BBS's rule and are still useful. A shame, really, that people insist that they're 'outdated.' Same with usenet.
Usenet is alive and kicking so I have no idea what gave you the impression that people think it's outdated...

bbs'es really are obsolete. irc has replaced the human interaction, and p2p has replaced the filesharing. and i must say, i'm not complaining.

ssh://bbs:bbs@useless.ereet.org whee!
I don't think bbs'es are outdated. they gather alot of stuff into one system and everything is access controled by sysop so you can 't have a random users fucking up certain conferances and such and when it comes to files they're all verified and shit get nuked if sysop is active.

yeah but FTP and moderated forums somehow look like that.

/me attempts to figure out what the point of 'yeah but FTP and moderated forums somehow look like that' was, decides this is spam, and suggests we use this for PLEK = TINTO warring.

also, BASS!

Sir GarbagetrucK, you are an old and outdated piece of spam and I don't see the point of your presence here.

To answer your question.

See, on MY planet, when you ask a question, unless it's a rhetorical question, you are posing queries to other parties in order to recieve a response.

Also, I'm here to feed trolls. You are a troll. I am feeding you. See how this works? No? Ah well, you obviously don't see much.

Have some more fodder.

Sparcus: simply gave an example of something *considered* useful by people (poorly educated in it's purpose to begin with), but actually poorly maintained, outdated and hopelessly redundant. It's the people defending it's "value" you ought to be worried about.

Both IE users and people defending dial-up principles as *real* are rather quaint -amusingly so. If it applies to you, here's a friendly request to buy a freakin' clue and ride the Reallity Train to Blissville.

it's not really about useful or not... logging into a bbs nowadays (even if its telnet and not dialup anymore) is like sipping on a glass of champagne or smoking an ultra-fine pure spliff. there's no use in it at all but it feels so good!

saying in 2004 that bbs are the ultimate way of communication or filesharing would be foolish indeed. but noone says that. it's just a little fine extra feeling, and who cant reassemble this feeling just leave it alone. it's not about zealotism. noone is forcing noone to use anything.
