awesome to the death. need a huge mothership to make it run, but eh, can't have everything for nothing, or almost if I consider the size of this thing!! ;)

jittery on most configs i tried on but still it's awesome.
kudos for getting on all major news sites in 3 days too :))

Great performance! (although I can only run it on a crappy FX5200 at the moment)
Ah yes.
Hurry with the final ;)

unreal tournament, go suck on a lemon!
awesome, good shit :)
looks good
I need to buy a card with pixel shaders, and that really soon! Everything was red but it was still possible to play it and to get some kind of idea how it would be in real colors. After seeing that screenshot I would like those pixel shaders right away!
giga super stars ;)
OH MY GODS! (read: fr) ;)
prosto pushka!!!
i guess i have to hurry up so see my comment on first page, since this will easily beat porrasturvat! =)
demoscene was always about kicking the game indutry's ass and showing them that we are always many steps ahead, and its nice to see farbrausch doing that!

Wow, i've seen these guys code some impressive stuff before but this is just amazing. Very slow even on a Ti4600, but amazing. 96k!!!

amazing
it's like kicking a dead whale across the beach when it comes to framerate and playability, but it certainly looks sweet.
Right if you think fR could have reached any limit to its death...they just come up with an even _bigger_ WoW effect to kick you right into your face!!!
DAMN awesome....and that's _just_ the BETA, dudes!!! ;-)))
DON'T wanna see the final !!!!
Or there's a new slogan born:
GAMEscene is DEAD!!! ;-D
Bye,
Weasel

that's not fair!! X'D you bastards!.. btw.. it's too dark and too closed... but.. of course is fucking GREAT!
i can only say: W O A H
btw, should be the first game in wide screen ^^
only fr makes it possible
For some reason, not only did it run slow, and the intro looked color-distorted... but I couldn't aim and fire, or kill anything. I pumped shots into two bugs for a while (including the time it took before the gun decided to fire) and nothing happpened. Except my screen went black and refused to come back, and they were still chopping off hp
ok seems i need "Deep Blue" atleast... :(
cool stuff. and the slashdot thread keeps me laughing my ass off ;-)
My friends at a game magazine were sent this by a producer at Electronic Arts the day after the BP files were released. The fact that it's a game sure does attract a new audience doesn't it? Anyway, stunning work. I wish to subscribe to your mailing list.
Pfft, they should've made this in 64k... those extra 32k feel like cheating. ;)
still trying to get my jaws off the floor.
this one really shocked me as it's technically excellent, looks awesome and has at least a little gameplay (which i found out when playing it for myself ;)
keep up the great work guys, maybe a little brighter next time ;)

okay, you guys suck :)
just rocks.
Amazing stuff, ran smooth at least on this machine except the bit with the long corridor with the waves of bugs in - that bit seems to crawl until i shoot a certain alien, then speeds up - a bug maybe? Also, its possible to walk into a new room, then out again before the door shuts, leaving you locked out. I'm sure it will be fixed in the final ;)
Can't say i found it too dark myself, and i've got a tft with the standard brightness / gamma settings etc. Game play should be good with a little tweaking i think... eg, the bigger aliens should shoot a bit more than they do ;) Oh yeah, the bump-mapping ruuuulez =D

My god ! Triple thumb up ...
When will they stop ??? ( pliz don't ! )

This is the result of talented people delivering some hard work. It ain't much of a game yet, but hell, well done :)
A little buggy(gameplay-speed). Fantastic work at textures, lighting and geometry!
Visually so fucking nice! Superb Introtune by Wayfinder. AND IN 96 K >:O
Scheiße!
Scheiße!
heute sagt man SHICE!

SO FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!

Simply impressive.

