Was acidjazzed evening forced on 4chan or something?
category: music [glöplog]
Ive been watching my daily portion of 8bit stuff on youtubes and apparently stumbled upon things like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izAkdgHJ5Ak
and this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AieSyhf7pCw
and TONS of other remixes, piano rolls, oscilloscope captures, atari versions and ukulele remakes of acidjazzed evening. I wouldn't been surprised if it was an outcome of that ripping Timbaland controversy but all this content seems created long after the incident.
Any chance anyone saw it featured on reddit or 4chan or something? It's just interesting if it happened at some point, or such cool track can get known on itself (which would be great to hear too!)

Not myself, it's possible that those idiots at 4chan could have picked it up.
it even has its own wikipedia page, so it is safe to assume that controversy made it pretty far outside the demoscene as well. and well, parodies happen...
That second one was pretty good. Proper oldschool youtubepoop.
Is that Timbaland guy even REAL? I try to mention him to others and all I get is "Oh, you must mean Justin Timberlake".
I found out later about the whole thing: Tempest wrote the original AJE on Amiga, then someone made a C64 version and Timbaland heard it and loved it and plagiarised it, the BASTARD. And he didn't even give a damn where it came from! My God, if he or other plagiarists knew about the vast, rich, untapped musical world where AJE came from, they'd be squealing with delight at all this FREE quality music!

@Foebane72: it looks like you are not aware of the scene music stolen. 300+ pages of pouet BBS about people stealing and reusing tracks from the demoscene. Happy reading!
Yea Foebane, i guess Timbaland didnt even plagiarise but plain ripped the GRG version via Sidstation on Pro Tools...
Dayam this is good stuff! Thx! To the YT-Downloader-Mobile!

That is sad. As the saying goes: Why create when you can steal? :(

What I meant is I'd never ever heard of the guy until this.
Also, I should point out, that plagiarism goes the other way as well.
The tune called "Popcorn" has been in circulation in demos since, well, forever. Rihanna's "Umbrella" is shamelessly ripped off in Elude's "Step By Step" and they get away with a place at a compo, and yet Melon Dezign rip off some music for "I Feel Like a Computer" and they get DISQUALIFIED!! Double standards, much?
And, if I recall, TRSI's "Time Zone" also has a ripped-off pop song at the end (the sequence with the dove) but the band escapes me for the moment.

A visit to ye olde clue shoppe could be in order.
No need to list them all, there is already a list.
And what do you guys think about this "reclusivelemming" guy and other renderers of chiptune?
I heard some talks about needing permission to show other people's work and reclusivelemming basically rendered tons of .MOD, atari files and other chiptune into MP3 and posted to youtube (with proper credit, of course). Not sure if he had permission for this, but i've seen him interact with some authors before, just like "kiiiiingofpaaain" did 5 years ago when he estabilished with tempest that the renders of his old mono chiptunes would no longer be hard separated stereo but be narrow stereo instead.
Probably can't talk to the lemming anymore, his channel has been inactive for quite some time.
I personally love to have easy access to fancy playlists in accessible mp3 format as i'm a poor bastard who can't get a 32GB card to store the little media he consumes on the phone.
However i am aware that some of those renders are quite a bit different from the original.
Now that i'm properly thinking it through, i should probably just keep a copy of my favourite chiptunes in cloud storage for occasional use.

It's governed by copyright law. Historically the demoscene hasn't been very interested in legal matters, and very few releases carry an explicit licence. Most sceners assume that releases are freely distributable, but there are many examples of musicians who change their mind and demand that e.g. scene.org delete all their releases. Most sites comply instead of risking a legal case, so I don't think there's an obvious precedent for scene related stuff. Rendering to video might be legally different from redistribution of unmodified module files as well.
TLDR: It's complicated. Ask a lawyer if you really want to know.

I highly doubt that, since this is statisticly impossible.
You do know the guy has been producing hits since 1991?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbaland_production_discography
Could be that you never heard of him, but you did hear at least one production of him. The guy has been around :)
I hadn't heard about him until I fell into the controversy either. Of course, I had heard of the hits in question, but not the dude himself.

Yeah that makes sense. He used to be just as unknown as RedOne and Rick Rubin before he appeared in videos. I think it started with Aaliyah - Try again were he did his trademarked 'uh huh'-thing and talked a bit in the mic. I assumed he wanted some more royalties, since he was now not just credited for songwriting but also as a performance artist on the song. Just a guess though.
He got extra famous when he started feuding with Scott Storch. Oh those were the days.
He also produced an album for that dead Audioslave singer, forgot his name.
