added on the 2000-09-17 02:51:38 by epsilum
This is the most kick ass (of a non-coder) 4k I've ever seen, leech it.
A little piece of art!
a must-see !
only one word comes to mind : wow.
Together with "Stoerfall Ost" one of the few REAL "how the fuck..." 4K intros. Get this NOW :)
Does this damn thing has music?! Damn! Why I haven't heard it???
Rockz..
Rockz..
Optimus: This "damn thing" really has music (and that's why this "damn thing" is the best 4k intro in the world) but sad to say for General MIDI only.
since the midiport is hardcoded there is a final package available including most important ones. i own a GUS, but i never heard the sound, too ;)
when I first read about this little intro in a website I didn't really believe seing a Descent level in just 4 kb's. just one word, ROCKS!
Shouldn't it be "Omniscient"? :)
GUS ppl who haven't heard the music, run MegaEm first.
This was the most impressive 4k on the PC for several years, but now even Windows 4ks are starting to get better (e.g. Varus by Kolor). Still, respect to the Sanction guys for all they did back then.

amazing... and great .)
This thing's insane. Also, phoenix is right. It should be Omniscient.
Actually, I'm a dumbass. It clearly says "Omniscent" across the top of the screen :)
My prefered 4k.
It's "Omniscent" because of the reference to the "Descent" title... hey, the sanction members never knew enough English to recognize that they named their intro "All-Smell" this way *ggg*
bwahahahaha!
hella cool intro, though, heh... I'd probably have to use 16k for something like this.

Cast da vote!
absolutely wicked! these were the good old demoscene days! :)
Yep, it ruled my world for sure! :-)
these were the days indeed..
Wow! Cool music, and real fluid camera movements. Man, this is a MUST!!!
really really impressing!
Absolutely incredible when released, i'm not a fan, but what a code performance !
Incredible, a must see
no way but up
oh yeah baby, oh yeah
subpixeling, subtexeling and a bunch of animated textures in 4k... jeez!
Kickass intro, even compared with the best windows 4k's!
Music, good 3d engine, large scene, good textures, etc...
Yes, best 4k I've ever seen.
Yes, best 4k I've ever seen.
too bad I've never heard the music...
Somehow the music sticks in my head. Oh, and I don't know where you guys got your copy, but I can hear the sound just fine on WinXP
I still remember my jaws dropping when it was shown on the bigscreen. One of my favs!
Very nice. Great camera too :)
a classic! sooo beautiful...
Really impressive.
götta!
This is just so incredibly good. Or at least, was back in its time.
just voting for a classic
was this intro actually the first with 'real' procedural textures btw? as in, a 3d flyby with procedural textures. i cant remember earlier work at least.. perhaps on the Amy?
dunno it's historical value, but it's nice today.
astonishing.
(at its time)
(at its time)
this was a BLAST in 4k..
maali: that's an interesting historic point - can anybody name any previous work with procedural textures ?

this prod blew my fucking mind
yes!
Code:
three-dee-lovelee
Deserves big thumb up!
A killer 4k. Everyday!
My fave one... I stayed mute for several days after this one! =)
still impressive even now.
Nice one.
excellent
fuckin' awesome
I can't believe I didn't vote on this one before...
Now that kkrieger has been slashdotted ONCE AGAIN, I suddenly remembered this one.
Amazing
DOOM is recalled.
but... 1997?
and 4k?
this is very cool!
awesome 3D prod.

awesome 3D prod.
very nice :]
I remember this! Very cool prod. But I heard music in it only once...
And the best thing it that it runs with sound in XP thanks to its built-in GM/SB emu ;)
i never thumbed this? wtf..
sick shit.
hell yeah.
Good
yup
Killer.
Greatest 4k of the time.
10 years ago...yuhuuuuuuuuuu!

A masterpiece! In 1997 it seemed simply impossible to squeeze the first decent level in only 4096.
Hmm.. really impressive, but still just a fly through an empty game level. The 26k duke nukem level is still the best for me, that was interactive and had the enemies.
wtf
Killer. ... And it runs faster than Descent.
Back then in 1997 I made a Descent game engine too, but mine was big and slow. Respect.

This still rules.
This was really amazing!
wow
AWESOME. <3 Descent
yahoo! Classic!
Excellent work for 4kb!
☺
Killer intro!
Still one of the best 4ks
For a intro its just great! But i was expecting for some different effects.
ACT-JULT@!
Very nice intro.
hey someone youtube this please
well, just rulez all the way !
It's still impressive.
Video, slow as hell in DosBox.
seems fast enough here, you got max cycles enabled?
OMG !
OMG BBQ!
4k decent. neato
i remember this one, very kewl
I shouldn't need to write a comment why I gave it a thumbs up. Just watch it and you'll find out.
Very cool. Gouraud shading, hidden surface removal, procedural textures very reminiscent of Descent's. Also a smooth camera control. Besides, Descent was one of my favourites.
Absolute rules! Descent4k with sound!
fantastic!
Awesome, first 4k I saw that really impressed me.
Impressive :)
Oh my gosh!!! They greeted C Code! You Bastard!
holy shit!
impressive
♥
It was faster than the original's rendering written in Watcom C++, with just the rasterline being in assembly. I'm trying to imagine the face of the developers back then.
Oh wow, I've never seen this before. Even though my memories of the original Descent are... let's say less than pleasant (Disorientation: The Game), the demo still managed to poke at a few nostalgia strings. Other than that it's still quite solid, with a realistic camera path and whatnot. Good stuff.
Very impressive being a 4k from 1997!
Great 4k having in mind it was '97.
the texture looks too good for 4 kilobytes dos program. (and music too)
Oh yes, that was a jawdropper back then.
I like it.
Nice descent
.
Impressive work, still holding up today, and a very nice tribute to a now classic game. This looks better than many 64k did years later.
Nice one!
really cool
