"I don't have proof ? I am accusing the whole demoscene of stealing ?"

Yes, and Yes.
I also would like to remind you, that Timbaland stole from the c64-scene, not pc-scene.
And its good tradition there to have our own coded tools.
keops the righteous returns.

Captain Zed Yago: you are right, I am a liar without any proof! Poor little gentle sceners never stole anything and always do things right, while mean Timbaland is the only devil, committing thefts, infringements and shit :)

Another demoscene Drama for poor little innocent sceners \o/

Timbaland: ""It's from a videogame idiot."

"Rockstar Games, the video game company behind Grand Theft Auto, has announced a partnership with Timbaland for a music-based game, Beaterator."

seriously, the guy is indefensible :p

Xtense: Both songs suck pretty much, which might be because they're treading on musical paths that every selfrespecting artist should have left when he was 12. I'd rather call this blatant idiocy than stealing ;)

I think one of my first (and so far last) tracker songs used those chords. I think I was 13 or 14..

kb_ - Well, MichU just started tracking, this explains a lot :) .

Preacher - it's not that the chords are overused, it's just blatantly copypasted, and besides, I was mostly requested to do this here on pouet, since IMO cross-scene stealing happens, and shouldn't be anything more than two guys screaming "LAMER!!!!!!11" at themselves on a party and/or webforums. You know, scene spirit and the like.

Sounds like a case of "But, Aquaman, you cannot marry a woman without gills. You're from two different worlds..."

Well still he makes a good point.. What's up with those arbitrary categories that the whole reaction is based on? What makes us so homogeneous that we have to collectively take the blame for all the individual actions of others.

Who decides upon the size of the box?

Collective guilt.. that's the kind of things that you only see in kindergarten

And Germany \o/

(now can we, as a scene, please move on?)

Well, you started it!

Sorry, can't resist.
keops, you said:

"Some guys steal expensive software that costs a lot of money, not paying it, while others steal music and make money out of it. I doubt one category is ethically better than the other one."

Keops i'm assuming here you're referring to people 'stealing' software and using that to make profit?

I atleast truly hope you're not putting random people who like to dabble in 3ds max but can't / won't afford it for fun together with guys who steal someone's IP and make millions with it.

and please, are you so FUCKIN' brainwashed that you actually bring the 'steal a car' argument into this discussion?

ah so your argument now is that it's hypocritical because it's about tempest, and he's in Fairlight?

The whole thing is quite silly when you take into account that in all industries, there are some people using counterfeit products. Musicians use counterfeit software, they use counterfeit mixers. (behringer) I bet (I'm pretty sure actually, just because my own personal sampling of companies I worked at were like that) that majors sometimes use the odd counterfeit photoshop or quark express. I'm pretty sure it happens in most industries.

Do you see lawyers calling them hypocrits in courts when somebody's sued for copyright infrigement? No, because they'd be laughed out of court.

Yes you are right, this thread is silly, that's what I keep writing here :)

nothing personal about keops but: The point is, keops works in a video game company... his paycheck must depend on how the games will be sold... so,
he is bound to have a point of view where any concept of piracy is criticized, as his life depend on not being pirated.

oh man, that's so cute and naive at the same time but no, that's so not connected at all, it's a personal belief. I have been thinking like that long before I started working for a videogames company, which happened recently, totally not on purpose.
added on the 2007-10-02 22:32:54 by keops keops
besides krabob: videogames developers are usually 'only' wage earners and are less directly interested in sales numbers than publishers :P
