it was sooo terribly long and boring, nevertheless still one of the better entries of the pc demo compo at bp, so worth to check.
Nice homage to the classic videos. Furthermore, who could resist a dolphin with a laser beam on its head?
great stuff! I'll be watching this one for a long time. Can't imagine how people could find it boring.. maybe its that old taste problem again.
Many thanks for everyone involved in bringing us this!
Many thanks for everyone involved in bringing us this!
I'm not a big fan of the repetetive MFX style, but this is a masterpiece! The music was very stale, but the filter effect and the overall presentation worked very well.
I like it. Music is just as monotonic and fitting as you would expect, effects kick ass with the plentiness and especially the old, VHS-simulation RGB-noise makes this a grrreat trip!
\o/
Really cool, I like both visuals and music(s).
The filter looks like Amiga HAM8 truecolor fakemode :)
Fuckings to Usher Feat. Ludacris & L'il Jon
great "laser-reflections" scene!
Not something for everyone, but damn this is great.
Gooooo mfx & kewlers!
Gooooo mfx & kewlers!
Oh god! So perfect! The VHSalike filter is very cool.
Most scenes was extremely good, and some very neat effects. still the music didnt fetch me and the demo was way too long. the cool parts was "over-exposed". i got bored with them
This Finnish orchestra of design and music makes me proud of being born by a Finnish woman!
MFX and Kewlers styles blended with a kick-ass soundtrack couldn't be wrong, really nice work lads!

epical
just the right xmix feel... looping short videoclips is teh shit.. I missed some more garish colours and perhaps some silly transitions to make it even more xmix (am I right here?). The lazer dolphin was a blast
very conceptional and unluckily highly underrated demo. the problem is too many people dont know about those x-mix vhs tapes, i actually only got to know after uncle-x told me. and hugs for some REAL music.
Excellent, best PC contribution at breakpoint
I did the RGB separation filter years ago, but never used in a demo, grrr, it's so well used !
Trippy MFX production :)
Trippy MFX production :)
although not my style, it would deserve a (much) better place. technically the best pc demo at breakpoint
Really nice effects here and then (and many of them), nice filters too, although I guess they were wasted on the bigscreen. It's a little long maybe, and don't use the pc speakers - must have been nice down there, should have won.
captures the corniness of the x-mix tapes with realtime grace. It's been a while since I've seen badly animated swimming creatures (bar those found in amiga demos)
I felt my brain bleeding...and I liked it
sooooo gooood
X-MIX-4: Dave Angel
"Beyond The Heavens"
is one of my favourite mixed CDs.
I don't have original VHS or DVD but i'm fan of X-Mix series since 1996.
MTV and Viva played some X-Mix clips between 199?-2000 i think.
Now music channels show only cheesy trance, bounce hiphop or boysband videos:(
I want "Electronic Beats" back!!!!!!!!
definetly nice try mfx!!!!

Yah ! love the VHS head alignment simulation and the whole Xmix vibe ...
I'd never think I'd ever thumb up a checkerboard or a wobbly dolphin but here it is ;)

Very interesting to watch!
But those fast scene switches combined with the intense noise is probably too much for a tired scener to enjoy for ten minutes. Even though it is not surprising this only ranked fourth, it is still disappointing it did not rank higher.
Nice to see a demo with some laser-like light effects! The dolphins were interesting too. All in all this is very good technically as well as designwise.

mfx and kewlers did it again! you guys are great! some parts are really ugly, but xmix videos were ugly as well ;) the whole djset is great and the last two tunes and the visuals of them (metal things his, laser scene..) are REALLY cool!
It's the true compo winner!!
It's the true compo winner!!
best prod at BP, IMO
just like "what the fuck"? 4th place, arr..
Best prod @ bp!, definitely.
Best from breakpoint, best from anywhere in quite a while. This is the landmark demo that will define early 2004. I don't understand why it placed 4th, but maybe it was a had-to-be-there kind of experience. Regardless, MFX/Kewlers has a demo that can beat your demo.
In response to those saying this was too long, what surprised me wasn't the length by its ability to stay interesting despite. It builds such a mood that I just grew more and more curiuos to see how it would resolve (raytraced lasers rule!) This demo is long, but not monotonous.
Top praise and kudos. I love this demo.

respects technically-wise. excellent artwork, great "bad vhs tape"-simulation and you really caught the xmix-style in there.
but guys: it's sooooooooooooooooo long and boring. make it about 1/3 the length and it definitely would've won

This is SO cliched
This is SO X-Mix
This is SO awesome
Slowly MFX and Kewlers make me question my heterosexuality. I want their babies.

