I love the way this is cool but if someone comes along these days and makes a music disk with ripped music, everyone thumbs them down and says "Did you get permission? LAME!" :-)

true.

True. But here's a small anecdote for you. Dr. Jekyll actually ended up at the same game developer as Chris Huelsbeck in the States. When it came out that we had made a compilation of his ripped music, there was sort of an awkward pause. But in the end it turned out that he was cool with it as long as we didn't make any money from it. And I can assure you we didn't.

Archmage: Well, if you have done you would have been long time ago out of scene..........
BTW, man do you remember the year when this prod was released?
added on the 2007-02-12 16:46:27 by sim sim
It was 1991. Not our greatest moment.

But the gfxhere is quite ok... (not babe on the dragon.... yet ;).

tough turrican music was sure a bigger effort on ATARI ST (chip+digidrums...) than on AMIGA. But it was O.K.

gfx... big word, I am talking 'bout logo and chars, in fact.

@Archmage
Don't get me wrong, I don't think this is the same as some guy downloading some music files from the internet and making some lame player front end and calling it a music disk; at least there was some skill in ripping the tunes, and making that interface.

Cool anecdote, too :)
rulez added on the 2007-02-12 16:59:18 by xeron xeron
Do not get me wrong, xeron, but ripping skills were more common thing in those days than now (at least for real computer enthusiasts). Unlike programming skills, for which source-codes you can now D/L from any kinda service dedicated to that...

@sim,
it was way cool & funny to rip/crack something. the sentence "cracking is good 4 u" is unimaginable nowadays, the way it was in 80's & beginning 90's.
added on the 2007-02-12 17:16:33 by seρρjο seρρjο
seppjo: I know man =). I remember (but with a small shoroud of dust now...) how proud I was by putting some NOPS here and there, or ripping sth which was difficult for my fellows to extract =).
By my post I wanted to point out the differences between generations and underline, imho, a bigger freak spirit of (so overused notion nowadays) 'old-school'.
added on the 2007-02-12 17:33:09 by sim sim
And true, that feeling is unimaginable for ppl of today...

Yes, back then it was lame to steal plain mod's and just releasing them. But listening to Turrican tunes was not something you could do without loading the game. (The player code for the multichannel music was something you had to extrect, for example.)
Hence, the coolness of this prod.

The incredible menu system was coded entirely by me. Hence, the lameness of this prod.

Considering what Hyde said and that one of the authors of the game made a similar demo on Atari ( http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=17069 ), I guess it was totally ok back then.

Plus, Andromeda rules anyway :)

Hyde:

Yes... I was keeping the 1st disk for a long time.

We all know it was OK to make some GOOD'n tiny music-disk from games it was a hard thing to rip off (Turrican, SoTBeast, Monkey Island) forthe sake of those crazy fellow dudes addicted to tfmx, fred, dw, sid adn so on....

Is the dms broken? I tried to use it directly in UAE as a disk, which didn't work. Then I tried dms2adf on it which also crashes with sigseg.
