I was telling everyone it could be done, thanks for proving me sane :D
quite nice
damn looks very professional. like something from tv.
double thump up... wow... really nice
Total perfection :)

first parts were incredible, then a little bit soso, then just great. overall awesome.
moppi based on the MK12 motion design studio, so - not moppi style :P
only one word can describe this one. "Awesome" is that word.
the beginning is very moppi-ish, but that's only a good thing. :) very solid demo with a great soundtrack.
Yup, this is marvelous!
i'll wait for the video version... my radeon x300 isn't
able to do it :'( Looked awersome in the stream.

fucking great. tho the first few parts are a lot better than the rest, but still.
can't get this to work with kkapture though. pantaloon/smash, are you available for a problem-hunting session? :)

Style Kingz!!!
Pitty my memory is too low and swapping killed the experience. I'll watch it later in another PC. But this is an amazingly stylish and great hard work!!!

This is da shit, ya get me?
Looked a bit unfinished here and there, hopefully there'll be a final some day.. But totally ace stuff anyway. The 2D gfx alone blows away the competition.
great work.
After seeing it on my pc
i think cool stuff! but not WOW!
here is my thump

Perfect demo!
pure roullage. i hope you guys win the 1st prize - would be well deserved. hey, and finally the ribbons look cool, too. :)
Cant' watch it
radeon 9700 + xp 2200 + 1Gb DDR
just after the little guy(video) and the trees i' have only white squares and no texture
what's the hardware required to watch this ?

after your 64k intro i thought that your demo cannot be any better than it... i was so wrong; a real killer! i too hope it will win the demo compo!
too slow on my a64 3000+ geforce 6600, but gfx, style is great!
the line growth algo update was cool.
the ram swap performance extravaganza that made the whole first minute look like a slideshow was not.

awesome demo.. a bit scattered themewise tho. kudos for finally doing the moppi-in-3d-flower-effect :)
Beginning was great. Rest did not really catch my attention.
Piggy for bad technical implementation. Like all fairlight demos this one stutters and seems to have a memory leak (constant HD access despite 1gig of ram)

Yeah I like it!
what a cheerful mess! :D
the soundtrack is just perfect.

please add an working download link, the one from assembly page did not work here.
kool!
visual quality are high.
and this one have any idea.
trax are not my taste.
but, totaly awesome.

You should be ashamed! This is the only assembly prod that doesn't run on my machine!
Didn't look as good at home as at the party place, but it's still one of the few fairlight PC prods I would like to watch once in a while. The beginning was stunning.
The music is fantastic. Everything else as well. Though growing lines/stuff is pretty common recent flt prods...
1 fps in the first minute or so. Then it gets smoother. Dualcore AMD 3800, 1GB ram, GF 6800.
The ATAT was sweet.
The ATAT was sweet.
Really great, but as others has mentioned, it lags in the beginning. And on the higher settings it made my machine restart after a minute or so. But yea, great stuff!
512 MB of ram simply is NOT enough for this demo. Insane disk swapping here. I will wait for a fix or watch video.
moppi memories at beginning... clean style in the rest
Bling.
hhoooolyy! LOVE! The massive growing geometry effects RULED! overall very nice and fresh, however somewhat slow on my machine (r9700 mobility)
different but not really my cup of tea. much too boring. I also don't like the converted amiga flt intro at the beginning since it only works with Angel Dawn's logo. :)
Oh, yes. 384 Mb RAM is not enough as well :) Smash, I'll prey for your success in final version fixing.
well, it's a bit sluggish at times on a dualcore pentium 3.2, 1gb ram, gf6600gt as well...
Thumb up for the effort, but actually I found this very boring.
I know it's getting old, but... a video would be nice. :)
Multiple nice ideas and design touches in this one
Great material in here, but somehow strange jerky on a P4 3.2 , 1gb RAM and Radeon9600DDR
Needs fixing, or final version??
cute design anyway

Loads well on my PC ( XP FE 1 ) and quits after having destroyed my destop.
From What i saw on the asm stream : it rocks
From What i saw on the asm stream : it rocks
yay.
i still really like it - even if it is unfinished. the beginning is top! - there is a video out there i managed to grab it. my vid card is so old it has grey hair... :)
Neat, but to hear the old northbound track in this context is a bit strange.
Not actually fair to have music this good.
Nice cabinet of curiosities
nice :)
its just not fair to the rest of us to draw this much excellent graphics on the screen.. I nearly suffocated in awe watching the intro.. and then the dusty plant thingy came along and I switched jaws with so many people while looking for my own in the heap of jawdroppings <- hoho :)
saw this at asm, really amazing. design is awesome!
for some reason not working on my home computer tho, complaining about missing d3dx9_30.dll. maybe i should update my directx then...?

