Doing a final version is fine, but the original version should still be available for people to see. If you're not fine with this, then it shouldn't be released at all until it's done.

If it's unfinished and totally unreleasable/unwatchable, why enter it at a party at all? Personally I have nothing against final and improved versions, but I want to see what the demos in the compo looked like. Especially if they won.

the visuals look promising but the "music" is totally unfitting and badly executed. go for the final! :)

They did, in fact, release THIS version at the party.. if they are going to pretend they didn't, they might aswell give the price money (if any) to the runner up. I do not condone with this kind of censorship at all, people deserve to see what really won in the demo compo.

the screenshot looked promising but the story aint good enough, and some of the animations makes it all just look silly
the robot model was ok.
the rest of the 3d was pretty awful, the animations were bad (except for the "physics" - plugin job?). looks like the same code as 3 years ago, as well. disappointing.

"Nasty"? I want to see EXACTLY the same thing that was shown at the compo and WON it, not what WOULD have been or what's SUPPOSED to be. Did the authors ask you to turn away from the screen at the party when it was shown and tell you to "wait for the final"? How did it win then?
If a demo wins, I want to see why, regardless of it's state - it's that simple.
It's not like it's a leaked commercial game where the release date is still months away...
It's a demo which was released at a party, won it and therefore should be and supposed to be spread, just like it states in the compo rules. If you don't obey the rules, you're out. End of story.

the code seems to be rather good as well, can't really judge that, but since it runs pretty smooth here on my machine, i just subjectivly assume that. (nobody seems to care for nice code anyway :P)

Gargaj: ok, I get the point. The reason behind writing my previous post is quite simple. After Evoke Pandur/BM has supressed the release of "Final Audition" so I had two more days to finish the details. But we had only some compatibility problems with geForces, so it was easy enough to release it without major changes, comparing to the party version. End of story.

Music is like unpolished, robot animations are pretty awful, some models don't fit the scene at all and I don't get the story (if there's any).

just read partly the comments, i think that original version are uploaded by orgas on scene.org, so if people upload another here it shouldnt be a big problem, especially when "people" is the creator... anyway going to watch it

When I tried to run it, all I got was a dialog window entitled "Oh no!" with the text "FUCK!!!" written in it. Have I missed something?

I can understand delaying release a little to fix some nasty bugs etc., but there should be some kind of cap on the time taken.. having a compo-winning demo that isn't spread sucks badly. So, get your release version finished BM.

The demo was released, it's time to stop pretending. And now I'll thumb it for what it is, for what you released.
It's terribly unfinished, the whole demo feels like some .3ds replayer. Also your attitude adds alot to this thumb.
Anyway, it's time to upload this demo to scene.org and add the download link here at pouet. No more excuses.

I've just seen this (through the cracked version :), couldn't run it on my home PC before, and also don't understand how this won? Well,. ok nice reflections on the robots, physics, etc. I really don't like the music and I found it boring as hell. No thumbs down though, there is an effort put into it and perhaps a story behind..

I think that's the point -there was nothing to fix. The error is not an bug, just a clumsy date checker that prevented people from watching the demo.

Oh dear. It's a pitiful show of the demoscene spirit when a group take their winnings and don't give anything back to the scene. This should have been fixed and released BEFORE the compo, not a month or more later or by another group.
My other criticism is that the demo is really horrible! The "music" sounds like my first attempt on my Bontempi keyboard at the age of 3 and who the hell approved those visuals?! I don't know about the technical mumbo jumbo behind it but the result is uglier than Porky's mum without make up!!
The sad part is that I love Black Maiden's previous releases and they're a group I look out for with anticipation. They dropped the ball with this one.
And that concludes this epic-sized demo review.
