This was just... I don't even... You are not well people
thumb
Looking forward to the write-up. Insame amount of graphicans and coders per frame :-)
This is not possible on this platform!
Superb, had high hopes for this one and you did not let me down. Great work guys.
Amazing production again guys, no one else has made anything close to this on the MD/Genesis.
Once again, superb.
WOW! Simply WOW!
Fantastic !
Unbelievable! :)
Well done guys... no wonder you had no time for pixeling last year :D
Chip-on-cartridge was the impression, 4MB is the filesize. I'll have a detailed look tomorrow but consider a writeup to appease platform fans.
:O
Please tell me the name of your Megadrive board, I want to order one because it is insane.
This is amazing!!!
TITAN SUCKS!
massive
<3 fucking awesome Demo...i hate you all ;)
Awesome !
Awesome!
INSANE
Really nice sequel, much better in all fronts !
Made a long time I did not see a proper story telling applied to demoscene FX.
Thank you !!
Made a long time I did not see a proper story telling applied to demoscene FX.
Thank you !!
I had some issues with the first installment. This literally fixes every complaint I could think of and more. One of the most perfectly executed "oldskool" demos ever. Hella impressive.
My, oh my.
Proper topping for an awesome compo evening. Loved every second of it.
Platform defeated, next platform please.
To me the clear winner of a quality compo
F YES
Simply amazing. Great work :)
Holy crap.
just wow! damnit! :D
OK guys, that was awesome. Incredible music (no idea how you did that) and incredibly smooth flow and transitions between the superb effects. Big thumb
Crazy ass bitch-o-matic 9000 deluxe!
WTF?!!
just so awesome on so many levels!
Охуительско! Простите.
Great, really great production!!
YES
what the fuck
TITAN doesn't suck.
"This was cooler than the other side of the pillow!" (comment from the twitch.tv live stream)
o__O;
Whoa!!!!!!!!!
does it break because of the 6MB limit most emulators put on bank-switching?
(y) (y) (y)
Massive work. Great démo
This rocked! The 3D after all the previous stuff just made it.
I'm still holding hope some day I can get an Overdrive cartridge and perhaps this to pair with it. ;)

Finally!! :D
Amazing demo on so many levels. Really entertaining to watch as well.
This was FUCKING AWESOME.
Seriously guys, I think you pretty much tamed the old Megadrive :-)
Seriously guys, I think you pretty much tamed the old Megadrive :-)
Masterful work. If this doesn't make you want to buy the Sega console, i don't know what will. Thanks to everyone involved for your efforts. That was pure pleasure.
A good team work, better than Overdrive. Nothing technicaly impressive for this system compared to the 2D effects shown ingame in the 90's. Most of FXs look like to push data from the huge 32Meg ROM: for zoom, rotations, etc. Any systems with a large storage could do that.
best megadrive prod ever !
This is just bananas. Titan wrecks the house once again. I really hope you'll come back to MegaDrive, but I'll eagerly await your SNES stuff. A-MA-ZING. One ❤ Love
I don't remember my megadrive ever doing this.
Huuuuge! Massive! A class of its own! And, as someone said, "If this doesn't make you want to buy the Sega console", I have to add: it's because of the Super NES :D
sicker shit
Well, I guess there won't be any demos for Sega Mega Drive anymore when the bar is that high now! :P
Overdrive wasn't quite to my liking effect-wise but this is something entirely different!
Unbelievable good!
I tried it on a PAL Asia (big logo)/everdrive, amazing work. I drooled on the parallax screen, crazy cool greetings, it was a bit different on another PAL console (more planes). Excellent, awesome, ...!
Fucking Hell!
Greatness all around!
Great amount of work, some reused ideas from O1, and I think music was better in first demo.
Still awesome and worth my all thumbs
Still awesome and worth my all thumbs
Some serious WOW effects and transitions in this.
What the actual....!? The 3D! How?
Jizzzzzz! Best demo in years! WOOOOOOO!!
Incredible!
duuuuuuuuuuuude
Strobe is back
Strobe is back
So awesome that I started to look for mega drive on local ebay :)
You guys are insane. Massive kudos to all of you.
Holy crap, this is awesome :O
Can't do this on a SNES
Awesome fast-paced cornucopia of greatness.
<3
only BLAST PROCESSING makes it possible...
raaaah lovely <3
This is awesome, really.
First part was great but this really pushes the limits on the MD!
Rotozooms, blending, 3d engine, ... all in fullscreen PAL, insane.
In my opinion, music was also better than in the first one.
Looking forward to getting more info on the undocumented registers!
PS: Played it on an early MD1 model (HD graphics, no TMSS) with a custom flash cart, no issues whatsoever =)

.xcellent!
Just dug out and hooked up my MD2, only to find out that the ROM is just a little to big to be able to run from an Everdrive MD. :(
Final version that's bit smaller, please? ;)
Final version that's bit smaller, please? ;)
boom
Absolutely brilliant! This blows the original Overdrive out of the water, and that was already the best prod on the system. Nice work, guys!
Superb
Great
WELP.
2017's done. Thanks for stopping by, please try again later.

