now feel free to free yourselves from your preconceptions, i'm not a flash zealot, flash is just an easy tool to make long vector animation (4 min here) in short size, how many groups have developed the equivalent of such a vector engine - not many... and i'd rather care about women and warez :p

okkie...it's a good question. "what is the scene"? should there be limits to its definition and how far do you (and other evil liberals) want to water the scene down until you destroy it alltogether and it becomes just another "new-media" movement dominated by off-the-shelf animation packages, like Flash. I guess at least Flash is "realtime" - I've heard other people say that prerendered Maya animations are also acceptable as Demoscene productions! :/ imo thats blasphemous talk by n00bs who don't know the scene's roots.

Basically a REAL Demoscene production is:-
1. Realtime Code (using group's _OWN_ proprietary engine and low-level APIs)
2. Music
3. Graphics
optional extra:-
4. some currently "trendy" design concept (but this is not mandatory)


Flash prods are just lame and destroy what the Scene is about, i dont care how good some might look. And besides, they have thier own dedicated Scene, why do they need to invade ours. :P

zest, btw, Flash is not "new"...it's been around some years now. it's just not "Scene" :)

this mix & design only prod wasn't made for a demoparty (ripped music OMG!) but another scene. It was meant to mean something.

and let me give my own definition of the scene :

it's about taking fun and mastery out of micro computers with friends and little money, sharing aid and knowledge and software outside the daily business world, competing for nothing except self-pride. In fact it's just about not feeling like a fucking consumer. The scene is the antidote to global consumerism.