damn, forgot this:
what for a perfect flashback. reminds me to listen to destination planet dream by laurent garnier again. awesome!
Hell yeah!
we want more! we want more! we want more! we want more!
1 The openning scene went on so long i ended up want to kill that dolphin every time i saw him.
2 it was really really hard to actually watch this all the way through it was so damn boring
3 the colour-shift tv type thing effect was the only thing i liked
4 and the lasers were nice

"offe a course"
I liked the music, but the visuals got me sleepy shortly, until the last minutes ... Anyway, nice efforts !
this is just great :)
mfx surely are not perfect demos for competitions, but they dont need competition for this kind of demos. very unique, and yes i still want my old vhs xmix tapes back from timowl/haujobb. they are somewhere in finland now =))
This is not my style. But great work there! Smooth
rulaz muchos
now this is offensive you wankers! ;-)

splendid.
i love the way it combines those so cliche visual elements with the music.
go vjing, go.

Very boring and hurts my eyes.
YES!! That bluriness makes it look so fucking cool - if more demos used that we would be back on track. And the sound is fucking wicked!
(and as others have said - the lazer show looks... made me wanna rave!)
(and as others have said - the lazer show looks... made me wanna rave!)
Well, a bit long but still really cool. I love the filter and the whole show a lot. It never tends to get boring to me, I am just diving inside it and scenes changes, cool work, I voted it for 2nd.
ok, this is so cool!
demoscene goes music video :D very well done guys.
this is pure excellence.
instant classic
The VHS simulation effects are so damn well done that it deserves a rulez only for that. Visuals and music are just great.
SuPerB! guys! great FX +sincro +code combination.
two "bad" aspects for me:
Not soo original, it seems like a commercial vDJ wannabe product
During the last minute all the framerate goes to a pain in my arse, slooow (win98+P3+Radeon9200)

long and boooooooring.
I liked this one, so thumbs.
Note: I'd like this one even more if it would be a bit shorter ;)

A bit too long I think, but otherwise quite a piece =)
long boring, flashing "mfx-like" crap
huh. first I thought: ugh, dolphins. ugh, buddhas. then I thought: why is it so boring and so long? a demo is not a VJ-set!
But then I realized it's some sort of hommage to boring videos from the 90s and there are also a few nice scenes (like the one with the blue light-rays). Also the buggy VHS/RGB stuff is nice. Makes a weak thumb up.

cool idea to remix the x-mix series!
i love it!
i love it!
I really loved it .. Combining nostalgia and perfect execution, lots of content, many climaxes.. Overall it is both entertaining and something you can watch over and over again.
It didn´t look that impressive on the bigscreen, but back at home its well continued X-MIX atmosphere catched me immediately. I´d like to give two thumbs up (and mybe a third for beeing nostalgish).
maybe I should copy it to VHS tape as well ;)
too long and boring, always the same fx...
"always the same fx" .. how is that different than just about 90% of all demos ever released?
I would like to emphasize again: This is *so* well executed, *so* full of taste, it looks *so* freaking good..
I'm just completely jealous.
Congratulations, MFX & Kewlers :)

fucking awesome. haven't had a feeling like this from a demo for a long time. completely out classes everything i've seen lately.
should have won the compo in my opinion
best demo of the last few years.
I'm sorry.. but.. there's some really great shit in there, and this demo could have been insanely good, but the music.. it's fucking horrible..
I pressed the ESC key =/

although i didn't like it initially, the more i watch it the better it becomes...
this is a _very_ good demo indeed!
this is a _very_ good demo indeed!
contains some neat stuff but it's fucking BORING, the music is bad as well. piggie!
Must be the best demo of all times, screw all demos of the last two years. This one comes with a message and with style. The only demo that comes ever close is "Dope" and maybe "Chimera".
Thank you, for releasing the only worthwhile production at BP04.
Thank you, for releasing the only worthwhile production at BP04.
i'd like to order this on vhs please.
fucking good
My love of the demoscene is on this demo by MFX and Kewlers and thank you for good time not wasted. :))))
hmm, ok, i don't really like it, a bit boring, a bit long, and i hate the noise fx (the bad quality television like). But there's still nice ideas in there, and i just love the music, exactly the kind of "gay" house i like ;)
Absolutly best PC-prod in party. It did not work so good in big screen than in my monitor. Every time I watch this I found some new features. Just a great demo.
enjoyable for the whole ten minutes of it
great demo
great demo
Even though this is great in every aspect, I still somehow prefer A Significant Deformation Near the Cranium. Not that it prevents me from giving it a thumbs up.
A bit boring, yes, but the music is great, the vhs filters rock and this looks so much like good old mtv partyzone.
Sorry, no.
One of the most stylish demos I've seen in years. A lot of attention to details and a great success in capturing the real feeling of mixtapes. Two thumbs up!
VHS filter is very good! novative, i like a lot the little corner wich disapear sometimes on top-left
dolphin idea sucks and is bad animated
perhaps too long sometimes, looping same scenes
music is not very good, too much old fashionned for my taste (i dislike 1983 teckno ;] )
blue lazershow scene is very cool
like old 80's movie clips done by computer, thumb up for vhs filter, 80's athmosphere and finished/worked result.

