Best 64k i've ever seen!
rulez added on the 2006-08-05 23:52:34 by trisch
total ownage. if this doesn't win, there is something wrong with the voters at assembly.
holy shit smash.
rulez, even though I'm not a huge fan of all that "funky stylee"-thang
Cool!!!!
lol - Smash makes teh best cuppa-chow on the scene. this was awsome matey!!
lots of work on it, some great stuff, very well technically.. but.. that city & the corridor.. what?! the music doesn't fit the visuals either.. but hey.. it does have that wowfactor that we all go after.
Rules! One of the few prods that have that ever so elusive initial WOW-factor!
Technically brilliant aswell as stylish (those grafitti-logos extruding out looks sooo cool!).
I expect nothing but first place for this.

amazing, I totally love the intro scene. sometimes it's a bit boring (middle part) but hell, those graphics rock. respect and all available thumbs up. :)
legends never die :)
Reed's music is already enough for the WOW factor!

excellent flava! ;) i love the random 70s feel
pageturner with afros and breakdancing!
Lovely stuff, not even the repetitive breakdancing could make the experience less exciting to watch.

whole lot of waiting for bunch of whitenessess
p3 1ghz, radeon x800pro
dear kings, how about doing 64k intros that common mortals can also watch without having to download videos :/

Wow, it took about 10 mins of precalc to get a 1spf slideshow on my (aging) Radeon9500... time to wait for the avi, I guess.
P3 1ghz.. thats like from 2000? What on earth do you expect?
About the prod: Okish, would be a thumb up normally. But it actually looks pretty horrible on my machine (2006, with decent gfx card). There are issue with pixelated mip maps and long breaks between scenes.

Sorry, but it's not frustration to second ps. It's going hell crazy.
Lets breakdance...
superb!
Superstylish! Great gfx/design!!! I don't know whether this or the Conspiracy intro deserves to win (I am more fan of the second, but this one is an amazing work).
cool!
some realy nice style elements, maybe a little bit too 'fairlight'.
woa. this is REALLY great. rocks hard.
(note: some people requested a video version, got one here:
http://www.farbrausch.de/~fg/seed/dead_ringer.avi.torrent;
i'll keep seeding for a few days, but with pretty low speed, don't have that much upstream - would be nice if some others could seed too :)

why don't you simply upload the video somewhere - for example on scene.org - instead of that torrent weirdness?
looking forward to see it.
looking forward to see it.
Absolutely beautiful!
The dancing guy made me say "what the fuck..." immediately. Super nice intro but maybe just not my style after all.
excellent demo, great style (but some parts remind me a little bit of a waschmittelwerbung)...
flt..class of its own..

fuckin best ever!
ok, you may now also get the video here: http://acryd.untergrund.net/videos/fairlight-dead_ringer.avi
yet another masterpiece.
very stylish in all aspects, char anim rocks
Fairlight - Almost as cool as seeing two horses fucking (tm)
reiluvalokerho hallitsee!
This certianly has th ex-factor or should I say the WOW-factor!

great stuff
whoa .. superb animations. Perfect intro.
Amazing cityscape and breakdancer. Overall this one takes my vote for the winning intro. From a simple personal point of view, I watch intros for enjoyment and this one gives me the most :) Nice work!
Not bad for 64k.
super sweet & impressing!
Really cool but i liked conspiracy more. Anyway, there's no other option than to thumb it up instantly.
(Rulez because of what I saw on video)
For some reason it does not work on my machine. I tried the three exe, same consequence, it just loads, the progression bar moves up, and then when reaching 100% just get back to windows desktop. Any idea ?
(Athlon 2700+, 1gig, Geforce 6600 gt)

just WOW! 3d graffiti idea is very cool, and end credits - giant tags flying across city, is nice too, so thumbsup!
humm, too bad I thumbed up, if I had known before that this intro was not Windows 2000 compatible, I would have put a thumb down instead...
Kewl. It's stylish on some aspects but I don't get fully into it despite an obvious amount of work.
The dancing guy is very cool, but the overall intro lacks this usual cool that made the best stylish thingies like Breakpoint 06 FLT intro.
The colors are a bit dark without much brightness and the music sounds itself like a kind of cheesy funk. It fits the whole atmosphere but it's "demo funk" again.
Overall, rules ;)

cool cool cool
the thumb should not be forgotten...
Magnificent work.
excellent! fairlight is a class of its own. the b-boy is great, so are the pieces by maktone. you should have let him do the tagging in the bp06 intro. :P
sad infofile. smash, don't give a fuck about what people seem to demand from you! your style is untouchable.
i would have prefered electro or b-boy funk over disco though.

