the perfect parody
It feels like 20 demos mashed into one. What a superior load of content. Maybe a bit more flashes, a bit more louder and aggressive music, some more colors and some more meshes next time? Just to make sure everyone got there eyes burned out properly.
fun and not boring.
"A F%^king DEMO?"
so meta
So much content the poor youtube compression couldn't keep up =)
Há! Kontent!
I'll just let the thumb speak.
I did not like it at all until it becomes a fucking demo :D unfortunately some scenes feel disconnected to me in terms of quality and mood. but damn what a fat soundtrack! overall a fun and entertaining prod!
Fantastic soundtrack, Enough visual candy for 27 demos.
funny
Happy to see that from row 3.
Good project planning can get you anywhere. Even if you want to be there or not.
a fucking demo!
Shows an amazing effort and an admirable high-energy output. Hard to provide any critique over what was already addressed in the cathartic info file :)
Hillarious demo, remembers an old visual parodies made by JCO.
...really nice paced collage and cool music...just didn't like the rap part :-p
egyértelmű volt, hogy nyerni fog :D jó lett
awesome demo. better than that Avengers movie!!!
nice
it's all over the place and damn that first scene is so PC game from 1998, but the pacing, amount of content, track and sync carries it home
the real demo is in the info file
the rest was fun too, enjoyed the speedy cuts and visual fidelity of some of the scenes
i feel like the irony that comes as a byproduct makes it too easy to ignore the subtext, but then again that also makes this more fun for me
all in all, the text is shit (aside form the visual fidelity), everything worthwhile is in the subtext which i really hope people would focus on...

(actually should've piggied this, probably)
#schrödingersdemo
Not my fav UD, but so much effort put to prove a point is something I can only respect. And yea, that nfo is priceless and I couldnt agree more with its point.
i'm with sensenstahl.
Guilty pleasure
.
Enjoyed this on many levels. One of those is Gargaj incidentally making something new while being miserable making something old and stale <3
totally awesome! :)

Funny shit, ugly af though but I guess that was part of the joke :)
Some time has past since You Die from 2002, but this demo is bringing the same feelings, just more, and better. Sitting through the whole compo on the ground next to the speakers... Totally worth it :)
F'kin awesome as F'ck
.............
I wrote the above before reading the nfo file. But i still hold the same opinion. And i would have loved id to read this at the party, and have a discussion about it. It's hard to reflect without spoilers.
And yes, it is a guilty pleasure, but a real, deep and touching one of that.

vehicles on first scene having no shadows was a bit annoying
the brostep is deep in this one but i guess going over the top on the soundtrack was the point
great sync work, overall direction and quality of the scenes! well done!

It surely woke everyone up at the paryplace, ...even zombies. :-)
Scenes are of uneven quality and I had a feeling they are leftovers from many other prods, but in general it was a nice ride (yes, "guilty pleasure" is the term I've been looking for) :-)
hmm..
now demoscene is officially alive.
again.
again.
Massive. Some work went into this.
<3
Just got to love a demo with this speed and a hardcore/hartstyle part!
Demo of the year.
a bit low on the hypnoglow but still great!
Watched it again after reading the .nfo. Like it even more now.
Making a demo about it is a very solid way of communicating a message. For me at least stuff like this motivates design choices. Let's hope more people will embrace the weird and are willing to take risks by creating something new.

Now I got it.
freaking a w e s o m e, got totally LMAOed from that jumpstyle part :D
and also + for squeezing last bits from DX9 :)

Nice meta, great humouristic intermitting text parts and great overall direction. I just cant condone demos made with unreal engine. The rest is a piece of art tho :)
spkr: but.. it's not made with unreal engine

stole my heart ❤️
thumb goes more to the NFO file
I shouldn't like this but I do.
How to make a thesis, back it up, and prove it. Job done, respect!
excellent demo ! massive :) thanx

Awesöme!
NFO doesn't fit this demo at all. I second cupe.
You failed hard at making this boring and cheap. Nevertheless I'm really sorry that creating this piece of fine art seemingly made you feel miserable. Stop thinking about it.

