If I recall correctly there was a debate at the time whether it was possible or not to programmatically cause a bluescreen of death or something like that. Nix/TBL and Simm/Analogue tried to do it but failed so they faked it with this crappy thing.

in the win9x era it was easily possible. i mean, on win9x you can do whatever you want at kernel level with just few lines of preamble code...