Thx for the video, it's really time to change my graphic card..
Great everything

best intro so far imho...
GREAT style, this totally rocks. The message in the nfo sucks indeed, I want more!
Btw, some pouet admin please change the video download link to
ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/acryd/videos/fairlight-dead_ringer.avi so the traffic spread to the mirrors (which is not the case with the http link)

kick ass! shame it's swapping so much on my laptop...
0wnz0r3d the 64ks.
I'm seeding ryg's video for a few days, I have some up/downstream to give to something this f*n cool.

fresh and cool! i love the "2d goes 3d"-effects
it's time for the new direction
finally seen the video. nice graffs
this is the shit... somebody turn on the respirators...
I guess I belong to the group of people mentioned in the infofile, but I still somehow like it anyway.
Very nice indeed, even though I am not a big fan of graffity style...
best production of the party IMO. Fuckin' ace stuff!
yo!.wooh.<3
Completely not my style. Piggie because of the effort put into it.
hell yes! :)
--- even i can like "no effect intros", when they make sense ;)
and this would never work on my machine either, but why the fuck should i care? the pc scene has always been like this

rocks hard! nu style
Lot of same effects that we have seen in previous flt intros, but now they are looking better. Lot of stuff and great design.
Wow, how funky it is! And how slow... But the dancer is great anyway.
fantastic! the breakdancer is awesome, the graffiti-style rocks. excellent music as usual. what are you guys planning next!?
I loved the dancer :)
awesome work smash other flters o/

"too funky for me"
great, but
1) so heavy for cpu\video
2) it's a torture for audio system to play sounds with freq < 40Hz, there is no sound at all at cheap speakers but high quality speakers with good amplifiers will struggle trying to play these freqs. (HP at 40-50Hz would be nice)

GREAT!
AT LAST ! Brilliant style in 64k, brilliant coding - everything is above 100%
fuuha, disco style
Ahhh, that overview of the city alone should be enough to win ... :)
Is that breakdance motion captured?
Is that breakdance motion captured?
Kick Ass prod
Style! Congrats!
Very good 64k (excellent music for the size, solid code and cool design), despite the reuse of elements from the previous intros ;)
Just one thing: don't do shadows if you can't make them look good. Some looked really bad here, especially during the credits part :)
I'm glad some people can make something different from the usual (crappy) eurotrance-64k-intros.

Very impressive, and an almost impossible buttload of stuff in it. This is worth a thumbs up alone... BUT.
- Please choose more subtle rendering errors next time, the glaring z fighting in the city scene and the blocky shadows (even on nvidia) aren't really necessary
- Somewhere deep in my heart, there's still hope that Reed will be able to pull off composing a second song in his life. Would be nice.
- While we're at it: Honestly, why didn't you call the intro "re-re-re-cycle?" Apart from the total code reuse mania you started in Death and Taxes (even if I as FR member should really shut up about this ;) the whole style of your intros/demos didn't really vary.
- Yeah, and that, uh, "message"... you know, your so-called "new direktion" and all the fake ghetto style isn't too fresh anymore either. Please. Come on. Fucking up people's RGB is so 2000.
Still: great intro.

