slow, and quite ugly. nice music though.

its impressive how you managed to do some of the parts here SO slow that it hurts to the bone. About 10 fps on Core Duo 2.0 ghz. Technically, this had been okayish if it was done on a500. Otherwise, the color scheme was somewhat fresh, and the music was okay, so piggy

I was curious to see a software rendered demo in 2006. Its always nice to see people keeping up "lost arts" of the demoscene, especially when it presents the people making the demo with difficulties to overcome (IE how slow the CPU is compared to the GPU for 3D).

Unfortunately, whats here isn't very good. The colours worked nicely in some parts (the mountains) but were really eyewateringly horrible in others (the sphere & loop, the final part).

Factor in also that this demo is slow, and its not so great. If it were running on a 50Mhz CPU, i'd even say it ruled, but it isn't so it doesn't.

Piggy.

nice, i enjoyed it during the compo, but duckers has a point - it is very slow..

Good demo, but yes, the code could have been faster.

at the 3d scene with the pillars the fps dropped badly and it seems it crashed as well there.. anyway, so-so demo. thus a piggy
Code doesn't look very fine. Only the last scene was slow, the others looked 20 to 30 fps... but all the scenes were too simple to get less than 60fps in a 3ghz machine. I love software rendering, but in this case this case I can't thumb up. Sorry. The music is fine, the rest is ok.

the clipping code is slow. sue me for that.
this content shouldn't have to be slow even if every single triangle was clipping against all planes.....
+ the polyfiller has some ugly bugs...
some of the scenes look nice enough to save it from a thumb down, but that just makes it a more frustrating experience to watch the demo (as opposed to just checking the screenshots)
This is really the first demo where I've noted that the colorscheme was pretty miserable. But props for software rendering. Fix the bugs before the next one (:
some parts are nice
some are not
the overall is good
pretty average

and yeah, where's the linux port? :)
added on the 2006-11-13 21:46:16 by lorents lorents
lorents: if anyone would like to port this to linux, feel free to do that.. activator@frostad.org (no spam). i'll give you the sourcecode after a talk.
And hell yeah. A final version with some faster code would be my next project :p
Wasn't slow on my computer at all and looks and sounds nice. Some scenes has some ugly colors, but mostly nothing too bad.
rulez added on the 2006-11-13 23:20:00 by teel teel
Clipping sucked, colors were terrible and the whole thing ran like shit through a coffee filter, but it had a pretty good vibe.

Go fix that and next time, kick ass :)

not that bad (designwise), BUT: it's almost 2007 and the simple poly-filler is VERY buggy and also slow as hell!
added on the 2006-11-16 13:36:30 by toxie toxie
Speed is fine here. Not a bad demo, but the scene with the sphere and torus must be one of the ugliest I've ever seen regarding colors. :) An I thought I suck at choosing good looking colors. :D Music is not my cup of tea either, very boring and somewhat gay sounding. :D Greetingspart is nice. All in all a BB Image :)

I liked the software rendering thing. However, the general style was not my cup of tea.

Too Amigaish/386ish, this makes it funny, with also some rendering inacurracy small bugs (the stairy shit in the right side of the poly renderer :), reminds me old times, but a bit slow yes for what it does though, piggie though because it was nice overall.
added on the 2006-11-18 16:43:34 by Optimus Optimus
Optimus:you got it right, its supposed to be AMIGAISH, we are the new amiga group on PC..hehe......watch out for ICONS 07 :) FUCK expensive 3D cards PS.3.0 coding. Software coding is the shit (yes I am wasted now and have no idea what I am talking about ;D)....BUT HEY, thats just the way it is.....

TUFS we got issues, but hey, thats the way it is

serpent: i am sorry to hear that but it´s not horrible at all. just not exactly the stuff you like...

there's a final here: windows only.
ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2006/kindergarden06/demo/tufs_gd_final.zip . faster and more beautiful textures.
linux/macos ports are not finished, nor do I know if they ever will.
Just for the music ...

Nice and tight, but I'm actually NOT gonna thumb this one up and I'll tell you why:

1) To annoy you and make you do stuff like this on an Amiga instead of using a PC.

2) Because you did this on PC instead of Amiga

3) See 1 & 2

4) No greetings for IRIS? Your own, old group? WTF??????
OHH MY GOD???? I forgot you? How could I? I actually sat down with the coder on the party telling him witch groups to greet....oh no! oh no!....I feel so ashamed.....I gotta make it up to you some how........Rudy! we need to make a updated revision ;)
added on the 2007-01-03 12:36:11 by tFt tFt
tft: nah. i dont have time to change anything, and i think the code is hard to change now. i remember you told me to greet a group, and i did so, but it was not IRIS. anyways.. people who ask for greets are lame anyway. thats just the way it is.

lol. ok. not always hard to interpret what people say on the net these days. i found the sources around on my hd. i think ill upload it to scene.org soon. its not very usefull for those who are not into software rendering. perhaps its not very usefull for anyone anyways. i just want to get rid of the code.
Thumb for software rendering and good tune

Love it. Thanks for doing a SW demo, and for releasing the src! =D

i have to say one thing that wasnt mentioned in the credits. iirc loaderror helped out with the graphics. the overall colors and design of the demo.
