So fucking sick! Didn’t want it to end and then it didn’t.
Art!
Autechre's new EP and video has dropped, and it's 4 kilobytes.
never stop
Holy shit, thank you both so much for making this! My favorite from a 4k compo any demoparty would kill for. Very different from everything else and utterly mesmerizing. I'm so gonna riot if this isn't nominated for the most original concept next year!
Reminds me of how Demos SHOULD and COULD be .. awesome work wrighter .. ears and eyes.. much repsect !
<3
<3
holy fucking fuck, this is something else, pure art
Art.
what sense says. easily the best in the compo.
Amazing 4k - sound track on point and viz sharp as a tack
Great
love it!
Above and beyond - a masterpiece
absolute art.
amazing 4k, a true encoder killer :)
am I at the modern art exhibition or something. kudos for the soundtrack
I dont get it
this is like when you drop a Traction demo down the stairs and somehow it still runs but now looks like a Satori demo! :D
incredible concept

I dont get it
You don't need to because I do.
A slightly weak thumbs up. for me it overstays its welcome, and would have been better if somewhat shorter.
Masterpiece.
I love the concept, I appreciate the flex
Youtube is here.
Should've won. Pure art in any way, period.
What an absolutely stunning work of art. Its intensity, elaborateness, and the way it changes over eight minutes and even introduces new elements is astonishing. Absolutely a masterpiece; my favorite at Revision this year.
Phenomenal 4k intro!
Should have ranked higher, if you consider the first 4 minutes.
But no, you really really wanted it go to the max time of 8 minutes, destroying the impact it could have had.
Wont go back.

It's fantastic, it's amazing how it holds up and develops over the entire length. I also like that it doesn't follow any of the typical 4k intro tropes. The 10th part is absurd, but party dynamics are different I guess.
This is gorgeous.
IMO it really works well even in this length, cause there's enough progression that somehow doesn't feel arbitrary, even though it's so abstract.
Would have deserved a trophy.

First minutes were like "whoa", but then it starts getting gradually more and more tedious and I just wanted it to end.
Awesome stuff! (would have been twice as awesome if half as long)
Fantastic track and some very very nice moments. Definitely a bit too long, could have been elevated by curating the best parts and leaving the rest. But the overall vibe is there, I felt the grieving, and that's a great thing.
i like this.
visually very crispy and noisy, reminds me the work of Ryoji Ikeda but even more avant-garde.
music is awesome, i would really enjoy listening to it again (if only i could run the demo with wine)

I don't really get the vibe that almost everybody else seemingly getsz but at least the sound is working well for me and it's a 4k so have a mild thumb here ;) a bit shorter would have been appreciated too xD
Think this is my Rev'25 fave. For managing to convey an almost Moog-ish, and pedal-processed feel in 4k. Whilst keeping everything synced tightly, yet sublimely organic for such an extended period of time.
I read the nfo and just deleted the comment I initially wrote.
I did not like the intro at all (for various reasons), but I realise that this is likely the point. => I will thumb it up for working as intended

Also, sorry for your loss. I wish you the best. Making an intro while recovering is very respectable and a good strategy IMHO.
That was quite a trip !
perfectly threads the needle of being over the top artsy but still enjoyable to watch
looks like software rendering even. which is cool.
deserved to place higher in my book.
deserved to place higher in my book.
strangely satisfying.
streamkiller
Frist 2 min were okayish, the rest sucked big time. I usually don't hump down, but this one feels deserved. Motivates me to hand in some random 4k next year, though.
yes, yes yes! this speaks to me so much. Party favorite without hesitation. Outstanding, forward thinking work!
What? 10th? Justice! It was clear that this would not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was by far the most original of the compo. And the music was super interesting, I am curious what tooling was used to compose it.
Absolutely amazing work, i love every second of it, my favorite entry from this revision. 10 place feels like nonsense, i think it deserved higher place at least for the sound synth
I liked it, but I found it too long
Fantastic work!
for achieving to stand in the special fine line between total chaos and controlled noise.
Alien art.
It seems others already beat me to it with the Traction jokes, but in my defense I was already making them live during the compo! :P
Overstayed its welcome a fair bit, other than that quite excellent.

Best production at the party, probably the best 4k intro this decade so far, and also quite certainly the best audio in a 4k intro ever. Actually no, in fact, this is one of the best soundtracks to anything to have ever come out of the scene.
Once again, there's something to be said about sincerity and vulnerability in putting out something like this. Something that comes from deep within you, something personal, something about you. Watching this makes me feel wistful, even heartbroken, longing for something, for a piece missing somewhere within. But at the same time there's ambiguity whether filling that void is even worthwhile; a conflict and a friction akin to desire or intimacy itself. It's cautiously violent, but turned inwards, towards the self.
This is not long at all. If anything 8 minutes feels constricting, a limitation only imposed by the conventions and rules of the compo system. I could've sat in a state of sensory deprivation for over an hour, sinking deeper and deeper into this. Not to draw a banal comparison, but this is very close to experiencing an Autechre concert, being stationary for an extended period in a state of minimal external stimuli. Of course at a party you give up your agency to pick and choose the exact details of what when and how to experience something, but for works of artistic sincerity I'm hopeful that most would ultimately feel rewarded for the experience. Some clearly did, while others not so much.
I've for a long time tried to campaign for productions to push the limits of duration, breaking away from being just easily consumable pieces of entertainment generally packaged to around 5 minutes or less. Ultimately I'm relieved at the reception seen here, despite the disappointingly low placement in the final results. I feel optimistic that perhaps finally this new leaf might be turning in our silly little sub-culture.
Maybe I said too much already. The demo itself is the speaking, and that's what we all should be here to appreciate. Thank you for trusting me with the preview version of this. Ultimately seeing it in context was even more satisfactory, however.
Genuine masterpiece.

