Lovely megademo!
impressive for the vic20 hardware :d
nice work !
nice work !
lots of nice effects and _great_ music
This is awesome! *chant*

i can't comment on the code, and i would suck at doing so - so i'll just take this as being the best multiparter i've seen for the non-expanded machine yet. excellent musick by 4-mat, excellent design, and uh .. i think the code's good too. if only i could say something about that.
vice emurapes the music in some parts..
beside that: mighty cool stuff, would like to see it on real vic20 ;)

would've needed some more keops gayness!
no, this demo is brilliant..
some nice effects there. good megademo!
nice and colorful.
OMG! VIC AND ORB!!! :) :) :)
Amazing. A shame I only have one thumb up to give it.
imo you should made it continously loading disk like viznut did.. it wouldnt break the flow
name-thumbing ;)
Very cool guys!
Nice effects and musics.
+ what Gargaj said.

megademo + amazing stuff + great music. and a surprise as well (+ 4mat coding?! on a vic20?! :)). since i love classic raster effects i love the greetings part. now i must watch this again :)
Wow, great effects + music, and it seems to go on forever :D
Only criticism - the music cuts a bit to abruptly in most parts, but i guess it's a minor thing.

An amazing load of effects.... not my prefered Vic20 demo (Robotic Liberation is definitively the top) but the 2nd ;-)
Some effects absolutely fabulous.... some maybe too newskool for the Vic20 (offsetmap4ever ?)... I'm really fond of the "classic effects" (scroller, dots, distorts, rasters...)

very nice indeed, entertaining.. how many loading bars can you get in a demo? :)
wow, very impressive effects... and they are in the borders too! :o)
SLURP =)
C-64 guys should finally realize that putting stuff in the "borders" is not an issue on the VIC-20:
$9000 = x position of screen
$9001 = y posiiton of screen
$9002 = width of screen
$9003 = height of screen
$9000 = x position of screen
$9001 = y posiiton of screen
$9002 = width of screen
$9003 = height of screen
ok how do i get this on my vic20 cassetteloader?
Pure Rock'n'Roll!
I esp dig the music, I didn't know that this 1980 vintage VIC can produce such nice ziks.
Only small thing: part transitions are too abrupt but it doesn't kill the experience!

Perhaps the first vic20 demo with decent music.
But the loader bar armada kills the flow. :(

Totally awesome ! Great work.
HUGE thumb up.
Well done.
Well done.
Nice, thx ultra,4mat for this experience :D
Would have been better as a trackmo ;) (hi ultra!)
Well yes, it was a unexpected surprise to see Orb on the Vic20. There are a lot of nice parts here, maybe the effects are a bit too lowres for my taste so much that I liked the scroller parts more, and of course I luv the music!!!
very nice effects. I really enjoyed watching it.
wow
\o/
the baguette guy joined commodore camp!!1 <insert some atari flamewar starters>
very cool and many great effects, wonderful musics by 4mat. big hit.
Can't really say whether the technical achievement was a great one or not but I can say that I liked most of the tunes very much and that many effects looked ace :)
Special thumbs for that progress bar and those part names
Special thumbs for that progress bar and those part names
Crashes on start on my ppc iBook with latest Vice. No extended memory enabled. The things loads and the screen fades to black, then Vice quits without warning.. :(
really like the traditional demoatmosphere.. very nice demo :)
Keops: hahahaha.. Nice solution, I shall try that right away! :D
ZOMFG ... unbelievable amazing stuff for a plain VIC-20 ... I used to have one back in 1983 ... but I just played stuff like "Car Driver" (as cartridge) ...
Damn ... I'm old ... ^^
Damn ... I'm old ... ^^
nice! like it <3
Very nice stuff. And even the music almost doesn't hurt despite the VIC's total inability to play notes at the right pitch :)
top notch!
great with very nice 4mat songs again :)
Not bad! What's up with the VIC20? Getting more and more advanced...? The scene is rising again ;)
excellent stuff! and what's also excellent, is that an amiga musician and two atari coders get together to make a demo on a vic-20. how crazy and cool is that? just think about it.
great!
awesome stuff! but ultra: i am still waiting for "heftig"
Yeah, awesome :)
great stuff again! nice platform, great music, scrollers, lots of parts, great!
hmm did i forgot to say great, lol :)
Nice :)
Less offmaps next time please ;)
Less offmaps next time please ;)
really good
no video?
wie gehtn das? anyway very sick prod..
great stuff, great style
nice one, i didn't even know 4mat's alive... nice effects, music and stuff, very refreshing...
was the music made in VICtracker or in something else?
was the music made in VICtracker or in something else?
4mats player seems to be the one with the nicest sounds on vic20, great!!!
Really nice for the platform, and some nice chips :)
OK, I finally managed having a look on it, using VICE emulator.
My personal thought : the beginning of the production is really, really, really impressive. Unfortunately, last parts become progressively kind of boring (sinus dots and horizontal deformation coming to my mind).
You did an awesome job here !.. it would be definitively nice to see other Orb productions soon ;)

