What a trip... I remember, 12 years ago, a conversation with xphere. "We should redo all the tools" and "it will be fun" and "I would like to have kids too" and so on. Well, 12 years later I can say that we have the tools almost at the same level than in 2010!!! Remember that if you are lazy and start building your software stack over muddy floors you will need to rebuild everything and every day you decide not to do it generates future debt that will be paid no matter what.

Nytrik, open the data folder, locate the picture in the credits and replace it by yours and get your own credit!!! And you will also see my video unprocessed with the frying pan.

Gaspode, if you want the prequel to this demo you can also watch "don't deceive me" and get more car action. Other demos featuring the old version of the effects are "death of the death" and "die Änderung".

Now time to go home and rest. Many thanks for your comments!!!

This demo has many raw materials that can make the sum move one notch up, even without the theme of self depreciation.

If you think about it, you have sufficient tech already (and since 2010) - the face credit scene is among the best effects of recent times, also because of its simplicity. Give the vignettes some more space to breath, good to great is sometimes only a few seconds of waiting and pausing !

Maybe your next foray could be the world of mixing video and 3d stuff, you demonstrate a good for it.

bit dated here and there, but at least the spanish scene isn't fully dead (yet) :P
as long as there is Ham, the spanish scene is not dead.

Remember that there were three Spanish demos in this party!

Many thanks for all your comments!
Soon we will release the demo source code, so anyone can see how we did the demo, and even can modify it with our demoeditor! stay tunned! :)

For the most curious, you can edit the "data/config/control.spo" file and enable the "debug" flag. In debug mode, you will be able to see many realtime data of the engine, like fbo content, sections being drawn, etc etc...

About the history of this demo... well, it was around 2019 when we developed a new engine from scratch, because the old one ("Dragon", done by Kolian in ancient times) was too outdated to be refactored. Then we decided to build the new engine ("Phoenix"), but with the condition that should be compatible with the current DemoEditor (built by merlucin).
Then, as merlucin said, many things happened (pandemic, kids, etc...), which delayed the things a little bit more than expected... but finally we managed to have a "capable" new engine.
Finally, we decided to proper test the demoeditor + new engine with a "quick demo", rebuilding some scenes from previous demos (most of the effects have the same 3d models of the old demos), for example:
die Änderung - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBuD4HI_9oA
Death of the death - https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=50168
Don't deceive me - https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=53548
But finally, it took us almost 2 years to prepare this demo, mainly due to the very few available time, the new sections that we had to build to recreate some of the old effects, the (many) bugs the the new engine, etc...

Again, thanks all for the comments!! all feedback is more than welcome!! :)

What Navis said. Also more demos should feature cars driving off cliffs for no reason whatsoever.

I enjoyed the chill and straight-to-point style of this demo, with its over-the-top music, that says "we're just here to have fun". Yet in the middle of this, I thought the portraits were a really neat effect, that felt fresh.

On the other side, the similarity with Rupture was distracting, and I can't tell if it's a nod, a uninspired copy or a coincidence.
rulez added on the 2024-08-19 21:03:23 by Zavie Zavie
Hi Zavie, the car scene in this demo is an evolution of another car scene that you can see in our "don't deceive me" demo, that was presented two months after rupture. Although both demos feature an edges shader, rupture is more about morphings and ours was in exploding things.

I have to admit that when I saw rupture I was worried about the similarities in that scene, but with our euskal party deadline so close we focused in completing the rest of the scenes of the demo.

Isaac2 suggested that there were not a first person camera in rupture, so we added it to our demo in the party place, and it worked very well, so in this demo we decided to add also the driver and the car dash.

Cheesy effects but in served in good condition. I especially like the spinning ocarina scene.