The Z fighting is ugly. Other than that, it owns.
"MAKE YOUR MARK ON SOCIETY, NOT IN SOCIETY" plz dont stop this style ;)
Fairlight has what others don't: 64k music that _sounds_ good. And this one's got some style too.
Oh trust me, the prod in question fulfilled my demand for scene poetry more than I ever allowed myself to expect :)
Apart from that take a deep breath, read again what I've written, and don't feel so freaking offended. And do some research before you put me into the particles-glow-trance corner, thanks ;)

Ohuet'!!! Dajte dve!!!
Well i'm not really a fan of this graffiti-hiphop-in-your-face-nigga style, but this was quite a smash ;)
The head model, the dancing and the extruding star at the end were all wow. And the music too, as usual :)
I didn't really like the cityscape though, those textures are ugly and the windows are waaay too big.
I do have pixelated mipmaps here and there as well, and the whole thing feels a bit sluggish on my machine (amd3200+, 1gig, 6600gt).

Great performance
impressive
sorry, i don't like it:
the music is great for sure, but apart from the dancing dude, there's not much of interest:
the intro-part looks cheap and those bouncing logos and star-stripes, again, just feel so wannabe-style, making the whole production seem rushed.
too bad...

sweeet
Sweet stuff
Love it. But I get a lot of random black and white pixels all over the screen when running it. Is this a bug or is my graphics card fried?
This prod rulez!!!
Absolutely astonishing. I was busy drinking and talking when this came on, watching with half an eye. When the breakdancer came on the screen I was like "holy shit, this must be the Fairlight intro!". Very cool stuff, better than their demo entry.
smash: I've ran the intro a few times just to see if it's random, and it doesn't appear to be.
It doesn't show up at all for the first two scenes (the city overview and the scrolling wall), the first time it shows up is when you're looking down the room (as pictured above). Then the pixels keep showing up for the next couple of scenes (the tunnel, the afro dude, and the breakdancing guy), only to disappear again during the city graffiti scenes. It's also gone during the credits scene.
My Graphics card is a Radeon 9800 PRO if that helps. Also here's another screen of the problem for good measure.

Impressive work guys... cool design, great code and Xpektakular music as usual! Da synth is... blaeh, no words :)
Smash: I dunno, it's not a hot day.. and one would think I'd see it in more demos if it was overheating.
I just tried the other exe versions and it does indeed show up in all of them.
I just tried the other exe versions and it does indeed show up in all of them.
Seriously.. this is some really nice shit! Oyisser, Smash and Reed ( with others ) are making some really amazing intros right now.. After each 64k I just wait for the next one. Keep 'em coming!!
smash: On windows 2000 it's just a clean exit after 'loading bar' has finished filling. No error message, no crash dialog box.
fake ghetto styling!? eh... jesus. i'd rather watch this prod 10 times than most of the shit released recently on PC. if anyones in a style trap its not these guys... wicked prod.
I'm getting similar problems, but the artifacts are even worse. This "HALLO!" shit keeps appearing. Graphics card is Dixons Cyberspaz PHAT+ w/13.8 MB VRAM and 193 shaders with gash support. Any suggestions? Got the latest bambi firmware.
runs a bit slow on my machine, but a lot better than "meet the familly".
It's your best 64kb intro (read: it's the only I like :)
It's your best 64kb intro (read: it's the only I like :)
very great funky demo !!!
Whoa! Nelly! Pretty nice, but too much of the same music (as compared tot their other 64kb's. more of the same music)
Nice colors, some very nice scenes but some that I didn't really like (such as the city scene). The music wasn't exactly my cup of tea. The dancers looked very good, though I think they'd have looked even better without the shading.
holy guacamoly!
good :)
nice, but req...
I think this one rule for sure
but for the moment i can't enjoy it
lots of shadows problem
radeon 9700 1 Gb ram
the 800_4aa runs very well but shadows are strange fix it as soon as possible and you'll have a thumb UP :)

Thanks for the video guyz
just seen it and the intro is quite cool

after watching the video i can say i've no texture at all !!

fuckin nice
appearently none of the fairlight prods released at asm are working on my machine:
AthXP 2.6, rad 9800se latest catalyst + directx, 512mb ram, win2k
whatever.. i watched the video and have to say that this is some SERIOUS SH*T MOTHERF***ERS!! ;-)

not my cup of tea, but the quality of 3d scenes are very impressive for 64k.
The B-Boy is also great!

