note, it's geforce+ only..
added on the 2002-04-02 10:48:30 by bhead bhead
Great beginning with goodlooking 3d scene + eye....those had good framerate, but then I think the demo dies with some effects that doesnt look any good and has worser framerate than that goodlooking stuff in the beginning.
added on the 2002-04-02 11:03:45 by Wain Wain
Uh...I'm not sure, but isn't that eye a 1:1 copy from the VIP2 eye (with better textures)?

Apart from that, it's not very inspired stuff. There's plenty of poly-pumping, but it's not a real kicker.
added on the 2002-04-02 11:18:15 by Shifter Shifter
shifter: no, the eye is actually a just a higher poly version of the girl's face, not a copy.
this demo is nvidia only for now im afraid, maybe the final will be different. =)

after the demoshow i was sure this would be top3 but now i think it´s more like okay.
added on the 2002-04-02 19:30:43 by fiver fiver
now this bad mutha has definitely put my puny config to shame.. even my trusty gf3 was choking at 5fps at some moments! I wonder what it was coded on, some hi-end sgi workstation, tucked deep in smash's garage? 8)
lotsa eye candy, nice 3d (the girl smells of poser a little, but I don't mind), good romantic tune. the 'big city girl dreams of nature'-theme may be a bit tired and wussy, but this one's still an acihevement, I'd say.
rulez added on the 2002-04-02 19:53:59 by bhead bhead
a lot of people have moaned about the speed, so let me explain a bit =)
the 3d engine with all realtime light and shadows that you see in the first part should be pretty fast on a gf2 and a reasonable cpu. but some of the fx, especially when the crossfades are on, are a bit slow. the environment map bumpmapping for example is really slow. =)
sorry, sorry. i really should have optimised some fx more. maybe for final you'll see a massive speed injection :D

ohyeh. the modelling did not use poser, just to set that straight. just a good 3d artist =)
added on the 2002-04-02 20:04:06 by smash smash
no poser there, all done from scratch from a single polygon, maybe the reason it looks like a poser model is that she has big tits! i think :)
added on the 2002-04-02 20:13:38 by sUICIDe sUICIDe
One of the finest demo for a long time. Should have deserved much higher place - this demo beats any haujobb production any day but still placed 8th after that channel made it to 4th.

this is actually quite nice. definitely the best fairlight demo i've ever seen. should have placed better.

i could only watch this in a window.

suicide: no.. in fact I found her face a bit poser-like 8) but I don't care really

Nice to see a prod that really pushes the envelope. But this really brought my Geforce 2Ti to its knees... It is beautiful nevertheless and the music too!

The music is great, The beginning is really nice-looking, but quality is lowering when getting at the end of the demo ... but a good prod. nevertheless ! :)

The part with the walking girl is really cool! She looks and moves quite convincingly. Some of the other bits are good too, but I couldn't see an obvious connection between scenes. Just sort of a mish-mash of ideas. But thumbs up for the chick!!!

Crashes hard at the intro part w/ the girl walking. Ath1.4, 512mb, GF2Pro, Win98.. v22.50 drivers not new enough for you? (still using em cuz they're the fastest in win9x)

Athlon XP 1800, Geforce 2 MX 400, 512MB RAM, Windows XP.
Detonator drivers are 27.42.

i really should bugfix this =)
has anyone actually got it working properly, fullscreen, in winxp? ive heard it works in windowed mode.. but ive been unable to test it at all yet.

really dont know about the crash on yours phoenix, its always worked on 98 as far as i can tell.. maybe it is the drivers.

send bugreports to smaash@yahoo.com please and i'll try to fix it =)

This is pretty good. Too bad my computer didn't seem to be powerful enough to run it (900MHz duron, gf2, 256Mb). The animation (of the girl) looks very nice and music is good.
rulez added on the 2002-04-23 07:58:11 by teel teel
Great demo!
nice gfx, nice music, nice (but slow :) code.

most parts run at full framerate on my setup (which quite frankly is the only setup I care about :), except for the scene when there are some 3d-stash behind the teared painting of some mountain-landscape. On the other hand, that scene runs at maybe 3fps or something.
Setup: Athlon1200/Gf2Ti64mb/384mbRAM/win98se/dx8.1
Thumb down: will come if not running in full framerate in the final version ;)
added on the 2002-04-23 08:48:13 by lug00ber lug00ber
excellent code (except the embm part which runs at 5 fps), great gfx, great music...

why wasn't it ranked in the top3?
rulez added on the 2002-05-02 20:28:49 by nystep nystep
Looks a little bit rough in places, but on the whole, a magnificent demo.

I especially like the opening sequence, which seemed quite reminiscent of the Silent Hill games. I'd love to see this style developed further.

Definitely deserved to place higher...much higher.
rulez added on the 2002-05-04 18:02:59 by Wade^Hjb Wade^Hjb
Compatibility problems? Heck, it even runs in Linux here ;-) Very nice and "soft" look at places, and most of the parts fit well into the `dream' setting. Could have used better graphics (the landscape, for instance, just isn't very pretty) and perhaps music at times, and the framerate definitely needs improving -- but overall, a very convincing production.
rulez added on the 2002-06-12 20:29:16 by Sesse Sesse
The eye part reminds me of the scene in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. :)
added on the 2002-06-15 01:20:16 by Cesar Cesar
There's a tiny bug... sometimes it won't start right away... starting a few times usually fixes it, or running another demo first...

But well, when it runs, it rocks me :)
The music is incredible, it touches me in a way, and the scenes fit the music nicely... I especially like the sun-part that is also shown in the screenshot.
The part where the woman walks on water(?) is also great.
And well, something just happens when the girl says "If you can see it in front of you, why not?"... Dunno :)
Rulez!

Hey, were is my comment? I forgot that!
This is a very favorite demo of mine. Negative is that in 1 or 2 moments the demo goes really slow for some weird reasons :(
Beautifull demo! I have put the music in my MP3 folder, listening to it many times..
Fairlight are my favorite now!
rulez added on the 2002-11-14 10:22:27 by Optimus Optimus
fabulous textures & modelling. the first scene absolutely rocks, i haven't seen anything that realistic in quite some time. one thing puzzled me... is the girl supposed to walk through walls, or is that a bug? :)

the rest is nice too, except for the framerate drop that occurs even on a GF4.

i also like the music a lot.

Now that I upgraded my NVidia drivers, I can *finally* watch this thing! Nice, soothing visuals and music. But, never, NEVER, end a demo with a still picture! (unless it has your group name or says The End or something :) A few parts were a bit slow on my Athlon1400/GF2, but oh well.

runs perfectly with latest detonator drivers and xp, full screen or windowed.

Very nice stuff indeed. The flow is very good, its consistent, the effects are good, and the 2d/3d is also nice. I'd like more demos like that.