Nothing else to say than perfection.
this stuff rocks, shame that i only saw it once... my machine cannot play it, so could anyone insert a link for the video version?
Strange, on my system amd64 3500+9600 pro this bitcha crashed all the time. 10 secs after mighty precalc.
Im using v6.6 ati drivers. Other asm06 demos worked just fine.

It's a shame not to thumb this up, but the loading time is a bit too long considering the file-size. At various points it also manages to reduce my 6600GT to a slide-show at 640x480 without AA. I also found it a bit incoherent, understandable since it was rushed I suppose.
Some of the scenes in this demo is fucking amazing..thumps ub
nice design. somewhat slow here, but it's not like i care.
Simply rulez. Eats my RAM tho.
yeah
a video would be nice for all the crapmachine owners. but what i remember from the composcreening, the demo was EXTREMELY nice.
Thanks Smash, it's moved now (see video link).
BTW, if anyone wants to see the compo capture without that annoying diggari.fi logo, the entire assembly demo compo can also be watched at demoscene.tv

BLIA, razve demo delautsia chtoby smotret' ih v mpeg formate? Ebanyi v rot! Fairlight, zaebal! Uchites' normalno pisat' sheidery svoi ebanye!
Fairlight has to be my favourite demogroup on pc. This demo is so beautiful and well done. The soundtrack is very nice aswell. The choice of colors and the textures are lush and well chosen.
The quality of the demo drops a bit at the skull scene and the scene just after it (the tree with the butterflies) but overall, this is one great demo!

Awesome design, lots of nice effects and a soundtrack with an attitude (the moppi references might be true, but i strongly prefer this one). The postprocessing effects make it look awesomely low-fi without any "oh, look, a layer of noise" cliche.
Only "downside" is that after a few seconds I started to hope the backwards camera movement would continue that way throughout the whole demo. Sadly it didn't. Next time perhaps? ;)

No love for this demo :(
The style isn't my taste.
i hope the mention of a coming remix is true, if the demo had the same quality all the way through it would be really awesome
ok, pc section of fairlight does kick ass
not putting the infofile is a bad habbit.
who's behind the music btw?
who's behind the music btw?
and, since it was rather slow on dual2x opteron/4g ram/radeon x800gt machine, i'm rather interested, what should i do to run this demo smoothly?
the definition of style!
shit. this demo really really cought me.
imho this should have won and schall win some scene.org awards!!
i pray for some _decent_ video capture or a final version.

tone, the music is by northboundsound. Check it out.
my godness !
the new moppi's in town :)

My computer mostly died from this. So the video made it for this time.
No my pants are dirty.
This is awesome. Can't wait to see it with a better quality.
I second KB with the backward camera effect. It would have been so nice to develop this idea a little bit deeper.

Holy fuck!!
This is one of those rare demos that I watched with my mouth open. The presentation and design is phenomenal and the intro sequence is mindblowingly cool! Absolutely amazing!!!
My only complaint is the specs are too high for the average user! If it wasn't so memory and CPU hungry, I'd make this my coup de couer. But it's not very enjoyable to watch in realtime and I'm not ready to upgrade yet.

Killah Soundtrack and very very good overall presentation... One of the best!
not my style but this prod is just so slick! great design, great track. tbl owns em, though.
nice tune and great visuals. the growing lines has always been a cool effect and it never looked better than here. but flow and pace of the music and visuals just don't belong together. some strange scenes, too - would have liked it even better without skulls and At-ATs.
The intro scene is pure design gold! Very professional. Music is also top-notch. Some of the later scenes are great (Kewlers style dust-tentacle, massive growing thing) while some are not-so great.
Still a very thumb-up worthy production.

