can you tell me if you random pick IP numbers in demo (down-left corner) or with intention?
I didn't try it all but for example 129.42.19.99 is IBM web site....
added on the 2005-04-01 00:39:16 by calimero calimero
Calimero: nope its NOT randomly picked. The IP-Addresses are from ATARI.ORG, TSCC.DE and IBM.COM (IBM has many addresses but we just needed one - check the lyrics - there is a connection ;) )
added on the 2005-04-01 08:33:37 by ltk_tscc ltk_tscc
in some ways this demo is better than everything that has been done on falcon before: the music and concepts i mean. i really enjoy the flow of this product which is very slick. in terms of code the 1x1 gouraud worlds are very nice although they could be faster (don't hit me!). all screen have got background effects or stills and there are overlays too, which is the maximum you can expect from a basic falcon. bravo tscc! :))

...must admit that i've watched it again several times, just because i couldn't get that music out of my head. so this demo, apparently, can't be as bad as i thought.
however, that green gouraud-thing, which is also the only full-screen effect, is still ugly ;) and too much of the rest reminds me of an '94 envmap show.

herrV: thank you, i was aware of the hardware specification (but i'm not an atari-coder, so you probably have a point).

The music is bloody annoying, the green gouraud-scenes look horrible and there's way too much repetition which pretty much kills the flow. Some of the gfx were nice though.

I would usually thumb down this kind of stuff, but fearing the usual atari-retaliation I'll just give it a piggie ;)

This is a cool demo with great music. (Note that if you cannot fit the Falcon demo on floppy, you can lower the bitrate of the 'Beams.mp2' track. Don't change the frequency though as it will screw it up.)

One thing that sucks a little is the Falcon MP2 tracks are only in Mono, whereas the TT MOD files are in stereo. It would have been nice to see the Falcon version use 16 bit MOD's in stereo.
rulez added on the 2012-05-23 09:02:34 by 10p6 10p6
Quick update to my last comment. WTF.

So with some tinkering, I just found out that you can play Stereo MP2 files providing that: A. you keep the sample rate at 32 Khz, and B. You rename the MP2 file to 'Beams.mp2.' Furthermore, it will play 128K music tracks without any problem.

So one must ask again, why did the TT get stereo MOD music, when the Falcon only got a Mono MP2 file?
added on the 2012-05-23 10:47:57 by 10p6 10p6
10p6: Pretty simple answer... to keep the filesize as low as possible... first to fit the whole thing onto 1 HD disc and second the make sure it still runs on a standard falcon with 4 MB of RAM.
added on the 2012-05-25 08:57:13 by ltk_tscc ltk_tscc
So, the TT version works on Falcon as well? Nice! Also, the conversion work to MOD-format is top notch!
added on the 2012-05-25 11:24:51 by fiveofive fiveofive
The TT version will work on the Falcon, but you have to change the MOD format to Stereo MP2 Format. I tried it with different songs like 'Tatu - Show me love' for laughs and it is a great player.

I just created a video using the music from this demo, and Subgliep for the Jaguar 'Native' Demo. Check it out. http://youtu.be/C75isKIgfUQ Hope you dont mind ITK_Tscc (great music should not go to waste) I understand about the file size, and hate having to transfer big files on my Falcon.