I didn't get it.
Cool rap though.
Cool rap though.
nice work Gargaj! some parts reminded me of the spiderverse, super cool!
I laughed out loud when the youtube seekbar appeared.
HUHA!!! <3

Where's my face... hmmm...? :)
kuss.
All right.. this is a fucking demo ;-) Opening is weird but then it's pure rave, hard core industrial.. I dunno even how to call the sound track but it squeezed and twirled my brain like no drugs ever could.
that historic moment when a design-demo reaches far beyond than just designer-audience
Goddamn, after our conversation at Revision I know exactly where this comes from and it is frightening how right you are. Incredible work man.
After reading the touching info text I was left puzzled by the fact that this actually did win the compo, making it even more expressive.
What it is actually said in Hungarian at the end of the demo?
Hah!
Longest greetings part ever!
shame on you for making this.
shame on us for liking this.
fuck tradition and ambition :)

My dream is to reach this brainfucking "cuts per second" level in a 256byte intro ;;;;----)))))
as i said at party: Great!!!
Quote:
What it is actually said in Hungarian at the end of the demo?
"Hát mi a jó édes anyádért jöttél ki elém?!" = "Why the f*ck have you turned in front of me?!"
It is the punch line of a parody/comedy poem about a car accident by Nagy-Bandó András.
hmmm... oh well
Wow! What a ride! Love it!
Hmmm... Not sure if i like it or not. :S The eye cancer is strong with this demo. but not the style - It looks good - But those quick pictures are poison to my eyes. Just a piggy from here.
Wow! This is what a Demo must Be. We have for our money
That was certainly right in my face. And I loved it.
(also kudos! been sitting on that .wav for ~10 years) :D
In some ways this reminded me of Gift - a big bundle of stuff we've seen (done better) before, but still with something nice going for it. In the case of Gift the niceness was "Yeay, it's in 64k. Also, music!", whereas in Piledriver it's the insane pacing & energy, together with the fact that it's very successful in proving a point.
It's not often that a demo (and it's .nfo) gives me something to think about in this way and I'm really happy that this one did. :)
As a standalone production this party banger is a ghetto- and sofascener's wet dream. It would be entertaining if it won a Meteoriks.

That was awesome! In your face! :)
Challenge: identify all the other demos this one mimics. It's a fun meme. Sorry you had to make it. :)
great demoshow!
wow ! so much in here ! Enjoyed it a lot
much content and great attitude, that youtube overlay was a very nice touch.
Love it. Now work on something you love which is super fresh and new so you don't win the compo.
For the great demo, the effort behind it, and the insights of the NFO.
I don't know what to say. Guilty pleasure probably. Thumb up for "auf die Fresse", good rapping and the amount of content.
It's fast, and very furious :)
<3
<3
Gargaj, from what you write in nfo, it seems you would be satisfied receiving thumbs down, so here it goes :*
huge effort deserves good rating!
I actually kinda hate this kind of demos, so my thumb up is mainly for the combined impact of demo and .nfo. I sincerely hope that you'll get Meteriks for Best Direction, just to take your concept right to the next level.
rulez ;-)
Intense energetic experience, a fan :)
this demo is both Hilarious and Important
I like youtube part.
can you rebuild it with static rtl
kicks ass. more visuals with lyrics please.
uppigdown(!).
The culmination of the worst stereotypical demoscene taste in one massive prod. I feel dirty watching it. It's kinda trying to be the next 1995, but with sort of modern meta- influences (kevin/jco-like craziness).
Good to see you step out of your comfort zone.
Despite what this demo is trying to do, it manages to be enjoyable to watch. As others have point, the amount of work is clear.
The parody aspect is interesting, but I'd argue that Echo Chamber did a better job when it comes to questioning demos.