Hey wooow ! :D U'r the kings.
I'm really impressed by what you did the megadrive do :) Great acme, great effects, good use of the palette
Effect assault! And someone has been locked up inside a room with a machine for pixelling for a long time!
Thanks for the debug view. That's truly some un-traditional looking rendering technique!

BTW I just have to say, that I think this is one of the best demos of all time. I think you guys have even captured the very essence of what a classic demo really means. Absolutely stunning work from start to finish.
Stunning work. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Thanks TiTAN!
This rocks in every aspect. Phantastic!
On what sort of cartridge does it run ?
Massive!
Amazing demo. Hard to believe it's on a Mega Drive.
good work !
Simply rulez!
The followup too the cool awesome Megadrive demo now with more cool 3D and E-Werk and planes
awesome
What Kylearan said, what a blast!
I haven't been impressed by any demos since the 90's. But this pushes so many things. I am a console dev myself, and time after time in the demo i was cracking my head to figure out how on earth you did many of the effects. GREAT work, SO inspiring! I love you all! :)
Absolute fantastic demo, good job! This is what a true demo is like in my eyes. Very entertaining and inspiring, full of art from talented people.
That music :O Real blast prod!
<3<3<3<3<3<3
Amazing! The graphics, the code, the transitions... love it! The music fit the story line.. although I enjoy more the one from Overdrive (1). The amount of graphics is really impressive... and yes, I would like to see as good quality on SNES...
Love this!! Awesome demo with some kick-ass effects, great music, nice design and a real old-skool feel too.
Certainly got me thinking regarding some of the effects.. "how did they do that" :D
Certainly got me thinking regarding some of the effects.. "how did they do that" :D
you guys got the shit tight, this is just so awesome!
an absolute highlight of the party. watching this felt like watching "hardwired" for the first time.
Holy shit, this is amazing. Kudos to everyone involved.
One question though: what is the exact hardware this is meant to be run on?
I have a very first gen Japanese MD which I modified to run on 50Hz, yet on bootup the demo runs some sort of test with numbers and gives out results citing "mix plane instability" through to "severe". When ran, I notice some glitches in 2 or 3 scenes. I was under the impression since my machine is modified it would run fine, but obviously I am wrong. Or does it have to do with the motherboard revision?

This was absolute a killer demo with a massive tune!

PS: It would be an enormous help for our research if you could photograph your MD's circuit board (particularily the VDP chip and its writings) and give us your MD's serial number (written on the bottom side of the outer case).
How can I contact you through email? I'll send you this info today.
@oerg866 , sent you the info :)
100% love! <3 <3 <3
Amazing on all accounts! RESPECT!
I love this so fucking much
Holy hell.
shut up and take my thumb up
Suck it down, Nintendo!
fuck
Superb! A masterpiece!
Jawdroppingly good!
Incredible!
Absolutely incredible!!
wow, awesome!
awesome :)
amazing!!!
Yess. Not a huge oldschool fan but this is neat.
Son of a b!@tch!!
Wow!
Kickass.
I love how the whole pacing of this thing is, well, in overdrive. The music carries it very well.
Yay!
Nothing more to add.
Super, esp. the transitions.
nice, awesome & great!
This made me thumb up - what I usually miss to do. Well done! I feel I have to start coding on my favorite gaming platform too.
P.s.: Extra respect for not using the whole life support system (CD, 32x) - though I guess it could make you some more enjoyment. Forget the SNES! :)