wry: I also had the same problem with d3dx9_30.dll. :( I ran dxdiag.exe and it said no problems. I also searched for d3dx9_30.dll and it is not on my three HDDs.
I am using the newest NVIDIA driver for my 6800 video card (128 MB; AGP).
I am using the newest NVIDIA driver for my 6800 video card (128 MB; AGP).
OK. I found a fix for d3dx9_30.dll problem. Go to http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_30 and download it. Extract to where the demo is and start it. No more problems. I read that this was from the SDK and software are supposed to come with it. It seems like Fairlight didn't include it in its demo. :(
Demo was OK. I like the old effects, but nothing else shocked me. :(

for d3dx9_30.dll, I also had the error message, and after I installed the latest dx9 drivers, it worked just fine.

must say that after the party I've found this one to be the best demo at assembly, if any demo deserves a cdc, this is the one.
congrats on the bestest demo guys
congrats on the bestest demo guys
Just great.
jag gillar hur ni äger varenda grafikbyrå där ute i ett svep, med ett realtidsdemo mot deras löjliga madonnavideos. fan det riktigt kittlar till i mjukosten!
my all time favorite demo, best inspiration ever.
One of my favourite demos
Some crazily good stuff in here. A bit more polish and a remix, and this could be a contender for best demo ever. (Ok, and a version that runs on my pc would help, or at least a decent video!)
jeah ... a next level demoscene prod!
design and music are awesome.
and I really felt in love with these vector graffitti-snakes
congrats!

supreme stuff!
i enjoyed to watch the start of the demo. After it was only nice. (surely difficult to done for sure)
not my test
not my taste
i fucked it up \o/
i enjoyed it! <3 bass at-at
The demo is excellent! Talking about sountdrack, it looks like SFX missed (something like robot's stomps, wind over the road, etc.). Really, add some sound effects and you'll get even greater demo.
different, original, repetitive ... but i like it!
full of fairlight-esque goodness
hm, not really great quality video here:
ftp://ftp.untergrund.net/users/acryd/videos/fairlight-track_one.avi
a shame, the lofi-effects seem to hurt compression quite heavily. (video made with a hacked together version of kkapture, i'll see what i can do do stabilize that code :).

Ryg: thanks for the video. Perfect or not, its miles better than the party video!
i have seen this stars before ..... aye on eurosports TV channel .. nevertheless respect for using the l8est ´highend hard/soft´ ..
i hope i is not the common way ....
do not buy the stuff -- USE the stuff

nicely done...
Got this to run ok on my aging 2.6 5900 box with new dx9.0c. I've seen a few of these effects before from FLT. But the clip-art stop motion style in the beginning was great. Just dissapointed it didn't continue throughout. Seems rather disjointed. Great soundtrack from Smash as usual (is there ever question?), just not an 'overwhelming' prod. Good stuff here and there.
this production it's really good. so fucking good!
Yeah, I liked Smash's soundtrack too!
Props for being impressive AND boring at the same time :)
thx for the video ryg!
So original, so beautiful. this is a must seen Demo!
Great demo!
really great one
great
it's for sure one of the most stylish and beautiful demos ever released!!!
amazing.
finally managed to watch it running realtime. pretty decent.
WHOO.
Eats lotsa RAM though.
Eats lotsa RAM though.
a true masterpiece
"lotsa" is an understatement... something way above 400 MB... WHAT FOR? I'm really curious.
contains some very nice parts! i especially liked the kid eating the apple with the logo and that seal with the two lions and a floppy disk. the music is sometimes too rjd2´ish and a bit too flat but overall nice. definitely one of the nicer demos that came out lately!
too much of a memory pig, learn how to simplify your scenes or stream objects into memory on demand
Quote:
give us a few weeks or so and we'll fix a remix which should hopefully be what this demo _should_ have been. :)
Still looking at a few weeks or so? :)
Hmmm... how about a compromise... booze?
that plant generation thing is just truly amazing. good demo.
amazing mix of different styles. the single segments look really great and even fit very well together as a whole.
best demo since years. great gfx/design, cool music and pretty clever effects.
I've come to enjoy this a lot. And I never really thought I would. Guess I'm growing up. Bummer. Anyways, very nice 2d!
the fish was out of place but i love it:)
Nice and smooth demo. The music is great! I didn't like the butterflies flocking like fish around a tree scene though.
I didn't thumb this up yet? gotta be kidding me. Love supreme. Best design and music in a loooong time.
wow. zik rox.
roxx
lovely
although sluggish on my 6600GT
where's the nfo ? who made the music ? reed ?