rulez!
Rock solid, Reed RIP.
Not my cup of tea, but the concept is well achieved and the visuals are excellent.
Man, this amount of animations packed in 64k is insane...
Some scenes looks a bit strange, but the style & mood is excellent.
Some scenes looks a bit strange, but the style & mood is excellent.
serious motherfucking shit indeed, props.
Vocode my ass! :)
does not work here ... returns to win after precalc bar ...
2hexogen it's shame to you to thumbdown this prod, check hw req. !
It's impressive how much stuff there's crammed in here, and still managing to be stylish (unlike some other cram-all-you-can-64ks). However, too much memory consumption means swapping, which ruined my watching experience. The graffitis are awesome.
perhaps I can enjoy it on my next computer. overrated from my point of view. :) (Namevoting?) so I need to help Hexogen.
flt rulez
impressive, though absolutely not my cup of tea...from my point of view it was quite overrated (twice as much votes then 2nd conspiracy?) for me it was 3rd place in 64k...just after conspiracy and kewlers...
...moreover I don't like the music, cause it imho resembles wayfinder's fr-025 ST a little(!) bit (and I hate that song really ;))
...still I was really impressed by the visuals and can't vote other then thumbs up, though I hope that demoscene won't move in this "graffiti-hiphop-in-your-face-nigga style" (to cite zoom) "direktion" :)

fiver2: "a bit"? :D
Not bad, but some scenes were slow on my GeForce 6800 card! :( I had to use 640x480 with no FSA.

Really enjoyed all the stuff :)
Great stuff. I'm amazed that you managed to squeeze that motion capture of smash break dancing into the intro along with all the other stuff!
Great! Atmospheric! Winning material!
damn shit - this one really kicks!
solid stuff. b-boy movements were really realistic, and i liked the stylish graffiti-3d-thingies. some of the stuff felt a bit disconnected (the town scenes in particular) but overall i really enjoyed this. a bitchin' soundtrack as well, as usual :)
Funk !!!
very cool prod. but i think it should have been ranked second...
Great animations, amazing soundtrack and of course respect for being the best with a solid own style. I hope to see you in more 64k :(
You guys surely proved your point.
This one ROCKS!! simply GREAT !!! :-)
GUDE LAUNE!
stylish :)
Purely awesome (expecially the softsynth, as usual).
Of course no-way here with radeon 9700 (I can only see dull bunches of polygons)

a true killer.
3d graffiti look more than natural.
3d graffiti look more than natural.
Really funny colors, cool music, fantastic ideas and design... a bit repetitive, rulez!
an amazing technical and creative achievement! so much stylee! brilliant work flt!
Some of the textures were quite bad (In my humble opinion), but the animation of the dancer was great, the 3d 2d logos were pretty, and so was the star-lines.
From a technical point of view this is simply impossible! It's so fucking great that it cannot be done! REALLY!
(but also sucks as hell on my "slow" machine and takes minutes for precalc!)

A very good one!
Just out of curiosity, why no linear mipmap interp on (some?) textures and no linear interp on shadows?
I found it, the latter in particular, a bit out of joint with the rest...

cool dance anim.
best 64k i've ever seen
That does it.
El Che on the dancefloor. Reed owns this cathegory entirely!
OMFG! One of the best demos I have ever seen and have seen alot of them in my days. Holy crap! Words are to small right now...
Deserves a thumb up only for the music.
for graffiti.
really impressive, hope you will be back some day..