WOW, this is absolutely amazing, I really like your style!
Yee-haw!
Woah, you raised the bar through the roof and into space!
Awesome! Probably my favourite prod from Revision 2017.
Wow all the way.
I rate the hardware to an Amiga 500 equivalent and for this system it was a BLAST! Nice demo!
Alien you maniac! Lot's of hours pixeling all this stuff :) Also surprised about the sound quality, better than I thought was possible. Great tempo, FX, flow = ace demo!
Winner! I would enjoy a compo with such a massive demo and others demos on 16-bit systems such as Amiga500 - I bet it would be a kick-ass compo!
Kikkäss !
I thought I knew what the Mega Drive could do! I was quite wrong.
Really cool stuff. The border break and the smooth full-screen scaling was wild.
I'm really interested in hearing about how the VDP debug stuff works.
I'm really interested in hearing about how the VDP debug stuff works.
Awesome to the bone! Did expect nothing less when Alien is in there. ;)
Funkings to Titan™
After the 4k and 64k compos, this was the perfect bodyslam for ending the night.
I have no idea what you guys did there but it sure as hell is an epic prod!
Great show
Wow! The amount of love, effort and quality oozing out of this demo is astonishing. Excellent work on all fronts.
Any hope of an NTSC fix (like with Overdrive 1)?
this is the shit
Intense!
Absolute jaw-dropper. How fast is that 3D polygon routine? I mean a 68000@7.61Mhz should not be able to produce that...
Forgot thumbs:)
yiss!
WHAAAAAT?! o_O
Beside being a master piece, I love it just for the fact that it breaks every Genesis / Mega drive emulators ever made! :)
superb!
Crazy good stuff. You turned it up to 11, and then past that.
Is there a official flac/mp3 of the soundtrack to download from somewhere. I need more of the music in my life.
Titan sucks big time <3
W O A H !
One of my favorite oldskool demos, period. Never thought Genesis/Megadrive was capable of this much, and I was more than delighted to see your intent to tackle SNES next. Titan vs. Elix for Revision 2018 oldskool demo compo pls. :p
Obviously awesome, effects and graphics are awesome.. but jeeeeeezuuuus Strobes done some SERIOUS FM work on that soundtrack!
Awesome! and what Steel said... ;-)
Titan rules again!
Amazing!
...so, since I guess there will be no way to get a normal Everdrive to run this 8MB ROM, will there be carts made of it? Preferably at a reasonable price...
I'd really like to run this on real hardware, promise to give it a thumb up once I have! ;)

Decent. :)
One of the top 3 highlights of Revision 2017. Well done!
What a ride!
Absolutely superb demo. Sadly dont work on my Everdrive-MD because of the big 8MB size. People who want to watch it on the real console need one of the newer X7 Mega-Everdrive versions.
Amazing in every aspect.
wow
i'm in love
Haha that anim gif of the 3D renderer. I don't understand a thing, but the whole demo was just fucking amazing. Very well done, with some gorgeous graphics (albeit with a kinda weird shit toned palette) and of course amazing effects work. Music rocked as well.
Hits my oldschool spot in a perfect way!
Very nice artwork by Alien and impressive amount of content and polishing.
Unfortunately I can't bear the "music" for more than a minute.
Unfortunately I can't bear the "music" for more than a minute.
Absolute great Mega Drive demo!
blast processed!
This was amazing. I had no idea the MD could output music this well. *blown away*
I want to make love to this demo!
Whoa, I didn't think this was possible on a MB. Impressive tech, graphics. Even the sound was amazing, MD never sounded better...
Aaaand here's the thumb :*)
What a ride! Very well directed. Progression every second. Very well done, guys!
simply amazing megadrive demo. The amount of work in that demo is insane! congrats!
Excellent !
Made my day ! :-D
Made my day ! :-D
so much awesomeness!
This is like watching an absolute classic from the golden years of the amiga era. That perfect combination of amazing effects, great graphics, cool music, and a flow that holds it all together perfectly, tying all the parts together and never hanging around long enough to get boring. Nothing is ever perfect but this comes bloody close :D
@oerg866
Cool tech demo, I also enjoyed very much reading about its making and its specs.
Just curious, does it work on Blaze Mega Drive hardware clone?
Quote:
During the development of this demo we have actually bought about 25 Mega Drive systems to figure out the stability of the debug registers we're using. After some more testing of our good friend Tiido (TmEE) it seems to mostly (almost exclusively) affect 1st generation VDP chips made by Hitachi.

Absolutely incredible in design, music, coding wise.
No stupid poetry, no long lasting effects, just pure fast pacing demo.
I especially liked how effects and amazing music are synced together.
My TOP 2017 demo so far.

