Scene.org-Awards 2008

category: general [glöplog]
So, with over half of the year 2008 gone, do you already have some 2008 demoscene productions in mind you would like to nominate for the Scene.org awards? What are the best productions so far?

Will it be a strong year for the demoscene with kick-ass-productions or weaker than 2007?

Just off the top of my head 2007 was stronger imo, some real killer demo's like Lifeforce and Debris stick out, and this year i can only really think of demo's like Soliloquy.

2008 will be a good year I think.

I think Nvision will be kind of a letdown. But that's just what I think.

are you saying your prod sucks? :D

Yeah i hope something killer will come out in the remainder of 2008. And i wasn't a huge fan of Debris myself beyond the tech side, but many people were so mentioned it :) Lifeforce on the other hand i love, and have watched more times than i can remember!

whether it will be a letdown depends mostly on how much you buy into the hype, i suppose ;)

First of all it's funny how it's "just mine" with over 5 people working on it but no, it will not suck :) It will perhaps not be as technically pointless as most recent productions.

We did have Atrium :)
As for how 2008 will turn out compared to '07... let's first see what NVision will bring.

We also had "Size Antimatters", which was interesting. Not a strong contender like Lifeforce was, but still a good demo.
eh, hello?

panic room anyone?

...meaning "Lifeforce vs. Debris" might be replaced by "Metamorphosis vs. Masagin"?

this years releases have been better in most ways than 2007 except pc demos. there hasnt been a demo so far this year that you say "yep, thats the winner", or even "yep, thats a surefire nominee".. so..

yep, the award should go to rob is jarig.

So far it has been a solid year I think. No groundbreaking demos so far, but many good productions. But well, I think that's normal - even the US movie industrie with its high budget doesn't produce milestones like "The Matrix" every year.

My favourite productions so far:
Craft by lft
Nucleophile by tbc
Challenger Deep by traction / brainstorm
Atrium by tbc / loonies
Panic Room by fairlight
HBC-00004: Field Trip by ½ - Bit Cheese
ETA by Junk

I also hope Craft will win, it really deserves it :)