This is a fucking demo.
So so. Couldn't play it at fullscreen at 1920x1080, so I had to play it at 640x480 in windowed screen. Heh.
Very enjoyable, the pace is perfect and the overall structure and design coherent. Also brutal breakbeat over industrial design, still a cool choice.
Not a fan of the music, but still the demo is perfectly synced to it and I did enjoy watching it, even though the demo is quite literally nothing new. ;-)
I can wake up to this every morning
Stop tábla van, fék nincs.
Pretty good, but the texture resolution could be better on some scenes.
Holy fuck, this is great
Also, interesting look back and thinkings in accompanying "PILEDRIVER.txt" file.
For the irony :)
However strange it may sound - and being a complete opposite of the demo style I love - I liked it a lot. + what Nytrik said + overall big thumb for keeping things at a certain distance at the same time and the dedication put into making it. \o/
nailed it.
Piledriver by Gargaj, or "How to be so freaking good at what you do, that you actually forget how to make something bad." :D
You missed, and yet it was AWESOME ! So. Much. Respect.
You missed, and yet it was AWESOME ! So. Much. Respect.
Doesn't suck enough!
Very cool demo.
Awesome idea, and everything executed by one guy. Brilliant!
Great music with great sync, I enjoyed it. Somebody please make demos with RTX raytracing or any other technique for more realistic bumpy or fuzzy reflections.
I wanted to comment on the fact that I loved the little things is this product, like the Youtube video bar popping up for a second making you think, "Did I hit my mouse? ... on a demo?"
I've heard some troll music tracks that do the same thing. Like use the Discord now post sound so people think something happened in Discord but then the sound effect gets distorted into a drop.

The music sync was cool enough.
Enjoyable ..! I missed some of Bero's dancing dudes during the hardcore section tho..
what a pile of... cool stuff :) fantastic sync, everything fits together, it's fast, no time to get bored... way to go
gArGaJ BiGgEsT SelLoUt iN sCenE... lOoOserR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maximum crowdpleaser.
You've proven your point.
Also, most people seem to not read .nfo files.

That rocks!
this was FUN!
hahahaha.... ACTION!
DANG HARD
an intentionally cheesy mess and I fucking loved it
AWESOME!

At a party I probably would have thumbed this down for being full of 🧀🧀🧀 but having read the NFO before I watched it, well... I'm sorry, but I have to give a thumbs up for the masterful execution of said 🧀.
Some things could do with a bit more edgewear, like the sand, fog, air etc. on that note, what about the cat?!?!
While watching this, I was curious what was up here... It kinda seems like a demo that tries to say something, but then it ends up saying nothing at all. Then I read the readme. Well played, sir.
Signed in to Pouet for the first time in months just to leave this thumb.
Without the nfo, I would have been, like, “what?”. I feel a certain irony in thumbing this up.
I learned to appreciate your recent demos much more when I watched them a few times at home when the party was over. This one's quite the opposite, but I admit I enjoyed it a lot on the big screen.
Wow, what for a content :D
well. it's a satire of the 'winnerdemo' style, and, consequently, is full of pomposity and ecstatic tumescence as one would expect. the problem is that, as the well-known maxim goes, "the master's tools can't dismantle the master's house", and thus the message underneath the fireworks remains ambiguous. but there's never enough reflection on the one-dimensional aesthetic categories of the scene so thumbs up for that i guess
Newschool direction right in the midsection
Unexpect the expected
holy mother of fuck...
and yes
and yes

PC Demo of the decade! Some stuff feels a bit rushed, but the words make up for it hugely!
What Gloom said.
Really cool and fresh one-man-show ;)
"New school direction,
Right in the midsection,
screen space reflection,
all polished to perfection"
This is awesome :D
I really respect this, and besides the "message" this is really polished demo.