Mayhemic!!!
When I saw this masterpiece on the stream, I told myself that I would hold off on watching it until again until I could run it on real HW and a proper CRT.
Well, since it didn't work on my EverdriveMD I finally caved and watched the video (not enough patience to wait for the cart release).
So here's your thumb up, but I still want that cart alien! ;)
Back to the demo - it's really fantastic there is just so *much* going on, non-stop. Quite a lot of things that I'll need to watch it again and try to figure out how the Megadrives graphics hardware is being utilized to get these effects.
Best demo of 2017!
Only minor complaint is that I'm not sure how I feel about using features that isn't compatible with at least all official Megadrives (if the figures 30% of MD1 and 5% of MD2 is correct).

Bravissimo! Briliant, as allways.
Juste a note about (in)compatibilities on older platforms: best CPC demos (Batman Forever Still Rising) won't run on crtc2. Still from CPC top 5 From Scratch runs on crtc1 only. It seems most of people agree with less compatibility for better tricks. :)
@Titan: I'm so glad you made a demo about it!

oerg866, alk : Yes, documenting and doing "world first" usage in such an impressive way of these registers is absolutely a good thing.
There are quite a few other example of demos using non-stable features of chips, VSP on the C64, CRTC-trickery on the CPC etc. It's an interesting topic, maybe I'll start a discussion post about it.

Can't really comment on any of the technical stuff so I'll just say hooray for the perfect pacing. This demo keeps you on the heel for seven minutes and just continues to deliver, a feat that's pretty rare especially in the oldschool arena nowadays. Perfect ending for a Revision saturday night, thanks :)
among my favourites at this year's party. even that it's built around amazing gfx, there are few effects that really blew my mind.
holy shit :-O amazing
aMaZiNg!
I find most of the oldschool stuff far too long and too introverted, but this one really defends its length. Entertains from start to finish, regardless of whether you understand the depth of the effects or not.
The border-chopping is amazing
neat af
Oozing with brilliance all the way throughout!
For those interested, the BlastEm emulator does a pretty good of emulating this awesome demo. Here’s a video capture to show its dev. progress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puTeabzA6DQ
This made my Revision. Guys, you seriously raised the bar. Kudos. So proud of you Medo and Jorge especially.
Incredible. I cried a little :)
Awesome. I love it!
flawless execution in all departments
You know, this kind of demo is not my cup of tea, really. I'm more into high concepts, moods and stuff like that and I kept hoping for something like that for the most part of the demo. But then again... screw that.
I've rarely seen a demo that's such a tour de force in every single department. The code is fantastic, the music is pounding, the graphics wonderful and the direction reminds me of the the heyday of the Amiga scene years ago. Just stellar. I also love how this could be enough content for three demos: effects that are great just by themselves and could be milked for a long time (like the raster 3d flyby thing and the x-rotator) are just discarded after a few seconds to just keep up the pace.
Fantastic.

Not particulary fond of the graphical style of this demo, but man has it got some great effects going on, and the pacing is just perfect.
Cool effect, good design, engaging music, great direction, polished transitions, enjoyable to watch: flawless.
Looks like you found the right recipe (especially with the pace). ;D
Good job.
Good job.
And thanks for the greetings. :)
Probably one of the best demos I've seen in years.
outstanding work! It's demos like this can keep bringing me back :-)
wow
boom
This is prob my favorite demo. Love Mega Drive forever, and Titan rulez.
I refuse to believe that the soundtrack is only coming from a Sega Mega Drive!
@Venty believe it! Strobe is a magician! also check out his youtube channel older videos https://www.youtube.com/user/StrobeFlux/videos you will be amazed
btw this demo blasted my mind, to think this is what the blast processing was supposed to do, props!

Anybody knows, if this Demo works on good Clone-Consoles like "Retron 3" or "Super Retro Trio" (from cartridge or from Mega-Everdrive X7) ? I ask just for interest, because nearly all games work on these two clones, but what brings effects, and therefore compatibility, to the limit are the demos.
Titan still sucks!
Quote:
Hi, no, the demo does not work on emulator clones like the ones you've mentioned.
Hy. "Super Retro Trio" and "Retron 3" are not emulator-based clones (like for example the "Retron 5" is), they are both chip-based and very very compatible. For example nearly all SNES Special-FX games works and also all of the SD-Card-produtcs (Everdrives, PowerPaks, SD2SNES). Therefore i thought, there would be a chance that this demo also works on it. It`s worth a try, maybe i buy a hardware-modul of this prod here and then i see. Also have two original Mega-Drives (model I + II) when it dont work in the clones.
entertaining.
still... entertaining... already thumbed earlier
bang bang bang effect effect transition effect transition... this is how it should be done... hats off to Titan for this... can watch again and AGAIN!! never get bored of this masterpiece

