the X-Box is a PC with an nVidia accellerator. What's the point?

a) It's got an UMA
b) You have fixed hardware
and c) You can program that hardware directly.

You mean like Scoopex's Riot intro ?

Hmm id like to see something a bit more impressive on xbox than scoopex intro.

seannyB ... it is so narrowminded to call the xbox a pc in a box, just because the big bad MS made it.

all consoles have a cpu, a graphics unit and sound etc..
ms just choose to work with companys known from
pc hardware manufacturing.
as ryg indirectly pointed out, it is quite different from a pc.

Perhaps what's more important is that it's not exactly a public success..
in europe at least. That shouldn't forbid anyone to develop for it, but
it drastically reduces the audience. (see how many demos were
developed for dreamcast for example, even with how easy it was
to develop for it)

I don't remember mentioning Microsoft...

anyway what neato stuff for example could a demo do with an X-Box that would set it apart from PC demos?

SeannyB, does UMA mean anything to you? It's a new universe for CPU/GPU effect combos.

i'm sure he's too much of a 'forumyapping' dumbfuck to know.

You don't need UMA and CPU/GPU effect combos for flatshaded alphacubes.

I think that before you can program for the Xbox, you need to send an application to Microsoft for the developer kit. And from what I hear, they're very selective.

bwahaha.

as if console demos were made with official devkits. :)

just get a modchip, flash a new rom and start playing :)

just found out what UMA was. not everyone wants to be a coder, Plek, but it can't hurt to ask how new technology could potentially change demos

But Ryg, that would be illegal. And worse still, it would be an act against our kind friends at Microsoft. :)

get the first LEGAL devkit at:

http://www.caustik.com/cxbx/download/cxbe-0.0.1.zip

doesn't really give you much apart from framebuffer access at the moment, but still!

I wanna see a NeoGeo demo.
Wade: i would like to see the day MS tried to sue a demoscener for making an xbox demo :)

sure there are some royaltee problems with the official XDK but that can easily be bypassed i guess :)

There's nothing illegal about what I said.

I didn't suggest getting the warezed devkits. But Modchip/new ROM is a must in the likely event that you don't know the official MS signing key for XBox Executables :)