Damn...again time for a new gfxcard... ;)
Rulez!! Nothing more to say!
i coded some quake 1 mods and did maps back in the time when it was hip (you can still find some old shit in cdrom.com mirror archives), and so i feel professional enough to say, that this seriously lacks gameplay, its basically "yes, this is some kind of a rudimentary physics engine, and you can only somewhat move around and shoot stuff, BUT LOOK AT THE SIZE AND OUR BUMP/SHADOW EFFECTS", so i'd say this is again a preejaculative release. just calling it beta doesn't make it better (i prefer no release over an incomplete one)
the sounds are awesome. i know what the synth consists of, and getting these kind of sounds out of the v2 is lot of rewarding hard work and optimization, i told you already, wayfinder, that they remind me of those awesome fx reznor made for q1. also the soundtrack in the background has a very nice mood. however all of the sounds being mono and having basically the same volume kills the ambience somewhat.
now for the part i really miss: this game doesn't have a networking mode. walking through a linear dungeon is so 1990. you'd have made yourself immortal with a networking option, but as already mentioned, this release seems preejaculative.
the monsters are great. gizmo, you've told me already that they look only half as good when viewed on day light, but their animations give them incredible personality. e.g. this helldog is just fucking creepy, his walking animation is unbelieveable (try strafing around it, see how it bends the head and slides over the floor), almost all the monsters are a bit spider-themed and insectoid, i just love that.
as a conclusion i'd really have liked to participiate in that project, game coding and designing wise, however i know you just dont trust me enough to let me do that ;)
and well, farbrausch has never had a strong love affair with perfection. if its well enough for #1, its good. i criticize that, tho, hell, i'm even in that group.
game entspacken, gamerszene knacken.

Well, I'm going to thumb this up anyway, so I might as well wait for the final. :)
rockz for being 96k and featuring all that wonderful gfx and sounds! simply unbelievable!
suckz for the reasons paniq already mentioned..
suckz for the reasons paniq already mentioned..
Impressive demonstration of technical power but certaintly not a game (not yet at least).
it's awesome, but i could only enjoy it on the screen, couldn't play it myself because my machine prolly ain't strong enough to handle anything after the 30 mins of loading time.
awesome
kinda astonishing. i want an editor for fan-made-levels!!! :D
nice. crawled on mit Radeon9200 though.
Boah paniq. schreib doch einen Roman... -_-;
Dalezy <3
Dalezy <3
Ignoring the incredible technical aspect, I come to this conclusion. Sorry.
As a game it sucks bigtime, but as a showoff it is fuckin awesome. Some of the generated textures looks really great.
most annoying production ever. every second friend had to tell me about some ubelievable compressed 3dshooter *rolleyes*
there are many great intros (considering the "how much can be done in 64kb") and nearly nobody knows them. then one game and after 3 days everyone becomes fascinated about what can be done in 96kb.
i shouldn't care about it but somehow it makes me a bit sad and angry.
shoking the gamer-community itself deserves a thumb but even the rest (excluding gameplay) makes it awesome.
we have to face it... the internet is ruled by hardcore-gamers

a very bad game... gameplay sux, and it's horribly slow!!!... but it's nice...
Heh, for the technical achievement this deserves a thumb up alone spengler :)
And, omg what tards 90% of those poeple are over at /.
I thought they'd at least have half a brain but no.

Rocks.
doesn't work here :-/
The ratio between the amount of comments and pages talking about kkrieger and the size of the executable is very high. It greatly promotes the scene, even if it's kinda sad it is because of a game. But that's what the usual computer crowds seem to want.
Extremly slow on fx5200 (p4 2.8, 1Gb)
The visuals is superb and is a good work, as usual.

nice work. too bad i can't play it
KICK ASS.
Too bad, I'm too lazy to install an english keyboard and the authors used some keys whose layout is not the same in every countries.

Can't you just press alt-shift, poï?
IMPRESSIVE
EXCELLENT

really nice work, and game for the size. a bit slow on my box though (athlon xp 2000+ and GF4 TI4200), and please give us a way to use keyboard arrow or something next, too hard to play with an azerty keyboard ;)
ESDF is located exactly at the same position on QWERTY and FROGY keyboards.
Of course I can, but since I lost too many photoshop projects/steps due to a wrong keyboard setting and an unlucky shortcut ( and my habit to not read the popup windows I've already seen hundreds of time :p ). Ctrl-Z on French keyboard becomes Ctrl-W on Qwerty ones .

did you actually know that "kkrieger" stands for "klaus krieger"?
GO KLAUS KRIEGER!!
GO KLAUS KRIEGER!!
Apart from the high system requirements, it simply rulez. Don't bother asking for better AI, the AI as it is, is fine :-)
Btw, wouldn't look better if they used volumetric shadows instead of shadowmapping? Shadowmapping makes the whole thing look too blocky.
Also is it just me or there is character animation in there? I noticed the spiders trying to climb in solids and their feet turn around...

