that claping was getting on my nerves and there is no GFX.

This was amusing. Its good to see that optimus has focused his energy into coding, and is therefor progressing very well as a coder. I hope to see improving design and more demos (better, cause i know you want to :). (btw, clapping in music sucked)

I really love this different demo! The music sounds a little bit like the old german techno group "time to time"...

rather enjoyable. i like the oldskoolness of it. also, good to see duck.3ds back :)

Ok.. If this was not coded by optimus we would see many thumbs down here, now.

The party version had some timing issues on diferrent machines (the party machine) than my own (little errors that people might or might no have noticed, but I still had to correct these), so I corrected a lot of stupid code and I hope that it will work in most machines now. Here is the final version. A lot more could be fixed, I hope there exist no more serious problems, but it's better to release it as it is and start coding for the next demo..

Thanks for the comments, either negative or possitive.

Rulz. Your group should be called "Optimus and the Nasty Bugs", because you are the star.

PLASMAMANIA!
Both thumbs up for optimus for actually doing a demo on PC instead of writing about wanting to do so.

Guess you can always trust namevoting to screw up results. This was a mediocre first-attempt demo.

Yes, Optimus my brother, a nice little demo! Great to see some plasmas on my screen again and so good to see you being productive!!
rulez added on the 2005-04-27 01:18:05 by Shanethewolf Shanethewolf
All I get is the music, the screen resizes, and then displays SOMEthing in a tiny rectangle in the upper-left quadrant of my screen. No image...

This is definitely THE breakthrough for optimus. Definitely deserves the thumb-up. Keep it up and continue learning C and real programming.
rulez added on the 2005-04-27 04:35:03 by Nuclear Nuclear
good to see optimus coding something.
he is defnitly a natural born coder, you can clearly see this by the colorschemes he picks.

I love this swimming pool ! duck.3ds =)
Tune fit well with the happy style, sharp colors, old skool remakes in a modern way = i like it!

Okay to watch, but the coder design is painfully obvious -- colours and camera give it away. Nasty Bugs need a graphician!
Mixed feelings about this one. I don't like the music at all and the design is really... weird.
However, its ingenuousness and its ideas were enjoyable somehow.

Optimus, try to take care over your design and color schemes next time :)

Crashes on startup. Logfile (stderr.txt) says "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)". (Windows XP, Radeon9500, etc)
added on the 2005-04-27 23:21:54 by sagacity sagacity
Not exactly filled with design, and some of the color choices are a bit Dutch, but other than that, it's great. I especially liked the flowers in the first part...
rulez added on the 2005-04-27 23:36:47 by Preacher Preacher
Well, I did not like the colours. Plus there are some flaws in it, like the water-waves not reflecting at the borders. Otherwise quite okay. I wouldn't watch it a second time, though.

crashes in a blink: win2k-256ram-radeon9250(or something)

same error as sagacity, but during the duck pond scene. Dual p4 xeon, 2gb ram, quadrofx 1000, latest drivers + xp + sp2 + etc.

Had some bits i liked, like the start and the plasma, some bits i didn't (the cube.. headache.. motion sickness..) but i'll thumb up purely for the pleasure of seeing optimus making a demo instead of talking about not being able to make on :)

Mmm,. tricky. I don't use something special (except for some exceptions for using Point Sprites at the first part). My PC is an Athlon with Radeon9600pro and running XP. I'd like to know what the problem could be but I neither have a clue nor have I implemented a log file :(

Damn!
added on the 2005-04-28 17:06:47 by Optimus Optimus
Something more. When I was at the partyplace, someone told me I shouldn't use SDL_GetTicks() but GetTickCount(). We also mixed a lot of code like changing some data types from unsigned char to char,. but now I see that there were still few problems (the last part with sphere coords object, in half of the runs had wrong colors, randomly), and I just replaced GetTickCount() with SDL_GetTicks() back, plus changed that datatypes to what they should be. I still don't know why these caused problems, but there is a large possibility that these changes could also have caused the crashes in your PCs. I hope this final works..

I have just uploaded the third final at this url: http://optimus.demoscene.gr/CloseGL(final).zip.

Try it and tell me. Else I will search about it,. it's not nice when you finish something and suddenly you learn that there are still serious problems you have never encountered here..
added on the 2005-04-28 17:13:05 by Optimus Optimus
hehe nice for a first opengl-demo ;) seemed to work fine here, i have no clues about what was wrong, since i've just tested the final version III anyway :P

Doesn't work for me... It switches resolution... and immediately afterwards, it switches back, and that's about it.
I use a Radeon 8500 btw... and WinXP SP2.

I've just uploaded a 4th update where I corrected another stupid piece of code that existed only exactly at the two places where the bug occures (beginning and somewhere in the water part), I am almost preety sure that this was the case, I found a PC in this netcafe where the 3rd version didn't run but unfortunatelly it's not availiable today to test if this is really the case. But I think the 4th version will work. Try and tell me.. (Sorry for this mess and the versions, however it's all uploaded in the same URL as the one and only final version)
added on the 2005-05-01 22:30:14 by Optimus Optimus
It still jumps out immediately after changing the resolution.
added on the 2005-05-02 01:17:53 by Scali Scali
5th update with 4 executables of diferrent resolutions (640 or 800, fullscreen or windowed), no time to do a config file or window boxes ;P. Check it now. I hope to find out soon what's the problem, else I have to find a PC here where it doesn't run and try till I find out instead of uploading finals. Sorries..
added on the 2005-05-02 14:08:11 by Optimus Optimus
None of those work... they don't work on my laptop either, which uses an ATi Radeon IGP340M chip.
Looks like you might be doing something that ATi's OpenGL driver doesn't like?

final final final

Replaced point sprites at the first part with a code that doesn't use extensions, so it must run in Scali's computer too now. Added a CFG for resolution/fullscreen selections. I won't mess with the old code anymore. No more finals..
added on the 2005-05-04 22:02:57 by Optimus Optimus
I works fine now. I don't like the music at all, the colorscheme looks scary, but hey, thumbs up for the effort and taking time to make it compatible. ...and for using Doom textures :).

Works great now, on both my PC and my laptop.
I like the oldskool-fx-in-3d stuff.

And we now know why the group is called Nasty Bugs :)

Nice with some oldskool sinus logo effects. Plasma cube with lots of glow around was pretty nice too. The water was not my favorite though. All in all -- OK.

Haven't comment on that one yet ?

Well, this is a light-hearted production with some nice values (such as the fact that it was finished before the deadline) and bright textures - it stood up as we had a problem with the projector and hence the other darker demos were struggling.

Nasty bugs CAN make a future 'interesting' demo with their plain technology - Have a look at that wolfenstein wild..

Waiting one for next year...