rules... maybe a bit long, but that's okay i guess ;P
A bit long but very hypnotic, definitely not for epileptic people, reflecting lasers are very cool. Not a jokedemo either :)
Very well done but I don't like my eyes hurting from that damn filter...
bwahaha. i love dirty video. if you've seen vj videos like the stuff on animationtrip.com and moonshine.com, this is totally it... crossfades, raytraced spheres/chessboards, cheezy dolphins swimming in space.. even the stupid spinning logo in the corner. :) if you haven't seen any, you probably won't get it. just add the occasional loss of frame or chroma, and a "stop" indicator/blue screen at the end, and i'll be in the 90's again.. :) as always, if it's good enough for bjerte it's good enough for me.
what a nice stroll down memory lane. I love the outdated animation, objects, colors, music and especielly that VHS filter. All perfect for their purpose, wich seems rare in demos.
absolutely brilliant
great music!
great music!
finally.. i always wished somebody would write an x-mix adaption as a realtime product since 1995, when i made first encounters with the original tapes... all "the scene" could offer me back then was silly stuff as dope by complex.. *g*
now THIS is marvellously well executed and has all the atmosphere, attention to detail and seriously well written electronic music my mind has always been lurking for.
all available thumbs up for this and shame on everybody not giving their vote.
the only negative aspect is the lenght - it actually should've featured 10++ tracks and at least 30mins of lenght. =)

y didn't this win?
yes
this demo is the one that will be remembered from breakpoint 2004 still after years. like with almost all the good stuff out there, on the first watch it feels nice, after a couple more re-watches very good and it still keeps feeling better and better. unlike with lot of original x-mix tapes, the music in this one is really above average - five songs mixed so well together that you can almost smell the scent of vinyl. progression on the visuals is slow, but at the same time synched almost to the perfection - however all that fits so well together in the theme you don't even question the checkerboard, the dolphins and other elements that'd normally be the worst kind of clichés you can include in your demo.
nearly perfectly executed trip back 10 years into mixtapes, with no bigger drawbacks. no doubt the best pc demo released at breakpoint this year.

dolphins rule, flying monks rule, rgb glows rule, checkerboards rule, raytraced spheres rule, rotating logos rule, lasers rule, sucky techno rules.
stylewise this is perfect!
x-mix is not good for people.

quite long, but rulez nevertheless
Just excellent. A bit boring in the beginning but keeps getting better and better towards the end. Just the way demos should go.
I think this prog suxxx! Kewlers and Mfx can do weak demo... like this one! Boring, long scenes... round and round these same... music isn't anything impressive too! Sorry guys i was very dissapointed after downloading 10mb o crap!
very boring & crap music. i'm disappointed too!
WOW! Definitely the best prod from BP04. This demo will be remembered, maybe at Scene Awards, too.
I have never seen the original X-Mix videos but I do know what they are about. And I think this demo recreates their feeling quite well, I just love to watch X-MIX 2004 over and over again.
Dolphins shoot lasers which create a flying buddha - need I say more?
Thanks, MFX&KWL!

I rewatched this recently and I have to add that I SOOOO envy those guys for their composition skills. There's not a single pixel unused on the screen, everything is done very tight but not overcrowded or oversynchonized, and GOD DAMN it looks great. I wish I'd know if I saw any of the original XMix tapes. (Been watching a lot of CG/animated stuff around that time, maybe I saw that as well.)
MFX and Kewlers once again won the party after the party. Seems to be their habit now.

runs like 2fps on both all pc's i've tried this on
the more you watch it, the better it gets. your brain starts realizing, oh shit, this is realtime!
Very very addicting. Do not watch it !
very xmix ! brings a tear to my eye
neat 'vhs effects'
could say its monotomous, but so was xmix actually

The more times I watch this, the more I like it. Should be remembered years from now..
First minute I thought "What the fuck is this crap? They can do much better then this!". Then I started to like it. And in the end I loved it even though I tend to like more clean and technical advanced demos.
The camera movements is great and the direction and clipping is perfect.
Execellent music as well... what more can I say?