Addendum: Some of the transitions are fantastic. Outstanding work.
This demo makes me very happy.
Also, props for pushing through regardless of the instability on hardware variations. Some platforms have janky AF revisions, but we still love those "unicorn" exploits! :DD

How could I miss this one ? Very good demo with great transitions. Made my day.
WTF! Unreal! Some of the best stuff I've ever seen!
Unbelievable!
Thumb upgrade.
I'm still no fan of the music but all the rest is totally ace, of course.

talking about the music, any place to download the soundtrack?
This production is really awesome! I wanted to see this demo on real hardware so badly I truncated the file to 7megabyte (removed 8Mbits) so my Everdrive X3 could load the file. And then I could watch the first 2:30 minutes of the demo! Then the videooutput stops (debug screen appears with all registers D0..D7 and A0..A7 displayes ;-) ) But the wonderful music keeps going for another 1-2 minutes!
This all runs on my Sega Multi-Mega hardware!
This all runs on my Sega Multi-Mega hardware!
I would love to see this demo being split into 2 parts so the individual parts could be loaded onto the everdrives x3 and x5....or a 7Mbyte version with some memory intensive parts removed ;-)
What people say!
Real MD kickass for a next decade or two :)

How the heck did I not thumb this yet?! o.O=b
Its the whole package that blows minds here. Apart from dope effects and nice code, the transioning and presentation are top notch as well. I'd thumb up twice if I could!
massive, always a huge joy to watch & listen to this mega piece
Awesome !
This is... actually pretty decent.
The effects are very pretty and the art itself is really good.
The music kinda blew me away at first because from what I read, it blows open the PCM channel and shoving basically really long snippets and drum sounds in between all of it.

I am part of the team that is taking the Megadrive to FPGA. I am in charge of sound (look for JT12 in github). We've found tha Titan2 is missing FM sound from time 0:45 to 1:15. However, it is not easy to debug this because there are no .vgm files available for Titan2.
We have also found that Titan 2 expects some initial value on YM2612 registers different from our implementation. So unless we load a game before Titan 2, music will be muted on Titan 2.
Is there a way you can share your source code for the music? Or provide a .vgm file? Or just a plain register/value list of writes to YM2612.
We would like to support this demo on FPGAgen.
You can contact me through google mail (jotego) or twitter (topapate) or maybe directly through this forum.
THANKS!

And a +1 request for shrinking this for the Everdrive X5. I'd love to see this on real hardware.

evil ;-)
Is it possible to run on a real megadrive? i tried with everdrive but i received an error
awesome
Beyond smart, it's magic!
Great !
jesus
There's no words to express how awesome is this.
I expect we never get a 7mb downsized version to run on everdrive x3/x5 😭
Or a two part split version of de demo.
It’s such a shame most people are not able to enjoy this now on their real hardware....

Amazing demo!
Incredible prod. Loved the rainy city, the greets part, the vector flyby. Also loved the pixel work (especially that profile face) and once again just an insane soundtrack. Congrats!
Hello! How i can flash this ROM for using with SSF2 original mapper? SSF2 cartridge contain 3 Masked Rom IC. I'm not good at this, but I really want a physical version.
goooooooooooood stuff
Top notch. Amazing stuff.
Amazing to finally see it on the real hardware! It really ups the craziness of overdrive and puts it to another level. Mad respect!
the best and have a damn best soundtrack
Da best!
Awesome demo, no questions asked. My MegaDrive II is however missing sound from when the little spaceship exits the big one (the outside shot of the ship zooming off).
All other demos and games, including Overdrive 1, work just fine. This is on an Everdrive X7 and a PAL MD II.
Any ideas what's wrong?

Hello guys
Is there a chance to have a 7MB version of Overdrive 2, or to divide it into 2 ROMs so it could be used on majority of flashcarts?
Thank you guys, I love overdrive.

Coming back to this, now I understand why I have such a predilection with breaks in music. Jesus christ, this is so good.
It's a fantastic! I'm shocked!
Brilliant! So much stuff going on here!
How come I haven't thumbed it up yet? :)
I finally got to watch this on my own Mega Drive. One of my all time favorite demos!
one of my favorite demos, inspiration for the effects in the Rewind 2 demo on Atari XL/XE :)
Amazing!!!