u got me vesting my stige frfr
wait forgto to pick rulez
absolutely superb and prob my fave from the compo <3 incredible work.
Really overstayed its welcome in the compo, but it was nice anyways. Maybe having it half as long would not have been such a bad idea?
I really liked this one at first, but it dragged on for way, waaaaaaayyyy, wwwaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long in the compo so no, I am not surprised that it ended up on the 10th place
Impressive!!!
I keep coming back to this.
The length is absolutely crucial here. If it was shorter, it would not be able to let you to process the gradually evolving signal. If anything, it is absolutely brilliant to be able to pack so much of everything into such a short amount of time.

Enjoyed it on the stream, enjoyed it native at home. This has heart.
I can absolutely understand how this hits the tastebuds of many others, but unfortunately my misophonia kicked in really bad after a few minutes into it and there was not much visual payoff in the latter half that made dealing with that worth it.
Sorry for your loss, i hope you get to make and experience happier art in the future

My favorite entry in the 4k compo, and I second everything that rp and noby said. Thanks for sharing the code, that'll keep me busy studying it for a while. A small write-up about the starting point and "steering" process would be fantastic -- I was expecting to see a lot of parameter tables, and also my guesses about the synthesis methods involved except for the granular stuff seem to be completely wrong. This is the kind of magic demoscene fascination that stays strong after all those years and changes of platforms.
what noby said
Like some others, I keep coming back and rewatching it. Daily, in my case. It's such an experience. It ended up my party favorite by far!
A few random observations:
1. Ciosai's comment right after noby's long and heartfelt review was absolute cinema; the finest wine of any comment board. :D
2. The Autechre comparisons are apt, and the technique used here is not unlike some of what they've been using in their later output. Probably not a surprise that everyone who's been able to stomach it loved the intro.
3. I think it speaks volumes that in less than a week since release, this intro has already amassed 4 CDCs (by far the most of any prod released at the party). It's going to have more, and it deserves them all. Shame it takes years for me to earn mine...
(Also, I accidentally said "both" in my earlier comment but I'm not even sure why; my apologies. I blame cider.)

Make that 5.
Actually quite interesting; especially the music kept me going throughout all of it. My machine struggled even watching the YouTube video, though! I see there's a capture mode in the source somewhere, perhaps the authors could also take on the challenge of making a video file that's hardware-decodable on people's computers and not mush.
My first late-night comment was not very communicative, so:
I love the intro, the abstract concept and the exploration of the noisiness with size-coded compute and logic.
Please do not mind the compo place, there is a lot of potential, do your thing and see where it takes you. I'll be there to enjoy it!
When I grow up my glops I'll mark CDC :)

Like I said, I appreciated the audio but also the visuals! I sat very close to the big screen and thanks to the 720p res, had a really great view of the pixel patterns that formed and disappeared on the screen. It's cool to see it also looks right in the 2160p video capture.
There was progression and surprises. The length, perhaps a tad long, made it possible to lull us into a state where the demo itself sank into the background and gave room to our own thoughts. Only to be awaken again with a change of color, tone, or pace.
The fact that I knew that others in the audience were witnessing the same thing on this huge projection screen before us made it feel more like an exhibition piece than a compo entry. Which is great. Congrats!
P.S. Now I see why you didn't need a per-point Z value :)

whole heartedly agree. this is a brilliant point and i think i was trying to communicate something similar myself, but was unable to find myself to this exact sentiment. perhaps actually being in the audience would've instilled the feeling more consciously into me, alas…
Wow, very impressive!
Great
Mesmerizing.
Great and totally non-banal. Should be higher if only voters did not vote safe.
d'art.
Masterpiece
Autechre 4k!
Emperor’s clothes sure look shiny.
my favorite from Revision this year
Absolute powerhouse, a very easy new all-time favorite for me. Makes me want to aim higher with my own work. Looking forward to that write-up if it happens!
Oh lol oops, I missed that you already posted the link to the write-up! Wicked.
OK.
great stuff. me likes.
(Finally commenting my thoughts, I should've done that sooner but alas)
This intro is so so good for many reasons, but to me its beauty lies in its honesty.
Knowing a bit about the reasons you made this demo, I can't help but interpret the sections of the intro as a chronology of your emotions and thought processes throughout the whole thing. I felt like you were letting us participate in your introspection and reflection on what happened in a very raw, vulnerable way, without concealing the intensity of your feelings and your heartbreak - this is so special.
The evolving textures of the visual and soundscape are gorgeous as well, and upon rewatching multiple times I feel more and more that the length is required to get immersed deeply enough to fully connect with what's being conveyed.
Most inspiring prod at the party for sure.