ah, btw, what about a 'level editor' ? :-)
Bloody impressive!
Again demoscene sets the standards for game development. \o/
sheesh, just stick a gun in front of your intro scenes and you get noticed. check the news items on www.tomshardware.com.. this thing is apparently making the rounds.. not to mention it got slashdotted.
so anyone want to turn fr-025 into a fps? :)
so anyone want to turn fr-025 into a fps? :)
phoenix: at least tomshardware wrote a bit more correctly about .kkrieger than about the gathering, but there you go... anyway - great game, albeit a little stiff on the hardware demands. :)
test config : GeForce4200ti-128(leadtek)+P4at1.8G+1GbRam
low fps, from 20 to about 8 in the column room
intro was played in negative, selection menu have strange colors too
all the shadows are strange, they are plain black (like a hole)
i prefer green medikits than red, red is color of bad, green is color of good :)
oreo launcher is funny but unuseable and ridiculous ,)
sound of hurt is not serious ;)
impossible to kill the spiders until they detect me and start to move
i finished blocked in front of a door (opened but invisible wall) after column room, with a new weapon available here, so esc pressed
very few Kbs for a good prod (on fast computer i means), it remembers me when Bomb! created the Amiga revolutionnary game Fear

Really impressive. Though laggy on my system. ;)
gives me a bluescreen on my machine :(
Excellent stuff despite the very bad framerate which makes it unplayable, waiting for some heavy optimizations in the final version. I love the weapons models and the rooms. The intro is a bit strange, maybe a FX5200 bug ?
I only miss some death-anims of the monsters, but this is nothing compared to what you have accomplished here guys :)
Ryg/FR: Really great work! Looks awesome!
BadSector: If you read at flipcode, shadows are stencilshadows (volume shadows) but at one forth the resolution to keep fillrate down, hence the blockiness I'd think.

@Breakin:
yeah, i read it and then i came here to see if i got an answer on that (and i got ;-).
and seems that i was true when i said that there is character animation on kkrieger :-) it says so at flipcode.

just a pitty the sfx are not up to the high quality of all the rest.
astonishing job, nonetheless.

.kkriegt'n thumb up
nächstes jahr wird alles anders :o)

Scheisse, wieso musste ich denn umbedingt schon vor der Game-Compo schlafen gehen?
I must say I'm impressed. The textures, graphics, lighting, shadows... even the level design rocks :). If I had one complain, it's that it runs very jerky on my computer (Athlon XP 1800+ with Radeon 9600 Pro), when I expected this card to perform ok...
freaks!
Although gameplay sucks, i gotta thumb up ;)
"das ruckelt."
awesome
awesome
i hope you can waste some "bit's" for a mouse sensivity and a gamma correcture menu . . .
slow but rulezz , what about infinity lifes and ammo on keys "M' and 'N" hehe ?
Actually, there was a news item in a Belgian PC Game Magazine (PCGameplay) about this game :)
nuts!
make it run on a 600mhz with a tnt2 then im impressed.
Make it run on my 386-SX12 with CGA, then I'm impressed. Make it run on my pocket calculator, then I'm impressed. Make it run on my cat (analog!), then I'm impressed!
Yeah. Shut the fuck up, stupid.
Yeah. Shut the fuck up, stupid.
make it run on a 2ghz + r9500pro with _more than 10 fps_, THEN i'm impressed (sorry >:))
... and there was much rejoicing!
sha'rafháká!
make a good website with a lot of info and gossip, then i'm impressed.
Like Gargaj, I'm really interested in watching this run at a decent framerate too, so please ignore your work and studies and get that final out! :)
Well... I just can't say anything else than "GOD DAMN YOU GUYS!!"
ok i waited 2 years for something like this and now it dosent work im runing it on
2.0ghz 512mb ram Gforce2 mx/mx400 64mb ram. and it loads a litle and then is gone. i cant even get to the game. pls fix that. o yhea i removed xp and put longhorn and still dosnet work so pls fix it.

iDice you moron, read the minimum specs
this is excellent crap for 96k! and this is a trilogy, you said?
had to go to a friends house to play it, flies on a 9800xt, of course.

hmm i just noticed
yet another cheat-screenshot :) 997 ammo hmm :)