jesus christ
At first I was like "The 2000s are making a come back? Well, why not."
Very excellent sync, pace and energy, (and amount of content) even if the art is very uneven (looks somewhat dated on some scenes).
Then I read the NFO.
Well, first I'm sad to learn so much pain was involved in the creation of this. @Gargaj: I really hope this actually kicks your butt into having fun building a demo tool you enjoy using ― and making original/purposeful demos you'll enjoy spending time on.
As for the screen space reflection... This has been done time and again. Someone cited the Bolero, I could think of Disco Duck, and it rarely worked. Mostly because you can't do a crowd-pleaser without it pleasing the crowd!
As for the validity of doing the same thing over and over? I tend to divide 'creation' into 3 category: 'product', 'exploration' and 'self-expression'.
Exploration is what we demomakers do most. Toying with tech or ideas. Often it revolves around aping something else. This is a crucial step in the creation process, in order for one to own a craft. Some may take this for Art, but there's not much self-expression for it to be art.
Self-expression AKA Art, it's pretty rare actually. Culmination of tons of exploration, with an added purpose. Often hard to appreciate, generally ignored, but can sometimes start trends.
Products, must be profitable because they're made in hopes of bringing back revenues. Pop music, block busters, paintings sold in home/decor stores, etc. They try to displease the less amount of people possible, and then please some. Has to contain mostly very polished and familiar content. May include some new *but proven* stuff.
...proven new stuff? The product creators will look at the artists and explorers for that new twist. Like when we started hearing chiptune in pop music. Radio stations can't play straight up chiptunes to their audience, but a small layer in a Beck song is fresh and cool.
We need all of that. The self-expression and exploration, to inspire us. As well as the products, to give us a quality level to attain, and to reach out to newcomers. (who will in turn, ape a lot, and also make some gems)
*note: this is all a continuum, stuff can be hard to categorize, and it's perfect. Also, everything is a remix. Oh, and sorry for the long rant.

forgot da thumb! Because while I can't condone a demo made with pain, the sync is awesome and an actual reflection as part of the creation process is always great.
Gargaj sorry, you like it or not, but I love your demo demo. BIG THANKS of this 8)
And please, DONT STOP
And please, DONT STOP
Fucking awesome unz unz i like it, even if i am not sure if Gargaj does or not
This crap is good! :]
Read the story, watched the demo - Thank you for all the efforts and for blowing my mind!
The greatest example of hatecoding.
too good :DD
rulez
Good effort, you are a master at syncing visuals with music - no doubt.
Is there a discussion of the concerns in the info file somewhere? In this thread BarZoule was the only one who really spoke his mind and I'm kinda curious whether there are more opinions somewhere? ty.

Yes Rimina, but how do you proceed with this? Reflect upon it on your own? Is there a discussion? I'd really like to see (or participate on) a dialogue about his topic
If it's not just some joke I missed, and you actually truly hated coding this, then it's quite delicious that it won the compo and that people love it, unaware that you don't.
A participatory thumb up from me. I guess I should also add "I like your demo, please make more like this!"

it's like all outracks demos combined
to be more precise, I always think of this demo, which is very similar in attitude and flow/presentation
1st place. Concept proven.
Oh god Gargaj, what have you done is great.
Wow. Just wow. Thanks Gargaj, you rock sir.
OH WOW
I LOVE IT
SICK TUNE

all my fucking yes.
all my fucking yes.
Sorry I forgot, but was this the time you didn't have access to hot shower..?
This has made my day on Function 2019. I was laughing so hard! Major kudos.
ADF extrafett
this is so cool, it has the glow! I like mostly things with calm content but this one I was watching totally drunk and now I see this awesome thing with ton of effort.. gargaj you are a monster who can do everything, that makes me feel some scene spirit and even with that speedy music it makes me feel how cool you are.. this is fukin great!!!
Damn, I missed so much stuff...
Seems that it is still the top windows demo of the last 3 years !
Top praise for Gargaj, well deserved it.
Top praise for Gargaj, well deserved it.
Hi-energy unadulterated pleasure!