i already thumbed that one up, but after watching it some more times i must admit this isn't just good.. it's a BOMB! :)
Yeah, it really grows on you. I take my words back, despite its lack of "artistic qualities" it beats the crap out of A Significant Deformation Near the Cranium.
ownz!
this deserves a thumb and a truck (and 2 astronauts and maybe a train). This is so xmix i can smell it!! yay for letting me believe that i was 16 again!
i like the style!
a bit long, but otherwise very good. love that vhs filter!
I don't know why everyone likes this one, but it's really boooring! I would have expected more of a cooperation of two of the best groups there are, but this is just a really lame techno video with nothing special about it, neigther technical nor in the contents. You can do far better!
If you really "don't know why" it must mean you're the only one with good taste around here.
i would *STILL* like to order this on vhs.
I watch it once a day to keep sweet people away. The tracking error and laser show makes this my bet for "demo of the year".
Should get at least one nomination at scenes award next year... should have won.
I just had to pop in a let people know excactly how fcuking wikked this is.
it reminds me my old amiga 500 :)
some wanabee-oldskoOlz-coz-it's-fun peoles voted against quality and it's a real shame. The PC demo was not of a so high quality but I have to admit that this one simply kicks ass. It's exactly the kind of demo which reveals itself times after times.
Their are tons of details in it that makes the experience so impressive.
It's one of my favorite demo ever and deserved to be the 1st.
But it was not FR-025 which kicks your ass right from the first time you watch it (and eventually gets boring...)
+ it makes me trip in 90's when we were watching at Laser CD or VHS videos (mind's eye, ... ;)

My goodness, this sure rattles on forever and a day.
Gotta admit, I hate the style of music. And every single scene moves, spins, whatever, around dead center. Not very imaginative and considerably weakens the visuals.
However, the video distortion, including the occasional warping of the top left corner, was neato. And I have to give Kewlers and MFX credit for always trying to do something a step away from the usual demoscene fare.

It droned on and on. The "old crappy VHS recording that was made on a used tape" effect wore thin on me after the first 15-30 seconds. The music was monotonous.
i guess you didnt have mtv on utah

pure MTV's Party Zone nostalgia :)

el-bee, and this might be a proper moment to remind that hosted websites aren't ment to have large video files...
moved the file here
kwl/mfx mixed all the crap there is (be it on or off the scene) just to create a 'creme de la scene' production. what's the secret ingredient?
fucking A.
fucking A.
whoa shit :)
can we see this live somewhere?
can we see this live somewhere?
thanx for the x port, finally got to see this one
Sry, I don't like this boring product and especially the monoton music...
drug
massive !!
This was nice
All your braincells are belong to mfx+kwl.

omg, i just came in my pants! this is awesome. easily one of the best prods of 2004.

I'm speechless
Looks a little bit as an kwl/mfx version of 2001-space odyssee :)
The lasershow rocks.

why havnt i commented this one?
this is for sure the best demo of 2004!
this demo made me order all the x-mix dvd's :D
anyway, great demo, thumbs up.

There were some really cool things in here, and the overall VHS feel is pretty good. On the other hand, the demo shows the same static scenes over, making it nauseatingly boring. The music is nothing to get excited about either.
Very long and repetitive in both visuals and music. And the VHS effect could only help it so much...
I can see why some people wouldn't like this - they wouldn't have liked the orignal x-mix tapes anyway... But considering what they tried to accomplish, it's perfect... The laserscene is just fantastic :)
Thorsten: indeed. Moreover, for people who like that kind of music, those 5 tracks and the mix are really good.
slow on my mac! :)
suppa duppa
I just recently realized how great this is
I thought this one would get an award, it would have been well deserved :)
Super-najs!
Now my eyes are tired.
Everything is perfect!
Everything is perfect!
for those enjoying 3lux and x-mix videos decade ago, this cant go wrong // true to the name, an authentic realtime follow up, visual brilliance feat retro touch
All the effects are shown much too long. And the music is far too repetitive. Cut down, pls. Best thing was sync with music. Barely an OK.
I want more vj-like demos with mixed soundtracks :)
Even better fx than in the original X-Mixes :).
Really awesome. For the compo I found it waay too long however...
(doing wavy motion with hand) the DrugDolphin rocks!
Some nice scenes/fx but many boring. Music is average. All in all not what you can expect from Kwelers. One of their poorer prods.
not my cup of tea.
the first time i watched it i didnt like it too much tho now i think its quite good done. not everyones cup of tea
incredibly composed show!
anyone try some red/blue 3D glasses with this ? this kinda thing, you'd see while at a club/drunk/wondering what the hell !? It's got that rave/trippin out thing to it