YEH 997 AMMO DOESNT FIT IN 96K!!!#!@3
kickass kickass kickass!
Sorry, this is just too unfinished to give it a thumb-up. I'm waiting for the final :-)
good code, bad game
titanstar: you haven't seen the word "beta" in the title of this prod, don't you ?
poi: well, so? Why release it then?
This is not a good game, it crawls on about any system (1-4fps on my radeon9800pro + 3ghz P4 + 1GB RAM) and theres *NO* gameplay.
And 96k aint that small anyways.

arneweisse: Does the phrase "just for fun", and "technology demo" rings a bell in the upper part of yourself ?
"just for fun" - don't think so.
"technology demo" - you find 1-4fps on a machine like mine is a good technology demo?
"technology demo" - you find 1-4fps on a machine like mine is a good technology demo?
patch your computer, I've got a similar ( if not better ) framerate with my 2yo XP1800+ and GF4ti4200
poi: well, it was released into the game compo at breakpoint, and placed in the game category at pouet, and therefore should be judged as a game, not as <unfinished technology preview beta - anything you don't like will be fixed, so don't complain>. When there's a final version with enough game data to make the game enjoyable for more than 10 minutes, i will consider a thumbs up. However, seeing that it has been almost 3 months since breakpoint already, i wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the finished version.
i waited longer than 3 months to get a card that would eventually play this decently.
its iffy, but playable on a 1.2Ghz/512MB/AIW9600XT(128MB)
its iffy, but playable on a 1.2Ghz/512MB/AIW9600XT(128MB)
OK, it's beta and it's a demo. But far too slow and mouse mouvements badly made make this game tiring after the first time. Some interesting atmosphere, but it doesn't save the game from my point of view.
Odly enough, on my configuration the intro part was with screwed up colors.
Wayfinder, your track rulez =)
Some of the best scene graphics in only 96kb. Awesome models, graphics, lighting, ps effects... Only downsides: the mono sound effects for the actions, and the average playability. Otherwise, this thing is some serious shnitzel.

So yeah, what about a final version? Or even better, a non-beta one? =)
even when it sideeffects in starvation? :)
from www.theprodukkt.com/faq.html:
its mid freaking october and no .kkrieger final. and we are waiting still....

when will the final version be ready?
we plan to release it in late July or early August.

I finally got to see this a while back. Impressive technically, but not fun to play, so a piggie.. if you get nice gameplay into it, I'll make sweet love to you.
good game
damn, i never commented this one?.. oh well.. it's visually impressive! gameplay aint
final? pleeeeeeeease
hehe, does that mean you'll be licencing our engine now?
i knew that they would do it for tum/christmas ;D
what about any new release? you don't have to wait forever to release a final, just release a beta2 or something. just show how much progress you've done since the first beta.
anyway, the beta version runs at 30-50 fps on my box which is quite ok.
i just hope the gameplay is better ;)

i deeply hope a meteorite hadn't nuked Hamburg!
so impressive, when does the next release come ?
Gfx is really amazing, but rest all sux: music, sfx, playability, levels, monsters, weapons.
remove you sunglasses man. It looks like you neither saw the word "beta" nor the size of this prod.
Funny as hell.
Cool, but it's still more a demo than a game. I'd thumb it up, but I'll wait with it until the final.
how many crates of beer you want for a final?
(paid at next bp :-)
(paid at next bp :-)
very impressive.
Quite an achievement, really. but no feeling, very slow on a p4 2.8 radeon9k.
it's THE 96k game.
pretty cool, but also pretty buggy ;)
Awesome performance.
Looks soo cool! Only 96k!!! Impressive
I really like that the dots doesn't look bigger the closer you're at a texture