rulorzzzz
excellent
very nice!
there is some stuff i don't understand in here =) the other stuff seems quite straightforward but is well presented. and the music rules of course, such a crappy soundchip makes the YM seem like a music studio. wow :)
omg, vic rules in 21st century. killer.
This is really really brilliant. Quality never goes out of style. And 4-mat just keeps on amazing me.
Nice.
Excellent!
and btw, 4mat should get a freakin medal for the music. :)
simply rules, and Orb definitely surprised me with this one. And hey 4-Mat, I think it's unfair that you keep doing all these things to us. :)
BTW - can someone tell me why this production is called "megademo" ?
I mean, and correct me if I'm wrong..
- a multi-part production where users wait for the end of a part or press space to discover the next one should be called a MAXIDEMO
- a multi-part production with a menu to select parts to launch should be called a MEGADEMO
Your thought?

Also there are a lot of C64 demos without a menu that are called Megademos. ;)
absolutly fat thing :) love it !!!
really cool, especially sound :) thumbs up!
There was no menu in Antitrax megademo, which i guess was the first :)
Awesome. FUCKING AWESOME!
*grin* wow.! thumb.! ofcoZ.! *grin*
keops rules.
ultra thanks, it sounds good indeed...
norecess, you're an atari user, right? =)
ORB rules. I´m totally ignorant about the vic, but I believe this is good coding. Had fun watching it, ayway.
Just watched this demo... ON REAL VIC20 you emu suckers!
Rules of course!
Well, perhaps Maxidemo/Megademo are terms reserved to Amstrad/Atari scene..?
anyway, I found that maxidemo/megademo distinction a good thing.
anyway, I found that maxidemo/megademo distinction a good thing.
Hey, how to run it on VICE? I don't have VIC20 and these screens look SO GOOD! :( Heeeeelp!!
Maybe another emul?
Maybe another emul?
norecess, the word megademo comes from when the first megademo was released in 1987, its unpacked size was one MEGAbyte, so the creators decided to name it that way and started a trend.
Incredible work !
Always fun to see urls on those machines :)
I especially like the rasters part : so CPC ;)

THIS DEMO (even on emul) IS *FANTASTIC*. I'm shocked. Every part is 5Kb big??
Well, considering VIC-20's specification - the demo cruches C64 into pieces.
And by the way - I am a fan of VIC-20's sound, I have even a chiptune album of Warlord and I listen to it often. This music is fine too.

can you make a music selector where we can listen to the songs in full on original hardware?
will the songs be uploaded on Nectarine btw ?
i can live with a loader, but the musics are just so incredible for vic20 i wanna listen to some of them in loop :)
Never underestimate a 6502 in a breadbox!
This one simply rules! It's about as "heftig" as it gets on a VIC20 :-)
Considering the platform this is a fucking good prod
fucking great! =)
damn now I need that X1541 cable... ;)

very nice =)
"Well, considering VIC-20's specification - the demo cruches C64 into pieces."
not at all, thumbs up for the demo, but I must say this demo is far from being close to the technical level of the best c64 stuff.
the gfx tricks are really nice, but while having the same cpu at the same speed, displaying 1-2-3 hundred dots at 50 fps is quite weak, or table based effects with reduced size only due to ram limits? nope, technically not THAT awesome. sorry.

nice code and all but boring as a motherfucker.
and the only good track was pretty much the last one, or maybe the emulator was fucking up.
eitherway, its so damn boring i wouldnt ever want to watch this again, sorry guys.

Incredible stuff for this hardware.

ps: Its ok to to be different just to be different, but you need practice to know how to pick the occasions.
One more time orb kick ass with this vic20 demo!! like always rgaphic, sound and dezign roxx! next on zx81? ;)
quite excellent.
<okkie> i think my knowledge of the vic20 is too sparse to compliment it though :(
<Keops_Eqx> 1mhz 5kb of ram
<Keops_Eqx> THAT'S NOT FOR FAGGOT CODERS
<Keops_Eqx> IF YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN
<okkie> so why are YOU coding for it then?
<okkie> ZIIIING!

as binary for vic20 please :)
RULE :D
hey guys? can you release version for memory expansion like viznut did for robotic liberation without loader ?
lol, archmage :D
Fantastic music and atmosphere.
More a multi-parts demo than a megademo as the parts themselves don't stand alone.
But good anyway, i guess.
But good anyway, i guess.
Impressive!
sweet
Quite good, just wonder why is so long to load less than 5kb of data between each part (I assume it's packed ?).
Is this due to VIC floppy drive being very very slow ? Is it not possible to do fast loaders or something ?

