3d story about lone pulse boy. awesome music!
Trop d'la bombe cette demo.
Great 3d demo with a good story.
You must see it

There were certain clearly visible limitations to the visuals, but it was a tour-de-force despite that. The particle scene is still one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.
I was liing in bed while loking at this one, and I had to wake up in the particle scene, because is simply spectacular! I love the scene with the zoom in the child eyes, too!
it's a pity that it always crashes in the end (at least on the 2 computers I was able to test)

great 3d adventure, with some interesting 2d effects, and very nicelooking particle-effects (see screenshot). music is by masterminds falcon and scorpik and is really a key to the demo's great atmosphere.
Cool music and a story. And one of the most popular particles scene.
most psychedelic storyline/demo i've ever seen... It shows how much more impressing true inspiration can be vs. technical ability.... Just great even that many years after.... I only hope someday more will come...
a really great demo with some weird "story".. has a "adventure"-feeling over it..
really nice looking 3d for that time, models and animation as well as graphics and music is also superb. And that particle scene seen on the screenshot is just wonderful. You've got to see this one...

Coooool demo.Very psychedelic, like same crazy scary dreams i had when i was a little kid.Watch it...a must have...Watch it NOW!
Discordant nonsense.
Some nice stylish stills by Alex and a nice particle scene, but the bad outweighs the good.

Especially the 2nd part and its music are of timeless beauty.
It was nice the first time, then it got way boring...
too bad that I underestimated this product for long time since square was a firstwatch hit to my eyes and every product winning it felt bad.
..but I can see that this one has one of the most perfect atmospheres ever.

Nice, original with story, I love this
had to vote for this masterpiece
the BEST!
It remembers me a lot the mood (and other things) of Final Fantasy games so... hm, well 8P
very cool.
characters are a bit too 'pointy-eared', but that's understandable for year 97.. 8}

Holy cow, is this ever boring...
...and incoherent.
...and incoherent.
probably the first great 3d demo. i still consider this one one of my most important inspirations, the best 3d art demo so far.
funny, that people rate this thing as boring, i feel a lot better now when they also think my stuff boring. :)

this is actually one of the few 3d-demos, that have a nice storyline ...
and i like the mixture with 2dpics
nice demo!!

beautiful
watching this on the bigscreen at the party 97, was amazing. Thanks Pulse & Melon for this piece of art. I love it
excellent 'camerawork' and music.
i love this demo
i love this demo
nice
visually it's really nice but I never understood what was the story about and the whole demo really has an unfinished feeling :/
A bit boring, but it sure is well made.
Great demo.
good textures, interesting gfxs, interesting low polys style
story is boring (i don't understand why she want to kill this black rabbit), but some scenes are cool like the scene with the particules and columns

:) and story is great
let me see thru your eyes
atmospheric
Despite some major flaws... classic.
good gfx and everything thumbs up!
Great stuff.
A bit boring, but still quite nice.
had lots of bugs but had lots of love
<3
This totally blew me away when it was shown on the bigscreen at TP.
flybye.
t'was nice... good fx and design and such, but if i recall correctly, zbuffering would have made this 100x better, the graphical problems were obvious even for the time. Checkout Fulcrum too for something similar but slightly more advanced. Good stuff anyway.
Most touching particle scene ever.
i never liked the demo but the music is kicking the ass!
classic <3
Particle scene <3
Well, 3D flyby.
Still one of the best demos ever, imo.
Great soft3d engine and lots of nice effects. The scanline effects that they have all through the demo are kind of annoying. Methinks someone was trying to cut down on the number of pixels they needed to render...
:D
Great demo! Had some excellent atmospheric sections, like the particle scene.
Good mood, fantasy style.
whoah, how i like the music of the second part
I can't say I ever really understood this demo type. It was the first time I ran into the story-style after hearing everyone raving about it and was left wondering. Sure, it has some beauty in it and it was a good effort technically for it's time too but there isn't much of a story or jaw-dropping effects here. Not downright bad but mostly for the Pulse-fans and storydemo-enthusiasts.
Very nice one... unfortunatly it never worked 100% on my machine back then. Any video capture somewhere?
great demo, a classic
though i never liked the model of the boy, my favorite parts of demos are the 2d works ;) and this one had some great ones by melon dezign. i also like intentionally vague storylines. also has a really good score.
on of my all time favorites
Good camera usage and superb music provides unique atmosphere to this excellent demo. Oh don't forget the scene with particles and some good 2d artwork.
=)
The thumb up is for the attempt of some real narrative. However, the story makes very little sense and didn't (regrettably) start a boom of storydemos.
I cannot resist to add a thumb up on this demo, because this is one of my all time favorites.
fuckin boring
i hate this one
i hate this one
Videolink added.
nice
yeah! perfect demo for it's time! its the deserved winner.
btw, win version does not work...

