Crashy 4kb intros?

category: general [glöplog]

Just a question, which might be interesting technically for me too..

Late 4kb intros which open a DOS console for a while and then run under windows, are supplied in two files, one COM and on EXE (which is usually more than the 4kb limit). The COM file crashes, the EXE runs. Why? What's the problem and why does the EXE works?

For reasons similar to this: http://www.ukscene.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=8
yes, i hate windows 4k .com:s (95% not working). that's why i hope coders will put unpacked exe with intro, it may help alot (althought it's not 4k intro anymore :)

shadez, you may want to try running them from a root dir (say, C:\)... for some obscure reason (something to do with long pathnames, I guess) this usually works for me.

Ficken! 4kb without on windows without having to write any assembler at all? That's not for me ;P
But thanks for the informations anyways..

hmmm...

dropper & apack r very good,
haven´t heard that the last 2 BM 4k´s crashed...

but i do also have problems with the most BP 4k´s...
especially "sponge" from freestyle, dropping me a file that grows so big (several gigs), till the HD is full...

Igor: Same problem here (Sponge), the TNT2 is finally also not the reason because the problem occurs also after installing a Geforce2 Ti. The BM intros are running without probs.
