was a floating restful moment during compo.
Nice idea and (some) cool photos, great disturbing music... but the execution of it all lacks something... it's terribly boring and imho fails into delivering a solid message (maybe due to some of the phrases). Still it's something else and for that it deserves my thumb up.

Really nice stuff, but ... pretty much defeats commentary. Maybe the text might be better, it's impact is not that clear.
But at least the construction of the demo, its juxtaposition of images that do not follow strictly the narrative suggested by the text is a nice twist.

parapete: i did most of the ugly opengl code, took the photos and generally started the demo. ryg did the image compressor and some last minute fixing, kb did the soundsys, the text and some last minute fixing, rp did the soundscape and chaos also did some last minute fixing. still this is not finished and will be followed by a refined final version. i used opengl since i want to do versions for different os'es, and i forgot the debug info because i was quite wasted.

My problems with the production:
- the pictures where nice but not all where destructive enough to support the intended mood
- reading the text distracted from image / without text, the images would not transport the message
- Too much text, to many images (I always need some seconds to really love a picture)
- The pictures where not abstract enough to turn the "breaking damm" into a metapher. But they were also not clear enough about the acutally happend catastrophy.
I really would like to see the concept of this production given a second try.
btw. I liked it a lot more than fr-046 and it's damn good the have such productions in a demo-compo.

Suggestive athmosphere and beautiful pics. Effectively reading the text made image watching difficult, would a superimposed text be better?

pixtur, It's interesting, I think the minus point you have about the text distracting from the image is actually a plus. As the two are by design in contrast with one another, it feels fitting that there is a tension between one another too :)

this left a goose skin. great concept, supported by a really interesting soundtrack. we need more of this refreshing ideas! it was so obvious, that many sceners don't like this..

the sceond demo of fr after 'konsum' with content, i'd left the ending open, so that the viewer would have to google what its about ... making it more mysterious.

it was a blast. the music was awesome. i knew the photos already, but i really liked the eerie athmosphere it caused.

Not exactly a demo but what the hell? It left me with goosebumps and only one other demo has done that (Kasparov). To achieve that in a slideshow is an achievement. Brilliant soundtrack. BTW - I did a search and couldn't find any info on any dam that collapsed in 1951 where 421 perished. Anyone know about this site?

Gargaj: the 60`s clickery adds extra tension and atmosphere.. or at least i think so :P
hm, the concept of storytelling with pictures was done before (melwyn's heartshaped box) so i was open for the idea, however the content got quite boring after a while. nice photos (nice angles and detail) but the whole story kinda vanished after a while. Good attempt, but it killed my attentionspan, so sorry.. a piggie :)
It is good that the photos transport a more silent than harmful and only slightly mood with abandoned ruins and a dozey landscape... This increases the contrast to what happened quite a lot, not to mention that the prequel to a breaking damm lasts years, the accident itself a few hours and that things turn back to be more silent pretty soon...

I wonder how they got the idea for this "production". But apart from being rather strange for a demo/slideshow/whatever-it-is, it surely had an impact on me as it made me searching the net for more information about this tragedy and it's circumstances. The text also became much clearer to me afterwards.

belane, for some strange reason i liked the place since my parents first showed it to me a few years ago, probably in 1999 or something. i spend some time there whenever i visit cannes. the idea for this is also a few years old, i just did not have proper equipment to take photos before, since my old digital camera just couldnt bash the bishop.

ah, finally, a followup of sorts to fr-05: konsum. :) this photo composition actually has meaning to it, as the photos gradually transition from all-nature to all-man-made. man tries to stop nature, but nature prevails (nature suxx :). the sounds could be interpreted as sounds heard around the dam. this would work well at a gallery room with a projection screen.
