Still not a bad demo but not a really good demo either. Picture at the end is nice.
and = at of course :)
Cool tetrisscroller. Rest is too cheap and "plastic". Piggy.
why do i feel that Melon dezign could have made it ?
I want to play!
Some neat stuff, but it didn't actually look any good imo. The "scanned advertisements"-scene was really cheap and cynical. A piggy.
Good atmosphere and thanks for driving me home!
Positiv
oh well, some ok ideas in it, but please make it at visually appealing (like in the greetz part)
a few good scenes safes this from the dreaded thumb down
+
WOW - I just love it !
hahahahahah cool
didn't work for me at all
Holy crap - awesome, awesome music. REALLY nice!
And I LOVE the greetings part aswell.
NICE feeling!
And I LOVE the greetings part aswell.
NICE feeling!
tut gut
Listening to this soundtrack several times each day.
It's one of those tunes that I simply don't get tired of.
Kind of like Cyborg Jeff's "email 2 elise (valentine skulls remix), but not QUITE as good - close, though. \o/

no.
tetris scroller was great and music was ok, too but the rest was quite awful.
flying star was _very_ annoying
flying star was _very_ annoying
technically not so impressive, but its allways a fun to watch it.
= ilmarque
great music, some good and some boring parts.
overall cool production
overall cool production
I was a-fearing cheese.. but it was miles better than I expected what with the retro theme. Solid thumb up.
feels like 8bit :)
i like that greetings line in tetris style, really cool!
i like that greetings line in tetris style, really cool!
This tetris scroller rooôôôôcks !!!
Lovely demo. I like tetris greeting part most. Watching "credits part" was also fun.
sorry.. this is just vote fishing all the way.. i can't stand it... where did orginality go?
the code seems quite ok though, had no problems running this on my old shitty laptop.

some nice parts here and there, the tetris-scrolly was nice, ofcoz ;)
but all in all it gets a quite weak piggy on my display..
but all in all it gets a quite weak piggy on my display..
Cool concept and well designed and my flatmate (nonscener) liked it too. The tetris greeting was very clever. Music was awesome :-) Not sure about first place though...
first place!? a sad demo-world i'm livin' in...
Very nicely done...
not my thing, poor technically and just another 80's nostalgic demo. The music is a real torture. Definitively not a first place demo.
While technically being an ok prod, IMO this shouldn't win first place.
Piggy.
Piggy.
Love the Tetris scene and soundtrack. =) Graphics were OK.
Woohoo! Great! :)
goargeous credits and good music, but som lacks overall... anyway, quite good!!!
:))
Crowdpleaser? Retrowanking? Hell Yeah!
pop nonstop (a good thing 4 once)!!
!RULEZ!
:)
cute. no really.
3D graphics animations of games-alike and nice music
Linux port didn't work for me, but the Windows one run perfectly under WINE, I really liked the tetris scroller
Nice tribute to oldschool times, but without being oldschool in style. I like it.
what stingray said.
Pretty scabby and mostly boring. But the music has something to it and the tetris scroller really kicks ass.
Nice !
very nice one
It's a nice crowd pleaser and there's nothing wrong with that.
New ideas! Very nice indeed...
really cool scroller but the rest is kinda meh :\
*sigh*

Cool! The scroller was insane
LOVELY!
Me like oldskool.. sorta..
Beautiful. An enjoyable demo with some nifty ideas. Bonus points for Linux support.
wonderful!
i love the music, the graphics, the design -
even a linux port is available :)

Tetris scroller was a hit for me :-) Overall a nice demo
Thumb for scroller, rest was poor.
Scroller rocks!
<3
Great demo with super music. Cool 8-bit stuff inside
aww man... that was so cool ;) <3
love that music <3
love that music <3
Funny and cool nice music =)
scroller was great, rest was mediocre, etc etc
very much yes indeed for the teris scroller. Also respect for the linux version.
the ball worm between 8bit characters, yes.
tetris scroller rocks, the music is ok =)
nice one, but shouldn't have won. Nice little details though.
First half was way better than the last half, but this demo makes me really happy :D

Hmm, seems to be pretty poorly optimized tbh. I mean sure, I ran it on a laptop with an Intel X3100 gpu and a 2ghz C2D on Ubuntu 8.10 so I shouldn't expect miracles, but it lagged pretty bad. And for such simple graphics that shouldn't be the case.
But I still liked it so thumbs up anyway :)
But I still liked it so thumbs up anyway :)
OK, apparently newer versions of Xorg have performance issues with Intel gpus. But now you make Xorg use UXA acceleration instead of EXA which supposedly gives you better performance. I tried it and the demo ran MUCH smoother. So ignore my last post.
Very nice demo with some really well thought out touches.
damn I always liked this demo very much sorry for the late thumb!
hmm, 8bit, this is magic, this demo is magic too :)
hmm forgot to thumb!
okkish. uber annoying tune :>
Very annoying tune, quite ok demo but über bland graphics.
Naaah it's sweet. :)
linux <3
great work, and one of the best greetings part ever
n1 beat :)
Made me smile.
Coolness!
Cute and well designed!
awesome stuff!!! LIKE!
nice greetings part, the rest is pretty "meh" :)
Some nice scenes and cool music.
C= forever! Great music, nice tributes.
Oh - and the Scorched Earth city battle is fantastic!
:)
Thank you ;-)
It works fine on a GNU/Linux operating system.

Cool, nostalgic, interesting ideas in some parts, Linux version.
Yes, I pretty liked this one. Especially the greetings part.
Yep.
should have been thumbed a long time ago actually...
so retro!!!
nice
great one! i really enjoyed the Tetris greets :D
Nice retrowanking.