MAGEFUCKINGS!!
I can not believe how this won over dietes. Its not even the same league in most respects. (esp code and music)
i thought this was good.... but not quite demo of the year good.... showed me. (not a fan of dieties, kind of glad it didnt get it)
downloaded zik, cant get enough of it.
downloaded zik, cant get enough of it.
it deserved its best demo award, definitely. i think raverboyz are crying foul because it doesn't go boom boom. :) maybe it's just too brilliant for them.
legalize's thumb down is all the more reason for my thumb up.
legalize's thumb down is all the more reason for my thumb up.
watching this with a brand new gfxcard helps (geforce 7600GT with AMD2400+ 1Gb RAM)... This is so nice. I wish all the demos can be like that. And now that I've been able to watch lots of missed demos because of loosy hardware, I am wondering what's so brilliant about some overhyped demos (Look at my eyes).
Great job dudes.
Great job dudes.
I liked it a lot at the compo and it's been growing on me ever since.
love it! great style!
it's... perfect !
This one is gorgeous.
looks and sounds outstanding.. and i really like those black particles everywhere around :)
Good sound, good design, bad code.
Nice music.
As usual, I love the Fairlight extrusion effects. Some _awesome_ 2d art here, and I like the spin on the classic Fairlight logo in the beginning. Overall a very solid demo and one of the year's best. Unfortunately, not as exciting as many other demos :)
did the final, less memory hogging version ever get released
Music absolutely rules. Design is great. True masterpiece.
If Fairlight was a girl I would do her!
Dazzling. Great one.
Same as Drunk_Poet : Masterpiece !
The long-running zoomer and building are awesome!
Oozes style!
Your best. Imho.
Having a sense of quite a lot of work behind this one doesn't make me thumb it up.
Why?
Because it's all a bit dull.
The effects are fine enough, but they're not presented with surprise - the "boom" factor is definately missing. I find it hard to explain exactly what is missing - perhaps it's more upbeat music, but the track in itself is technically OK. Only I find it slightly boring. Maybe that's the reason? Maybe I'm just not THAT into stuff from Smash? (Shocking, I know!).. Dunno...

Wow, how the hell haven't I commented on this? Saw it back then on the screen and immediately fell in love. Gotta love the gfx & design. The code doesn't suck either. ;-)
Sorry to ay, but for me this is just a piggy. The starting zoom is cool and the Stalker with Speakers is a cool object anyway.
The latest Fairlight demos have been incredible, but this is the one that stands out most for me.
It was one of those rare demos that caused my jaw to drop, especially from the perspective of design.

one of my favorites!
this awesome shit must be rekkaptured.
Zis me liiiek
Great demo.
Great.
Contains quite a lot of eye candy, too bad that the overall appearance is just that of an ordinary street style demo
rulez
Brilliant!
Loved it. :) Capped.TV Capture
Only thing that bothered me was the film-effects on it, rather distracting.

Some parts of this I think are really good, but some parts I just hate. Pig.
cool

Thumb up.
grrrrreat!
This one has got a really peculiar feel to it. Maybe my fav among FLT's productions.

After rewatch and rewatch its a thumb up demo
good
Amazing soundtrack and love the style throughout the demo.
wow how could i have missed that? great!
geil!
One of the best demos I've seen on ages, and it barely have any comments or views. Really-really surprises me! Cheers for a excellent production
like the soundtrack - nice
smootish never seen it before i saw it now on the Tokyo Demofest stream
With a nice flow
entertaining
wow! really great demo! I'm surprised of the quality :D
Inspirational, watched it so often - and after years it helped me to come up with an idea for an invitation that was loosely based on one of the first scenes in this one.
The tune and style is just to damn awesome, and never get's old - I really still enjoy this after all these years.
A big aha moment was when I watched mindcandy with comments on, and learned that this prod was done in three days from leftovers - they didn't really explain why the butterflies fly backward though :)

Aha, the butterflies did fly backwards in parts! Kinda seemed like it. Anyway, didn't detract from it at all. Very well done.
Superb! Missed this all until now..
Wonderful. :-)
This is a really good demo.
Fairlight
more of this please
i still kinda dislike the statically lit barely shaded "bad PS2 prototype graphics" looking 3D parts, but ultimately this has remained quite enjoyable over the years
the soundtrack still left much more potential to explore tho, but i get it =)

rly cool graphic design, but some of the middle scenes were meh, like the robot.
and as noby said, the music could use more exploration.