Probably the best 64k ever. Shame it doesn't work on my machine.
indeed badass.. sad to hear that it might be your last >_<
fresh style, well done
Nice moves!
WOW!! Absolutely amazing intro. I can't believe this thing comes out of a 64K file. Amazing work. So happy that it runs fine on my comp too after a couple of friends had some issues with it.
wow, nice! i especially like the part when the dancer freezes and it zooms in. also maktone´s pieces and reed´s music. very nice! only the texts look a bit ugly, too strong perspective and is that impact?
cool shadows, great design & concept, cool music. very fairlight. it was a tough compo though, didn't pick it to win
One word: inconsistent. The cold, realistic part at the beginning simply doesn't fit the cartoon-styled gangsta. Technically it's well done, though.
Adok: I also thought that on the beginning, but it's actually the main point of the intro 'Let's stop doing city/fly-by prods'.
Heh...
Heh...
Anyway, "Chaos Theory" by Conspiracy is my favourite from that compo. It should have placed 1st and this intro 2nd. The other places (concerning the Windows prods - I don't use Linux at the moment) match my opinion.
Still, this one is not a bad intro.
Still, this one is not a bad intro.
I like it.
CPU is very hot now.
Dudes...Good code, impressed by packing so many stuff into a smally 64k... but for the content I am sceptical here. Would not say "Probably the best 64k ever." being only impressed by a so-called "street style" which is soooo commercialised now. A dancing b-boy some graffiti pieces and not so very good tags... Do the street-style fellows could tell what was RSC, FAB5 and so on? What is a tee-up, dub, e2e, t2b, a panel or a wc? But well... Maybe it is not what counts here. Never the less, respect for the work, even if the graffiti pieces presented here I do not find too polished.
smash: Why not (not joking). Could be interesting to talk some thing over. Have not seen his real-life pieces tho (panels? walls?).
smash: no doubt about that, man ;). I was rather talking about letters, or what we could call in other words - a style (which every artist represent). But it is not possible to remember all the writers around the world.
please shut up. offtopic.
holly shit!
Aiit
the best 64k i have seen in a while.
and for the shadow whiners, it's the trademark fairlight shadow.

damn i love the tune...
sim this is not 12ozprophets... i dont know there is not many aerosol heroes around here i guess ;)
nice music
Simply brilliant.
BASS!
Very Very good!
Awesome! Too bad I can only watch the video version of this gem.
This is definately one of my top 3 favorite demos:
1. Heaven7 by Exceed
2. Dead Ringer by Fairlight <- ;)
3. Onwards by Traction
'nuff said.

couldn`t watch due to high requirements of the video.. :(
Damn, a really demo-ish 64k, with pretty sweet music. I love that extrusion effect.
I Love it
Very, very impressive! Everythings comes together nicely: design, code, music, graphics. Especially love the credits floating above the city. And Nezbie is right - this looks like a demo of 8-12 MB. Kudos to everyone involved!
magic.
this is one of the best 64K ever!!
elite!
Fantastic!
Excellent! Excellent work and all info packed initially in a 64K file. I give it 8/10 since the topic is not my favorite - but it sure damn reeks professionally work here! Thumbs up.
Nice,but not the first place...
Superb!
very cool
Cool, different style, Cheguevara dancing? LOL
I love it !
dance - kewl
damn. first i knew this was a 64k, then i forgot and thought it was a demo. then i saw it again and got blown away that it was 64k! holy crap! this was just megacoooool!!!
yippa!
does anyone else notice that the voice doesn't play under windows vista?
doesn't ruin the intro (demo?) at all, btw.
doesn't ruin the intro (demo?) at all, btw.
praetor: yes, i tried to run it on my friend's vista computer, and i wondered why there was no singing... eventually got bored and quit :I
sure is a good demo though!
sure is a good demo though!
praetor: Yes I noticed that too.
And that's great intro indeed! :)

Awesome. Style me baby!
woah!
nice!
absolutely amazing 64k..
Awesome...
Saving the day
HOLY SHIT... Awesome, awesome, awesome... Impossible stuff!
Fabulous, everything looks so easy!
I loved the street style of it, refreshing and new.
Really amazing stuff!
Modeling, animation, and music all in 64k. Much <3
Jaw dropping shit, ain't it. A must see.
very very cool.