the win wrapper does work.
probably THE PC demo that can match TBL quality :D
the email and url addies feel a bit outdated :>

not my favourite from that compo.. but yet oh so nice
wow
Incredible graphics!
daaamn, no thumbs up from me yet?
wow, hadn't seen this once since a long time. great one.
Damn.. no comments? I just had a talk with a friend of mine of all time demos that have had a big impact not only to the scene but also personally. Tribes definitely was a big hit at TP7, so much ahead of its time. Great mood and 3d.
nearly ten years since this came out, and it still rocks :)
I love the music, 2d artwork, and atmospheric particle scene. However, I can't help but feel that this should have needed more work.
Odyssey mk.2 for DOS people. Ambitious, has lots of quality work and effort in it, but simply too boring for most of the time. The particle scene still looks great though, as do most of the 2D gfx.
!!!
You gotta love that story about the rat-face boy and his overgrown, black squirrel!
I'll thumb this one up, because moppi prod. has made boring 3d storytelling demos even a few years a go that look almost like this.
But seriously, this is boring.
But seriously, this is boring.
remarkably cool demo with fantastic tune by scorpik
Great 3D with a story =)
People keep mentioning that this prod has a story. Eh, what story? "Uh, I'm a boy in Utah on Mars, just strolling along. Uh, what's that? Giant flying boats? A girl aiming a triangular barrelled gun at that weird cat? Oh, and what the FUCK is this multicoloured dust? Oh, the floor is breaking away. Aaaaah! A GIANT GREEN HEAD! NOOOOO!".
Seriously, WHAT story?
Oh, and the prod is very boring in itself, but I guess quite a lot of work was put into this one, kinda like we did with Quest. The music is good, though...

pretty crap to be honest (even considering its release date)
flipping awesome particle system, but meh meh demo overall. Piggie!
For being 1997, this is good.
very ambitious for 1997
ok... its dated, but I still like it
i got people inside!
rather boring flyby
this was just a masterpiece. still is even though the resolution is low nowadays. it was great in 97.
boring flyby
very boring
kinda boring and music asks for a thumb down.
BUT
with the particle system used in this demo, you could totally do agenda circling forth back in the 1997

Nice directing; awesome amount of work.
Fantastic music, and I do believe in 1997 this was impressive. Pity I haven't seen this demo when it was released, surely it would rock my mind.
Instant thumbup for the fantastic music!
This blew me away in 1997...especially the sequence from the screenshot. It's a pitty about the z-buffer problems in an otherwise competent 3d-engine.
Amongst top 10 best demos ever made on any platform for me. Still remember watching this for the first time with my jaw on the floor. Everything is perfectly balanced - story, editing, music, code work. Would love to see nowadays remix with quality of the 3d pumped up. Love it.
A milestone!
Kind of nice 3D, apart from the very low-poly "main character". Textures were good. Unfortunately that does not save the complete experience from being utterly boring and seemingly rather pointless. A more "demoish" take with the same tech might've been better, dunno.
Today I found this demo production by accident and remembered that I watched it that time. It is ok and I like particles part.
Particle scene is still great but "story"demos suck = piggie.
I watched this for the first time last weekend, on a real machine. Good demo! Though I don't particularly care about story stuff and the huge polygons must have looked just as ugly in 1997 as they look now.
Even with the Windows wrapper, the Windows version doesn't seem to run here, probably because it's really just a thing wrapper and thus won't work on x64? And yes, also crashes in DOSBox towards the end(?)
Anyway, butt-ugly 3D but the particle part was nice. :) And a great soundtrack, of course.

This demo has not aged very well. It was much more impressive when it came out, and the cinematic, "epic" style surely blew away the audience at The Party 7. But the laughably low poly count, flawed/confusing direction, and rather silly graphics make it less enjoyable for me than more traditional, less movie-like demos of the time. Okay, the particle scene is still beautiful.
Ran it in DOSBox SVN with the -bigmem parameter, 32MB RAM. Worked fine.
Ran it in DOSBox SVN with the -bigmem parameter, 32MB RAM. Worked fine.
In retrospect, this is probably the only DOS demo that attempted to produce a cinematic experience and managed to somehow pull it off. There's excellent and vastly underestimated scene direction, a great soundtrack, texturing that works(!), memorable scenes galore (particle dome, alien head touchdown, b/w limbo lights, etc.); by comparative scale, there's nothing even remotely as ambitious in the scene today and given the vastly superior tech we have these days, that is kinda sad.
i guess i'll give pig for this one.
Everything was really well done. But the particle scene in the screenshot is just magic!
The scene in the screenshot is just epic and magic. Even if the direction is quite off, this tells a story. And not everything is about style and coherency! Real beauty evolves from perfect moments.
I remember being blown away by this in 1997. Must have watched it dozens of times, even though i could never find a pc configuration that ran it all the way through without crashing. It had a story and a real sense of wonder about it, and I don't remember much else coming close at that time.. rose-tinted spectacles maybe? Anyway... yes it is flawed but I still love it :)
Has its moments (particle scene) but is pretty boring.
I've never seen it without a crash in the end, but consistent story and camera work makes it great, and still worth watching.
This is one of those demos I watched probably a hundred times back in the days, but I was today years old, when I found out it has a final version, that doesn't crash near the end. I downloaded it, and it ran to the end on my DOS machine. One thing off the bucket list.
was massive back in days!
