Simply great!
Very nice and characteristic compositions ,continuing and evolving the style and sound from its predesessor Awakening Part1.
The woodwind and flute melodies leave a formative impression and are highly recognizeable!
Where are the sounds from?
Sample libraries or even recorded live?
(I mean only the sounds ,the melodies are of course composed by Defactor!)
My favourites are the epic battle tunes. Liked that Mystic Forest tune very much ,too.
The grafix are even better than in part 1.
My favourite out of the new pictures is that NOrthern Elite Guard (Yeah dude ,kick some ass!). :)

Wow! I already liked the first one but this is really great as well. Respect, Defactor! You truly managed to write some extremely atmospheric tracks in this musicdisk. Keep up the great work!

the tunes were of better quality in the other one, some samples actually sound too artificial.
great tracks, nevertheless. and stunning graphics.

What melody is it that Magic Collgium is ripping off? It sounds like Lord of The Rings, I am sure that I have heard it before.
well some parts are ripped from baldurs gate soundtrack ... and beside of this the sound sounds somehow like 4ch mods...
gfx saves it

despite some parts of "magic collegium" make an impression that this track might sounds similar to baldur's gate or lotr soundtrack I can ensure you: nothing was ripped.

Some guy wrote this words in a similar discussion: There are thousands (many more)of musicians worldwide writing music. A great number of new songs every day. So there is quite a chance that some melodies ,chords ,or whatsoever can sound similar ,especially in pieces of the same genre.
Of course somewhere in some time in some case this may have been done on purpose.

But I am convinced that a musician with Defactor's qualities doesn't need to do that.

I admit the parts do sound quite similar. But I believe this to be a random case.

Or maybe Defactor liked that part that much that he implemented it and forgot to give credits ,but I don`t think.

That question can only be answered by Defactor himself properly.

dungeons + dragons themed demos?! Not my taste at all, but thumb up cause the quality is great and the hard work shows.

This production brought to the scene what I have been missing for quite some time. Fantasy-inspired work, it may not work for everyone, but among computer geeks there are alot of people who are into the whole fantasy escapism thing. I sure hope you make many more like it. Perhaps with a full-screen mode and some text to read with each song? Could be a story, something about the process of making it, or anything at all really.

Keep up the good work!

with brilliant highres art
rulez added on the 2006-04-28 01:48:24 by cc0 cc0
i too give the thumbs for works heading in this, different direction. I very much enjoyed the highres visuals and presence of the musicdisk, prods like this excite me.
Well done Defactor; you could try adding more parameters (like modulation+filters for bagpipes, volume accents on percussion) for more 'mistake' like realism, as well as maybe benefit from more progressive harmony (rather than octaves see what 6ths/4ths/2nds will do)..
it's still good tho, especially "the battle for ostillium" - which does it for me

that's pleasant to have a prod like this coming just like for the purpose of being released to the scene.
The work of tunes is great and the ambiance is overally smooth.
However, my opinion, the tunes sound just a bit like "oh, this new classical instruments soundbank VSTi is very cool and I will use it all the way".
It often sounds artificial and the themes are sometimes usual and common IMO. But I appreciate the whole work. Good job.

Wow. These are amazing.

I'd say the Battle of Ostilliam and Magic Collegium are the best on here... they're going into my playlist rotation.

About the only cricism I can offer is that the horns in particular sound very fake, especially on Fields of Erinor. That, and "Magic Collegium" conjured (ha) up a very different picture- crumbling Celtic ruins with jesters, peasants and animals running about while scholars/wizards wander the grounds.

Oh, the bonus song is also awesome, though the fiddle doesn't match up so well with the voices. You're clearly good at smooth Celtic-sounding music.