Whoops , no thumb from me ?? Why I forgot to write note on this gem ?
Massive 64k intro, one of the best I have ever seen, I love it for music, style, design, art. Excellent pack of hard work.
Extraordinary thick thumb up!

very cool
clearly one of the most coherent production from fairlight.
great code music , too less 3d animation to be extreme.
compared to fresh/flt, fresh is really average in all points.
enjoy it everyday is possible , just buy a computer.

but what exactly does "dead ringer" mean?
back in the old days, people were horribly afraid of beeing buried alive. Myths passed around about people who woke up in a cask six feet under. The killbill tricks wasnt know back then, so they attached a bell with the headstone, which was attacked to the finger of the newly burried corpse. If the bell rang, under false alarm, it was a so-called dead ringer.
Also, the same story provides the expression "saved by the bell".

great prod, btw. Never understood the need for the corridor, but flt seem to like them.
megafresh :)

I'm with keito on this one.
This is one of my fave prods of all time. I love the music, the ribbons!, and especially the graffiti. I get fuzzy everytime I watch it.
The only thing I dislike is the lack of detail on teh breakdancing guy and building models, but I'm guessing this was to keep it under 64+k.

didn't like it then. don't like it now. technically it might be interesting, but style and music make my head bleed.
Great GFX and SFX.
So damned impressive and stylish.
Puts most of today's 64k prods to shame.

very impressive
runs on actual gfx cards \o/
I don't like that funky/hiphop style but I have to say that I'm impressed by the amount of solid effects/gfx/music you succeed to put into 64 tiny kb :)
this is really cool and the music rocks!
Made a Highres Youtube Rip for it:
Dead Ringer by Fairlight | 64k (720p)

This one is really cool. Would be my favorite FLT 64k if not for Panic Room.
Nice

Still so very nice
How come i never commented this ? It still rocks, even in 2016.

Some how I feel that this a perfect example of what CGI and art was in the 2000s. Especially the cel-shaded dancing dude and spray paint art seem to fit well what I saw back then on CGI commercial and such. I throw my bet that this might be something people will image as the 2000s equivalent to vaporwave ten to twenty years from now. Or maybe I'm wrong and it's the gray glow graphics of the games from the time?
Anyways amazing 64k with a a really catchy tune. I do find the lack of consistency between some scenes a bit annoying but overall very nice production.

Obviously a lot of good shit...
BUT... some pretty awful looking textures and shading (the corridor for one), and for that matter the texture filtering. Not sure if intentional or a technical or design choice/limitation, looks decent at places and awful on others. I absolutely hate the FFT shaking camera and texts... can't imagine it looking worse without it, or just using some simple function for something similar. I can't stand it either way. Not my favorite Fairlight 64k from this era.
Other than that, don't have much to complain though. A few really neat looking scenes, cuts and camerawork. Reed delivers hard like always. Don't feel there are any consistency issues, it's just a collage of back-then contemporary graphical motifs from this particular hiphop/urban/alternative school of design.

nice!
For some reason I never commented on this. Fresh style and good content for its time. The camera shakes and graffiti shakes are annoying - they probably work better with a lower framerate. ;)
music blew up this demo. dancing guy was dreadful, graffiti was great. overall i think its the perfect example of all things coming together to make a perfect whole.
i love this!
12 years later, and I still turn the volume up when this comes up. The extruding logos are still my favourite part of the demo, even though it didn't age that well in other parts. But what does.. :)
absolutely flawless
Still mindblowing how you managed to cram all the stuff inside 64k <3
Amazing, very stylish and distinct. I've known this demo for a while now, but only today it hit me how much stuff is in that 64k. I'm astounded.
And for me it hasn't aged at all, but it feels nostalgic in a way so I'm probably looking at it through rose-tinted glasses (:

i don't buy the ghetto style, but still a worthy thumb.
Those extruded grafitti logos are really cool! Music is also great. Doesn't sound like a size-optimized kind of tune. Heads above the competition at that time.
Really nice 64k demo had not seen this until now
Really impressed by the artsy of this demo!
Met an argentinian hippie/writer/director/swimmer here in Puerto de Mogán
Too incredible. and 64k, crazy!
the sound quality is just top, the music is top, the graphics are great, amazing stuff
Amazing!
Massive.
love the soundtrack
This demo is and has been a huge inspiration for me all these years! If you want to experience it with the lyrics on modern Windows versions, download and install this xp voice pack. You 'll thank me later! *Singing* You got to feel the music, the beats the breaks! Music! :)