Crazy thing!
AND KEWLERS OF COURSE!!!
this is not X-MIX. To give homage to this video-mix from the great heydays of techno you'd better used a warmer colorsheme and way less 3D stuff. I can't remember an X-Mix edition with such cold-metal colors.
Regarding the compo in which it ran at BP04....I nearly fell asleep while watching this.

where is the vhs record?
Hm, the Mac port wont run here on iMac G5 and 10.4.3....I can only hear the music but the screen stay black. Any hints?
big and huge. gotta admit i think there's too much visually of the dolphins doing very little..
but wow X-MiX rules, this is sooo the resident 12:30am slot on demoscene.tv..

I still don't get bored with the demo itself and it's still a pleasure to listen to the whole soundtrack at work. Pouet doesn't allow a 3rd thumb up though :)
Too bad this demo didn't get any award, it's just huge (whether one likes the style/music or not).

supercool
groovy style
Totally boring. Pressed ESC after about 2 minutes...
woohoo!
ants in my pants
BEST DEMO EVER SEEN. 4ever!!!
once again, ps, you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. Now I'm really saying it. STFU.
thumb up for Mac OS X port
blah, nothing special...
Hate the soundtrack and love the visuals
But I think hate >> love in this case. Plus I don't find anything else worth the bleeding in my ears.
same osx problems as previously stated: music starts playing, but the screen stays black
What Drunk_Poet said.
Long trancing demo - good old retro 3D. Like the music.
rooolz!!!! 4th track(I think) totally blows me away....TEKNO UP YAR ASSSSSS!!!!
I liked the laser scene and some of the filters, but as much as I want to like it, the demo doesn't really make it for me.
Doesn't btw work with Leopard either.
don't work on my macbook :(
And that's why you had to thumb it down, aha?
Crappy VHS tape look & feel rules!

you got the thumb, i forgot it
2008 and I'm still in awe it (especially the audio).
Listening to the soundtrack again almost gave me the shivers. It's a style you like or hate, but in its category ít's simply the best.
Congrats again, I'm almost jealous ;)

In awe WITH it. The soundtrack troubled me it seems :D
hell yes, full phat cream with all the callories and all the good taste, kicka$$.
god damn thumb!
hell, there´s my thumb?
kickass
:)
Awesome demo, based on the oldschool techno/idm/etc videos.
Only boring people are bored.
lmao
this is still fucking good
Too much distored.
To much distortion! Hell no, this is MTV partyzone recorded on VHStape.
Classic.
One of my favourites. I am so impressed by the work they've put into this, to make it so close to an authentic x-mix on VHS as possible. Even the background noise from the VHS tape is there. The music is superb; sounds like it was made in the early 90s. And the visuals are perfect. The 3d models look like they're taken straight out from a x-mix and the rgb distortion reminds me of my good old VHS player (it sucked). Thumbs up deluxe!
Hell yes! This is a nice hommage to the old tapes, i love this one.
Where's my thumb?! After all these years i'm still loving every second of it. a perfect demo.
Looks like PC version of Doplphins Dream by Push
Hard to dislike
for music
Possibly the best techno demo ever made and one of the best win/pc demos ever made.
So futuristic, this captures what I'm looking for in demos. And I don't get the comments about it being repetitive, there's tons of variety in these 10 minutes.
Acid <3 <3 <3
Where's my thumb? Now that's a modern megademo!
remember this one, really cool !
Just remembered it and watched it again, felt good.

Another rave demo done right. As usual, requires certain conditions be met.
Still absolutely bonkers!
I didn't thumb this up? Well, here's the overdue thumb!
Good one.
One on of my absolute fav "old" prods. Great everything here. Is there soundtrack to dl?
thats all you should know about that vhs stuff :))
bestest
X-Mix 3 was the second CD I've ever bought and I still fire it up occasionally, too bad the booklet is all glued up from some juice I poured all over it while on acid sometime mid 90's. Great idea for the demo, effects are sharp and minimal techno kicks ass and overall the prod does feel like the original XMix and 3Lux series. Feels good to be thrown back there, I could do without the VHS noise though, eyes hurt.
Huge thanks for making this! I digged 3lux/X-mix like hell, and you managed to get that same feeling manifested with your awesome musix and gfx.
techno
Damn! Totally missed this, what a trip! Fantastic music!
wow this aged super well! still love it
it grew less long and boring on me over the years! :D
Epic

Can't believe I never thumbed this one up. Loved it live at the party, and still nearly 20 years later!