Rulez!! When iill be final uncut version? ;-)
where's my thumb..
do you really have time to answer to post's like this?? Isn't there a final to be made? ;D
Is there going to be a final?
Anyway, This was to slow on my 'old' machine back in '04. Runs ok on the new one.
(Menu is ugly tough)

i'd like change the keyboard conf (in order to play with my f... azerty)?. Is it (it'll be) possible?
GIVE US THE FINAL VERSION OR DIE!!
KRIEGER FINAL OR DIE!!
KRIEGER FINAL OR DIE!!
Impressive for 96k!
Truly inspiring.
...and conclusive proof that the scene is dead! This buggy beta was released 18 months ago, and hasn't changed since. If this had been released in the olden days, the final would have been released within 2 weeks, with all bugs fixed + a crack and trainer, by a different group.
in 'the olden days', chaos surely wasnt as busy as he is now.. :P
ehe :)
I finally have a beefy enough computer to run this game, and I have to say that it rocks. I can't wait for the final.
that was superb!
slow :D
but it must be my uptime and the running processes
but it must be my uptime and the running processes
This is how it should be made! Not any 4GB damn games! Proceduraly generated worlds rocks!
i foretell that geeks are going to burn cars and riot in the streets unless the final of kkrieger is released very soon :>
Impressive Work :)

mein angebot steht noch, jungs! :)
Thumbs down for getting slashdotted once again!
what a dull reason for thumbing something down!
warn bringer..
Buggy but impressive anyway.
good
very impressive! Generated world rocks, also the character animations. The only thing I missed is a cool gameplay.I think, in the next releases you dont need to use lowres stencil shadows, only cast the shadows to a certain distance to save filltime. (easy to do in ShaderModel 2.0)
Almost as good as Doom 3, in 96k.
impressive!
fucking excellent
OK I'VE CHANGED MY MIND. IT'S AWESOME! A BIG SORRY TO THE .THEPRODUKKT, PROBABLY I WAS DRUNK.
well, it's the best game in 96 k, and it was the reason, why i get contact to the demo scene.
the fr-grafik engine rulez, and it couldn't be better.
what a pitty, that the control is hard.
so, it's only a beta, and therefore it is a superb release :-)

impressiv game, but where is the fully uncut splatter .exe ? :)
Damn software/algorithm patents.
Really cool!
achievement
Dicker Hund! ^^
any news of a final version?
excellent
Things which should be fixed firstly, pointed after first game impression:
This game is AMAZING.
- mouse sensitivity control
- crosshair
- jump on right mouse button
- move also on cursors
- better steps sound, sounds on attack, hurt, from monsters
- blood
This game is AMAZING.
OMG tis cool!
Excellent :)
Can you guys make a 5MB game with this game? I bed you cant ( prove me wrong :D )
:D
rulez before i upgraded computer... radeon9600+Windows98 worked well... now i have Radeon2600XT and Windows XP and game doesn't work at all :-( bar shows its loading, then music start to play and i get back to desktop
krass
impressive performance
Thought I had commented on this one.. Anyway, this is probably the most impressive piece of sizecoding I've seen to date. Just great.

Amazing that this can fit in such a small size. Awesome demo!

Great textures and animation, really.

Unbeliveable achivement! Technically this blew my head... you 'almost' made a Q1 in 96 k with way more better visuals and animation. Not better music as Quake I had music made by Trent Raznor ;) But your music is nice though! If you guys find someone who can create great stories, then I wouldn't be surprised to find out you've created a fully featured FPS game in 4 megabytes :D some day!
Oh, it works on Linux via Wine without a problem. I just had something like 30 FPS but steadlily. Lol you even have LOD there... fu*k me! This is impossible!! :D

Still holding my breath waiting for the final. :)
as even the duke got its final release by now, do we simply have to wait some more years, too? ;)
so... maybe, same as in dnf's case, someone else should pick it up and finish? :)
.kkrieger is the new Duke Nukem Forever
just give us the sauce :)
Quote:
i still have the code+data (as does chaos i suppose), but unlike with duke, absolutely no-one involved with this feels the desire to complete it :)
Was there actually a plan to continue it further than the party version?
Still Kkool!

Well, never finished but respect goes where it's due.
Amazing game! Just to have some perspective of hardware evolution, I'm running this at 250-300 FPS on my GTX 660! LOL!
No rulez of my own yet?
It's been 10 years and today was the first time I played this. :) Ran into a trapped-in-door glitch, and was a bit bummed by the hallway simulator gameplay, but as a tech demo from 2004, it's really neat.
Never followed this one up, have you?
Awesome!
mind stops. unbelievable.
12 years later and still unbeaten in the videogame category's content:size ratio.

Had to revive this dead thread, because I just watched Nostalgia Nerd's video on this game, who said that he reached out to these guys about helping them finish their final rendition, and this concept needs to be utilized in today's entertainment media.