Fick it like Beckham!
Very nice demo! Thanks for the proper settings Keops :)
Dbug: it's because ultra is too lame to use a fast-loader ;)
That demo rocks my pant, the best VIC20 prod I ever seen.
And I already uploaded the whole soundtrack on my iPod to listen all day long at job :)

Like it, remembers me on the good datasette times :)
thumb up because i guess it's pretty tricky to achieve such a prod
however, i'm not really into this, i don't really appreciate chiptunes etc so ...

Cool demo, good music.
Some nice fx, and I like the music, but something that annoyed me was the abrupt end to tunes in places, rather than the nicer fading out which happened only in some parts. Kinda shocked you into the loading of the next part.
On the whole tho', some nice stuff.
On the whole tho', some nice stuff.
some sexy effects
Cool. I'd watch it 10 times...
Wow, wow and wow! Congratz guys! You rule! The chesszoom + musik with sampled drums was just adoreable... like the rest! Cool with unextended memory aswell.. :-) Hope that the original designers of the vic20 will see this running on their creation. I bet they wont belive it could be done! :-)
Z'auraient pu faire un greeting pour Titan aussi hein, BANDE DE PEDALE VA LOLZ.
Awesome demo!
It is amazing to see stuff like this still being produced for the Vic.

nice 1! good and oldskoolish :)
Maybe technically good but also very boring to watch
Thanks for the tips Keops! Works ( with minor defects ) in Power20 on my iBook!
Great effort on Vic20, totally worth a thumb!!

to guy "ps": erm... man. you must be c64 fan. I didn't ment that c64 is piece of shit. i love design of its demos. i just said that in comparison to vic-20, c64 is..... hmmm.... not good enough. mkay?
where is the promised music collection? i am dying for it!!!!!! please <3
i have no clue of the technical challenge here so i can only appreciate the musics. and they sound really cool.
Superb demo!
I love Commodore VIC-20 and I DO LOVE this demo. Entire work is brilliant. Huge respect & bows for 5Kb RAM users. :)
I wish to _MYSELF_ You will never stop supporting this machine. :)

Forgot to thumbs up this megavilious prod!!! Superb oldskoolish feeling in code, gfx and sound... More please!
Impressive demo.
WTF? No thumb yet? Time to change.
where has my thumb been hiding?!
Great prod, i love !!!
what guardian said
Nice stuff !
jizz all over my keyboard :P
Great! Impressive dots!
huh, i never rated this one? pretty effects and great music (see orbtraxx). 4mat = <3.
awesome
forgot to thump this one!
Finally I have a VIC-20 so I can view this on the real deal - and I must say it is one of the best demos on the platform!
damn... this is.. unbelivable good looking!
This is good!
WOW!
lovely demo!
Very cool !
Wonderful, especially music.
Yeah!
Wonderful stuff! And runs from SD2IEC!!! Respect!!!!
Good work!
Hey wtf! Seriously jawdrop.
Fucking awesome, how did you got all this to fit in the memory can't wait until i get my EF3 so i can watch this on my real machine =)
One of the best (and few enjoyable) non-trackmo demos I know. Good theme and presentation, great tracks.
Unreal!
hey, I search contact to ULTRA ... anybody knows, how I can reach him?? it´s AGENt -t- / Cream here =)
almost 9 year old final simply has to get a thumb.
oh and the demo rocks too =)
<magicmode>we want more orb stuff! orb! orb!</magicmode>

Very cool loading! Lovely new effects!
To rain on your parade a bit though, the new music tracks don't exactly compare to the originals, not even close :/. I'd kinda like an "omd.old.parts" version as well, but a superbly cool update regardless! One of my favorite proper oldskool demos.

I just realized that the deluxe version also misses all the puns of course, what a loss!
<3
nice!
yes
YES
YES
really excellent now! great new ideas and good music :)
DELUXE THUMB UP
The new version is fucking awesome.
Cool new version! But why not make a completely new demo with the new content instead of adding it to an old demo? Scene needs more VIC20 releases! :)
It's about time I thumbed this up. It's always been one of my favourite VIC-20 demos, and with all the new stuff it's even more rad!
Fucking supercool demo!
Butt–knocking mug breaker!
Good to see the update!
The Old Version works with SD2IEC on an unexpanded Vic-20 great, really shows off the old loaf of bread.
Awesome to view this demo on the real hardware. Great job guys!
nice one
